- In this video I go through all the additional wave forms that are available for the Novation Peak polyphonic synthesizer in order to give you an idea of what they sound like and how you might use them. This has ended up being a VERY LONG video, over 55 minutes in total, but hopefully it might be useful to you if you are thinking of investing in a Peak or want to know its capabilities in comparison to other synths.
Thank you for this! I’ve been wanting a Peak for a very long time. This is very informative and helps convince me it would be an excellent purchase giving myriad soundscapes to design with and explore. I need to better understand the rest of its architecture but suspect a Peak is in my not-too-distant future!
Very informative and descriptive demonstration. Good, that you show the waveforms. Really beautiful arpeggios and sounds, created in pleasantly few steps. Highly inspiring. Thank you very much for your effort!
That reverb is magic
Exact video I was looking for to make my decision. Good job.
one of the best tutorials of the peak. very informative thank you
Thanks for this walkthrough! I love my Peak but consider the wavetables its least interesting feature -- not only would it be great to upload one's own waves, but the ability to morph between them would be really nice too!
Marvelous sounds.
Excellent, informative and enjoyable :-)
Cool stuff. This will be useful to refer back to in future when creating patches.
Would love to see a native editor for the PEAK on Components like they just did for the CIRCUIT. The Waveform visuals there are super useful.
Imagine importing user created wavetables, the dream! Maybe one day Novation will let us
@@Dudderlyful Looks like your dreams came true.
Thanks for this! I love my Peak but I would never invest the time to “study” all the wavetables. Your video saved me a lot of noodling time! Cheers
I have been spoiled by the oscilloscope in my Monologue. I think every synth should have one built in.
just use your ears, i almost never look at the oscilloscope on the minilogue, i personally think that it's an overrated gadget
The timbre of some of the waveshapes sound very fm. Thanks for sharing Tim :-)
Thank you for doing this. I tend to avoid wavetables out of some unconscious bias in favor of traditional waveforms.
Thanks for taking the time to go so in depth! On side note, I hope the Ultranova gets a MKII with some Waldorf style wavetable and fm capabilities in the future.
i really need this synth.
A great walk-through. And the Novation Peak is a fantastic synth. Now, can I get one? I hope so!
Merci ces tables d'onde sonnent merveilleusement bien, j'aimerais beaucoup me le payer un jour.
Hi Tim. Do you know about the new update of Novation Peak? It would be great to see your review about this update.
Fudjin Cat Yes I have seen some info on it but I don’t have special access to it, I am waiting in line like everyone else to download it. Hope to get a video together over Xmas some time.
sound quite clean
44:00 The "Rock On" waveform....lol
Not sure if you are aware of this but there’s an update coming out for the Peak this month which supposedly gives a whole lot more wavetables and more features
666JGNotts Yes indeed. It comes out on general release next week. I hope to put together a mini review video some time over Xmas.
...after 15 Minutes of excited listening I realized that most of them are sounding very similar or even the same, when you turn the knob the right position. Skip, skip, same, same. thanks for this nerdy video, though.
I truly hope they do a keyboard version.
@gridsleep Nah. I don't mind doing it that way but I'd much rather have an all inclusive unit.
@gridsleep Peak and Arturia Keystep best thing.
Just realised that you missed a big opportunity at the end of the video... you should have said 'Plus tubular bells' ;-)
Wavetakles reminds me to the sound of Georg Deuter
thanks
15:10 I bet State Azure uses this one :)
This or the Studiologic Sledge Black?
I have not had the opportunity to try out the Sledge. But certainly from the point of view of form factor, I much prefer the Peak, I just don’t have room for another synth with keyboard attached.
Tim Shoebridge I think the sledge has more wavetables and user sampling.....although the sound engine isnt as state of the art.
I personally prefer keyboard synths so its a plus for me, but for most with no room I see the issue.
I think Novation really painted themselves into a corner with the small amount of wavetables and the small amount of variation per table. Yammer on about NCOs all you want, but I feel like the Peak would have been a more interesting synth if they’d just used the Nova oscillators and the new analog filters. I look forward to the new update. I hope they don’t blow it.
Uh... ok. Yes I agree with you, I think Novation should have more fully embraced the digital side of the synth, there is a lot this synth could do but can’t if you know what I mean. I’m hoping the firmware update due soon will improve the wavetable capabilities.

Those OSC sound great, no aliasing, clean sound without sounding digital. Peak is a very powerful synth and doesn't sound like everything else on the market. It has balls. With 1.2 update, the Wavetable now has a total of 60. Stop complaining.
John Adams Why? From my vantage point, it seems that Novation listened to my complaints and addressed all of them. So, why don’t you shut up? Thanks!

Kiss my ass.
