BBQ cleaning with vinegar and baking soda

Do you use the wire cup brush on the grates or just the bottom of the grill?
I see some people use salt, vinegar and baking soda.
Think the salt does anything extra?

On the grates both sides not the bowl- salt does nothing

For years it was one name without the Mc. Idea came from B52 song Rock Lobster. I might go back to the original after reading your question.
