When your from Louisiana and you watch this video it's actually very funny and cute to see people try to pronounce our dishes as well as watch the amazement on their faces when they see different things .

Correct. Hearing the pronunciations -- and the calling of things "iced latte" instead of Cafe Au Lait?!?!? LOL CRINGE.

As a native Louisianian, the amounts of food you ate seemed so small to me - - I'd eat about five times that amount of crawfish. But I was impressed at how well you peeled one on your first try. Happy Anniversary - - I can think of no place better than New Orleans to spend it.

I cannot thank you enough for this video.
I am British, live in Manchester - I have been asked where in America would you visit if you could?
My answer surprises folks because when they expect me to say New York or San Francisco, I say New Orleans, just because of the food.
    It fascinates me.
I love French food & can see the cross over.
You both do a great service to foody types, I particularly enjoyed your tour around Europe, especially England & Scotland.
    Take care & keep vlogging!
    Thank you once more.

I know I’m late but I’m American & NOLA is my favorite city! Avoid Bourbon! I recommend Frenchman St. Cafe du Monde is super touristy- you can get just as delicious beignets everywhere. Central Grocery is a must- home of the muffuletta!

My family "Fontenot" is the first to settle in the US that was sent here to establish a military presence in the name of France. Most came by way of Nova Scotia though. Louisiana has tons of french influence as we're the only state to have Parishes instead of Counties. But our food while having french names to describe them, is based heavily on food brought by Africans "gumbo" and Islanders who brought it with them. There's no better example of the American "melting pot" than Louisiana.

I admire how adventurous you were. Don't worry if you pronounced a few things wrong....being a transplant from Minnesota I had to learn the culture as well and how to pronounce them.
If you make another trip there are so many things to try as well aside from the "mainstays" if you travel uptown or try the Charbroiled Oysters at Dracos. Blackened Alligator, Oyster PoBoy, Couchon De Lait, Breakfast Jambalaya, True" Soul Food" like smothered chicken with collard greens.

so my friends and I just got back from Mardi Gras 2022 and this video was one we used for some inspiration, so just wanted to drop a line.
Mother's was our first stop, and that place is amazing. I had the Roast Beef Po'Boy and omg, my mouth has never tasted such savory goodness!
So glad you suggested Mother's. I suggest everyone to stop in at least once!

    • @clayrauch9718
      @clayrauch9718 5 років тому +5

@@shydobaankween Gumbo shop does not have that great of gumbo, but most people who never tried it say it is good. Most restaurants around Jackson Square are except Cafe Du Monde and Muriel's. Mr. B's has some really good BBQ Shrimp. Oceanic grill on Bourbon is a tourist trap as well as most on Bourbon. Ones that are not Arnaud's, Antoine's, GW Fins, Galatoire's, August,. Try a Muffaletta from Central Grocery. Grab one and go sit on bench by the river. Those restaurants are somewhat expensive, but there are many hole in the walls that are not that are far better than Mother's.

    • @ryancoulter4797

Oh ya, I imagine there's not much cajun food in CO...hopefully you get down to Louisiana soon! We're definitely going to have to try making the jambalaya and étouffée...we'll leave the crawfish boiling to the pros though :)

Loved watching this video! New Orleans is one of my favorite places. The people, the food, and the vibe cannot be matched. When you go back again look up a place called TOAST for breakfast. The food there is so good and it takes you out of the French Quarter. It is located in the Fairgrounds neighborhood but plan ahead, there is always a wait. Then go spend some time at the City park.

Jambalaya is really good mixed with the Louisiana style spicy smoked sausage.

@King Savage I live in New York, but I'm from New Orleans. New Orleans has the best food IMO, but it's all subjective. The seafood in NOLA is unlike anywhere in the world and because it's so specific not everyone will love it. But the vast majority of people who visit and I take out when I'm back in town acted like they had some sort of religious experience eating the food here. Living in New York, I will say it has the best variety of food and the fine dining choices are amazing. I love Asian cuisine here, but I still think the best Vietnamese food I've had was in New Orleans (I'm Vietnamese but haven't been to Vietnam yet) while the best Chinese food (in general not to get too specific with regional differences) I've had in North America was in Houston and L.A. L.A.'s food scene is also amazing. I read that the Vancouver area actually has the best Chinese food in North America these days. I think I love Boston and San Fran's seafood scene too and I don't compare them with New Orleans because it's a totally different style of seafood preparation and cooking.

lol watching this reminded me of the last time i was down there. and i live like 5 hours away LOL. but yeah you guys nailed alot of stuff. But there is soooo much more to offer if you go off the beaten paths and you will find some truly magical jems with the food. but if you are still down there.. ya gotta get a Muffaleta sandwitch. 1 whole one could feed you both LOL. and they famous cajun roast beef poboy's at PARASOL’S RESTAURANT AND BAR on Constance & Third in the Irish Channel. might seem dodgy, but you will not be disapointed.
