20 years ago we had a beagle that we took one day in the car to visit a friend who lived about 4 miles away. the next day he escaped and we get a call from that friend that he had shown up at their front door step to play... he found the way after only driving there once.
@@bihakuma3877 if they want to. Lol. They are really mischievous. It's best to install a tracker in them because although they'll never want to stay away from you for a long time, they can easily be stolen on their way home.
@darkmookie I have got 2 beagles, mom and daughter. If they get a chance to runaway from the house one goes down and the other goes up, just imagine how I get them back😆. Our apartment has 10 floors. It's a tough job to bring them back home.
I recently just put down my beagle of 13 years. I miss his cuddles and hugs, I miss him so much watching this brought so much smiles cause he was all those traits.
I'm so sorry to hear that. My Beagle is almost 7 and it's like time flies. Feels like he came home to me only yesterday but now he's not able to play as much as he did when he was younger.
@Christina Janet it'll be very hard at first. But if you have patient neighbours then your dog will understand within a week that you'll leave and come back for them. They'll calm down after a while. But you have to make sure they get enough water, food and access to the toilet while you're gone. You might need someone who comes in once a day while you're gone, to tend to their needs. It won't be easy. They are the closest to human babies. Extremely intelligent and emotional. And especially when they are young they will really cling onto you. It's like having a familiar, not a pet. They are almost like cats but just that they don't do well on their own.
@@lesliehuegerich2314 my Molly was from a long line of top dogs and you could not pull her from a scent without literally picking her up (assuming you could catch her).
I used to put my two Beagles to the test. I would take them out in the Aussie bush and walk along an isolated track. When they got distracted by a scent, I would walk on ahead a few hundred yards and then leave the track and hide off in the bush. A few minutes later they would come racing along the track, noses down. They would stop just past the point I had turned off the track, backtrack, and then they would sniff me out in seconds. Every time. It was fascinating to observe them at work. They are gone now. My heart still breaks for them. What beautiful, loving creatures they were.
There is nothing more lovable, the smartest, more fun, more challenging, more loyal than a beagle. They actually learn to understand and human communication. I will never have another breed. 🐶❤️
Agree! Our Sadie Lou knows sooooo many words that we have to spell things to keep her from getting to excited to fast bc she's so smart! I also believe beagles communicate their needs better than any other breed as well as pick up on our emotions like Natural born therapy dogs. Sadie's the love of our lives!
@@kivilicay never had those breeds cant say. my beagle goes everywhere but is also ruled by the superior nose. 900 scent recepctors as opposed to 200 in humans.
A week or two after getting a beagle she thought we forgot to feed her...she helped herself to the homemade chicken gravy sitting on top of the stove and even licked the frying pan CLEAN! Most priceless look on the pups face covered in gravy. Sadly she hated me after for the bath😆
We had a Beagle for 13 years. I found, early on, that her separation anxiety was food related. When we were gone, she was afraid she would never eat again -- literally. I suspected that was the problem, so I bought one of those timed food carousels and filled it so that she would receive a portion of her food every 4 hours during the course of the day, while we were gone. Once she learned that bowl would feed her, all anxiety disappeared. I would come home and find her crashed out asleep. She would wake up, when she heard me, then would run to the bowl first to make sure she did not miss a feeding then come and greet me. So, our Beagle did not suffer separation anxiety, and it became a good indicator of her health. If she did not run to that bowl, when it spun around (it made a noise doing that) to gobble the food, I knew she was feeling bad so we would bring her to the vet. Our Beagle was not difficult to train either. I just used snacks. They are fixated on food and you can use that to your advantage. We kept her weight on target by, as the video states, regular and consistent exercise. She died at 13 years from cancer. That was about 4 years ago, and we still miss her terribly. She was very affectionate and every time she did come to greet us, we had to kneel down so that she could raise up onto her hind legs, place a front leg to either side of our neck and press her head to ours in a hug. If you did not kneel, she would pull at you with her front paws until you complied. She had to have her hug. Sweet dog. I cannot bring myself to replace her -- not yet.
@@beaglelover338 Of course, she snored. She also barked in her sleep, and "ran" in her sleep (legs jerking and twitching). We decided she was dreaming about chasing squirrels and rabbits. Something else that was her absolute favorite thing to do was sort out treats. If we sat outside we would toss treats into the grass when she was not looking. It was amazing to see her go into action. She would be either sitting or wandering around, sniffing the ground, as Beagles do, and as soon as the wind turned in her direction her head would dart into a specific direction, and she would pick up her pace and actually sniff out the treat. Once she found one, she no longer needed the wind to help her. She would not stop until she found them all. And then she only stopped looking when it was time to go indoors and we made her come. During times with lingering bad weather and we could not go sit outside with her, I would hide treats all around the house, (on the floor, but out of sight). She would be walking across a room, her nose would pick out the smell of the treat, and the hunt was on. She always found all the treats, even if it took her all day long. She was a sweet friend. Sadly, they never live long enough.
I grew up on a farm, raised to not attach myself to animals, even our dogs and cats. I moved to the big city to work and raise a family which included a beagle I had for 14 years and 3 months. We had to put him down because of a "growth" that started around his behind and slowly spread inside to his spleen. Thru 2 surgeries 6 months apart he just wakes up out of the blue one morning shaking, tail tucked in, wincing in pain if anywhere around his belly is touched. I never imagined how attached I got to him and how emotional I got during his final moments. Thanks for the video...I could say my beagle was all that was mentioned in the video...and more
i have a beagle to he goes for a walk everyday of like 6km and a fun fact he is only 4 months old and when he comes back he starts running in the whole house
I miss my beagle. He was 17 when we had to put him to sleep. He finished a whole bag of treats on his death bed, but when we took him to the park and he didn't jump out of the car we knew we were doing the right thing. I was 10 when we got him and we got into all sorts of mischief together. If you saw me, you probably saw him too. I can still remember him dragging me down to the creek and us both getting stinging nettles all over our legs. Only time he willingly jumped in a bath. Used to have to chase him up and down the street when he got out. He was my best friend and honestly I will never have a pet like him, even if they're another Beagle. Unfortunately before he passed he taught my current cat some bad habits...ah Morgan, I miss you!
