As a Canadian who is so fed up with winter, I would never have considered travelling to a cold place in winter!! It is so refreshing to see winter through your eyes and your enthusiasm and happiness in experiencing it for the first time brought a smile to my face. Maybe it’s not so bad after all! Thanks for all the 2023 adventures! Happy 2024!🎉
That is because we northern people get plenty of winter. But for anyone living closer to the equator I can image how exotic this all is. Yes I could do with a short winter season and longer summer, but in the end I have a hard time with prolonged heat and would rather stay where I am. There is however a good reason why the Canary Islands are filled with Scandinavians in Jan and Feb.
I was in Finland a few weeks after you and absolutely loved it. My friends and I all described it as magical. It's great to see it again through your eyes. I can't way to see more from your time there.
You gotta go in the summer. Having daylight all the time feels even crazier than having so little of it. I've experienced that in the far south of Argentina. Bright daylight at 4 am. I was shocked. thought I overslept. Then I was even more shocked and in disbelief when I looked at the clock.
We spent a day in Helsinki while on a Baltic cruise, the site that amazed us the most was the Helsinki Central Library Oodi, that opened on Dec 31, 2016. I've never seen a public library that had so many option/services for locals to use.
We wanted to go check out the library! It does look very impressive. We just ran out of time. We're big library fans so we always keep an eye out for them!
It is nice to see you enjoy my home town and you clearly have done your homework before getting here, picking up pretty much the best winter tourist things to do in helsinki and stuff to eat! Also great cinematography, there was some lovely shots around!
I appreciate how you take the effort to speak softly in indoor spaces. Always makes me uncomfortable when travel youtubers treat the other patrons like extras in their scene. Subscribed. PS. I walked past you within like 5 meters on that new year's lol
This looks so beautiful. I'm in Germany and this winter has been nothing but a total disappointment. January started off pretty cool, with snow even in the valleys, but since then it has been constantly raining with no snow at all. Rainy and mild winters are depressing indeed, snowy winters are just so magical.
The cold's not too bad if you have a warm inviting places to visit that delight the senses. Your practice of really savoring the places you experience shows this is true of Helsinki in the winter.
Y'all got me teary-eyed at the end with your 2023 recap, which reminded me again how traveling (no matter where you go!) really opens up your world in so many ways. Thanks again for sharing all your travels, which truly inspire me to keep exploring. Love that cooking over an open outside fire experience - would love to see more of that in the States! And I'm gonna find a recipe to try that Lohikeitto soup - that looked AMAZING!!! When you edit your videos, especially of the foods you eat, does it bring you right back to those moments? What awesome experiences to be rekindled through this channel!!
That means a lot to us! Thank you! We're lucky and thankful we can share our adventures! I'm still dreaming of that soup! It is always a lot of fun to look back on our clips!
What’s so neat about this trip is you’re going to places I’ve never really considered, especially in the winter! Prior to your video I knew nothing about Helsinki- thank you so much for showing us all neat parts of the world! Can’t wait to keep watching your videos!! And soooo excited to watch you guys resume van life again this year- I just love the combo of watching your trips here in the US and your awesome trips abroad!!
We're so glad you enjoy it! You're the exact type of person we're hoping to appeal to! 😂 we love our van and the US, but we also love other parts of the world just as much! Thank you and thanks for watching!
@@AdventuresofAplusK that’s fantastic!! I’m in the Midwest so occasionally we’ll have below 0deg F temps and man that is brutal! So awesome how you guys soak in each experience, especially when it’s so different than how you grew up!!
The little summary of 2023 reminded me of so many of your videos, and the hours I have spent watching and enjoying them. Glad to see you in Finland, we would love to go there as we have a good friend who emigrated from Finland many years ago so he could work with us. Looks like a fun place. Thanks for sharing all these fun times.
This is a fantastic interpretation of our beautiful Finnish winters. Thank you for your visit, and we welcome you back in summer to see how equally beautiful and green our country can also be!
