Attach the words "golf aid" to a common item, and it'll sell for 500% more. Call a driveway marker an "alignment stick" and the price goes from $2.50 to $15.
They make an alignment stick disc thing that holds sticks at various angles for your swing plane, for $80. Or…you could get a chunk of wood and drill holes in it at various angles for almost $nothing. Golf training aids are ridiculous.
Once I was at Walmart checking out their golf stuff. They sold Callaway alignment sticks for $14.95. I then went over to their hardware section and they sold two driveway markers for $3.95. I bought them right away. They work perfectly well as alignment sticks, and the money is in my pocket, not Callaway's.
The best speed training that helped me was hitting 300 fungo fly balls with a 33 ounce baseball bat per day when I was coaching baseball. I picked up like 20 yards on my drives 😂
Golf has intrigued me for 30 years or so, tried many of those but you have left out the most simple and effective , a 7 foot marine rope as used by Dr. Kwon and others. As an average golfer it has improved my timing and understanding of plane considerably. Love ya from the other side of the pond.
I know it’s impossible to show every training aid, however I would love for you to get hold of and do a review of the GEM. Stands for Golf Essential Move from a Scottish PGA pro. It’s designed to set the club and teaches correct release.
I could not swing the GEM without a wobble, trying everything I could imagine, felt duped. Recently came across Intelligent Golf Performance video titled ,” Backswing and Impact fix/ a training aid you need.” After seeing this, it reminded of the gem and sure enough, I could swing it without a wobble. Now, I’m left with two questions; 1. Will this help my golf? 2. Did I need the Gem or could I have gotten the motion with the setup the Intelligent Golf guy had?
Thank you for your open and honest review. Some of these I have really been to try. DsT/lagshot for example. P.S so tired of seeing ads for that damn snap trainer every time I click on your video.
I've only bought a couple of training aids over the years and neither were mentioned here. My fave swing aid is the Medicus (5 iron) club. Its really good for ensuring a good tempo thru the swing and the club gives great feedback when your takeaway is too fast or your follow thru/release is incorrect. I usually swing it for 5 minutes prior to every round. Good value as Ive had it for almost 20 years. The other one I have is a Momentus "Heavy" club. Its great for correcting tempo AND really helps loosen up any stiffness you might have prior to a round, especially for senior golfers. I was kinda surprised you didnt mention them, but hey there are likely thousands more "swing trainers" out there. Great video!!
I've had a Medicus 5 iron in my bag for over 30 years. The immediate feedback shows almost all the imperfections I can come up with. For me, only "over the top" isn't creating a hinge break.
My personal favorite due to it’s amazing impact on my swing is the Medicus breakaway 5 iron. Ball striking has become superb the past 3 months using the Medicus as it gives me a true feel and understanding of where the club head is at all times while making sure I stay on plane
Dude! I used use a medicus 7 iron my ex girlfriend's dad had back in early 2000's. It changed my game forever. I forgot about it. I'm going to search for one.
I have the Medicus 5 iron and driver lol. I have so many aids it’s unreal but those two are my favorite. The hanger is really good but gets annoying taking on and off to transfer feels. The planemate is awesome for working on take away but I don’t hit shots with it and lagshot iron is good just for tempo and warm up. I’ve got a dozen others too
@@CAL4Eagles the best aids I’ve ever bought. Oldest ones I have and still most effective. They train without you having to think about much and I think that’s why
I’ve had the 5 iron version with a Leadbetter training grip for 25 years. Always go back to it as soon as things start to go wrong, soon back on track. Great training aid
The Power Stick (at 5'11") is the old Leadbetter Swing Setter! Not sure if the Leadbetter version is still around (the website appears not to be available now). I thought it was pretty good.
what a great video The thing I love about you is that you are very practicle Why pay big if you don't have to. I am sure you had a great laugh testing some of this stuff
Great video, that devil ball looks worth a try. Might keep me occupied on my putting matt through the long Canadian winter. Another one i have is the Izzo arm trainer, like the funky t-shirt but a lot less crazy looking.