Our beagle is a rescue that went through 4 homes before he came to us. He has severe separation anxiety as you can imagine. But he is the most loveable boy ever. He falls asleep on the bed curled up but as soon as I turn off the light he snuggles up to me and steals enough blankets to be covered up. And yes, he is very vocal but getting better after 2 years of working with him.
All of this is true... yes..... but I don’t regret it. My sweet beagle is almost 8 months old, and she has brought so much happiness and joy to all of us, specially my son. She goes into “crazy” mode for a little bit but it doesn’t last long and then she wants to cuddle in the couch. Is almost imposible not to love her with those sweet eyes!!!
Beagles are so sweet. I have a 10 month lil girl. She is always chewing everything still. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars buying her chewies. Her litter mate is the same way .Hope this phase ends soon. Other than that, she is a good lil beagle.
I had a beagle, for 11 years. He certainly knew how to lift my spirits. He would clamber onto our piano, and "sing" as he walked across the keys, just like Buddy Mercury did. He would sit by the school gates, waiting for me, at home time. And by the front door, when I moved up to high school. Long walks, and cuddles were always the order of the day.
I rescued a 7 month old that I was her 4th home. She is asleep on my legs now. Love her to pieces. I have 3 other dogs. She completed the pack. I rarely leash her, except for the vets. I keep treats on me and she checks in on us. We go to walking paths where she can truly beagle. Love this breed but you have to respect their needs for sure. I have the land to keep her and also a huge fenced in area, which she can open if she truly wants in or out. Lol
I used to have a beagle mix when I was a kid. The beagle mix was named Bear and he was also part rat terrier, and he can be a bit territorial over his backyard and front yard. Bear also barks at strangers and people he knows to protect me and my siblings. Bear was a very good guard dog, but he had to be put down a few years ago due to a stomach tumor.
Beagles are the best!!! ♥️ I have been blessed with 4 beagles. I received my first beagle just before Christmas when I was 4. All girls. I can’t have one right now, due to my living situation, but I miss them all so much. I will see my girls again in Heaven. Number 5 on the countdown made me laugh. Yep, they love snacking and will eat until they almost pop. The sad thing is the running away. Precious pups. I love them so. I can’t imagine having another type of dog.
beagles are very noisy or talkative. not only barking but also making various noises - whining, grunting, howling, squeaking, and finally loud ear flapping, which is an unique beagle habit
I gave a beagle to my mom now that me and my sister left our home and my parents are alone and it was the best decision ever. Now she is forced to walk her at least twice a day which is great because my mom needed to exercise and plus that she now has a good friend following her anywhere she goes.
My Beagle lived to 15 years old. Definitely not the most affectionate dog I've ever owed, but he did enjoy some cuddles. I miss him every day. I love you boy.
My beagle is amazing off the lead. Had her off in the tennis courts when she was a few months old and like any dog just picked it up. Does help of course to have their favourite treats to hand as persuasion when she is being stubborn. She has never ran away, so don't be worried and get in early with the training .
All true! I own a beagle and I am so sorry and feel so guilty about it. I told my mother not to buy a beagle because neither of us are healthy enough to care for a beagle in the way they need to be cared for. Its been almost 3 years now and it would be so hard on Lylah (thats her name) as well as it would be on me. We do have a big backyard and she definitely gets all my love and attention. However, I am not well enough to train her and stimulate her mind. I wont get into my health but, i will say as much as this. "I would be dead if it werent for my babygirl Lylah"! I love her like no other. We have had a lot of dogs in our lives but this one is very special.
I just got my first puppy. a lemon beagle I named Wyatt and I call him my little asshole because of how mischievous he is. He was also a very quick learner when it came to potty training. Thanks for this video
I had almost the exact opposite experience of this dog!! Never ran away from me, even though we went for long walks in the mountains off lead, and she wasn't at all interested in cuddling with me!! And not food obsessed!
I have had several beagles over the years. Mine are definitely NOT mischievous and are quick to learn and train. But, … yes they will not be able to find their way back home if they get out. The nose takes over but is not going to get them back to their home when it dawns on them they are lost and where is mom. Microchips and a good Collar tracker are a good investment. I have always taken in abused neglected beagles from rescues. Never have I been disappointed. They are a wonderful breed if you take the time and love to set the tone in a calm loving home. Routine is key. Your tone of voice with a beagle is key. They are very sensitive to your mood, and can easily pick up on your tone and face. Do not make a habit of yelling and boy are they quick to learn. All dogs do well when they know the rules, it give them confidence and sets them up for success in your home. Bad things about beagles, mine do not do well when the neighborhood sets off fireworks or there is a thunderstorm. They need twice a day feedings as many do get acid and throw up stomach acid if you are late or erratic in feeding them. They are never satiated and will always be jonesing for food, hence you frequently see overweight pups. Can get into trouble with their pancreas if given a high fat diet. Need a halter an not a collar due to spine issues in a “long back” dog. In all reality, a loving parent and cuddles will be more appreciated with a beagle then the treat. Love my pack.
