Hey there! So I posted this video on my history discord and it was greatly received. A Jewish member very informed on this matter said some things that might be of interest to you: “So I finished it and it’s pretty accurate though incredibly condensed description of Jewish life in Europe in the early medival period it I think is a disservice that they really only allude to some of the more troubling violence they were subject to in the later end of the medieval period like it feels like it wants to tip toe around the churches involvement in Jewish persecution a bit though that could be because they didn’t get into the later medieval period were it was more obvious and I don’t think acknowledged the fact that some of the stuff like believing Jewish people are being punished and forcing markings on them like clothing is antisemetic and just because it’s not as bad as other acts of antisemetism and i just think there is a lack of understanding in the idea that the violence Jewish people faced was more institutional then just random acts of violence I’m sorry if this is a bit rambling I just woke up”
Some very good points, I totally get it. In all honesty there's so much more that we could have said, the Jewish experience in Medieval Europe could well be a whole video series and we still wouldn't have done it justice. At the end of the day we decided that the focus needed to be on how it all related to the Chain of Being, and so we had to be very sparing with what we eventually included. These videos are definitely not comprehensive, as much as I wish they could be, but will hopefully inspire people to pursue further research. If it comes across as tiptoeing around the topic I apologise, as that was not my intent. I recognise that as a non-Jewish person I may carry my own biases, without even realising it. I tried my best to avoid that by, for the most part, paraphrasing Robert Chazan, but it is something I will definitely try to work on in future. Please pass on our thanks to the member you quoted, And thank you for your comment!
I’m enjoying this series! Thanks 🙏
This is incredible!