The one aid you didn’t show that I’ve used for years is the weighted swing trainer that starts with a S and ends with a Z (rhymes with skills). Short weighted stick with a training grip, and you can change the weight at the end. It’s great for small apartments with limited room as I can full swing beside my couch. And I pick it up every time I watch a training video to practice a drill. And it’s cheap! Only 40 bucks.
@@D2theLEO thanks! I was googling things that rhymed lol not cutesy-spelling of the word. I looked up "thrills" "drills" "pills" followed by golf trainer...they were all wrong
Hi there, do you know where to get one of those oversize plastic club faces attached to a shaft that guys teach with to demonstrate club face easy to see and a group setting, etc.?
Would have liked to see the prosender in this video. Trottie at Taylor made was messing around with one and it looked super helpful, but is a bit expensive so I’m hesitant.
Thank you for a great video. It was super helpful that you segmented the video so that I could easily go back and re-watch portions that I had interest in.
I’m embarrassed, I’ve spent so much on training aids. I can’t really say any helped me that much. I would say save your money and get a shot simulator, the best one you can afford. A phone with slow motion and a sky trac, gave me the best improvements that I’ve ever experienced, and that includes lessons. I have the Live View, and find it hard to use, a friend with a phone is better. Plus, a good golf simulator set up and friends equals great fun.
Check out the light shaft thing The Golf Sensei shows how to make. It's a piece of plastic pipe with flashlights in both ends. Teaches swing plane. Made one the other day and seems really good.
I appreciate your honest review here! Wondering if you might do another video on putting aids/mats? I'm going to try the Devil Ball and Straight Stick! Thanks again!
i had the straight stick, couldn't get the magnet to click at all and tried everything. it came with a gaurantee so i sent it back and never heard from them in over 2 months. save your money on that one, it's a gimmick.
A great follow up to this video: here are 50 diy ways to do exactly what these items do. Hanger? Use an actual hanger 10 cents, ball on loop for $100 - kids sized basketball at Walmart $5 and $1 for rope, weighted club $2 washers at Home Depot, speed stick? Take and old iron and saw the head off, etc. some of this stuff is ridiculously overpriced. It’s just silly.
It’s interesting that with the Tour Striker Click adapter (approximately at 6:32), you were demonstrating with your trail hand however all of this company’s videos show it on the glove hand. Frankly, all of the competitors demonstrate their devices on their trail hand.
I love these types of videos and it’s amazing that you went through the effort of collecting them all, testing each one, and providing your feedback. The challenge with these videos however is that most people that “test” them, similar to you, well, they have a great swing. I don’t feel you can test a fix for something you don’t have broken. You can’t test a slice fixer tool if you don’t have a slice. And trying to replicate a slice is no where near to a person that has a slice that is trying their @$$ off to not slice. These product reviews would be better if you brought in people with issues and have them see if it really “fixes” them. Just a thought.
Haaa!!!! Minor detail but I love how you have the PC in the background actually on each product website as you go over them. Attention to the little details, its what separates the good from the great!!!
I’ve got several good training aid. Medicus is great. But the best is the Swing Jacket. Forever I could not hit a driver. Never no matter what. I saw the ad for that and ended up buying it with a 60day money back guarantee. With it on, on the 3rd swing, I hit a beautiful long drive with a pro draw. Never looked back. Driver is my best club in the bag with my putter. LOL.
My vote is for the Hol-lee roller dog ball. There is one size that's perfect for between your forearms. You can hook a keyring through the lattice structure and hang it off a lanyard.
I would just want the compression iron that has a bent shaft. Teaching you how to come in at the right angle for compression seems the best to learn with your own natural swing. That's just me though everything else is meh, maybe the devil putter ball lol I'd use that too
@@JeffPassageCPA In my experience if they aren't adjusted correctly they just flip flop all over the place and are more frustrating than anything else. If you can get them dialed in they can be helpful at least in the backswing.
That makes so much sense on the late release. I can almost never make the magnet release on anything but the lowest setting and I know I have a super late release.
