Your shots of the snow and weather around your shop, especially at night, are spooky. In the 70s, I spent many a night in a lonely industrial complex in the middle of nowhere in Canada working on some project car. The contrast between the inhospitable outside and the warmth of the shop inside was striking. Now I am spending my nights in a lonely industrial complex in California. I sometimes miss the bite of the cold when I leave at night. A trip to Timmy Hortons before going home would be nice.

The only way to like snow and winters is to live somewhere that you have real winters. No freeze/thaw/rain/ snow and sloppy conditions.
That's the way you get dry snow that stays and you can get into winter activities...Like snowmobiling if you're into things with engines.
It makes winters go by really fast...Believe me 🙂

Hi Nick & George, Thanks for the tour of the shop, and all of the awesome cars that are there. So many engine to build, and run on the Dyno. I'm really looking forward to seeing George's 230 cu in six get torn down, rebuilt, and finally run on the dyno. Nick's Garage is like a box of chocolates, you just never know what you will get. Stay safe, and warm.

Trick to help remove old stuck gaskets is a heat gun. 😃😎 Exhaust gaskets , cut the bottom of the holes out so they slip down over the bolts.

Nick I use a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder with a wire wheel that screws on to the grinders threads. The wire wheel isn't too hard to damage the gasket surface but it is aggressive enough to remove the toughest gaskets. Saves time when working on engine parts. I use 3M fast tack trim adhesive to hold the gaskets to the parts. I've never had problems with cork gaskets doing that either. You know cork gaskets and silicone gasket maker doesn't work so well.

  • @gitchermotrrunnin
    @gitchermotrrunnin 4 місяці тому +5

We used the little metal tab to block the heat passage, Nunzi had them for the Pontiacs. You used to be able to get a manual choke kit from the auto parts stores. I used a manual choke when I ran an AFB carb and then a Holley which had the linkage kit too.
Not many shops get the jobs done like yours. So many sit on the jobs putting others in front. Great crew you have also.

When it comes to gaskets, what I learned to do (100's of trial and error) was to "glue" the gasket to the part that would be removed, then I used grease on the side that contacted the block. And YES! "glue" means enough to hold the gasket in place while you are assembling the engine. NOT ATTEMPTING TO MAKE THE CONNECTION PERMANENT!

I never get tired of seeing all the engines that Nick gets in the shop. 😊 Each one has its own story to tell which makes watching the videos even more interesting. One question. When you get an engine in for a rebuild and tear it down to the bare block, do you send it out to be hot dipped before it goes to the machine shop, clean it in house, or does the machine shop take it dirty and clean it there before any machining? Nice work George!

Nick, forget about those cork gaskets. Use the reusable Moroso or the other brands of perimeter gaskets.
Rubber? on both sides of a steel shim liner. They do NOT leak. As long as the covers are not warped. They might even make them for oil pans as well.

    • @nickpanaritis4122

@nickpanaritis4122 I would use them in all cases. I've had too many cork gaskets come back on me. Either having to be torqued again or harden up and leaking.
I've also seen too many of those exhaust manifold gaskets that you use blow out. Perhaps not right away, but in time. That's why I use the reusable aluminum or copper header gaskets. Yes, they can be a pain to cut out the bridge like you do. But again, no leaks and no come backs are a good thing. )

Thanks Dana. We're hoping to take the 6 apart this week. Then we will be able to make a plan for what is next.

Nick my passion is Holden 202 inline 6 like the Chey 6 in your work shop , guess what they have main seal Problem . There are group channels dedicated to that motor . We only have 27 million down there and in warm . Melbourne has the biggest Greek population out side Athens, maybe your parents got on the wrong boat .

I had the same problem Nick on a 383 1969 Road runner, Turned out to be the Crankshaft pilot bearing. No could pump the clutch pedal to change the vibration. Hope this helps. Bob
