    I bought a Kerosene heater at a yard sale recently. I paid more for the Kerosene, the new wick about 12 times more. The heater had a $5 price tag.

    Myles Stair WIck Shop for parts and wicks if you need one. Those wicks have fiberglass tips and are meant to be burner out dry to clean them. Many wicks don't burn properly due to poor fuel and water contamination. A water contaminated wick can be cleaned in denatured alcohol and reinserted after drying it. Those heaters can save your life and keep your house from freezing in a power outage.

    It doesn’t hurt to keep several on hand. One never knows if they will become unobtanium in the future. As long as the fuel dose not contain moisture and you keep the heater in a dry place off season you will have no issues of rust.

    I have a touch n glow heater. I light it as usual but it only burns for half a minute then flickers randomly around the collar. Little random blue hots spots then goes out all together. Top of wick is black and furry. In off position it is deep in the collar. Raises about 1/4 inch above to light. Your video was great all long shots, I have no idea what is too high or too low. I've had the same problem twice now after burning off my wick,... I burn it clean, fill it back up, wait a few hours, light it up & it works great ONCE !... I light it the next day & it barely burns, it burns like it's running out of kerosene.
    I replaced the wick, got to the point that the wick needed to be burned clean, same problem again.

    Just picked up a 10000 btu Radiant Kerosene heater. Last winter, here in the Catskills, we had power outage after power outage and nearly froze to death. Almost impossible to get anyone to put in a wood stove or an electrician up here with the building boom that's going on, so, I'm hoping this will do the trick. Kerosene is almost 60 bucks for a 5 gallon container at the cheapest big box store - Tractor Supply. I haven't checked out the local NY gas stations yet. Thanks for this video.

    Very helpful video - thank you! I purchased a similar heater (brand new Keroworld KW-11F) 2 months ago and up until now it has worked perfectly. I noticed a few days ago that when I shut off the heater the wick assembly was not releasing all of the way down and I had to start manually turning it to get it to completely shut off. Now, when I light the heater, it fires up full ignition but after about 1 minute the wick just flames out and starts to smolder. I don’t think the fuel is getting to the wick after it burns off. What could be causing this? I’ve used these heaters for over 25 years and have never had this problem. It’s as though I got a bad batch of kerosene that might have water in it. Any thoughts as to solve this problem please? Thank you! - Tom

      It could be poor quality fuel, but more than likely carbon on the wick. Most newer ones are fiberglass wicks, and you are supposed to burn them dry about every week to keep the carbon from building up. Raise the wick up all the way, lift up the burner knob and feel it. If it's hard and crunchy it's carbon. Dry burn and then scrub with a toothbrush.

      Sounds like moisture in the kerosene but any contaminants in the fuel will clog the cotton pores to the point sufficent fuel no longer reaches the burn chamber.

    i,ve been using paraffin or keresene heater in the uk my whole life, (40 odd year.s) & my parents also had them when i was a child as well as a coal fire & would often be sent with our paraffin container to the local garage or to one of the local hardware shops. Where they would fill it up, at so much a gallon, these days its sold pre packed, which to me, (esp these days where they go on about plastic waste & recycling etc), is stupid, its now sold in 4ltr container,s ,at around 8 quid a bottle, (so its quite expensive & more expensive than petrol or diesel, & 4ltr,s is a bit less than a gallon) i have 4 paraffin heater,s, & it varies which one i use. But its usuly one of my old aladdin blue flame heater,s that i use. The heat it puts out will easily heat a small 2 up 2 down small terrace house, i also use a couple of victorian paraffin lamps, the smell dosent bother me in the slightest, & i quite like it. but i cant stand these automatic air freshner,s what people have, they make me sneeze & cough constantly, but somehow paraffin does not make me cough or sneeze.

      It’s not hard. There are three. Tabs you can get off with vice grips. You don’t need to clap them on hard. There is one on each side. And one on the back. That will get the cover off. Then. You will find three more just like the first ones for the cover. Then. Lift it off. You will see three wing nuts. Take them off. And what holds the wick. Just pull it up. And out. Inside of what holds the wick. You will see little things that look like thorns. Like on a rose stem. That is what holds the wick. Just squeeze it together. That will get it out. Crap your new wick. Put it on the same way you took it off. Just let some of the wick stick out of the top. What you put it back together. Just truck your wick up. So you know you set it up good. If you have any questions. Feel free to reach out to me. Take care

    kerosene VAPORS burn and not the wick. Only the thin top edge of the wick (fiberglass) gets black and dirty.... the kero vapors make it glow red or yellow ...

    • @RusticTrends
      @RusticTrends  Рік тому

      That I did not know. Thank you for teaching me that.

    • @STho205
      @STho205 Рік тому

      Yes, you ignite wet kerosene on the wick with an outside fire (the electric lighter or a match) and the continuous burn is the kerosene oil boiling away into gas that burns.
      Gasoline can vaporize easily at room temp. Nat Gas is already a gas...so neither of them need a wick....just a surface that regulates the gas...
      Kerosene needs to be spread very thin to ignite and to start the cycle of boiling away into heat, C02 and Water steam.
      The wicks are slightly scorched by the flame, which provides an ideal carbonized catalyst surface. So wicks do burn away but very very slowly....unless you burn them like dry cotton rope or nylon rope.