Great vid Matt. Thank you for ding these for us. I'm with a few others in the comments....wondering what your opinion is on ProSndr and Dewiz. Thank you again.
As a long time golf nerd, I have many of these and some old school ones as well ... The Dave Pelz Putting Track and Teacher Clips, the Medicus (hinged shaft), the Momentus (heavy shaft), and the forerunner to the AutoFlex ... the legendary Whippy Tempomaster. Fun stuff, but do any of them really help? Probably not.
The one training aid I've used and liked isn't on your list. It's Greg Norman's Secret, a special glove that fits your trailing hand (right hand for most of us). About $28 bucks, available online in various places. It trains the trailing hand (specifically the thumb) to keep in a certain position throughout the swing, promoting the proper release with that hand. It works to stop wrist flipping in the down swing, promoting the trailing hand to do the proper crossover AFTER impact. It fixed my right hand action within a week of working with it. A bit uncomfortable until one gets used to it.
They do make something like the chuckit for golf, it's called the doggie driver. it's a driver you can put a tennis ball in. I got one at a thrift store for $4 and it's actually pretty cool
I bought the swingaid. Yellow piece of plastic with 1 screw. It makes your brain think it works. Ive used them all. The best one that works that ive found...... Getting proper lie angles bent and PROPER fitting. Proper fitting is the first thing any golfer should figure out how to do. Its the difference between having a sharp or dull sword.
You've missed your call as a stand up comedian! Subtle sarcasm, facial messaging, and when you wore the "straight jacket" retailing for $69 but probably cost $2 to make had me laughing on the floor! Some of these products probably could have been categorized in the warped sexual market; well done!
Dude that’s awesome you threw the rubber ball in at the end. I’ve been thinking about a straight stick or a wrist monitor, but I think I might go with the ball and the 24$ grip aid. Thanks short game
I have a different version of the Pure One from Sean Foley with a really tiny head and it helps. Also have a yellow knockoff of the orange whip and it's great for tempo with the driver. I was hoping you had The Golfinator there. It's one of those big hoops to guide your swing but with a belt that holds you like a jolly jumper. (It's fake but I saw an ad making fun of silly training devices. It was pretty funny)
Honestly, this is the first positive review I've ever seen for the Straight Stick. Most videos just show the good release trigger happening every time, no matter how you swing it.
Somewhere between 3 and 5 K worth of product's you tested, nice that the $3 ball was your fav, there are many more training aids, most are too expensive for what you really get out of them, but we are all ever hopeful that one of them will be the ONE!!
So many that you missed. Blue Strike (similar to straight stick), Medicus hinged, Matzie Assist and The Pill for putting are among some of the better ones.
This reminds me of the woman in Tin Cup who had all the gimmicks and some of them were over the top . But the best part is when tin cup put them on and gets busted wearing them in his trailer was priceless.
In response to your review of the Tour striker PlaneMate, the first training and protocols are focused around body rotation and full arm extension and release. Done with lighter band and wedge and no full swing. I have to assume that you did not follow proper protocol if you had any back pain what so ever. Most men over 40 on the Driving Range have very little to no body rotation, theirs is an arm only swing. The PlaneMate could be of great value to most of them.
@@rahickey002 yeah full swing stuff I just do position work and then take swings without it. But I’ll do actual chips with it on. I use to roll the club open on take away and still hit the ball quite nice but as I’d get tired it’d get sloppy and it’s helped the take away a lot
Best swing aid I bought was free. A clothes hanger on grip for left wrist hinge is perfect for learning lag and ball first contact compressing the ball.
His favorite training aid is a $3 inflatable ball. That was a fun ending after seeing the astronomical prices for the other training aids. I just purchased that inflatable ball after watching this and it does work extremely well.
