I started learning bluegrass about a year and a half ago. My buddy showed me your channel and the first lesson I watched was the Watch It Fall lesson. I got the first break down after bashing my head into it for a couple of weeks. The next tab I really focused on was Fiddler's Dram/Whiskey Before Breakfast by Norman Blake. I've been working on that song for nearly a year now, first getting it up to speed note for note. During that time, I've been delving into many different arrangements of WBB. Tony + Norman, Bryan Sutton, Doc Watson, Julian Lage, and many Bluetubers. I now play several variations and each time I play it, the arrangement of variations always differ. I've been wanting to learn this song for a while now. What perfect timing! I'll be donating when I download this tab later today. I really think you're one of the best teachers on this platform!
Marcel I just want to thank you for all the amazing lessons and content. I have always been a metal/rock player but lately my kentucky blood has bee taking over and a deep love for bluegrass has erupted in my soul. This lesson has given me so much confidence in learning tunes and trying to get that much better at the style and art form. Thank you so much!
This is great in so many ways! Keep this series coming. I love the song history and context, too. Males me seem smarter when I go to jams and everyone is almost twice my age and grew up on this stuff!
Great tutorial! Im an intermediate player from scotland, so no background in bluegrass but love fiddle tunes on guitar. For me, this format really is the business. Appreciating your production quality too.
These fiddle lessons are really helping me understand more about bluegrass guitar playing. Thank you and please keep this series rolling it’s so enjoyable picking up the guitar again and learning from these videos
I love these breakdowns even as someone who's played for 20+ years (god am I old now?). I really enjoy seeing how other players see the basic melody of the tune.
This is one of my faves and I definitely know more variations of this than any other and it’s the first one I created my own variation for that I think sounds good haha. Thanks for making this !!!!!
Heck yeah, one of my favorites! And I needed this. I can play the hell out of a version of Salt Creek but I lack those little "real deal" runs... I'm speaking the babble version of Salt Creek, you are playing the KY native version.. and I'm her for it. TY!
I like you relating the idea that the melodic statement, (meat and potatoes), can itself be embellished, so long as it is still recognizable, but the turn around and tag parts are fair game! I like the idea of staying fairly close first time through, then try something different 2nd time thru. Of course, I hardly ever play what I think I'm gonna play, funny that.
Love this lesson!!! Also have to ask if there’s an error in the last tab - the linear line over the F chord. Could it be 5th fret on the E string instead of the 7th fret? …or do I have my ears on backwards..?
Thanks Marcel. A suggestion: I think you should make it clear what type of note you're referring to when you refer to beats per minute - are they quarter notes or half notes? Otherwise, things can become confusing.
Totally, it is confusing. As a general rule bluegrass musicians almost always do their tempo markings in cut time. Here's a video about it: ua-cam.com/video/08USF-1_9ik/v-deo.html
Why does that melody over the f chord sound so good? It doesn’t really use notes out of an f scale like you might use when playing over a c or d chord in a song with a g root?
I think there is a wonderful woman involved . Love you Sir . Thank you anyway . greetings from Austria. you know the country in the Alps. No kangoooroos!!!!!
First fiddle tune I learned. A very simple version. Ive been watching youtube vids and adding them into what I first learned. I really like Mike Cramers rendition. Great lesson Here Marcel! ua-cam.com/video/8EaVIcQzgik/v-deo.htmlsi=5GV2fb6zpDwEPCnN
As a player just getting into Bluegrass, I really appreciate the extra content included in these lessons. Keep up the great work Marcel!
Please keep doing these ! Absolutely love it. Thanks @marcel

Well done. Clear, concise, approachable.
Also, really liked the improvisation of the song at the intro.
Thank you, Marcel!

Really enjoyed this video and how you broke everything down.

I will now be learning this one as well haha. I’m actually in the middle of learning Andy Hatfields arrangement on it.
Yay, I've been waiting on another one of these. You've absolutely made my day. Thanks Marcel
Nice guitar and tone! Picked one up last year and been loving it ever since! 👌
Loved it. Thanks for showing all of the variations. Great presentation.
Needed this! Thank you so much!!
Thabk you for bringing this classic to the masses!!!
This is what we have been missing. Great lesson
We're bringing it back baby!

Heck yeah, one of my favorites! And I needed this. I can play the hell out of a version of Salt Creek but I lack those little "real deal" runs... I'm speaking the babble version of Salt Creek, you are playing the KY native version.. and I'm her for it. TY!
Bro I love that upstairs hangout zone! Looks so cozy.
Well worth the wait !
Excellent content. Thank you. 👍
Not sure why I skipped over this tune thinking it was extremely difficult lol. Great lesson!
I think this one is pretty guitar friendly for a fiddle tune.
Love that crosspicking sounds like fingerpicking
Norman Blake uses double stops on the first phrase of the A part on his version of Salt River. Sounds killer. Highly recommend checking that out.
Great stuff Marcel, gonna do a private some day!!!
Thanks for the lesson, Marcel!
May I suggest a name for the series?.. “Fiddle Tune Fridays” perhaps? 🤷🏻♂️

LOVE THIS!
Marcel, you should keep that guitar!! It fits you!
Damn you ripped it on the intro Marcel
Love this lesson!!! Also have to ask if there’s an error in the last tab - the linear line over the F chord. Could it be 5th fret on the E string instead of the 7th fret? …or do I have my ears on backwards..?
Whoops, you're right. 5th fret is what I meant!
The history is my favorite part
I like this.
just in time
Dude! You need to find a way to keep that guitar. It sounds awesome!
Do some more like this, very good,😅
Where did you get the Dale hat
Who even cares about the rest of the video!! I've watched the first 30 seconds about 150 times now!! Sonnnnn 😂
Syncopation at :17 is tasty
Haha same!!

@@LessonsWithMarcel Thanks Marcel; agreed - cut time rules!

Unique Tone of this Dreadnaught. Who is the luthier/builder? Very even mids and highs
Santa Cruz, I talk about the guitar at 2:35!!
@ - a Tony Rice attributed box… I should have known. Lol
Marcel where did you get the hat? I want one.
All my favorite hats are from webigmoto.com including this one!
more fiddle tune videos!
I grew up next to salt creek so I’m going to choose to believe that it’s about that one specifically
Now, do one on Katy Hill.
Hi Marcel! I'm reading D on screen but happen to hear E in the chord progression. Thanks anyway, it sounds good!
Capo 2nd fret!
@LessonsWithMarcel Oh stupid me, didn't even noticed, it was written in G. 🙂
You should cover some Don Reno stuff
🤓TECHNICALLY a TURNAROUND is ....just kidding. Great, as always.
Noice wan, bruvva.
