This is where the cool dude, and the nerd cross paths, and even share common ground. Good stuff Hayes. I'm still blown away by how good you were at Winfield. It may be a contest, but for the likes of me, it's an exhibition of the talent that surrounds us. (That means you)! 1st, 2nd, 3rd,...it's so deep, a great thing for the world of Bluegrass. Keep up the good work.
This is one of the simplest and informative lessons I’ve ever seen. Any new guitar player with a good ear could be playing bluegrass leads in no time following these tips.
I have been teaching the blended pentatonic 8-tone scale for awhile now in blues lessons and now that I'm getting into bluegrass I'm really glad to see someone else utilizing it explicitly as a scale in its own right. Great stuff!
@HayesGriffin I find the easiest thing to do (to maintain a bluesy sound which starts to fall apart as you get too harmonically dense for too long) is use the whole scale but switch between emphasizing (i.e. landing on) the major pentatonic with passing tones/embellishments from the whole scale. And vice versa. Since you have a jazz education I'm sure you've already noticed that this scale is also really close to the "lydian mode" of Barry Harris' minor six diminished scale. I am excited to see more of your work! Love your stuff with Marcel too!
I’ve been searching through videos and videos to find the answers you have here. Thank you ! I am so relieved to finally understand what has gotten in my way with improv. 🙏
@@HayesGriffin I am on a long overdue journey to learn to play Bluegrass Leads, and this type of content is so valuable. I need to slow it down and apply the concepts and the physical repetition. Best to ya!
This is a Jayne Henderson guitar (Wayne’s daughter) and she opens up her list at the end of every year for orders. The apple definitely didn’t fall from the tree, she builds amazing instruments!
i can't find a code for a triad mini-course!
My bad! You can get access to the course here: beta.hayesgriffin.club/offers/BirJyY3Z

Awesome! I’d love to examine more of a blues approach to this concept on electric. Thanks for the comment!

Elizabeth Henderson sells them on her website 😊🤘
Is the open G string missing from your chart of the C pentatonic scale @5:34? Or am I missing something
You are correct, there should be an open G on that chart. Thanks for pointing it out!
Next step for the IV chord, is it to use the flat 3 and 7 of it as well?
Great stuff..And hes got tabs...Jam on...

Tension and resolution are IMPORTANT.
Agreed 🤘
Shoot, that sound so good I just might add a couple of courses of strings to my Mando, make it a Mando-Rick and revolutionize bluegrass.
briliant!!
How long was the wait for the Henderson?

Wait what, there's wrong notes in bluegrass?
I’ve played them all, bro 😎
Great lesson Hayes, I don't see the link to the lesson on how to properly use flat thirds
Just fixed it! Thanks for pointing that out David. Here is a direct link for you: ua-cam.com/video/_2qlrDf3Dvw/v-deo.html
I'm 0:40 in and I'm gonna have to compliment you on your shirt
Nintendo kid all the way 😊🙏🏼

"The major pentatonic scale is just a dressed up triad." I'm going to stitch that on a pillow, or get at tattoo of it, or something.
😆🤘
I can pick the scale but it doesn’t sound like that I don’t know why
In my journey, the scale was one piece of the puzzle. Patterns were another piece, as well as licks and solos from the masters.