So cool. Loved Helsinki video. You did a great job of capturing it. Need to hear a story/explanation of Finnish sisu in an upcoming episode. You’re already experiencing it. A very Finnish mindset. Thanks for sharing your trip.
Hey, hey A+K! Drinking my morning coffee and it was perfect timing for your video to drop to enjoy at the same time! I hope you are having a great week. Thank you for all you do!
I visited a town in Sweden near the Arctic circle in winter about 25-30 years ago. What i found is that the snow helps when less daylight. The reflection of lights in town made it seem not quite so dark. For me it was harder to adjust visiting the same place in summer when the sun doesn't set.
Wow! Adam gets an A+ for pronouncing the names of the food and the chapels/churches!! That salmon cream soup looked delicious! I was wondering, did your feet and toes keep warm with all that walking you did with the low temperatures and snow and ice? Any special socks or boots? I had read comments on your previous video that you mainly used mittens for your hands; what about your feet? Is this information shared somewhere else? I just follow you on your UA-cam videos. Thanks!
Great video. Discovered you two not too long ago but have been watching and catching up. One thing that always amazes me it the cold (and hot) weather people around the world live in and go on like normal. I am 80 years old and have lived my whole life in California, USA. That doesn't mean I haven't been in extremes and know what they are like. I am a Skier and have been all over the US and also the Alps. Have been in minus 30 degrees actual temperature and also minus 60 wind chill. Have also been in 125 degrees in Death Valley. That being said, it is so easy on a daily basis to live in Southern California Temperatures and just go out and do what you want without thinking about it. So weird to think how many people live in severe weather each and every year. Enjoy watching your travels and how you do it. I also love your upbeat presentation. Very nice.
It is pretty wild that people live a comfortable life in such an extreme environment! It would definitely take an attitude adjustment! Thank you and thanks for watching!
I appreciate this concideration. Well, I happend to live in Finland and happen to run as a hobby, but at periods the climate just tries it's best to prevent from going outside with freezing rain or slippery streets week after week. Just have to be crafty and do it anyway.
I was in Finland 🇫🇮 a few weeks after you and absolutely loved it. My friends and I all described it as Magical. It's great to see it again through your eyes. I can't way to see more from your time there. 😍🇵🇭
Aloha from Honolulu A & K. I'm so happy that I found your videos on Helsinki and Estonia! You guys are the best travel bloggers and I learn so very much from watching your videos before we travel to that destination! My boyfriend and I are going on a Celebrity Scandinavian Cruise in June 2024 and visiting Copenhagen, Helsinki, Tallin, and Sweden. I'm loving your winter adventures of these northern European countries and will certainly look for your other videos on these countries! Mahalo for all that you do!
I recently found your travel videos and absolutely love them!! I’m so excited for your Finland videos, as I’ve wanted to visit there my whole life (I’m almost half Finnish) and plan to finally get there in 2026 or 2027. I’ll add your recommendations to my list.
I really wish you guys will visit Finland in the summer as well, because it's like a totally different reality. The harsh cold you had versus the lush of green and warmth you wouldn't first believe...? The contrast is AMAZING!
I’ve never considered it either but damn, it looked so pretty out there in this video! Though currently the weather is so horrid I wouldn’t go, I’d just fall down all the time in the mess of ice, water and slush. But maybe next winter 😅
i did once and it was so horrendously cold, it's terrible with the wind you get from the sea xD looks cool for sure but comfort-wise it's a -1/10 experience
Fantastic videos! We were in Rovaniemi for 5 days last November and we intend to go back next year. Starting in Helsinki and working out way north. Possibly hiring a car for the 4 of us inc our 8 year old daughter and 11 year old son. Trying our best to show them as much of the world as possible. Keep making great videos!
Blueberry pie!!!! I want some!!!! Layers of yumminess in that cinnamon bun! Katherine is going to Flavor Town! Happy 2024 to you two from Karen and Jim!🎉🎆🎇
Fun video and the year end montage was spectacular! Glad we all got to share the journey with you and here’s to more great adventures in 2024. Only sad that Kona missed all the fun in the snow. Our dog Luna loves snow more than anything.
