    Make sure to set the speed controller to highest speed setting. All brushless controllers have 3 speeds & the preset is the mid speed. Look for the plug labelled "3 speed" it should have 3 wires. Usually black in middle with a brown & blue/purple. The blue needs connecting to the black to enable highest speed. But the colours may be different on your controller so just test to by connecting either colour to the blacl in turn. Should gain you another 3 or 4 mph top end

    Your video is outstanding! You are not afraid to let people see your entire experience and to show your fearlessness. In engineering, it is common to not know everything when you start out. The key is to ASSUME SOMETHING. Maybe it doesn't work, maybe it does. Either way, you learn what to do next. Thank you.

    As always, love the video. I am also going your advice from the other day regarding dual motors. I am wondering if you have a suggestion as to where to get a 500w replacement controller. Lectric is sending a new one because my XP quit. However, I would like to have a workable backup as well. I appreciate any suggestions or advice,. Thanks.

    Congrats on getting the joint rolling again, I knew third time was the charm 😉
    Torque is your best friend going up those hills, and that was the main reason I upgraded.
    I think that battery has a discharge rate of 20 amps, so your controller still has more to give.
    Lookin' forward to the drag racing!

    Heyy I need some help with my current lectric xp 1.0. So i just recently made a big upgrade to the bike on swapping out the old stock motor to the new 48v 1000w hub motor along with new 52v 40A controller with new ktlcd 8 color display. Do you any ideas which display settings should i fix for my bike to read properly the speed. Because when i start throttling, it says 50mph while it isn’t true either because in my phone it reads solid 30 mph. Idk why it doesn’t read properly the speed on my new display. I did set the tire size to 20in

    Looking at the appearance of the bike, I had a few aesthetic ideas. Rather than having the batter on top of the tube would it look better putting it on the underside? I know all the wires were there but since you removed the internal battery perhaps there's now room to route all those wires inside the tube for an even cleaner look + allowing easy mounting of the battery below.

    Thanks for the video. I got a Lectric without the battery for cheap off of FB Marketplace. I simply put a 52v battery on it and it worked fine and everything worked as it should after I tuned up the brakes. I’ve shunt modded other controllers in the past. Have u ever tried shunt modding the stock controller? Shunt modding will give it more amps. I’m tempted to do mine, but I don’t have a spare/backup oem controller. Higher voltage and amperage should increase the top speed and torque.

    That's pretty impressive. I like the mods up to this point. I wonder if you are right on that motor being governed at 28 mph? Be pretty neat if you could find a another hub that does not have that limitation and see what is possible? I bet you will find that solution. By the way I ended up getting that DJI pocket 2 camera for gimbal cinematic shots and sold the GoPro 8 I had. With that said, I will probably start using the DJI Action camera seeing it's price came down to $200 and will probably drop more here in the next couple months. So do you plan on looking to find a hub motor to break that 28 mph barrier? --chris

      Yes 35amp max on the controller. I think if you continuously pushing 1500w for a long period of time it will kill the motor. But if you ride smart it should be fine. Mine is a little bit faster with a throttle than it is with pedal-assist 5, but it feels like it has a little more torque with pedal assist. 18 amp controller. But the faster you go the less power wants to give you, always feels like the motor has more, but he controller just won't give it. So when you're going up a hill it will dump all the power it has, but if you're already going pretty fast, it throttles the power back. Which I guess is good for range. I upgraded to a 20 amp power triangle pack. On nothing but pedal-assist 3 and 4 it gets 50 miles before it starts to slow down. It completely shut down for me between 55 and 58 miles. But the 2 wheel electric bug has overwhelmed me and I need more electric powah, so I recently ordered a Black Tea Bonfire (scrambler style street legal emoped- great new pics on their Trello page). As with the Zooz, I am supporting a BRANDNEW company on their first production run, and I have to wait a few months to get it, but I truly enjoy having opportunity to support the first creations of my favorite designs.
      If I was a confident bike builder like you, maybe I would choose the CirKit frame and build to specs of either being maxed power for ebike legality, or just being a 40-50mph dominator (advantage of custom built means only the builder knows the true specs). I would also choose regen braking for efficiency and to save brake pad wear.
      But I am anxious to see what's next for you!

      I'm not saying it has to be you but I am interested in how they determine the ratings for these motors since clearly the 500w go over that number for peak performance. We've seen computer chips be overclocked and often it just has to do with cooling and in this case I'd wonder whether it was more the controller than the hub motor. Since you've got a friend with a 750w motor and you seemed to indicate the performance between them wasn't too big it might be worth a video or two looking into this..

    • @DavidBrandNew
      @DavidBrandNew  3 роки тому +1

      @@trumptman i think they stress test them to see how much they can handle for certain periods of time. All motors have a nominal wattage and a peak. This little sucker clearly packs a punch. I will keep you guys updated if this upgrade ends up ruining my motor 👍🏽

    • @rgsparber1
      @rgsparber1 3 роки тому +5

      I suspect that the limiting factor on these motors is primarily heat. Under load, it will draw as much current as it needs. The stock controller will supply up to 20 amps and then limit. Your controller, IIRC, can supply almost twice that. You have proved that, at least for short bursts, the motor can take it. If you ran for a "long" time, the temperature would rise and the insulation on the motor windings would melt. Then wires would short which would increase the current while decreasing the horsepower. The secondary limitation might be the stress on the internal gears. As the load increases, the pressure on the gear's surfaces increases. This pushes the lubrication out of the way resulting in more wear. You are the pioneer here and will find answers to all of these questions.
      I also suspect that the added current cannot increase your level ground top speed since that is a function of voltage as long as the motor can draw all of the current it needs. Now, if you wanted to add a boost power converter, you could keep the voltage constant at the maximum. This converter would go in series with the battery while being powered by the battery. It wouldn't have to put out more than about 10 volts but would have to pass all of the current. It would need to output up to 10V x 20 amps = 200 watts for the stock controller or 400 watts for your new controller. The converter would be set up to regulate the total output voltage and adjust its small output voltage to get there.

    • @DavidBrandNew
      @DavidBrandNew  3 роки тому

      Yes It is the white wire that is connected to the motor. I’m not sure how to bypass it. I tried unplugging it but then it won’t calculate your speed. Maybe it’s possible to go faster but you would have to verify with a phone app

    Even though your controller is feeding your 500w motor 1500 watts I think a 500w motor's peak wattage is like 800 watts so that is what it is functioning at so like 700 watts is going to waste. if you spend 300 bucks on a 1500w motor you should be able to get to 35-37 mph.
