When we first got to see some NBA in the Netherlands I became a fan of the Spurs. This was during the Bulls prima years, but I always preferred the underdog and I ended up being a Spurs fan. I always love stars that remain humble. In that regard Robinson was the easy pick as my fan favourite. NBA dissapeared from our screen in the Netherlands and I lost my interest just when Duncan joined the Spurs and they won their first title and many after.
Only since last year I returned to following the NBA. With youtube there is plenty of material to watch and ESPN shows the playsoffs so it's nice to watch basketball again. I ended up rooting for the Nuggets during last season as Jokic is also a selfless and humble star which always has team before himself. It was easy to root for them and it ended quite nicely :)
I'm not picking a side again. I just like to watch good games and will always prefer a certain style of game. So I will root for the teams that play as a unit.

David Robinson even served in the United States Navy when he was young.
It is truly amazing that after completing his two years of compulsory military service and retiring from the military as a lieutenant in the Navy, he later became a superstar player in the NBA.

A bunch of teenagers none of which (except Robinson) being in any of the first three teams of that year, playing together for the first time, facing a full power Arvidas Sabonis before his foot injury, and the Soviet Union, maybe the biggest basketball machine Europe had produced. Rodman was supposed to help on Olajuwon in that series but decided he didn't want to and threw a temper tantrum and essentially sabotaged that playoff run. No center in the NBA could defend Olajuwon in iso for 40 minutes at a time and Robinson and the entire Spurs team got hung out to dry. They probably would have won the whole thing that year if Rodman didn't have one of his episodes. There's a reason the Spurs traded him away to the Bulls for peanuts afterwards.

The Admiral was my favorite center growing up, and if it weren't for the Greatest Center ever in Hakeem, would have been regarded as the greatest center of the 90's and 2-way center of all-time. Considering David lost 2 years of his prime due to his Naval service and others shortened due to his major back injury, he could have been easily ranked even higher. Still, I believe he's only behind Hakeem, Kareem, Wilt, and Russell among all-time centers (top-3 defensively with Hakeem and Russell), just ahead of Duncan and Shaq for superior versatility on defense, better passing, better shooting touch, and general versatility to thrive in more eras/styles.
While Duncan (and Shaq) experienced more team success and longevity than Robinson, Tim had the far better supporting cast for his entire career, superior team management, unparalleled stability in coaching by one of the greatest, limited competition of top rival teams (primarily the Lakers and Suns/Kings/Jailblazers), and complete dearth of top centers for most of his career (Shaq and Duncan being the only top-level centers during the 2000's other than Dwight and Yao). Arguably, David would have been at least as successful had he played in Duncan's years. Not that it factors into the equation, but the Admiral earns more admiration for being the epitome of an already rare-quality athlete who is also really smart and well-rounded person (academically, talented in music and gymnastics) as well as being a model citizen (he opened his own charter school with his own money).

The fact that David Robinson is considered " old school" is depressing. Living in San Antonio during the Spurs run with Robinson was amazing.

He was awesome. I love his last game - just a monster. And his 12 dunks game is funny - he dunks so much that he has troubles with finding new ones to do.

Top 20 for sure. If you put him on a bad team he takes that team to the playoffs in just a year, if you take him off one year, that team fails to make the playoffs. And he did it with minimal help. When he got real help, they won the title multiple times. DPOY, scoring title, regular season MVP, a quadruple double, scored 71 once... yeah, that's Top 20.

I just subscribed to your channel and I wanna say Thank You for the Stories about David and Tim because San Antonio doesn't get much respect in the NBA even though they won 5 Championships but I don't care if they get Respect or Not the San Antonio Spurs are the team with Class and when we won the First Championship we celebrated on the streets but never destroyed property or start fires like you see other cities do just a team and fan base with Class. Is love to see you do something with Mr. Spur The Iceman George Gervin

David is worthy of being a top 50 player. Beyond that he played the game the way it was meant to be played. Today there are only a few players in which you can say that. He is a legend in my book.

I'm a huge fan of David Robinson and I think the reason he is overlooked is that playoff matchup against Olajuwon.
That a was a hard time to be a center: Olajuwon, Robinson, Shaquille, Ewing. And the second level was Mourning, the limited Sabonis, Divac, Mutombo, Dougherty... Just like today.

Shaq and David were actually very similar Centers that played by circling around the rim and relying on their quick feet and athleticism. Both had short turn around jumpers. David also had a face the basket J and could make it out to 15-18ft. Shaq didn't have that but he was so much more powerful and dominant on the low block

The ADMIRAL David Robinson was a good man also. Military Honors and Top Professional Basketball honors. Only NBA player that can claim those honors. Of course The Worm and an Admiral would not get along. One was a good man and the other chose a different path.
