  • Ariel, who was actually Amy, had an epic yet unpleasant experience on the Xfactor UK and struggled with her mental health until she passed. Here we briefly explore the conspiracy that was born and whether we believe Xfactor had a hand in her passing.

I personally applaud anyone who makes an effort to audition for a show such as this type. I am so shy and introverted. I cannot image how much courage, confidence and resilience it takes to appear in front of judges, who have shown the propensity to be harsh.

Her story is so sad. Honestly, I think if she had never auditioned for Xfactor, perhaps she could have recovered from her mental issues. Perhaps she could have found a lover or another person who would have taken her away from the toxicity of her mother and she could be fine now. Xfactor only made her life worse.

Agreed, she would’ve at least been able to try to work through her depression without a cloud of hate around her. I can’t imagine how hard it would be to constantly be told that you’re ugly and untalented when you are already very sad and lonely. I was heartbroken for her during my research as I came across all those comments.

She was a vulnerable person and the producers had a duty of care to keep her and all contestants safe. As a mental health nurse I often have seen auditions were people whose behaviour is out of step with what would normally be expected in that environment are clearly experiencing severe mental illness or personality disorder. Mental illness is generally episodic and people absolutely can live fulfilling and independent lives and should be encouraged to do so - but at the same time program makers need to prioritise the welfare of participants. There was a very simple decision that should have been made and that was to not to broadcast her audition as she was struggling at this point - very simple and sensible. But they used it to make her a laughing stock for viewers entertainment. This stress would have been overwhelming for anyone let alone someone dealing with her diagnoses - it would have caused terrible stress which was avoidable. The show makers are culpable, they wouldn't have done this to a person with a physical illness or condition it's stigma of the worst kind. It is simply a case of keeping people safe and looking after their wellbeing.

      @55tranquility 25 днів тому +1

@@UKImmigrationLawGeek yes absolutely I agree , morally you would imagine or hope that the production team would think this is not the right thing to do- but sadly didn't, but this is a theme with reality shows - numerous cases of participants in love island, big brother etc have ended their lives. You don't need to be a mental health expert to see her behaviour is so out of step and not at all what you would expect - you can't write this off as quirky, or creative - when I saw it I thought she very much looks like she is in a manic episode or similar. I think it is reprehensible how production companies do things like this, don't know how they sleep tbh.

@@55tranquility It is such a relief to see that people with consciences do still exist. Furthermore, in shows such as "Big Brother," it is also a case of learning how to get back and revert to "real life" if that is possible.

just to help you guys fully understand, a bipolar diagnosis would cancel out a depression diagnosis because bipolar is manic depression so she would’ve been diagnosed as bipolar and schizophrenic. the mania of bipolar disorder is a psychotic feature and then schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder as a whole so that dual diagnosis would come with a LOT of disconnect from reality. psychotic features basically include hallucinations (often people think of seeing things that aren’t there but most of the time it’s hearing things), delusions (believing things that aren’t true or logical), and paranoia (illogical uncontrollable fear and suspicion). bipolar disorder on it’s own would not cause much of this as it is not a full on psychotic disorder, just has some features when manic, but mixed with schizophrenia these two would create hell with not functioning in society as the rest of us do. plus the inescapable depression that is guaranteed to come with bipolar disorder (manic depression) if not treated. and to top it all off, neither of these illnesses can be cured, only managed. amy would’ve been struggling to get a grip on her own mind far more than any of us could imagine. also if i was incorrect about any of this feel free to correct me!

Ariel reminds me of a singer named Koby who also came on American Idol with her own original song designed to showcase her range and vocal abilities. Although talented, she was likewise totally rejected but the judges did give her some great advice on the reasons for their decision - Ariel didn't get cut any slack because of the inflated, pontifical attitude she started with. Contestants deal with the pressure of auditioning in various ways and apparently, hers was to present herself as a vocal instructor who's giving lessons to the judges - a plan that was doomed from the start. She did have some talent and it's unfortunate that this misguided strategem completely destroyed her life.

And I agree with u, I think I should’ve elaborated better on my stance because although I do feel xfactor contributed to her demise, I should’ve stated that she contributed to her own as well with her mis-steps. I realized after I posted the video that I’ve cut a lot of my words out and probably lost some context to what I was trying to say. I’m going to keep that in mind for future videos. I remember that Amy/Ariel said that her appearance on the X Factor was her playing a character, if I could find the comment that she mentioned it on, I would drop it in here.
She did a really lovely rendition of "I Want An Alien For Christmas" by Fountains of Wayne (actually, that was how I discovered the song in the first place), it should be on her UA-cam channel of which is kept up as a sort of "archive" channel now, the UA-cam channel, I think was called Arabella Starchild.