My now 14 year old beagle was just a puppy and I decided I would use one of those laser pointers to play with him and make him chase it around. He did so for about 15 seconds. Then he stopped, looked at the laser point, looked up at me, and decided this was not worth his time. They can be playful, but most of all they are the things you see here. Exceedingly loyal, staunch cuddlers and very vocal. We get literally yelled at when we come home after going somewhere without Bradley, our beagle family member.
We lost our little Beagle last year just before her twelfth birthday. She was in pain so we had to make the decision to let her go. Hardest thing in the world. We loved her a lot. Such a beautiful little dog.
I love my Beagles, we use them hunt cottontaill rabbits and snowshoe hares every winter. They are in heaven when hunting, its got to be their favorite thing to do. They actually like hunting more then treats which is saying a lot seeing as treats are a beagles most prized possessions.
Lovely. Some take a while to potty train. They love walks. Mine loves to sleep on my bed. She will put her paws on my chair to get me to go to bed. If you form a bond They will always greet you with squealing and licking. Very sweet. I play a game with treats and hide them around the house. She enjoys it .
Hey. How did the adoption go? Do you still have your baby beagle? My partner and I got a beagle because we have small children. Its the most gentle loving breed ive ever had the pleasure of owning. Truly remarkably smart.
My beagle matches each and every one of the items you named. I also agree in that despite all this character, they are one of the most adorable breeds. Mine is definitely a member of the family. I canoot imagine living without her, so lovely she is.
My beagle mix is easy to train because he will do anything for treats. But he is very vocal and does follow me to the bathroom. I just love my connection with my dog.
I own 2 beagles. . And they have never given me trouble...most of this list is just for fun..Beagles are great 🐕 ..loveing bundles of 💘..ill get many more in the future.. ill always have beagles in my house!
Beagles are fantastic family dogs! We have a pond in our yard (large) we had a family gathering that included nieces, nephews, kids and grandkids, and of course me. Our beagle ran up and down the bank baying and barking until everyone left the water. She could keep up with our Labs in the water too!
I hear this about Beagles being hard to train. I have had many Beagles over the years. They were always easy to train because they are people pleasers. All the rest is true. But if you have 2 Beagles. They are much happier. I love Beagles ❤ BTW once trained they never went potty in the house.
These traits are so prevalent in hounds. There are minor differences, like beagles needing exercise while bassets usually need to be forced to walk, but their way of loving is just so amazing. Hounds are, in my opinion, one of the best types of dog to have. We stan a good hound.
I have a beagle!/pug. All beagle but his eyes n neck. But all traits of a beagle. Definitely one of my favorite kind of dog. N my guy is a big softy always cuddles n love which works for since I'm single. He is the only man in my life. N for Xmas a got him a kitten. Because of his separation anxiety.. I couldn't leave the house for my Appt at all. Now he doesn't even know I'm gone. They chase each other play fight. Like brothers n sisters. It's free entertainment around here. I feel so blessed..
1. My Beagle is not clingy at all lmao 2. YES she wants to run 100% of the time 3. She’s very vocal but mostly when someone walks by. 4. She does not cuddle AT ALL. Very independent. 5. Yes she LOVES to eat I have to keep a close eye. 6. Super stubborn and will only do what she wants and when she wants. 7. She’s very hard to train, but we managed. 8. She’s doesn’t require much attention just lots of play time. 9. Eh not mischievous at all. 10. She absolutely has separation anxiety. 11. YES she will run away if she gets the chance.
My grandfather adopted a Beagle named Shiloh when I was about 12 but couldn't take care of him, so we took him for about two weeks before our local pound had room for him. We dropped him off when they said there was room and a week later my aunt and uncle adopted him. They had him until he died of old age. He got incredibly fat, but he totally was a cuddle boi. He was incredibly smart.
I still miss your beagle girl Rocky. She was so sweet and so smart. She always likes the dogtraining. And she learned verry fast. She knew, that she got a treat for everything she did do right. And the brain puzzles, she liked that also verry much. We walked every day a lot. And with the beagle club we walked a lot, with a lot of beagles together. Sometimes with, let we say, twenty beagles and sometimes with more than 70 beagles. Beautiful to see so much beagles together. We and Rocky loved it. She was soooo sweet. We will miss her for everything. But beautiful memories. She was almost 17 years ons, heen she died.
I needed this video today. We got quite a snowfall and my beagle has been housebound most of the day and it is like having a toddler in the house. But she is winding down and snuggling so all is forgiven
I’m a GSD guy for 53 of my 68 years. However, I think beagles are hands down in the top five of the cutest dog breeds. A good friend had a beagle. Remembering the sounds that dog would make holding its head up still makes me smile. Edit: That dog could dig unbelievable size holes in the yard. If I had him in the Army I wouldn’t need a carry my trenching shovel.
They are great diggers…..my last one could dig under our privacy fence and get out in less than 10 minutes! Had to resort to an electric fence for a while.
I have a 10 year old beagle and she is the clingiest dog I've ever had. Ever since she was born and learned to walk she loved being with me and we kept her out of all her siblings (she's the firstborn). Nowadays she and I are inseparable, and it breaks my heart when I have to leave the house for a while and she cries and calls out to me as she watches me leave. She's my world 💙
Lol we ONLY had beagle mixes when I was a kid, so it wasn’t until my brother and his wife adopted a little purebred beagle puppy I learned all of these things. Especially how they run away...that pupper was a freakin’ Houdini. When he was still little and I watched him while they were at work, it didn’t matter how many exits I covered/made sure were unbeatable, didn’t matter how hard I tried to keep an eye on him or play to tucker him out - he KEPT disappearing from the backyard!!! It would be me throwing him the ball again, him running for it and then just never coming back because somehow in the six seconds he was out of my sightline he’d just be GONE from our huge backyard! I didn’t figure out how he kept managing this until a neighbor finally saw the little troublemaker literally jump from one of our tree branches OVER the 6 foot high wooden fence and then go down their tree just to eat out of their dog’s bowl on the other side!!! *sigh* man I miss that little troublemaker. He was a really good snuggler/impromptu pillow.
