Thank you everyone for your kind comments about my Mangusta. And thank you to Jack too. We had a good day together and l think Jack was very pleasantly surprised! I have owned it for nearly 40 years. Apart from being lucky to own several Ferrari V12s l also owned a Miura for over 20 years. But guess which car l have kept as being so very special! It is like a favourite overcoat and l hope never to part with it.
Thank you for being so kind to lend Jack your car, I knew straight away it was yours having read many articles featuring it in classic car mags. You may know but was there a collector on the Fylde coast in Lancashire who had a Mangusta, I only ask as that's the area I'm from and I remember seeing one at a local Italian car specialist where he sent it for it's annual service and check over. I seem to remember being it white but not sure, the owner also had a Bora and a Stratos Stradale along with several other 60s/70s Italian exotica. Lovely car and thanks again
I still have the Dinky Toys Ford GT, white with narrow blue stripes, from nearly 60 years ago sitting on my desk! Unfortunately the little headlight jewels are long gone.
This had to be one of the most amazing looking cars ever made! Such incredible lines, I only wish they'd make similar looking today! Thank you John for letting the Mangusta out to play!!!!
True fact!!! Who’d ever seen a review on a Mangusta???? More importantly, a properly set up Mangusta!!! For me, it is right up there with Miura and the Stratos and the original Countach as one of the best looking cars ever! On top of that, it drives quite nice! Oh damn…
Great! From a look stand point I've always preferred the Mangusta to the Pantera... they're both gorgeous cars, but the Pantera is more beastly, while the Mangusta is more elegant!
The Mangusta was a much more rare and *higher MSRP* offering. The Pantera was "built to a price", for Lincoln-Mercury dealerships, and that's why the original steering wheel and instrument cluster was SO CHEESY... so much so that even the purists have upgraded them.
Had a poster of a Mangusta on my bedroom wall in the 60's. I've never seen a real one, let alone one in motion. This review ticks all my childhood boxes - thanks for posting.
Never saw Kill Bill, but a yellow Mangusta is shown in Kylie Minogue's _Can't Get You Out Of My Head_ video which came out a year or so before the Tarantino's movie.
Late 60's - early 70's was a great period when it comes to car design. The Mangusta is definitely one of the most beautiful cars of that time. Only 401 made, so I'm quite fortunate in that a museum about an hour from me had one on display last time I was there. I do hope they haven't sold it...
I’ve wanted to see a review and history of these beautiful machines ever since I had a toy one as a boy! It’s a work of art! No other way to describe it! Thanks so much!!
I've loved this car forever. A friend showed me the Kylie Minogue 'Can't get you out of my head' video and asked me what the car was. Instantly responded that it was a Mangusta.
The Mangusta was always considered a "Bad Boy". Nice to know that the reputation, on a properly setup car and not driven to the ragged edge anyway, is undeserved. It's looks are absolutely awesome, just the right combination of beauty and beast!
I've seen a few in Australia and they stops me in my tracks each and every time. Love the concept of the Mangusta and the body shape is simply 'to die for'. Thanks for another great video.
I was lucky to have driven one of these ,in the mid 80’s in Portland Or u.s.a. When I worked at a Porsche specialist.Only drove to the other side of town, but this brings back memories.🙏
and now a compliment for you Jack: you do remind me in this video of Rossano Brazzi driving the Miura on the mountain pass in You-know-where... Only Matt Monro serenading along is missing!!!
My favourite looking car of all time. Utterly gorgeous. Thanks for the review but even if I could afford one I doubt I’d buy one. Nevertheless the best looking car ever made imo!
In 1970 as a small boy I remember going with my pocket money in hand to ToysToysToys in Swiss Cottge London and buying the newly released Corgi Mangusta model. It was something of a revelation at the time, the body lifted off revealing the backbone chassis and engine.
