Holy SH!T - I did not expect this to blow up so fast. I uploaded it and bascially went awol for a few days and come back to more than three thousand views? Thankyou guys so much!
@@calvalier520Personally I think the casters are already gonna be held back a lot by their relatively poor gear, except maybe the cleric, and that their runs without magic being allowed is gonna be too similar to classes like the bandit and thief If you really wanna keep it somewhat true to the idea of only using the base gear you could only allow yourself to use copies of the starting offensive magics and any non-damaging ones. That way you have access to magic weapon, power within, and heal for example. I think that’d be more than fair while also still being unique runs
I basically did this for my first playthrough. I never played a souls game before and I always play RPGs as a fast-attacking assassin type, so naturally I picked the thief. People on the internet told me to stick to dodging, so I never changed the armor so I could keep the fast roll. I liked the fast attack of the dagger, all other weapons felt sluggish after starting the game with it, but I think I switched to the scimitar or something like 10 hours in. Never used the shield, because, again, people on the internet told me dodging is the way. Got stuck getting one shot by O&S (I don't think I ever upgraded the armor) and quit out of frustration. Months later I decided to restart the game as a heavy armor shielded tank type, and boy, it was a smoother experience.
This was so much fun to watch man! I'm on my first playthrough and I keep finding ways to cheese some of the bosses because I have not skill but your Thief run really goes to show how much patience and perseverance one needs to "git gud" and learn from his/her own mistakes. Keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to whatever classes you're going for next!
You can cheese almost all bosses by walking behind them and spamming R1. Dark Souls 1 is one of the earlier FromSoft games so the bosses are very linear and their ai is a bit brain dead
I am doing something similar for Demon's souls with the Soldier Class, but i'm carrying that character through the whole series. Quite excited to get to elden ring with him
Thief is probably one of the best clases to do this, the shield is perfect for parrying me the knife is best in class, hope there’s more of this, I enjoy it
It’s honestly not that bad, ESPECIALLY compared to 2 (and it pales in compairson to the frustration that is 3). The only frustrating pat of 1 is the channelers trident, and with avarace, gs, and 10 humanity while human it should at most take an hour. Which is light work in comparison to its sequels
For myself I find out that twohanding small weapons like daggers isn't really worth it if you're reliant on bleed or magic effects to do most of the work. Two handing makes you spend almost twice as much stamina per swing and doesn't give a substantial enough damage increase, so it's not really worth it most of the time
When i picked thief i had some doubts about him but at the end it was my best DS run ever. I had to swap to mace and shield for a while because Ornstein and Smough were not easy to kill with knife but later i went for Cearan's gold tracer build and it was awesome.
Firelink Shrine items only is fun too, includes graveyard and area until the tunnel to Undead Burg. So you get FAP ring, Domnhall’s items, random undead drops, try it.
Hey man, I really enjoyed the video, simple premise but executed well! If you were going to do another of these, I wonder how the starting Sorcerer class would get on. I'm not sure they would have enough power to defeat end game bosses with the starting spells, but if you could level up INT high enough, could the basic Soul Arrow carry you through the game? Maybe if you bought the duplicates from the sorcery vendors.
Thanks. I've actually been wondering how far the basic soul could take me. It's got such a huge damage drop off that I might need to make a caveat that I'm allowed to buy the multiples of that spell. I'm about to start recording for the next one, so I guess sorceror is what's on.
GREAT video. I'm actually (only) on my 4th playthrough now. First time using the Thief class myself. Grabbed the Uchi because I've never used it either. I've never been very good at parrying but found that I'm getting the timing down fairly consistently now. I'm gittin' gud! 😅
Ey shit I think I might be your 1000th subscriber -Congrats! Excellent video, excellent run, excellent presentation. Excited to see what comes next from you, keep it up boss you're Killin it
Great Vid Man! Would love to see you start a series on all the different base classes. I feel like you'd get a lot views for a series like that! keep up the good work G
I don't really have any advice, tips, or comments about Dark Souls, this is just a really good video and I want to boost engagement so more people will see it
Played as Thief and finished it. I rolled all the bosses except for Kalameet, Manus and Gwyn. Invested in a lot of Dex, some Endurance/Vitality and intelligence. I loved it, and could not imagine playing as a bulky build or a med build. Once I got the Gold Tracer from the DLC, I was golden. For armor I used the painted guardian cuz I didn't wanna kill a certain female. Basically, shredded everyone
Great video from a small youtuber! Definitely hitting that sub button. Quick thing about the Asylum Demon, you can do a jumping attack (forward + heavy) to jump off of the ledge, and then instantly start a plunging attack, and you'll get two hits instantly for some seriously good damage
17:46 Personally this is what I've always picked up the Stone Set for. Has almost as much Poise and Defense as Havel's at a somewhat reduced weight and isn't out of the way as you have to pass right by it to get to Sif. However, this is functionally irrelevant as all three sets are great and directly comparable to each other. Though if I remember correctly the Giant's Set has a particularly hefty stamina regen penalty.
