thanks for the clip. there are 2 big screws at the bottom of the, "cabinet." when you take them out, you can lift the whole cabinet off using the handle, and then its much easier to maintain the wick, and you don't bend the handle to get the lid off, the way shown in the clip. btw, i've run these things continuous for days with no problems. its the first couple burns that require most maintenance.
Thank you. Great video. This is nearly identical to a Dyna-glo. Looks Identical. I sell them and never realized that it is not a maintenance free heater. The manual just tells you to dry burn at "X interval", They don't tell you how to dry burn and clean it. I will reference your video if people want to see how it is done.
you bring up an interesting point. I never thought about allowing the unit to run out of fuel in an effort to burn off carbon deposits builtup on the wick. It's a great idea thanks
I think this is why you can get used kero heaters so cheap. People dont know you gotta do this and then complain that they stink or wont light. Heck i bought a new one about 3 years ago and didnt realize you had to do a burn about a week after using a new wick. boy was i surprised after the first dry burn. The heater went from good heat to a mini sun in my living room
That wick looks brand new lol, mine was black as night changed it yesterday I think all the carbon built up from running diesel fuel in it. Still cheeper to run diesel and change the wick them pure kerosene.
just watched the video, seems easy enough. ill give it a go tho I dnt seem to have any oders at the moment. I guess better do it now to make the wick last longer. I actually own 4 kerosene heaters. Have you seen my latest monster, the corona blue flame, wickless?
You say an eagle fan gives20% efficiency. Do you have a link for this fan? Also will this work with a fiberglass wick & do you ever have to dry burn? Thanks for sharing.
Most eco fans you buy work equally well. As long as they are thermal electric. If you can find a fibreglass wick that would fit the unit it would work fine. Yes just like the video says. After your tank empty’s out, wait a half hour and then dry burn the creosote off the wick
While cleaning out my detached garage, I found a kerosene heater. My husband passed away over 11 years ago so I know it hasn't been used in over 12 years. Any chance it'll still work safely?
As long as it’s not broken then yes Kerosene is very stable and can not light on fire with a match. Put some in, let us sit then light it up outside. If it stinks then clean it up. Make sure you use fresh kerosene and not what was in the tank
Hi, it very well could be especially if the kerosene got warm over summer. Empty your tank and burn your wick out and clean it then ad new stuff and try. It can also be your wick is wore out or slipped out of adjustment. I’d try the kerosene first and let me know how you make out. If it’s the other issues, it’s an easy cheap fix.
Either your not using k1 kerosene or your wick is to high up or low when it is burning. After lighting make sure wick housing is sitting back flat and flame is orange and roughly a half inch high visible above burner. To low and it will black up and smell will burning and to high it will smoke and burn to fast.
Uhm...you should show us how to repair a broken down car that isn’t broken down. You are doing a video on how to clean a wick that is already clean! How does that help?
do a klean every tank full of fuel, i don;t even bother with the OVERPRICED WORTHLESS JUNK.. burning home heating oil in my kerosene heater so i havet o d a dye burn every time. or it klogs the wick....
Mine too I won't even use it. Thought I was gonna burn the house down. It was new from Lowes now it's in the dump. It should never had done that new. Bought a used one now putting a new wick in
StARart the heater outside. A brand new heater must be "aged" for one hour outside to burn off oils used during manufacture and to "fuse the paint." A wick that continues to smoke may be set too high. Find videos on how to install wick on your style of heater.
it doesnt take 5 minutes... it takes that hour wait after you relight the wick and let it burn out again all the while its 20degrees outside and you have no heat...this equipment stinks...literally and figuratively..... during the last half of the tank the flame goes down to almost nothing and loses half or more of its btu's... I dont know what he is doing but its not working for me......I'm going to return this crap and buy a torpedo

I was gonna say the same thing. :-D
Thank you for this video. Simple and to the point. You answered all my questions in this one video. I understand now, thank you.

I take it you never read your instructions lol
This is educational for me.

How did it go?

@@wildwillyprepper thank you!
So, you are burning it 3 times then clean?
If it burns dry, how you re light?
How do you know when it's time to replace the wick
the wick goes dark brown and hard to the touch, it will be difficult to slid and will burn yellow, smokey and/or won't light anymore
Thanks!
you dry burn your Wick after each tank full ?
Yes I do. The odd time I’ll let it go a couple fills but usually every tank
@@wildwillyprepper you use Diesel?
Good morning, I have two heaters. The flame will not stay stay lit high. it will aways fade. Could it be bad Kerosene?

Do you let it burn out at its extended height, or lower the wick …
Extended
Hi,
I just bought a new kerosene heater and the wick is black and hard only used it once. Do you know why this is?

How is it possible that when you relight the wick "DRY" that the creosote will burn off without turning the wick to charcoal?
Wicks are fibreglass.
I brush my wick each day with a toothbrush, then dry burn weekly.
Whats an equal fan? Thank you
This is an eco fan.......

Hey can you run diesel in this with ventilation
You can but it stinks very bad
@wildwillysearchgod ok but it won't hurt the Wick any
@@hamradio365 it is harder on your wick and you willl need to replace it sooner
How often should you change the wick
Uhm...you should show us how to repair a broken down car that isn’t broken down.

That’s why I showed you jackass, keep it clean and you will never see it dirty

Cleaned my heater and when I light it now it catches on fire and burns black smoke
salohcin cnelor the inner chamber you pulled out is not sitting in proper.

When the elec goes out the torpedo is a boat anchor.
You dry burn after every tank
I do. That’s why after 4 years I’ve never had to change a wick