Aw, that's so sweet. Always wanted one, but heard they burrow and the short hair would make me allergic, but they have the cutest faces with those silky long ears.
I've had 2 beagles. One is w me right now. I love them too. In my experience, I learned how to help mine w sep anxiety and she's happy alone as long as she's had her exercise, peed and pood and upon my leaving has been given a treat....I wouldn't recommend leaving any dog alone for more than 3 or 4 hrs. In my experience w barking.....we have built a trust so that I listen to her bark. I thank her for the bark alert. She then knows to stop barking as she then feels safe that I will keep her safe and take care of what she has alerted me to....knowing that I have heard her and it's now time to let me lead so she doesn't need to continue the alert. My experience is similar to yours In the other areas......additionally, in my experience, they are happiest with off leash exercise as that gets them the exercise they need .........they can be taught to come back to you as long as you stay calm. Of course, they should only be let off leash in the woods or in a fenced yard and as long as you have taught recall. All of these results take time and gentle positive training. Beagle love is great. Good luck to all!!
Pros: 1. They always look like sweet puppies no matter how old they are. 2. Those soft, floppy ears are not only a delight to pet but always funny to watch flopping when they're running. 3. They will eat anything you set before them so they will never be a picky eater. We've had 2 beagles for a total of 25 years. Here are my experiences compared to what's said here: Clingy - no. Energetic - no. Barking - 1 yes, 1 no. Cuddling - neither of ours wanted to be lap dogs. Foodies - absolutely. Stubborn - never noticed any. Needs attention - 1 wanted to be near someone, the other was more aloof. Naughty - 1 yes and 1 no. Cannot leave alone - 1 did poorly staying at the kennel, the other seemed fine. Running away - 1 yes but only if on a scent. The other didn't leave us even when hiking and off the leash. All in all if you really want a Beagle, get one. They were both lovely pets.
I had only one who I loved dearly Henry lived a good life for 15 years. Got him a little brother a Jack Russel he didn't care for LOVE that Henry. My best friend ❤️ and of course Nick too🥰
I agree with some things she got wrong, at least according to my experiences. I have had 3 beagles…..none of them were energetic or required much exercise. Only 1 of them was clingy and always wanted to be on someone’s lap. Two did end up on the naughty list occasionally, but this was usually due to me leaving them alone for too long. I had 2 that barked, but my current one has only barked a few times in the 2 years that I’ve had her……she dies, however, talk to everyone…..or it’s bitch sessions - hard to tell the difference. I found all 3 to be easy to train because they love food and will do whatever you ask to get a treat. I love them because they are always happy and friendly!
My beagle taught me new games. While working the dirt with my hands, from the corner of my eye, my beagle began stalking me like I was prey. So we played this new game that I called Zebra in which we took turns being the lion. No matter what, Lurch my beagle always won. We played until I fell asleep in the grass. I awoke with my beagle sleeping next to me, but my arm was still in his mouth unharmed. Loved Lurch.
It's insane how much this resonates with me, we used to think it was just our beagle who was bats^&it crazy but after looking at other forums and videos we realise this is the beagle. lol Mine is just over two and is showing no signs of slowing down
I agree with all you have said about beagles. Our boy is 9 years old and still youthful looking, energetic, and social. He has always been very attached to us. An amazing problem solver too. He worked out how to unscrew a jar lid when he was about 8 months old and pulled out a treat. Next day, and everyone since, he does it in under 15 seconds. I'm lucky he is reasonably attentive to me and I can walk him for short distances off the lead. I have to keep him close with verbal commands. He knows quite a few words too and will leave the room when asked, go to his bed, not take food until told, and lots of other tricks. Very fond of him, but he has been a challenge.
Our beagle’s separation anxiety was dramatically reduced by leaving the radio on while nobody was home. He literally went from eating the sofa to just sleeping while we were gone because he could listen to Ari Shapiro on NPR.
They are really different in a way. It’s like they are plotting something in their mind. My Beagle has the habit of retrieving anything of value from anywhere to her bed. It’s hilarious how she tries to hide the things under her blanket 😂!
I have one of the weirdest beagles, doesn't steal doesn't bark so easy to train yes 100% obsessed and follows me into the bathroom and they were where I go separate things anxiety through the roof. Does not pee or anything in the house will go out in the pouring rain to make sure she doesn't go in the house taught her to open the door by yourself now I made her a doggie door and she just goes through it. Loves food but will not steal no matter what, does not chew up anything when she was about 10 weeks old she did true one Bluetooth wire I yelled at her and she never did it ever again doesn't come near anything. Absolutely loves laying underneath the sheets and just loves to be around me 24/7. She does play but she's not super playful, she loves to run around but she loves to sleep also. Only barks if I command her, does not bite, the most gentle dog ever.
My beagle when he was a puppy was very vocal stubborn and had bad separation anxiety but it took time and patience and he's an overall great dog protects the house very loyal. Great hunter he's snatched up a few gophers in my backyard wouldn't trade him for any other breed.
My brother once walked my family's Beagle in winter with boots with no treading on it left and once he realized he could pull my brother indefinitely without a means to be stopped, he dragged my brother around the neighborhood for 3 hours. He knew if he let go, Dad would yell at him and the dog would have run away. He said he spent the whole time screaming and nobody helped him, just pointed and laughed. Later my brother showed me around to the stuff the dog destroyed by dragging him through it.