Your best advice comment was "Simple is best". Some of these "training aids" are so cumbersome and complicated that they're not worth the time (or money) to set up and use enough to make any difference or worthwhile. Many of them can be duplicated at home for free with using simple items you find around the house. The ones I like the best are ones that can also be multi purpose, such as the green ball and the chuck stick. The ball can be used between the arms and also used to check your downswing motion by throwing it at your feet. Same thing with the chuck stick. If you stoop using it, you can get a dog to play with! 😅
Ideas. How about you go to what some of us consider cheap courses, like Trident Lakes in St Mary Georgia, priced like 30 for 18? It’s a well kept course. Or Deer Creek in Indiana another below $50.00. Again very well kept course. Or right here in my hometown of Fort Meyers, Eastwood golf course. Not everyone has $120.00 to $300.00 as is charged on the Ocean course that I have played in Palm Coast. Just a thought.
The superspeed training videos are free to access, I just bought an adjustable weight club on Amazon for $40 which was way cheaper than the $200 Superspeed charges.
Total Tin Cup vibes am I right? I saw the Chuck It in the Thumbnail and I thought hmm. Turns out my dogs favorite toy is also my new training aid, who knew. Great Video Mr. Short Game, Thank You for the incredible job with this video. Ordered a Putt Out Devil Ball.
A good service for all of us hackers. One device not mentioned is the Pro Swing Training System by Dan Martin. It's a rope with a golf grip and a weighted soft cylinder. Purports to teach a non-leveraged swing, essentially keeping the cylinder in an orbit, rather like David's sling. I like the concept but the devil is in the details. If you haven't guessed, I've ordered one and will try it out.
some solid points in here on some of these training aids. however, I will say you aren't using a few of them correctly at all. reading directions helps. the swing align goes over your biceps, not your forearms. it's good for alignment and keeping your arms and body connected, so if you have a bad flying elbow or not getting good width it will help there. the flight deck is also mostly for a driver and hitting the ball the other direction to make sure your angle of attack is positive, which is an easy way for most amateurs to pick up some extra yards easily. you place the orange things to work on swing path. to make sure you aren't coming over the top, etc. if someone hit one of those hard enough to send it flying down the range... odds are their swing isn't very good and likely came over the top in a big way. the prosendr from sean foley and david woods is a great one, and the DST compressor is a good one that you have on here. I found the rypstick, the stack and superspeed sticks all very useful to gain clubhead speed. oh, and teenagers should definitely be working on speed and training with a good coach or TPI certified instructor. this is 1960. most good teachers will tell you that they much prefer young players to learn how to swing as fast as they can as early as they can.
u prolly have no clue but i have my irons with a 1inch extension.. the straight stick is that something that could be extended as well or do you think itd work fine for me without an extension ... im 6'4
Why is everybody acting like this is so expensive? People pay $500 for drivers and $1,500 for irons and $75 to play a round of golf. I don't understand the logic here? If you have a training that you buy for $80 or $100 that literally lasts you 10 years how is that not a good investment if it's useful?
Made quite a few training aids because of the insane price of the originals. Just made some speed sticks from old driver shafts and nuts. I bought the ds compressor a few years ago and highly recommend it.
@@mikeharvey3798 take old / broken driver shafts and epoxy heavy nuts on the end, I used M16 heavy duty nuts. Total weight of each speed stick is 250, 290 and 350 grams. Good luck.
Quite the comprehensive video. Must have been an effort to put it all together. I like the 'chuck it' sadly, I'd never make it past the door without my 4 year old labrador noticing.
The only training aid worth anything is a good teacher & they can be hard to find for amateurs. I've been through 3 over the years & 2 of them taught me nothing I didn't already know. I've actually learned much more on UA-cam over the past year that I could probably give lessons. After watching many of these videos, I've learned why I'm making the mistakes I've been making for years & how to fix them absolutely free of charge so I really should thank the people who provide all of this information nearly on a daily basis. So, thanks to all for giving their time & effort to help us reach our goals.

Have you ever tried the Impact Snap? It is supposed to help with your release.
Excellent video, thank you so much. I like the speed stick with magnet the best.
Honestly, this is the first positive review I've ever seen for the Straight Stick. Most videos just show the good release trigger happening every time, no matter how you swing it.
