Smiths Throw is way more complicated then it look, huge spread on the fingers that transitions to a Gary Anderson style release, sexy throw. (Also walks on last dart which isn’t optional, but not a game breaker
My two faves are Barney and The Count but if I had to take one overall it's The Count Ted Hankey. His throw is incredibly fun to watch it's so good when he's relaxed and nailing everything.
Hankey and RVB throws are so similair when you look closely how they wind up and everything. I think Hankey is a little more tense in his arm than RVB but both so satisfying to look at.
I grew up in the same village as Leighton Rees , Ynysybwl , and as young teenagers we would often play him at one of the local clubs “The Bomb”....they were a lot less strict about allowing underaged kids into the pubs and clubs back then. I played him once 301 double in , double out and I got off the mark first dart and he couldn’t get his “off” so I roared ahead and got onto my double-out before he had even got his first double . However I then struggled with my “out” and once he started he was soon on my back and whipped my arse. So nearly , but so far away , I never came that close to beating him again.
They’re all fantastic throws and when you see how successful everyone of these players have been it kinda proves that when you have the fundamentals right you can be very good. For me personally it’s a toss up between RVB, Dimi and John Lowe. Making the grip, throw and release as uncomplicated as possible is what I’ve always strived for. Great video 👍🏻🎯

I started playing 45 years ago and stopped after 10 years due to work commitments, had the odd flurry back to darts over the last 35 years but I couldn’t ever get back to the quality of darts I used to play. Been back just over a year now and I’ve started from scratch, new everything. Still a bit frustrating but I’ll persevere because as I want to improve. Keep up the great videos 👍🏻🎯
@@WeeIslay I feel you hardship, I am right handed but got Dartitis at the age of 19. Took me a year to let them go and when I did I injured my arm. I cant play right handed for more that 5 minutes without pain. Since then I started playing left handed. Took me 3yrs before I was good enough to play pub darts. Now I still play left hand but throw 80 average, been undefeated in my local league for over 3yrs. 😃 Singles and doubles. Always remember champions aren't made on the big stage. They are forged on the practice bord. You decid how good you can become. 🏆
It’s certainly very impressive what you’ve done changing from right to left. That’s perseverance and determination that’s got you to the level you’re now playing at. I’m just starting to get more regular into the 60 averages but it’s a bit of a struggle at times. I think you have to have to be really focused all the time and make every dart count. I do have goals but I’m not as hard on myself as I was, just due to the fact I’m learning all over again. I do get impatient at times though. Well done on your achievements so far, I’m sure there’s much more to come 👍🏻🎯

It's ironic. MVG possibly the greatest talent the game has ever seen but so many can't replicate his throw. That's the great thing about darts - every throw is unique.
I used to throw like Gary Anderson, then I had to change that when I had to start wearing glasses, then I started throwing like Glen Durrant, and now I throw like James Wade. I change my stance as well. I do practice occasionally, and I do sometimes get good scores.

I see some strange throws playing in leagues, people seem to ignore the fact that all of the very best players have incredibly simple throws. The more parts you have to a throw, the more you have to get right. This video demonstrates this perfectly.
Iv spoken to Steve a few times in the past. Really nice guy and possibly my favourite ever I am currently in the process of trying to arranging an interview with him for next month or maybe July time. Keep an eye out :)
Beaton is so likeable, but these days he throws as if he doesn't really care if it goes in or not. It's smooth but almost careless. I have the same issue with Michael Smith. He doesn't really give himself a chance to aim properly, especially on his third dart which is almost always rushed. This leads to a lot of needless misses on doubles, especially when he's moving from one side of the board to the other.
i just rewatched this remembering i already watch it last 3 years ago, I remembered Cross-Dominant is a thing, this really helped me back then being cross-dominant meaning Eye Dominant and Throwing hand opposite
What do you think of Gerwin Price his throw? It looks very fluid and controlled IMO, but I am not an expert at all. Also Dimitri Van Den Bergh is fenomenal! The most beautiful throw of them all!

Within the skull resides the instrument whereby we all judge the outside world. Our brains, eyes and a good piece of our nervous systems are there. It's absolutely imperative that that part of the body remains perfectly still. The best shooters from this list all have minimal motion from the neck up as a primary part of their shooting styles. I'm a bit surprised to not see Peter Wright or Gary Anderson on this list. They both have flawless throwing styles in my opinion.

Peter Wright, Gary Anderson, Paul Lim and Peter Wright are some of my favorite throws! My favorite player is mr. Snakebyte, but I think Paul Lim has the most amazing throw I have ever seen!