I watch this as my 2 beagles smother me, taking all the space up on the sofa, like a games of furry tetris. as I can finally relax after having to shut them up because there was a pin drop in the driveway and they went mental awoofing to a deafening degree, whilst I think about the massive bill I have cause we got a decent Treadmill for them (and us) when its raining cause they refuse to go out, and all I can say is its totally worth it.
Mine was a Parvo survivor too who's original owners tried to put down instead saving. Can't say much more about what happened next because it was was kind of illegal. He was killed as a puppy far as the AKC knew but instead lived out his life for another 12 years with his adopted golden retriever sister. Great great dog. I still miss him a lot.
We had a mixed breed, the mom was 1/2 beagle. Belle was talkative, energetic. and loved sitting with her people. Fortunately we had a large fenced in back yard and she would race around the yard at random times. She would also show her dislike for someone by peeing on thier feet.
Stubborn should be #1 haha. My beagle is the most damn stubborn dog I've ever met, I have to ask him everything twice before he'll do it. Oh well, he's lucky I think he's so cute
We have had our beagle for 10 years and she has never barked once. She is definitely NOT clingy and couldn't care less if you pay attention to her. She does love to sleep in the room with us and be around us though. When she sleeps she chases things and barks.
That's been my experience, as well. Not a single one of the ten beagles I've had the pleasure of being their human enjoyed cuddling or being picked up, which is difficult since they are so dang cute you just wanna snuggle their cute little faces and hug them and squeeze them. That does not mean they won't hog the covers, steal your pillow or set a time schedule for their human to follow. Unless you live alone, it's not a good idea to allow a beagle to get the idea that your bed is their bed. Give them a bed of their own and they will happily settle down at night...as long as you are directly in their line of sight 8-)
I’ve had 3 beagles and only 1sts what I would consider clingy. It think it was more that she wanted attention/petting and not that she “needed” to be with me. I had 2 that barked, but my current beagle has barked only a couple of times in the 2 years that I’ve had her. She does “talk” though, which is a great deal of fun for my neighbors that she stops to talk to every day! I live alone so she sleep with me, so I get growled out every time I want to turn over…..that simply interferes with her 16 hrs of sleep!
Even though they have this weird thing where they eat their own poop (yeah, it drives me nuts! ha ha), I can't even tell you how much happiness they bring into my life. It's just too much joy to put into words!
If you’re looking to get a beagle, I’ve had 2 beagles in my lifetime male and female. If you’re looking for loyalty they are only loyal to the ones that feed them their food or if you have food in your hand. Literally would eat themselves to death. They are extremely vocal. Amazing noses that will make them wander away to more food. BUT THEY ARE SO DARN CUTE THEIR WHOLE LIVES it’s makes you forget about all their flaws
My beagle is a known escape artist! He is extremely fast and once he even thinks he has a chance of getting out front he is GONE! Thankfully the pet hospital saved him the first time he got out because they were able to catch him before he ran into the busy intersection/road. Second time he got out two little girls across the street at an appointment complex found him and held on to him for me. I can’t run due to a back infection I had in 2006 so I am so thankful my Sergie is still here.
I have a 14 year old beagle who is still healthy. He is very clingy and loves food but he’s mostly pretty lazy and doesn’t like to cuddle (he does, however, love being pet). He was pre-trained when we got him at 2 years old. However, because of how smart he is, he uses it to be sneaky. Also, one more thing: he is such a Clingy anxious dog! You can’t ever leave him by himself. Edit: Yes, we work. Not sure where people got the idea that we don’t from?
@Christina Janet hi Christina, not sure if someone had answered before. In my experience beagles are more happy and healthy if you spend more time with them. They probably won't be bad with you gone 8hr/day, but they might become more naughty, bark more and learn bad habits. Our beagle went through separation anxiety when he was 3 months old up until he was probably 2 years old because our family of 5 all had work/school - it was very tough on him that we weren't there, he would bark for like 30min whenever someone came/left house. It took a while and we had to give him medication to help but he did eventually mellow out. Hope this helps!
I have had 2 previous beagle/beagle mixes, and one current one now. They are all really different. My first one when she was young would be naughty when you left, but after a couple years of training her, she did get better and didn't get into as much trouble as before. My second beagle didn't have separation anxiety disorder, till his best friend and our other dog (a lab) passed away. We ended up getting him another companion which is the beagle we have today. When our second beagle was getting older and near the end of his life we got an older chihuahua to help with the potential loss coming. My current beagle didn't really take to him, but tolerated him, he has had no separation anxiety. I cannot say if the chihuahua prevented that or not. (We have to leave him in a playpen because he is blind, so he doesn't even really stay with the beagle while we are gone.) But my current beagle hates bedroom doors being shut he has to know where everyone is in the house. I would say getting a buddy helps usually, but not everyone can afford that, but also keeping them in a designated area helps too when you leave. Again it really depends on the dogs personality as well.
@@AakritiAgarwal25 I mean we go to work/school on a normal schedule in our family but since our other dog died he gets really anxious when alone. But during the day by himself he just sleeps and rests.
I got my dog a female kitten for Xmas I got him at 5.i rescued him from a bad pet owner. Did I steal him??? Yes I did. After a friend of mine told me that this dog was heavily chained up. Look like he hadn't eaten n weeks all bones n couldn't even walk. But he great now n his separation anxiety, I couldn't go to appts. This little girl worked. He doesn't even know I've left. They play fight n sleep together. I love them so. Much
I’ve had my beagle since I was seven years old she’s 13 now and going strong I would actually say she’s quite lazy does enjoy walks but not long walks she’s very social but she’s quiet as well except for the baying occasionally she sleeps with me every night and she’s very gentle she was a rascal as a puppy that will put up with literally anything loves children overall she’s amazing!