That is my experience. I have a garage full of this junk, because I’m a total nerd. Straight stick is one of the few things I’ve returned.
I like the [SKLZ Golf Tempo & Grip Trainer for Right-Handed Golfers] swing speed and builds muscle
Somewhere between 3 and 5 K worth of product's you tested, nice that the $3 ball was your fav, there are many more training aids, most are too expensive for what you really get out of them, but we are all ever hopeful that one of them will be the ONE!!
What about the Orange Whip ??
I’m rocking the gbox and swing shirt to da club this weekend
What are your thoughts on the pressure plate by why golf?
So many that you missed. Blue Strike (similar to straight stick), Medicus hinged, Matzie Assist and The Pill for putting are among some of the better ones.
I just googled swing trainers yesterday and then this video came out. Excellent as always! Thanks.
Have you reviewed the swing caddie or swing rite they are the same product.
It’s a good aid. I really only use it for chipping and working on my take away
It was when I saw it being used for chipping and putting, I just had to have one of my own. And it worked,
@@rahickey002 yeah full swing stuff I just do position work and then take swings without it. But I’ll do actual chips with it on. I use to roll the club open on take away and still hit the ball quite nice but as I’d get tired it’d get sloppy and it’s helped the take away a lot
I love my Orange Whip. I recommend
Tie a handtowel to the end of an old club for speed...use a mirror for everything else.
Thoughts on golf forever swing trainer and dewiz?
Matt, did you review the Ledbetter "Straight Away"? What's the story on that?
How about the MISIG (Most Important Stretch in Golf) and the parachute(SP) driver attachment trainer? Good job here with all that stuff.
I use the MISIG before I swing my weighted driver for 4sets of on both devices, It works for me I'm 66 years old , I have about 103 to 105 swing speed
Hey great videos keep them coming. Do a review please on the vision track pro thanks
Best swing aid I bought was free. A clothes hanger on grip for left wrist hinge is perfect for learning lag and ball first contact
compressing the ball.
His favorite training aid is a $3 inflatable ball. That was a fun ending after seeing the astronomical prices for the other training aids. I just purchased that inflatable ball after watching this and it does work extremely well.
Medicus dual hinge driver works well.
Lagshot 7 iron is a game changer...keeps my tempo in check and instant feedback
Agree, I have that, probably haven't practiced enough with it for me to call it a game changer, but yeah, a little pricey, but worth it.
The plastic hanger thing I have used an actual plastic coat hanger and just held it on my grip it's the exact same thing
This was actually a pretty useful video! What's your opinion about the DeWiz training aid?
how to save money.
No Leadbetter straightaway?
I bought a knock-off Sure Set on Temu for $15. They also have the magnetic device that attaches to the club face. Probably some of the others, too.
some solid points in here on some of these training aids. however, I will say you aren't using a few of them correctly at all. reading directions helps. the swing align goes over your biceps, not your forearms. it's good for alignment and keeping your arms and body connected, so if you have a bad flying elbow or not getting good width it will help there. the flight deck is also mostly for a driver and hitting the ball the other direction to make sure your angle of attack is positive, which is an easy way for most amateurs to pick up some extra yards easily. you place the orange things to work on swing path. to make sure you aren't coming over the top, etc. if someone hit one of those hard enough to send it flying down the range... odds are their swing isn't very good and likely came over the top in a big way. the prosendr from sean foley and david woods is a great one, and the DST compressor is a good one that you have on here.
Love this! Thanks for including Devil Ball 😁
u prolly have no clue but i have my irons with a 1inch extension.. the straight stick is that something that could be extended as well or do you think itd work fine for me without an extension ... im 6'4
I don’t think it extends sorry
I see alot of great reviews on the Momentus weighted clubs. Any thoughts on those?
How about the impact bag in the background? Since you have it, I assume you like it.
Could you show directions on how to make it?
MrShortGame, thank you for the reviews!
I think I'll break out one of those kids balls and see if it helps my swing.
Thank you for sharing your videos on UA-cam!
I love this guy wish i could go golfing with him
I love myself these types of videos