16:04 You got lucky with the salmiakki that is one of the most mildest ones you can find, I like them. I like ultra salty salmiakki too, but nowadays worry about my teeth more than I did as a kid.

Oh my! My daily walk in the mornings, my eyes are watering and my makeup is running! That is daily in northern Alberta! Welcome to our world. You didn't need to go halfway across the world to experience winter, just the next country north of you!
haha that is true. We spent a lot of time in Canada the past couple years and wanted to see some of Europe! We'd love to see Canada in the winter soon though!
Around here those little fish would have been called bait. Love the way you tied the 2023 montage into New Year's Eve. What a great year you had. Looking forward to seeing what 2024 holds in store.
Another banger video 🎉❤ .... Don't watch hungry ! ! (For more than one reason). OMG that cinnamon roll. 🤤...ohhh 🤢 The fried fish... Katherine, I'm proud of you. 🥰 You're doing the work FOR US. Taking one fishy, etc... for the team... So cute watching you guys enjoying yourselves. ❤ You guys crack me up. My cheeks hurt from smiling... 😊😊
Okay ya all, I’m running out of superlatives to describe how much I admire your video and editing skills 😊. Thanks for taking me to Finland and I’m looking forward to the rest of your journey.
I live in Northern Finland where the days in the winter are way shorter than Helsinki but the lack of daylight has never really stopped me from doing anything outside
What a fun video from the very yummy looking blueberry cake and cinnamon rolls 😋 to the beautiful and diverse churches to the yummy looking soup and not so yummy looking fish 🤢😂 to the night ending with fireworks everywhere…great job showing us Helsinki! ❤
The first impressions part made me chuckle, I'm a Finn living in Helsinki, and I've been avoiding going out all winter because of the snow and ice hahah! It is true though, many (most?) people here like to go out even in winter. Nice video, I'm glad you had a good time!
haha we don't get any snow where we come from so we really wanted to experience it and were impressed by everyone out and about! Thanks and thanks for watching!
Congratulations to you guys for heading to Helsinki, Finland this week this Winter Season in February of 2024❤❤❤I really LOVE your amazing video today’s from Europe 2024❤❤❤
On "the days are very short here" it would be nice to remember also that in the summer, it's the complete opposite. It's always light and the sun doesn't go below the horizon (in the north). ☺
We live with snow and ice on the ground for 4-5 months of winter here in the central mountains of Idaho. Can you say “Kahtoola”? Ice spike for the bottom of your shoes or boots! Or for a Swedish solution - Icebugs!
Oh. And other thing. The low temperatures are different here in Finland. At Helsinki if the ocean is open i mena not frozen it is very humid low temperatures. And -10°C feels a lot colder. But when you are inlands where lakes gets all frozen the low temperatures are dry, so it does not feel so cold.
You really should visit finland in the summer! Finnish summer nights are the best time with the midnight sun (especially the summer festivals). I would recommend visiting the old city of Turku!! Just about an hour train ride away from Helsinki.❤
Another awesome video! You guys have a new regular viewer here. You guys should consider going and exploring places like Japan and South Korea and southeast asia and even Australia! I would definitely be watching it all!
Hi! Thanks for watching! Believe us, those places have long been on the list! If those darn plane tickets weren’t so expensive. Plus we don’t like to leave our dog for long
It just perfect to live in Finland. The winter can get cold. Here where I live we got -35°C this winter, then at summer time it can get +30°C. So it is quite extreme temperature change. Lucky it does not happen in over night, but takes it time. But still every year after the winter , first few weeks when it is +5 I get sick because I lose my clothes thinking it is warm but it is not. Then at fall +5 to -2 is too cold.
Always funny watching people from "non-liquorice" countries try it out, especially Salmiakki, the salty version. It is a taste every Finn gets used to from childhood so it's just there and it is popular. But yes I can imagine anyone expecting the taste of fruity gum to be put off by this.