All 3 of my beagles, including my first when I was a toddler, are/were lazy! They sleep all of the time and only wake up to go out and eat. She must have an unusually active beagle. That has just not been my experience.
Have a beagle, well she's a mixed beagle, have had her for a year today. She found us and decide to stay with us, even though I tried to change her mind. She's my buddy! She's spayed stays in the house and sleeps in bed( most of the time) she's housebroken completely no issue. Plus she's quite the Entertainer. Very loving very sensitive. Although I certainly did not need another dog , but so glad to have her! I suppose I have the advantage because I'm with her all the time she is not a problem. More than likely she will be my last dog, I just prayed to the dear Lord that I out live her. She's been such a blessing🐾🐶🐾
Got a beagle x corgi. He’s all of these as he takes after the beagle side in both physical and mental attributes. Amazing dog, but definitely a clingy one. He comes with me pretty much everywhere.
I have had five beagles in my life, and only one of them was a cuddle monster. Two of them liked to cuddle a little and the other two just like petted, but didn't really like to cuddle. Also none of them could be described as not leaving us alone ever. As far as leaving them alone, we never really had any problem with that so long as there was another dog around to keep them company. And that was mainly because they were bored, not anxiety driven. I know that because before we got our second dog, the first one would tear apart the bushes in the backyard even when we were home. I would say that the video describes how some beagles are. But as a whole, I think only three of the 11 comments were really consistent across all five of our pets.
Oh this makes me miss my beagle Thelma 💖 she went crazy everytime i came home. Just running around so fast i hardly could see her and yelling and barking. Her fav food was liqorice sweets, I wonder if other beagles love them too! 😅 I will absolutely get a beagle puppy later when the time is right!
Never ran away, always listens to me, never runs. Grandkids love my beagle so some of what is said it this video I did not see with my little beagle and had her for 13 years. She passed away on Dec 31st.
We bought a robotic lawn mower as company for our puppy.(not really) Well we thought they were getting along fine, until "Mowreen" declined to leave her base station in the spring. Turns out someone had used the dark winter evenings to excavate and sever the perimeter wire, in multiple locations. "Was this you Fitz?" was my astoundingly stupid question... Beagles have this way of averting their gaze.
I taught my Beagle to come to me when he was outside and I taught my fiance who became my wife how to do this. I tell him Papa has to go and he would run to his kennel and wait for me to close the door. It was simple to do and we had so much fun with him. I could put food out and he would only eat it when he was hungry. My wife tested this when we went back to her house and said Barney you need a bath and he started for the bath tub and she said oh baby I was only playing. You are a good boy. She was just so amazed at how he minded all that we did.
Beagles really are everything she pointed out. Had a little one back in the 90’s and she totally fits this description. She was very, very prone to mischief and very difficult to train; but she was so sweet that she earned the name Sugar.
I have a 14 week old and in just the 2 months we’ve had him he has learned to sit, stay, lay down, spin, kennel trained, and potty train. It wasn’t hard to train him to do those commands at all.
This gives me hope because I just rescued a four month old! His previous owners clearly didn’t do anything with him. After 72hr with my fiancé and I, he’s learned his name, learned to sit, goes into his kennel for bedtime and during walks, stops when I stop. The training will obviously keep continuing but I have hope!
"Separation anxiety" is an understatement. Not long after we got him, my mom and sister left the house for an errand. The dog ran around the house SCREAMING for a good thirty minutes until I gave him a sedative in a piece of cheese. Last night he slept under my legs.
Mr Hector , our lovely missed Beagle loved his food . One Christmas we was gathered at my mothers house and he disappeared into the dining room where my mother had placed 24 sausage rolls on the table. to cool off . Mr Hector ate the lot . He couldn’t move as his stomach was so full . We won’t go into the passing of wind .
that is so funny, my beagle, Benson ate a big bag of my Dad’s cookies. we didn’t hear him for awhile so went to look for him and he had the bag between his paws😜😜😜😜
Glad you added running away to the list. I got my girl at the shelter after she had run away numerous times from her former owner. They just didn't want her anymore. I made the decision to ALWAYS leash her and it has been great. She is now 12 years old and my best buddy.
Thats how we got our first beagle....boy were we in for beagle lessons! LOL...She dug out of the yard, We would catch her, then I would concrete the hole she dug...by the end of her life we had lots of concrete...lol...of course she was with us for 18-1/2 years! Our current, second beagle, because we are hooked, is 7 and she has never escaped...guess our first beagle paved the way for our second...oh, i meant concreted the way!! LOL....LOVE OUR BEAGLES!!!
They are bred to hunt in groups by scent. The main problem is that people go by the looks of a breed. For pure breeds you can almost perfectly guess the pros and cons by looking at the purpose the race was bred for. Bred for hunting: prone to run away. Retriever dog: hard to keep out of water and mud, eats a lot. Guard dog: uninvited guests no matter if friendly or not will in for a nasty surprise. Herding dogs: need a lot of mental work. Etc.
I raised my Beagle by my side since she came home. We were only separated at night. She slept in a different room with a radio on low volume. She is the Queen of my small ammunition factory and gets loved by everyone. She has zero bad behaviour and has been the most amazing dog that I have ever had. We just connected and training was minimal. It's like she reads my mind. Awesome breed. Potty training was hard but once she caught on it was like flipping a switch. Even at night about 8, she will be at the door waiting to go before she sacks out. Their intelligence makes up for their stubbornness!
