Introduced in 2006, the Honda Ridgeline has always been a unique pickup truck. Instead of the traditional body-on-frame construction with a solid-axle rear end, the Ridgeline adopted unibody construction with an independent rear suspension. While most midsize pickups offer cab-style, bed-length, and engine choices galore, the Ridgeline comes with a five-passenger crew cab body, all-wheel drive, and a single available engine. While it looks like a conventional midsize pickup, it drives differently. Competitive midsize trucks, such as the Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Ford Ranger are very similar to each other in construction, capabilities, and looks. The Jeep Gladiator is another midsize truck that stands apart.
The Ridgeline is about 2 inches shorter than the shortest Tacoma and Colorado, and it's half an inch shorter than the crew-cab Ranger. Toyota offers a long-wheelbase Tacoma that is 15 inches longer than the Ridgeline. The Toyota, Chevy, GMC, and Nissan pickups present a variety of configurations that the Ridgeline doesn't match.

I bought a 22' RTL this June and have zero regrets. I came from a 13' WRX and about to be a parent. The Ridgeline is more than enough than what I'll even use it for. The cabin is roomy and comfortable enough for a family trip. The bed is nice to have for those trips to Lowe's. The towing is plenty enough for a pontoon boat down the road.

I have a 22 Ridgeline black edition. Came from a trd tundra pro. I absolutely love this truck and I’ve been a blind Toyota fanboy for years. I’m waiting for the anticipated Ridgeline type R model and I’ll trade my black edition in for that. I have no complaints with this truck and wish I found them sooner. I only use it for dirtbikes, 3 in the bed or trailer carrying 5 bikes. I at 6000k in Colorado and it’s very impressive in snow. Don’t have the clearance I had in the tundra but otherwise it’s stable, responsible and aggressive in snow. The Vtech is fun to drive and quick compared to the dated Tacoma engines. I actually had a 22 tundra in order but after test driving one alone the long list of issues I’m glad I cancelled and ended up in a Ridgeline!!

I'm thinking of purchasing one of these in the near future. Years ago I had a Toyota Pickup 4x4 (before they were Tacomas) and we currently have an early 2000s GMC Yukon Denali.
I LIKE full sized trucks but most people don't really need a full sized truck. Especially those who live in more urban or suburban enviroments.
The facts are that most moden SUVs with 4 wheel or AWD never go "off road". And most people don't really need a full sized bed or a lot of towing capacity. For those that do, a full size truck is a necessity. But MOST people don't need that.
These NARTS (Not A Real Truck, as "real truck owners like to call them) fill the gap for a LARGE number of people who will never do any serious off roading and only need a truck like vehicle for Home Depot / Lowe runs and to throw stuff occassionally into the bed.
The Ford Maverick sold like hot cakes. The Ridgeline seems to be fairly popular. Toyota is supposed to be coming out with their Stout to compete with the Maverick. It's rumored other manufactors are also coming out with unibody trucks in the near future (Subaru Brat being reincarnated, etc).
I think you made a smart move. I also think we will be seeing more and more of these type of vehicles in the near future. Mid-sized trucks have grown larger and larger over the years and become more and more expensive. I think "NARTs" will be very successful sellers and we'll all be seeing more of them on the road.

They say sorry, we don't have the parts to fix it and might take 9 months to a year before the parts are available. A week later I see on the news, Honda has announced another recall for bad engines on their V6's. 😡😡😡👎

Resale? Your estimation seems a little off, even first gen. with high mileage gets $7500-15,000.
If buying a used Ridgeline, I feel like 2018-2019 is the way to go; these had the Honda 6-speed transmissions. 2020 up, ZF 9-speeds which were more problematic, higher maintenance.
However, the 2019 and earlier models do not have a locking tailgate; one can be installed pretty easily. And, quite frankly, the dealerships should've installed it for free, as that was a dumb thing to leave off.
Accessories. You'll never find a bed-cover for this thing that won't leak; I think a lot of this had to do with those gaps toward the cab, more than the bed cover itself. The OEM bed cover is okay, but also no lock.
Otherwise it's a good pickup; the AWD is really nice on sharp, rutty trails; the rack-and-pinion on a 4WD with a long wheel base won't last long on these types of roads.
It's the ultimate tailgater, with the bed-audio... which is pretty good... and the trunk, which can also serve as an ice-chest; it has a drain-plug. The bed AC outlet is nice for blowing up water rafts and stuff, also good for setting-up camp in the dark.
The bed is nigh completely flat and rectangular, easy to pack and haul stuff in, whether it's cargo or sheetrock.
    Can't complain really.

I too like the Tacoma, more from a styling stand point. Honda makes good cars though and every review out there that compares a Ridgeline to a Tacoma mentions how much comfortable and functional the Ridgeline is vs the Tacoma. Unless you are doing major off-roading, the Ridgeline is the truck most people "should" buy. But it seems most people buy trucks for looks and nothing else.

I'm thinking of purchasing one of these in the near future. What exactly is "junk" about it? From what I've seen the engine is a good, reliable engine. Honda is know for making reliable, long lasting vehicles.
Most people don't tow anything with their large SUVs and most 4x4 vehicles hardly ever go off road.
If you need something to move people around and throw stuff into the bed occassionally from Home Depot or Lowes then this type of vehicle is perfect for most people IMHO.

    • @glenhalstead2301

Smart people wll purchased a slighly used one for FAR less than used full sized truck. Most people who purhased full sized SUVs and trucks don't really need most of the capability they paying for. Most 4x4s never actually go off roading. Full sized trucks and SUVs are what's "in" for past several years. So you are paying a premium for them.
If you really need a full sized truck, get one. But for most people full sized SUVs and crew cab full sized trucks have become mostly people movers and status symbols.
Vehicles like the Maverick, Ridgeline, Santa Cruz, the soon to be Toyota Stout and others to come really do what most people actually use truck or truck like vehicle for. Occassional HD, Lowes runs and to occassionally throw largers items into the bed. You'll be seeing more and more of these smaller sized unibody trucks in the near future.