And I thought Pantera looked great. For me, Mangusta is just gorgeous! If there is a car I want for my display case (I collect 1:24 scale cars), this is it! Thanks for driving this beauty and sharing your thoughts about it. You made my day! 😊
I seem to remember a Mangusta being used in a Disney Kurt Russell film from the late 60's. Might have been "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes," or similar. Joe Flynn was hilarious as always. What a car! DeTomaso CLub used to turn up at Italian car events in California, and we were spoiled seeing these cars int he 80s when they were within reach. Those engines can be easily tuned to 400HP and not expensively either. If you can find a genuine 427 engine, that would be the one for this car. Jolly good commentary. Thank you
I always liked the design of the Mangusta over the Pantera. There used to be many years ago a silver Mangusta here in Hobart, Tasmania. I assume it went back to the mainland but it was a treat to see one for real.
You are preaching to the world of gear heads out here. As nice as this segment is, more video of the suspension, engine and underpinnings would be much appreciated. Bodies are nice to look at, but many of us like looking at the junk under the bonnet even more.
Lovely car, love how Mr 27 really describes and appreciates the aesthetics, not only from a car perspective, but in a more artistic sense. Then again, I suspect he has Italian blood :)
@@Number27my first car was a '69 GTO that I bought from a kid at my high school who worked at a local paint/body shop. I never checked to see if it was a factory color, I'm pretty sure he sprayed it himself, but the color was what made me have to have it - it was almost exactly the same as this beautiful machine. Do you know the color by any chance? I absolutely LOVE this shade of my favorite color blue, I believe that some refer to it as French blue. Thanks for bringing back some great memories of my youth in the 80's spent with my own "blue beast", and wishing you continued success with your channel that I recently discovered and promptly subbed to👌👍🙂✌️
Giacomo, what a rare and magnificent car !!! Still modern in design, nothing is wrong in the low and streamlined profile of the Mangusta, because is simple, without chromed trims, without wings or spoilers, with no eccessive or unnecessary air intakes, just muscles and perfection. De Tomaso at its best, innovative and powerful, just a sports car. One of my dreams too.
A neighbor had one of these in red. I was a kid and I was absolutely shocked by 2 things: the tires, and that half the car was the biggest engine ever. And that sound... A rare car that is, also, beautiful.
Your channel became one of my favourites, with Harry's Garage and Tyrrell's Classic Workshop. And you are getting better and better. I don't watch that many car channels, cos I get annoyed too fast. But your channel? Love it.
It's not a Cleveland. It's a 302 windsor based motor. Totally different animal from the Pantera engine. Classic 260/289/302 short deck Ford small block instead of the Cleveland. If they stroked it, it's likely a 347 cid setup now. Real common for hot rodders here in the colonies!
The fact that this car can sit regular people in the car is a plus. Also it sounds and looks great. Suspension and other small mechanical things could easily mitigated! Like you said, a lovely car to drive.
It appears that you have some of the same favourite roads as Mr Harry Metcalfe…! And indeed why not? Fabulous part of the country. And another great video, of course!
That thing is just BRUTAL! It's just about my favourite supercar styling exercise. Even better than the Lotus Esprit that Giugiaro styled after this. But the styling language is unmistakably Giugiaro. When I was younger I preferred the Pantera, but that looks a little too 'over the top' for me now. The Mangusta is just sublime. Even the name is killer (pun intended)! Would love one of these (I'll buy one in my dreams). Can't believe how TINY it is though!
Beautiful car. I especially love the gorgeous normal sized wheels and the tires with those nice wide sidewalls. It looks so much better than anything made today. The DeTomaso Pantera was a beautiful car to begin with, now so many of them have been completely destroyed with 30" ghetto wheels without tires and wide body kits.
Fell in love with the car when I first saw a picture of one in 1968. Frustratingly a very rare RHD car came up for sale about 5 years ago which I just missed and in my favourite colour. It wasn’t cheap at £100k but as Jack said they are north of £300k now. Thanks for the review.
Thank you Mr Braithwaite for preserving this rare package of history and sensation. It's gorgeous! I was well aware of these cars when they were in production but I have never had the pleasure of seeing one.
Awesome car. Thank you for showcasing cars that I have only seen or heard about from Gran Turismo. This car looks awesome. Video production has also improved. Keep up the good work.
Didn't know how lucky I was when I was about 15, a friend of the family had amongst his stable of cars, one of these Beautiful vehicles. He took me for a ride in this, a 63 split window Vette, an HO Trans-Am and Pantera! 👍 Had no idea the Detamaso was one of only 400 something! Always enjoyed both the Pantera and the Mangusta! Oh my god!! That’s it! I had this car as a matchbox when I was a kid! Same color and everything. The back opened up to show the engine compartment too.