Yes some of the contestants got painted in the wrong light but Amy didnt haveto go in with an attitude, that was her choice to behave like that, nobody elses and I think we need to be honest about that. I didnt hear anyone telling her to throw her number sticker at the judges, that was uncalled for. Regardless it is sad she obviously had mental illness and stepping into public scrutiny was never going to help that. Just watch her original audition : you can't explain that kind of arrogance, tone, posture and general reaction just by saying "she was coached to be self-confident and brag a bit" neither can you explain it by "she was upset by a remark about her mom"
Being hurt by a cruel remark doesn't lead to acting arrogant, it doesn't make any sense. Another person with a different personality and attitude would express themselves differently.
Someone has to take responsibility here for their lacking 18 years-old self, and oh shocker, she deflected all responsibility onto external sources.

Speaking as a trial lawyer of thirty yearsm, I am outraged by these revelations about how the X FACTOR producers manipulated the audio and video of these auditions of AMY and DEBI to portray these contestants in such a false and humiliating fashion which ruined their lives to the point where AMY commited suicide...scandalous.
From a legal point of view I would argue that even if these contestants signed an NDA or some other form of WAIVER, which obviously they must have done , those agreements could not and should not have gone so far as to have allowed or justified the producers editing and altering the actual audio or video of those auditions to FABRICATE what the contestants said or did. Even if those contracts contained such broad and abusive clauses, if they were carried to this extreme, as they were with these two contestants, they would be deemed to be illegal in a court of law because it would constitute a form of exempting yourself from GROSS NEGLIGENCE...which no contract in any western judicial system would be upheld as being valid. For example, what if the contract said " you have to cede us your first three children to audition "...even if someone signed such a contract it would be deemed to be against PUBLIC ORDER AND GOOD MORALS and would be struck down by the courts.
I am saddened to hear about this ABUSE OF RIGHTS because I love these talent shows.

After reading that Ariel was a character portrayed by Amy, I really feel like she would've been a darn good actress / singer.
That X Factor audtion really did scream "acting" to me - and I would've loved to see her do acting, or a different kind of singing with the variety of voices she had.
It's so sad that this show became a hassle for so many contestents - none of whom were even contestents as the winner was already decided before auditions began. It's pathetic, and no one should have to deal with even more mental stress than the norm - life is hard enough as it is, even moreso if you've been in an abusive relationship or have day to day struggles with mental health, and these shows add to it with their contracts and very high likability to make you look the fool when in reality, everything was a set up from the get-go.
"Reality TV" and "competitions" need to be just that: Real, and competitions need to actually be competitions. No fabricated drama (let anything real that happens happen, but y'know, keep safety in mind here too???), no "winner is picked before anyone even competes" nonsense...Just let the shows air as is and edit out things that are unneccesary - and not to trick viewers who aren't even seeing it live into believing that "she said this" or "he did that".

What I don't understand is why the judges only went by the one song (her supposed composed piece).
Okay, her idea of combining multiple styles/genres to demonstrate versatility was probably not the best thing to do (although the high note in the end was quite impressive).
That said, she did offer to sing something different and specific, if that's what the judges wanted. They could have at least allowed her to do that much, and based their judgement on her ability to sing that instead.

Her constructed song was a great idea in theory but didn’t turn out the way she intended lol. You’re right they should’ve let her sing something else. @@LadyCandic I feel that her, "I am not a number" statement, and throwing the number tag in front of the judges was a bit unnecessary.
It somewhat creates a bad impression - especially to the viewers and the judges, considering that they're seeing her for the first time and aren't aware that it's just a caricature.
That being said, she did once offer to sing something else and it may have been better if she had pursued that move, rather than justify her composition.
From the looks of it, I don't think that the judges particularly targeted/attacked her in this like they did with Debi, Zoe or a few others; this one just seems to be an unfortunate incident that went dreadfully wrong.

What I am defending here is the original show, not bullying and harassment, if that is what happened. Certainly people are still seeing her audition on line and making critical comments, but I don't think that is "bullying and harassment." And you yourself point out that when this actually took place social media was not so pervasive. I don't even remember if these auditions were being shown on UA-cam or what UA-cam was like then. She looks completely different in the videos you show. Has gained about 50 pounds, and face is completely different when not made up. So when was it that she was "unable to show her face in public"? If she had just taken off the makeup and the corn rows, she would not have been recognizable. I saw a video of her online singing an apparently original composition called "I want an alien for Christmas," and it was, as Simon would have said, "a complete and utter nightmare." I also think it is ridiculous to claim that her appearance on the X factor caused her to take her life 12 YEARS afterwards. I also think, and you partially alluded to it, that part of the reason she acted the way she did was that she had contempt for the show, yet wanted to be on it, so she wanted to demonstrate that she was more sophisticated than the regular contestants. Reality TV shows are not obligated to provide a psych evaluation for anyone who auditions.

From all the information contained in this video, I would guess that she would have had just as much risk of suicide if she had never been on the show. When I saw that audition I thought she was hateful and thought she was superior to others. I did not think she was mentally ill (if she was at the time), and I don't know how anyone else would have been expected to know it and to treat her differently because of it.