6:14 I'm also generally not big into seafood at all, but a good salmon soup is *to die for*. Also just freshly smoked salmon (well, it's usually rainbow trout, but anyway), when salted just right, is incredible.
I'm not sure if you ever noticed, but many of the older buildings in Helsinki still have some bullet holes on them (left there on purpose) from the Civil War!
I totally love your vlog. I'm Leah from Philippines and can't wait to visit Finland. My fear is the transportation to go around I'm kinda poor with it. Can you give me some advice please 🙏

haha thank you! ❤❤❤
Okay ya all, I’m running out of superlatives to describe how much I admire your video and editing skills 😊. Thanks for taking me to Finland and I’m looking forward to the rest of your journey.
Thank you so much!
I live in Northern Finland where the days in the winter are way shorter than Helsinki but the lack of daylight has never really stopped me from doing anything outside
That's what we have heard you have to do. Get out there no matter what to keep your spirits up
Welcome to Helsinki, Finland this week this Winter Season to explores the city in great joy February of 2024❤❤❤
Your videos are so enjoyable! Thanks so much! I always look forward to the next video.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
A+K = Best channel on UA-cam! Happy New Year guys! Keep doing your thing. You two bring so much joy and an adventurous spirit to us all. 😊
Thank you! ❤ Happy 2024 to you as well!
Yes we experienced that in Alaska and northern Canada when we went to the Arctic Circle in 2022. It's fun to experience!
Super video!!!! I liked it very very much.👏👏👏👏👏
We live with snow and ice on the ground for 4-5 months of winter here in the central mountains of Idaho.
We experienced that!
You really should visit finland in the summer! Finnish summer nights are the best time with the midnight sun (especially the summer festivals). I would recommend visiting the old city of Turku!! Just about an hour train ride away from Helsinki.❤
We hope to one day!
Plus we don’t like to leave our dog for long
The soup looked so amazing!!! 😋🤩 What a beautiful year you had & getting to celebrate in a new country is the coolest! 💖
I'm still dreaming of that soup! It was a special experience we won't soon forget!
Happy Belated New Year you 2!!! Can't wait to see what 2024 has to offer.
You as well, thank you!
We really enjoyed our time there!
Nice to see you guys here in my home country. Love your video's thank you.
Thanks for watching!
I bet you did check out restrictions for drones. Because you were just on the edge 😊
Yes we did 😊😅😂
Looking to visit in March.
Can I please ask what footwear you would recommend? Need to be geared up before going for sure!!
Very good content. Glad to hear you enjoyed finland. 😊
Thank you! We loved Finland!
Congrats on a great 2023, wishing you the best in 2024!!
Thank you! All the best to you as well!
Always funny watching people from "non-liquorice" countries try it out, especially Salmiakki, the salty version. It is a taste every Finn gets used to from childhood so it's just there and it is popular. But yes I can imagine anyone expecting the taste of fruity gum to be put off by this.
hAPPY NEW YEAR! Great video! Bless you guys. ❤
6:14 I'm also generally not big into seafood at all, but a good salmon soup is *to die for*. Also just freshly smoked salmon (well, it's usually rainbow trout, but anyway), when salted just right, is incredible.
Oh ya that lohikeitto is amazing! Love smoked salmon too!
I love to see this as a. Finnish person
Vendace is in the salmon family so the taste is really nice
It was super good and addictive!
I'm not sure if you ever noticed, but many of the older buildings in Helsinki still have some bullet holes on them (left there on purpose) from the Civil War!
No we didn't! That is very interesting!
You guys are brave! Would not go in to that cold water ❄️💦 good video 📹
It felt so good! Thanks and thanks for watching!
Salmiakki test passed! you are a Finn now! :D
Wahoo!
I totally love your vlog. I'm Leah from Philippines and can't wait to visit Finland. My fear is the transportation to go around I'm kinda poor with it. Can you give me some advice please 🙏
Nice video, best regards from Finland 🇫🇮 🎥
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Another great adventure.
I too have had too much salmon. I still would have loved to taste that soup.
I'm still dreaming of that soup!