Nice job! A few niggles-the Mangusta actually doesn’t share the Pantera/Ferrari steering rack. It lifted it from the most lowly place imaginable-the Renault R4! Shifter is by steel rods and U-joints, not cables. Although the driving position can feel comfortable, the most unusual thing about the Mangusta is the proximity to the top of the windscreen. It is SO close to your face. One good sneeze and you will smack it good!
My brother had a wired remote control version and I had a matchbox one. They are one of my favourite cars. They are gorgeous and I finally saw one at the classic car show. Great video.
Such a beautiful design, modern car designers all over the world, please take this design language as an example! Thanks Jack for yet another interesting review, keep it on.
Steering? What's that? Brakes? So what. Hard shifter? Pffft. Park that beauty and just STARE at it. I got to pour over one in 1979 when a local dealer had one in Camarillo CA USA. I about flew off the highway when I drove past it, it was just too beautiful for words in its mist green metallic. I'll forever be in love with it.
I had a Maserati Bora back at that time. Same thing, and those two were not the only ones. There were quite a few short year run awesome cars back then, and compared to today's million plus cars they were quite affordable and available to a far greater segment of the population. I bought my Bora purely as a 'this will be worth more later' thing, drove it maybe 4 or 5 times and sold it a dozen years later for five times what I paid.
You’ve knocked this one right out of the park Jack! What a fabulous car. The Mangusta and the Espada, would be my first purchases if, no, when I win the lottery!
they are stealing it by creating stories that were made by them while wanting to relate a good italian car with american support or it wouldn´t be a car at all, but they are right in saying it was a Cobra Killer(excessive power on a litle english body, "the shelby")
Thanks Jack, your enthusiasm, always high, goes up a notch for anything Italian! Note the TVR Griffith was also known as 'the mongoose' for it's capability against Cobras. The Mangusta, another great looking & sounding De Tomaso!
@@Number27 Love the DeTomaro content. I really didn't know much about them apart from they looked beautiful and had big American V8 's. Perhaps a TVR Series next. All the way from the Original TVR Griffith to the Sagaris.😊

You’ve knocked this one right out of the park Jack! What a fabulous car. The Mangusta and the Espada, would be my first purchases if, no, when I win the lottery!
You have such a good taste sir.
Il design italiano è una delle pochissime cose di questo paese che mi fa sentire orgoglioso delle capacità di questa bella e cenerentola nazione ❤
they are stealing it by creating stories that were made by them while wanting to relate a good italian car with american support or it wouldn´t be a car at all, but they are right in saying it was a Cobra Killer(excessive power on a litle english body, "the shelby")
E’ evidente che non hai una minima idea della capacità’ Italiana su tutto il manufatturato......passato e’ presente!

Absolutely agree on the design aspect - I’m still divided on the most beautiful car of all time between the Mangusta and the Muira ;)
Muira for the win, no question, and after that, believe it or not, Ferrari 308 (euro spec).
Man what a car, fabulous styling and heaps of power.
As a kid back the 70s I bought this die cast model and cherish it for years.
Love it since when I was a kid...
Thanks Jack, your enthusiasm, always high, goes up a notch for anything Italian! Note the TVR Griffith was also known as 'the mongoose' for it's capability against Cobras. The Mangusta, another great looking & sounding De Tomaso!
Thanks for the info dude! And for watching

Love the DeTomaro content. I really didn't know much about them apart from they looked beautiful and had big American V8 's. Perhaps a TVR Series next. All the way from the Original TVR Griffith to the Sagaris.😊
What a fantastic looking and sounding car. Can't imagine many of those are left on the road.
Oh wow. I had never heard of or seen this car before. It is gorgeous!
I fell in love with the Mangusta when I first saw it in Kill Bill. It's the second best looking car in the world (#1 is the Maserati Ghibli 1970 Convertible)
Absolutely glorious Jack - I DO miss my Matchbox collection. Get someone to knock you up a Mangusta body shell and stick it on your forthcoming Pantera.
Absaloutly brilliant video jack ❤👍 what an amazing car absaloutly stunning brilliant