My beagle a few year's ago escaped from me in a local park in the afternoon and returned home at 2am in the morning with a big fat belly. Assuming he had visited all the bins. Never been so happy to see him.
I can relate. I remember once the automatic gate to my garden was left open and someone (for whatever reason) left the kitchen door open and he escaped. He was gone for a good 30 minutes before he eventually returned
My beagle’s nose led him into a lot of mischief. He also Wrecked carpeting, sofa, cushions, magazines, and had a knack for peeing in his sleep. In his sleep; wouldn’t even wake him up when he peed himself. Nobody could not dislike spliff, the beagle. He was a kind soul. R.I.P. spliff.
I have half a beagle. One of my dogs is a beagle-bull I git from a shelter. He is half beagle and half pit bull. He looks like a giant beagle, only with no black, just tan and white coloring. He is a very sweet tempered, gentle, affectionate boy who wants to be friends with everybody. He has many of the traits you described except that he is very quiet, and does not make much noise except when he is outside playing with other dogs. I live on a farm high in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. My dogs get to run free when they are outdoors. I have seen my beagle-bull as far away from my house as a mile and a half, but he always comes home. I guess he knows he has it pretty good here. When he is in with me his usual spot is right beside me, or on top of me in my recliner. He thinks he is a 40 pound lap dog! I also make my dogs their own food, and often feed them some of whatever I have cooked for myself. They love it, and seem to thrive on it. One of my friends says, "Your dogs eat better than half the people in this county."
That's not good behaviour at all. Beagles or any dog for that matter don't pee on their owners unless they want to disrespect them. You might want to train your Beagle a little about this.
I can answer to number 4. Every morning when i came home from work after walks and breakfast he would jump into my lap when I sat down with my whisky and placed his head on my left shoulder, and would not move until I gave him a big hug.
20 years ago we had a beagle that we took one day in the car to visit a friend who lived about 4 miles away. the next day he escaped and we get a call from that friend that he had shown up at their front door step to play... he found the way after only driving there once.
This is amazing. Thinking of getting one. Can they find their way home though?
@@bihakuma3877 if they want to. Lol. They are really mischievous. It's best to install a tracker in them because although they'll never want to stay away from you for a long time, they can easily be stolen on their way home.
@@cosmicmuse2900 thank you!
OH LORD...
Sorry for your loss mate I know exactly what it's like losing a dog
They are almost like cats but just that they don't do well on their own.
i also had to put down my dog two weeks ago :( i miss my beagle baby
@@cosmicmuse2900 so sad bro 😔
The trick to keeping a beagle from running off is keep treats in your pockets at all times, their love for food is their achilles tendon.
Not if you have one from field trials line. They go deaf and will find a way out of the house no matter what
My beagle can be trailing a lizard and a ribeye steak wouldn't turn him around.
That works for me! As long as you have treats I won't run.
My beagle was sooo fussy with food, you could not remove her from a scent trail.

Aww ☺️ heartwarming story
😊 We did the same with ours and she started to pay a lot more attention to where we were. 👍
Best training method to keep all dogs close
I did this as well. They are so pleased when they find you. All wags and happy.
They say they are not much loyal and more individual due to being a scent hound and compared to Huskies, Golden retrievers... Is this true?

A week or two after getting a beagle she thought we forgot to feed her...she helped herself to the homemade chicken gravy sitting on top of the stove and even licked the frying pan CLEAN! Most priceless look on the pups face covered in gravy. Sadly she hated me after for the bath😆

Did she get the runs afterward?
Did yours Snore
Mine has separation anxiety too, I’m gonna try this!

Good memories
They are wonderful characters!
I've had 4 beagles over my life. My advice is to have 2, not just one. That way when you're not home, they can keep each other company.
Omg ikr-My dog when he wants food he legit like snorts and grunts and its sounds like pig-

That's amazing. Every beagle is different. Beagles with low prey drive or low instinct of tracking scent are easier to train than other beagles.
@@BeagleCare very good point . Mine coudnt hurt anything if she tried . No chase what so ever. :)

Yes, too smart for their own good at times but, great fun. Fantastic with children as well.
Using those lazers can give dogs mental problems, they are only ok for cats. I read this.
One point you left out is that they shed A LOT of hair every day! But it’s definitely worth putting up with, they’re just too adorable!
One of my Beagles sheds a lot and the other sheds very little.

These traits are so prevalent in hounds. There are minor differences, like beagles needing exercise while bassets usually need to be forced to walk, but their way of loving is just so amazing. Hounds are, in my opinion, one of the best types of dog to have. We stan a good hound.

I know very much about how much affectionate beagles are. My beagle adores when I give him caresses in his head ❤️
What’s GSD? BLT, LGBT, OMG, so many to keep up with!

They are great diggers…..my last one could dig under our privacy fence and get out in less than 10 minutes! Had to resort to an electric fence for a while.
My beagle is obsessed with cuddling. Especially behind my legs if I’m laying on the couch, always with lots of blankets!!!
@@jimjunio7512 Such a sweet story. 🥰
You people commenting that your beagle didn’t need much exercise are basically terrible people.
It's insane how much this resonates with me, we used to think it was just our beagle who was bats^&it crazy but after looking at other forums and videos we realise this is the beagle. lol
Mine is just over two and is showing no signs of slowing down
I agree with all you have said about beagles.
My beagle is 8 years old and very clingy he follows my everywhere. He’s very needy and loves to talk. He’s my best friend. 🐶❤️❤️
Yeah sounds like my beagle ️❤️
We have a golden retriever who didn’t start begging until we got a beagle. They are the most food crazed animals on the planet.
you can say that again!! LOL
I have a pittie mix and a beagle and my pittie is the most obnoxious around food.
