  • Hello hello, hope you're doing well today!
Today we're out experimenting with two detectors... the Minelab Equinox 600 VS the X-Terra Elite.
Which is the better machine...? Is there an obvious difference?
Previous episode - A Few Hours TREASURE HUNTING This Beach PAID OFF!
    • A Few Hours TREASURE H...
I enjoy trying different metal detectors to keep things fresh and test how each works while learning their strengths and weaknesses along the way.
Metal Detectors I currently use in my videos:
In this video I was using the Minelab X-Terra Elite.
    Nokta Legend
    Garrett Ace Apex
    Minelab Vanquish 440
    Minelab XTerra PRO
    Minelab Equinox 600
    XP Deus II
    XP ORX
    (TOO MANY!)
    Gear I use while detecting-
    Gopro Action Camera
    Cheap Amazon Hand Digging Tool
    XP Pinpointer
    Thank you for your time!

Just a little experiment between two metal detectors. (EQUINOX 600 VS X-TERRA ELITE)
Let me know if I could have done anything better for the next test.

@@williamhassall4453 If you're detecting east coast wet sand without too much black sand...use Beach 1. Beach 2 is for when you submerge the coil in salt water and some would say for when there's a lot of black sand like in California.

Gold chains are hard to detect because the little loops tend to disperse the inducted signal rather than reflect back to the coil. The higher the sensitivity, closer to the coil, and being more balled up helps in detecting gold chains (also using minimal discrimination).
Both coils are DD, but the wider one I would imagine will have a wider detection footprint.
Very impressive on the gold rings with that visible black sand in the soil, and not to mention wet salt.
    Thanks

The chains are illusive! I wonder how many thin chains are hiding out there that the detectors just can't detect....

I'm sorry but I know you really like the elite but I really think the equinox is slightly superior, especially with the fine gold. You wouldn't have found the chain if you had the elite. Thanks for keeping it honest 👍

That is why you should buy nox 900 by using the 40khz mode or the nokta legend that uses the 40 khz mode too, so when buying a metal detector stick to the higher frequency one.

Equinox is better but lowering your recovery after already hitting the target will only give you better results as it goes deeper. Higher the recovery the shallower it goes. If the beach is clean with no iron then run recovery at 2 all the time. If the sand is mineralised then you should be doing a ground balance.

I would say they are both very similar. Neck to neck. I found it interesting how the Equinox 600 only picked up that gold chain in beach 1 model and beach 2 mode. If the chain is more balled up and closer to the coil that helps the machines see it better.

  • @stevenhovinga6584
    @stevenhovinga6584 6 днів тому +1

I would say the Equinox 600 did better. Maybe the coil had a little to do with it? but it seemed to pick up on the samples better. I guess the only way to do a better comparison would be to get as close as you can to matching coils. One interesting test with the gold chain, would be to see if you could find a setting that does pick up on the chain. Just to see if there is a way to repeatedly get a signal that would work when your going at a normal pace swinging as you would on any given day. If there is such a setting, then you could try varying the shape and depth of the chain. ✌

Yup. They went with the ellipticals on some machines because for park or land use with more concentrated trash, it's going to win. For raw depth though, round /larger is better. This is a simple way to get more depth without buying a new machine. Get a new coil! Sadly with coin prices the way they are sometimes a new machine is a better deal. 🤣

  • @buddywilliamson3098
    @buddywilliamson3098 6 днів тому +2

One thing everybody forgot.....the Minelab Equinox 600/800 coils has microchips to help with the processing of a target....the V12 coil on the Xterra Elite has no chip in the coil. You definitely can tell this by the way how the machines boot up the Elite has a faster processor and it's doing the work of two chips. Now the question is if you use a different coil on the Elite will the results be different....I say probably most likely..... remember the 600/800 came out in 2018. I hunt with a D2 and a Xterra Elite both are equally the same coming to depth on the beaches I hunt.

    • @beachhuntersouthafrica

@@beachhuntersouthafrica actually I had the Manticore for 3 months. The Elite will hit a nickel at 16 inches no problem on my beaches....matter in fact got gold with my Elite today. Gold nugget earring at 7 inches no problem.....The D2 is a better machine no doubt but the Elite can handle the EMI a lot better when you get crowds around 300k to 500k people on the beaches that's a small area too. You have Wifi boosters from the hotels, cellphone towers, Bluetooth speakers, that doesn't work too well with the D2 with all that EMI. If you have a 600/800 nox forget it to much EMI for them too in a few areas....

Minelab contradicted their own Multi-IQ marketing when thy introduced the Xterra Pro. But it’s clear why they did t, they were competing with the Nokta Simplex line that was enjoying alot of success. But like Nokta has done with their Score series, Minelab is doing with the Xterra. SO thiere is really no need to compare the Elite to the Pro. The Elite is SMF and cun run single frequency too, so its everything the Pro was/is, and more. That said, you can get some great finds in Single Frequency as proven in hundreds of posted videos of the Pro and Simplex machines.

Making a bunch of different VLF models at different prices might even cost them money. Also saw a couple Equinox 800 being sold for less than $500. But being afraid to dunk it is a bummer. I have the Legend and it seems a little quirky. In terms of detecting valuable targets it seems like the Equinox has a slight edge here, however it and the entire Equinox series is only submersible to 10 feet whereas the Elite is submersible to 16 feet and that means the Elite can go where no Nox can, and is probably more durable. Personally, I'd prefer a more durable detector and I would be digging every target underwater anyway (that's where the treasures tend to be) so it's the Elite for me. Would be interesting to see this head to head with the same coil though.