MvG should be on any list about naturally smooth and highly affective throwing styles. His eyes and head are completely still and locked on target and his lower arm does all the work. Also in my opinion (and many others opinion as well) the most beautiful natural and silky smooth throw in history of the game is Raymond van Barneveld. Second most beautiful would be the Bronzed Adonis throw.
Its not the best to watch or replicate though. He learn forward so fair he has to throw further away from the T20. Very straight throw but definitely a young man's style I my opinion. I can't see him throw like that when he is in his 40s.
O'Shea and Rees have that Mardle turn. And they still deliver that dart very true. Brilliant stuff. I don't actually think Wade has that great of a throw. I'd have swapped it with Lewis.
This is education. You got eye for technical stuff that's really important for beginners man.. these kind of videos help a beginner to get into right habits.. because only the right habits, later on, becomes a natural throw. Thanks

I am a former national championship silver medal winner.. Trust me, most dart players, only move their arms from the elbow and down when throwing darts, the reason for this is because that's how we get most precision and aim into our throws, So it's nothing special, the thing that does differ in this case, is the stance, how low or high, how close or far from our body we position our throwing arm, but in most cases, we only use move from elbow and down when releasing a dart. think of it as a bow releasing an arrow. when we pull back our forearm, its like when pulling back the string on a bow and when we release the string and arrow, that's when we pull our arm forward.
If you're going to have Wolfie in there, you should have chizzy, jockey and Richie Burnett also.. love all their throws and are relatable because they are flawed... Peter wright deserves a mention John Lowe really did have a beautiful action
Anderson would be on the list for best throws bit not to replicate. He grip is snd alignment demands a huge amount of hand eye coordination. He has to time the sideways movement of his elbow to the release perfectly every time he throws a dart in less than 0.3 of a second. Not many can do that constantly tbf. Shows how gifted he is though.
Munji Manji the South African 3 time Champion. Performed Voodoo at the oche and rocked the flamingo feather flights. Many a time poked the bullseye without permission but got off with a slapped shaman bone. Won the Winnie Mandela necklace multiple times for poisonous boar farmer kills.

Eric could possibly have been the best of all time until he started to suffer from what they call "dartitus" which is not being able to release the dart properly. I think that he is not on this list because he had a strange way of holding his dart, none the less he was brilliant.
Taylor has said this as well when asked about nice throwing actions. But in the UK open (in 2012 I believe) when ask by speedy services in an interview "if you could have any players throw who would it be?" He mentions Lowe but decided on Leighton Rees.
You say that Van Den Bergh has the most perfect throw, in that case, if I'm being COMPLETELY honest, I'd have thrown Alan Warriner in there, genuinely, it looks like the most basic throw ever, which is why it's so perfect, he used very basic darts too, almost like a template for any darts player
I think its a shame to not even mention Gary Anderson in such a video. I dont even think its about opinion at this point.. his throw is widely considered as the best throw from a technical standpoint.

In my opinion John Lowe has the best dart form in the history of darts.
I believe RVB, Phil Taylor and Gary Anderson in that order have the smoothest throws.

The only issue with Ricky is the video is called Top players throws to replicate, I wouldn’t recommend replicating it.

Jocky Wilson had a great throwing style IMO. The twitch was AFTER the shot, not during the shot, like Alex Higgins.
Upon watching Leighton Rees there I kind of feel like, and I could be wrong, his throw was similar to if Mark Webster was right-handed.

Yeah Durrant was a weird choice. He's very slow and definitely lowers his elbow before each throw. bit of BDO bias there I think.

My favorite of all time would have to be Eric Bristow. Can't believe he's not even listed.
Eric could possibly have been the best of all time until he started to suffer from what they call "dartitus" which is not being able to release the dart properly. I think that he is not on this list because he had a strange way of holding his dart, none the less he was brilliant.

that's not true...when taylor was asked about a players' throw,he said "look at john lowe"
Taylor has said this as well when asked about nice throwing actions. But in the UK open (in 2012 I believe) when ask by speedy services in an interview "if you could have any players throw who would it be?" He mentions Lowe but decided on Leighton Rees.
For a pure classic throwing action, john lowe was just majestic. Rvb and steve beaton throw so effortlessly, great action.
I think that the best throw is the one that wins the most and we all know who that is.
You say that Van Den Bergh has the most perfect throw, in that case, if I'm being COMPLETELY honest, I'd have thrown Alan Warriner in there, genuinely, it looks like the most basic throw ever, which is why it's so perfect, he used very basic darts too, almost like a template for any darts player