You want your beagle to come to you...just walk into the kitchen!! LOL
Y’all never met a Staffordshire bull terriers haha
My Shih Tzus are the same. They follow me to the kitchen Every. Single. Time. 🙄🙄😂
Lol I used to stand on skateboard and my beagle would pull me forever if I let her
I watch this as my 2 beagles smother me, taking all the space up on the sofa, like a games of furry tetris. as I can finally relax after having to shut them up because there was a pin drop in the driveway and they went mental awoofing to a deafening degree, whilst I think about the massive bill I have cause we got a decent Treadmill for them (and us) when its raining cause they refuse to go out, and all I can say is its totally worth it.
Get a 3rd one and see how they throw you out of your bed. But like you said, it is worth it. They will come down and make sure you r ok
My beagle is Parvo survivor and she is 3months old already 😍🐶
Woohoo, glad she's okay ❤️
Oh wow. Loving the fact that beagles are so awesome. Keep ur beagle with much love as they are best
My in-laws chiweenie did that to my husband. She was actually claiming him as hers. lol.
Nah...I don't think that's cute. Peeing at one's feet.
Stubborn should be #1 haha. My beagle is the most damn stubborn dog I've ever met, I have to ask him everything twice before he'll do it. Oh well, he's lucky I think he's so cute
Ask?
....ask?
We have had our beagle for 10 years and she has never barked once. She is definitely NOT clingy and couldn't care less if you pay attention to her. She does love to sleep in the room with us and be around us though. When she sleeps she chases things and barks.
Beagles are so cute when they dream
That's been my experience, as well. Not a single one of the ten beagles I've had the pleasure of being their human enjoyed cuddling or being picked up, which is difficult since they are so dang cute you just wanna snuggle their cute little faces and hug them and squeeze them. That does not mean they won't hog the covers, steal your pillow or set a time schedule for their human to follow. Unless you live alone, it's not a good idea to allow a beagle to get the idea that your bed is their bed. Give them a bed of their own and they will happily settle down at night...as long as you are directly in their line of sight 8-)
Every dog has their own personality :)
I live alone so she sleep with me, so I get growled out every time I want to turn over…..that simply interferes with her 16 hrs of sleep!
my 14 year old beagle to a TEE!!!
Even though they have this weird thing where they eat their own poop (yeah, it drives me nuts! ha ha), I can't even tell you how much happiness they bring into my life. It's just too much joy to put into words!
Hahaha yeah, my groot used to do it too when he was a pup. But it goes away with time.
They stay cute even as they get old?
I have a half beagle half greyhound and whoooo he is a handfull of joy and frustration lol
Woow sounds like an awesome combination
Best pal ever! They had me well trained!
@Christina Janet have always wondered this as well! I really want a beagle but I can't just give up work
@@AakritiAgarwal25 I mean we go to work/school on a normal schedule in our family but since our other dog died he gets really anxious when alone.
Hi, how is Sadie doing? I hope well. Make sure about Lepto vaccination!
Beagle puppy tips? My beagle puppy Sadie she’s 11 weeks old as of now (2 months) and she always starts biting when you pet her.
Got a beagle x corgi. He’s all of these as he takes after the beagle side in both physical and mental attributes. Amazing dog, but definitely a clingy one. He comes with me pretty much everywhere.
This channel helps me taking care of a beagle very much. Thank you!!
Truer words never spoken!
So very rightly said, they are lovable and at the same time they are fussy too. Playful mood day in and day out.
We have our fur baby Beagle and have had several. Such loving, smart, fun dogs.
Yep, if a dog is attractes to treats it will be easy train
I found all 3 of my beagles easy to train because they are really food motivated. You just have to train with treats and they will do anything!
Just don’t let them off leash.
"Separation anxiety" is an understatement.
Not long after we got him, my mom and sister left the house for an errand. The dog ran around the house SCREAMING for a good thirty minutes until I gave him a sedative in a piece of cheese. Last night he slept under my legs.
What sedative?
You forgot to mention STINKY! 😂 They definitely have that hound scent and need baths every month!

They certainly do have a passion for food , his Nick name was Hover .
I have a 9 month old named Tammy, she is such a blessing in my life. She is so smart, stubborn and loves unconditionally, so worth it.
My beagle is 9 months and he drives me crazy but I love him 😍 you just need to be really patient
and lots of walks and attention/affection!! That's key with beagles...25 year beagle owner....
Etc.
yup, total escape artists
@Gretchen K. I'll have to remember that one 😄
Fellow beagle owner here, very informative and accurate video. Beagles are a different type of dog, but I wouldn't have any other breed.
So true😍
I just got a beagle and she's 2 months old, she is so smart!! Already taught her to sit, stay, lay down, and give paw.
I have a beagle mix that just turned 3 months and he learned all of this stuff so fast like within days!
@SHETA Malek no shes not but I had her using puppy pads indoors and she got it down for the most part.
Howwwww????? Mine is 2 months old and only knows sit command🙃🙃 but need to teach all other commands
My girls learned really quick. They do all the basics, high 5,sit on their hunches they wag their tails on command, show off their pretty teeth..lol
Our beagle just peed on me while I was watching this.
That's not good behaviour at all. Beagles or any dog for that matter don't pee on their owners unless they want to disrespect them. You might want to train your Beagle a little about this.

@@cosmicmuse2900 That's not true at all. There are a variety of reasons for why this could happen. Stop spreading misinformation.

I can answer to number 4. Every morning when i came home from work after walks and breakfast he would jump into my lap when I sat down with my whisky and placed his head on my left shoulder, and would not move until I gave him a big hug.
starting a morning with a walk and a whiskey? living the life, king :)