Makes me want to try a Hunter bow-only. I’ve done bow-only, but I had plenty of armor, bows, and rings to choose from. Having nothing but a longbow and all the arrows you want sounds fun
I have done my fair share of challenges on DS1 but I never thought about just picking a class and running it all through the game without switching out the gear. Good job on the video and good luck in the future.
I love this challenge idea, definitely going to give this run a go with a few of the other classes, I wreckon sorcerer would be pretty difficult cause only 30 casts and dagger, that or pyromancer could be good, this was a fun video!
Great video :) I've always wondered how certain enemies or NPCs would fare if they tried killing bosses. I feel perhaps at times there were some quiet moments where background music could've added to those moments, like after beating a boss
Starting as thief lets a new player screw themselves by going straight to Blighttown and getting utterly lost there. Like I did (though admittedly I didn't go there straight from new Londo, but went down from the chapel. Went past Andre and went further down. And then I found the elevator that took me even further down. After getting past the scary drake I found the way further down! And found the first Blighttown bonfire. Then I got to the second and got confused that there was no boss in sight, even though there ought to be, according to wiki I checked after a few hours of being confused. Then I gave up and started over.)
Dude, the FIRST TIME I EVER PLAY THIS GAME, I decided to play with that bannit knife and HAS to master parrys, It was hard but i slay ornistein and smough with It, was hard, but Very pleaseful
was checking back on this after just starting my own run of this and man it's crazy that this is hard for you when you're leveling XD I might be a different type of crazy
I did this run as the knight class. The only rules I set for myself was I must use the starting gear, i could upgrade whenever I want, and I could only level resistance
I played as Thief because it was Patches class, so I wanted to play as him but I went with other weapons like Quelaags furysword instead of just spear.
Playing the game differently makes the whole experience go wild. The strength build combined with strike weapons is my go-to build, but out of sudden I decided to try an int/dex build instead with the Magic/Enchanted Uchigatana being my weapon of choice until I got the Moonlight Greatsword (also used Quelaag's Furyblade sometimes). As a result, the stagger for bleed exchange was remarkably worthy, except in the Catacombs and Archives where I died countless times and couldn't stand it anymore. I also couldn't get the Moonlight GS since I ended up killing Seath after he spammed his thrash attack in two consecutive attemps and I wasn't having it anymore lol. Finally, I had souls to spare and ended up upgrading the whole list of weapons needed to the Knight's Honor achievement because I didn't need to upgrade the usual attributes and, as I speak, I guess I'll finally get the platinum this time. So yeah, hope others decide to try something else and have fun doing so!
Here's a handy tip, if you wait around the little walled area opposite the hellkite stairs then you can't be hit by the flames. Wait there for a little bit and the drake will hop down. THEN you can run past. Otherwise, you'll be in the dead center of his AOE flame attack which will melt even a maxed level set of black iron armour, probably the best fire protection in the game. Also. Click in your right stick to lock on.
Good Video and Voiceover buddy .For real JUST A SMALL NOTE : don't cut the game sounds. this will lead to some awkward silence moments when you stop talking
I actually just finished a run as a Thief yesterday, it being my 2nd Dark Souls 1 run (I received the game a few weeks ago). It's not really a hard class to play but early game can be a pain as you don't have a lot of good armor or weapons... Still pretty fun nonetheless!
great video dude, I recommend some background noise/ music because the silent parts of the video can make your dialogue sound awkward even though your cadence and such are very nice. overall very good job though 👍 edit: also having the game audio on (but relatively quiet) can help
If you do a jump attack off a ledge into an enemy that has a plunge animation, you’ll do the jump hit damage and then the actually plunge animation attack damage.
I chose a thief for my first Dark Souls experience and while I don't think I made it very far (Sen's fortress, maybe?) It was a cool experience. Something about holding a dagger in both hands always rubbed me the wrong way though.
It's fun to play with dagger if you manage to play with parrys and backstabs. And it's better with the rings that turns you translucid and quiet. Thankfully on DS3 are even better. Bandit dagger for bloodlost, dagger for parrys and twin dagger for raw L1 damage. It's the greatest luck build with the last two with Hollow gems. (Plus rings of healing with critical damage, extra critical damage, boost damage for consecutive attacks and healing for consecutive attacks).
Reminds me of when I went back to 100% DS1 and I decided to just go all over the place and got trashed like 4 times by the moonlight butterfly. I'm still ashamed but that just goes to show how different routes and gear can affect a run.
I would say that after this you deserve a slightly easier run so maybe the Knight or Warrior next? Knight definitely has the best starting equipment but also starts in Heavy Load while Warrior does not. Meanwhile everything the Warrior gets is good but is kinda just a slightly worse version of what the Knight gets at a lower weight. If you think about it in terms of gear, Warrior is really sort of just Knight-Lite.
The funniest thing is they picked one of the hardest classes they could pick to do first. The only class I could possibly see being worse is Sorcerer depending on the rules for new spells.
