Thanks for the video and editing Mattea, and thanks Jim for actually taking a Pantera out and doing what it was made for. So often I hear of cars becoming nothing more than a trophy.
What a treat, thanks! There's a great annual car show down in Tubac, AZ south of Tucson that has some really nice Panteras that show up. It'd be a fun little road trip down there, especially between Showlow and Tucson,, youd love it. Enjoy.
Glad you liked it! I agree that road around Showlow is epic! I have friends that live in Tuscon (Robbin and Leroy Bonnell have a 1974 GTS) and Steve Ram who lives in Tubac. They were just at the INDIE track event with POCA. I need to see about getting over there sometime!
It has QA-1 coil over shocks that allow for an adjustable ride height. I also use 10" springs which lower the car considerably. Stock Panteras that were sold in the United States from 1971-1974 all came with spring spacers which raised the car up to make the headlights meet the legal requirements in the states.

Thankyou Jim. A great video that goes to my favs, De Tomaso file. One of the longest and best, say unique, on-board Pantera vids. You are blessed to have one. Regardless faster than that, slower than this, the best design of all times in my eyes, with a bonus American V8 sound. Seeing a retired race Pantera in my country in early 80s, it was falling in love at first glance for me. At the age of 60 now, you made my day.
@@PanteraJim I really mean I enjoyed your vid so much but I can hit the like button only once. Sure there are other on board vids of Pantera but they are mostly from track days or similar events. This is "civilian", something different, say, gears strecthing as long as you desire on a long-long straight, for example. And when time comes, you can listen to the sound in a different harmony while the car is driven calmly. V-8 is another thing to chat about but about Pantera, no car freaks could say "if that line of this car were this way i.o....". A car that can contain all adjectives at the same time, like "beautiful, simple, raw, elegant, bad-ass", so on". Aside from all, just have look at the rear of the car exposing the all the rubber it has, won't one say "Man, it is damn sharp"? This is becoming a long comment Jim, so I salute you and your family from Istanbul, accross the ocean. Take care, enjoy your car and tell your daughter to keep it in the family.
Thank you for the kind words and glad you enjoyed it! I think Mattea does an awesome job with the editing as well! I will pass along your comment to her :)
Wow just awesome ! Absolutely stunning, perfect and what a beautiful wonderful way to spend some quality time with your daughter !! Say quick question I think; Any suggestions about buying a Pantera with either a 351 Cleveland or a 427/428 Ford motor with either a Tunnel Ram or a Blower on it ?? Good, bad or ugly idea I have ? Thank you Sir or anyone else with some knowledge……
Glad you liked the video! We had a blast filming it :) I have seen just about every engine installed in a Pantera including a few tunnel rams and even twin superchargers. The issue with superchargers on a Pantera is space to run the blower belt on the front of the engine is very limited. It can be done because I have seen it but the extent of the modifications necessary is unknown to These me. The twin supercharger setups are actually run backward and driven off of a jackshaft that runs from the front of the engine to the rear to operate the blowers. This setup has a lot of issues and everyone that I know that has done it has eventually removed the setup from their Panteras. These days, with the advent of stroker motors, you can make a ton of power pretty easily and much less complicated. Panteras equipped with big block Ford engines have been done before as well but once again with the popularity of Windsor based 427's producing 600 horsepower, the big block's extra weight doesn't help it in comparison. The latest craze is installing a coyote motor in the Pantera but I am too old school for that. I love the Cleveland based engines and always will.
@@PanteraJim thank you sir for this information, I also like the 351 Cleveland motor. I had a Cleveland in my 1972 Ford Gran Torino with the hood scoop that worked well as a ram air add on from the factory. I never had any problems with it, strong til the day she died. Sadly I had 138,000 miles on it when a big tree fell on her in a bad storm ⛈️ in Northern Illinois back in 1991, I had it since 1983 ! Only problem I had was it needed a heater core and since it was from California, I had to replace it with a special order from Ford lol. Other than that the car, engine and transmission were great never failed .
I have been watching his progress on his Pantera. I am really happy he was able to fulfill his dream but I see things on his car that really make me nervous. Thankfully the car is in good hands with someone who knows how to fix things!
Thank you Martin! Glad you enjoyed the videos. Yes, it is a stroked 351C to 408CID. The engine was built by a very good friend of mine in Los Lunas, NM called McGlasson Racing Engines. We call him the "Engine Whisperer"...he does amazing work. The engine dynoed at 600hp and 565 ft lbs of torque at 5000 rpm. Absolutely incredible power even from idle. We just returned from a 1000 mile trip to Arizona in it and averaged nearly 18mpg at 90mph. What more could you ask? :)