If you don't add any rules to get new spells, then Cleric and Pyromancer will be very interesting. Sunlight Blade + Starting Mace is very powerful, a friend of mine uses it all the time and it did stupid damage. A Chaos infused Hand Axe would be nice to see also, as I've rarely seen anyone on UA-cam try and maintain the 10 soft humanities for max damage, and it would fit in with the Pyromancer motif.
You start with the master key, high dexterity and the second best dagger in the game. (The best one when you only consider bleed damage) The thief is pretty OP.
5:18 you know if you wait in one of the places the flames can't reach you the drake will jump down to attack you and you can just run under it's legs, right? Think it's like 10-15 seconds before it happens but it's the best way to get that bonfire without much of a struggle. My strategy for this is to come up the stairs onto the bridge, bolt straight for the corner of the little alcove on the other side of the bridge (the one nearest the drake, flames will reach inside the one further away), wait for the drake to jump down, run between it's legs, easy money. Resting at that bonfire also makes the drake fly away for awhile so you can easily grab the items (not that the items are particularly useful in this kind of run besides the Soul item)
@@calvalier520the strategy I use is run out of the staircase and go immediately to the safe wall closest to the drake. Then literally just stand still there. Do not move or do other things as that will just make the dragon breath fire and reset the timer. After an uncomfortable amount of time that makes you question if it even goes down at all, it will eventually fly down and start breathing fire while it lands on the bridge. This gives you either a free hit to get the drake sword easily, or in this case just an easy way to get to the sun bros bonfire. You can also loop this as much as you want to kill the drake with any weapon.
Best start is easily both the Knight and -Barbarian- Bandit. Knight starts with _46 poise_ and only need 22 endurance(no rings) for medium roll. His weapon is surprisingly usable B tier (decent base damage makes it fine for lower str/dex set-ups) and his shield is a very solid A+ tier shield with the best stability to weight ratio in the game iirc (if the player remembers to upgrade it). Bandit simply has a solid A tier Strength-weapon and an A- tier shield. His weapon, like other clubs and club-likes, has much shorter end-lag when you hit than when you whiff the air with. It's good at chain-striking and breaking their poise w/ great dps; as well as faster than you'd guess in-combat, on hit-connect.
My experience with this build played out like this. Only thing I could equip were rings. And I could upgrade my weapon. If it bleeds and you can parry/backstab it it's easy. I didn't do any damage to Iron Golem. Needed to summon Tarkus to win the fight for me. Four Kings was the hardest since I wasn't able kill one before another spawns. I did around 60 dmg to Artorias and couldn't beat him so I didn't do the DLC. Everything else was pretty standard paythrough.
If you jump into the Gwyn statue before Gwyndolin and quit-out before you finish the roll, when you re-enter the game the statue will be gone. If you die, it comes back, but still.
i have hundreds of hours in DS3 and i tried to learn the speed run. i recently went back and played it and died to the tutorial boss so dont feel bad lmao
Great conceit! Though, methodology I have some questions on. +6 at Qualleg, with the 4 demons killed & gargoyles (asylum, stray, capra, & taurus) should only be +5, no? Not the end of the world, but cool run either way. Well done

Good job on the thumb nail. Paired with many people liking dark souls, I think that's what caused this to blow up.

I second what Sean said, that's a crisp thumbnail. Love the vid, and hope to see more in the same vibe soon!
22k now...
3k views? Those are rookie numbers you're past 20k now
If you don't allow yourself to get new spells, Pyromancer will probably be hell. Just an axe and eight fireballs
Hand axe is a very good weapon in pve in my opinion. The worst starter weapon is probably the basic dagger.
I'm thinking of adding a nother rule to try and work around that. Because it'll be the same with the sorceror and the hunter as well.

I've always known about this, but i've never been able to put it into practice. I'll try it super hard for the next one.
@@calvalier520 Good luck, once you get it down it's practically natural. I've been doing it every run I've done since like 2015.
@@calvalier520 Also just wanted to say this is an absolutely great video, I'll be keeping an eye out for any more from you man.
I liked this a lot simple and fun
Make this a series please
If you jump into the Gwyn statue before Gwyndolin and quit-out before you finish the roll, when you re-enter the game the statue will be gone. If you die, it comes back, but still.
my man blew up
Bro really died to pinwheel
i have hundreds of hours in DS3 and i tried to learn the speed run. i recently went back and played it and died to the tutorial boss so dont feel bad lmao
I kind of like thief armor one of best light armors you can get early game and looks good!
Shoulda have taken tiny being's ring as your starting gift.
But yeah I kinda wanna do a bleed run now
If u do this with the caster classes, i would make the exception that u can buy extra copies of the starter spell, but no new ones.
Great conceit! Though, methodology I have some questions on. +6 at Qualleg, with the 4 demons killed & gargoyles (asylum, stray, capra, & taurus) should only be +5, no?
Not the end of the world, but cool run either way. Well done
Lets go bro deffinetly gonna drop a sub 🤙
You should do this for the other classes
If im correct the theif starts with the master key
I saw that pine resin for the O n S fight. Tsk tsk
He mentioned he took 7 tries. After five, he was allowed to use a temporary buff.
great video
I did this with the knight class
Great vid
