Ask Gamedev What can you do with funding if your a solo indie game maker
Your next video should be what are the ways of getting developers make a game for you.
@@crash419animations5 Easy, hire them
Do we get 1 million dollar from the platform here ?
Crowdfunding has turned into a real pain in the ass for genuine developers thanks to numerous P.O.S developers in the past who made crappy campaigns with many false promises that never deliver, turning over ambitious midway, deadlines being extended to years , and when the product that is finally out, it is nowhere as good as what was promised in the pitch. This douchey practice has increased the skepticism of the entire community. Now , the gaming community is very generous , as well as patient if it means that they will get a great game , provided you don't take them for granted, Periodic updates and minimizing extensions should always be a priority. If you keep a "hey thanks for your money, I'll see you when its done, lol bye!" sorta attitude, your company is most probably going to get a lot of hate and that could in turn affect the game.
*Cries in mighty #9*
These are all great ideas! Crowdfunding is definitely becoming more and more popular. Personally I took the route of getting a full-time job and started doing game development as a hobby about eight months ago now. I give real credit to those who go full-time Indie, but I don't think I could take that amount of stress as handling just the game side of things is really tough as it is. Programming, modeling, marketing, story, level design, animation, etc. is a lot, not to mention any kind of personal or family bills/expenses. Anyway, these tips can really help fund and promote your game at the same time. Thanks!
When giving out an early demo of a game, I fear that someone with more skill will take my idea and market it as their own
What if you only released the demo once you were far enough in development? That way, you have enough of a head start to finish your game before other people can finish and release their rip-off.
@@someoneman4393 I agree. You can even start posting dev logs on your channel to further cement the game/idea is yours with proof.
@@someoneman4393 If you already far in the development it means you don't need much money to finish it
That's one of the scariest feelings ever since I've been developing games
That is one of two of my fears, the other being that the demo would make someone no longer be interested in my game, think about the new Avengers game, there are so many people who are pulling back their pre-order, even if they make the game a lot better it still taints the first impression in my eyes.
Now i know!!!
money was my main problem to be an indie-dev.
thanks for this information, guys!!!
It's really cool you guys are keeping your video topics up to date! Thanks for the hard work!
No problem!
our first indie game was a a disaster. the team stays motivated though. we learned a lot making our first game. but how should we go forward from here?
Great video, as usual.
Thank you so much for showing Slyway as game of the week :)
Glad we finally got to feature it :)
Excellent video as always. Keep up the great work guys. I learned so much with this, as always.
Thanks Nicholas! We're really glad to help you out on your gamedev journey
Really needed this, thanks
This is really helpful and concise. Thank you so much!!!
Always learning something new! I wasn't aware of some of these, thanks!!!
Thanks for the support!
See you when you have 1Mil subs
I am currently downloading gdevelop because of you guys, I love what you do and thank you for helping me find a no programming app
GDevelop is cool and I would recommend it few years ago, but its development had stalled. I'd recommend Unity or Godot instead.
@@UltimatePerfection I agree but those apps require some coding but it's not that hard depending on the size and quantity of the game
But I advice construct 3 for beginers that want to make 2d games
@@crash419animations5 Godot in 3.1 got visual scripting system and there are several visual scripting solutions for Unity such as PlayMaker or Blockly. Visual scripting = "no coding".
oh thanks that best publishers video didn't suit me
you guys help a lot thanks
Best way is to have a job, or better yet, a career. I am been working on modelling/animation/texturing etc and I do it for 3-4 hours a day before work. I can easily use my own disposable income to pay for whatever I want. Sure it going to take 3-5 years to make a game, but I will finish with the game I intend, not something rushed out because they cut my power and I am starving to death.
I hope I had a good paying job like you sir, but Alas, getting funding is my only hope :'D I've been doing freelance illustrations and pixel animation for almost 5yrs now but I still can't save enough money to fund my own game. so sad (link: facebook.com/mikaru.san/videos/2529985213987918/?t=34)
GG Guys! I Love your Videos
What should we call our crowdfunding company?
Hmmm.... how about FIG!
Why Fig?
Lol idk
All joking aside, Fig looks really cool! Thanks for this video!
😂
Nice job on the game on your channel. Good luck with the crowdfunding!
@@indieprogress7170 Thank you very much! (which one tho?)
I'm not trying to crowdfund anything at the moment, but it's good to know your options.
@@AntiqueGear Hi. The wall or Floor. The art is good, but the player controls movement look great!
Fund indie games probly
What music are you using in the background?
is the "unreal dev grant" must be used with unreal? (i mean the software unreal engine 4)
Great video! Currently bizzy with a project. I love your video’s, they really help me
Thanks! What kind of game are you working on?
Ask Gamedev I’m working on an open world game in Unity. You can perform many jobs and are free to do what you want
*bizzy*
This voice over guy is good.
This information very helpful to me 😊😊😊👍👍👍👍 u have petron
Bloodstained is the most funded indie game in Kickstarter and I bought this!!!
How do you determine the amount of time and money needed to make your indie game?
Which GAM jam should you go any year
Hey Kesari - here's our video on the best game jams. Hope this answers your question! ua-cam.com/video/EssZP_SN_UE/v-deo.html
How should I Use? IndieGogo! www.indiegogo.com
Is it normal to raise money on multiple crowdfunding sites at a time?
Me, a child without a credit card who's not only trying to make a retro style game, but make an engine with c++ too: Ah yes, how to earn money
Please make a mobile publisher video explaining what *exactly* do we need to get accepted and how to implement that
Thanks for the suggestion Aashish - we'll add this to the list of community ideas. What roadblocks have you run into so far?
Well, I pitched to one and got no response. So I think I messed up something I don't know what. Maybe you can help. Please include mobile publisher info cause mobile games are easier to make and lots of developers make them including me.
wow, indie-fund - 25% of total proceeds, plus the 30% from steam. good god.
riftcutter you don’t have to use steam, you can use something like itch.io
@@DimaGamer3601 Itch.io is limited to 1 gb in size
www.indie-fund is not loading

Hey Guys at Ask Gamedev can you please make a tutorial on godot? Thanks for your response
Thanks for the suggestion Raju! We'll add this to our list of community requests and ideas :)
Hey Raju. Not sure of your experience with Godot, but you can find a good 3D tutorial here:ua-cam.com/video/-D-IcbsdT04/v-deo.html or if 2D:ua-cam.com/video/wETY5_9kFtA/v-deo.html
@@indieprogress7170 thank you I'm new to programming and game making and would like any support

The irony of mentioning the Unreal Dev Grants is they JUST announced the last recipients of their grant program today and shut it down since they reached their $5million goal.
Great news! Epic announced an even bigger fund - Epic MegaGrants! We'll add a link the description.
All the four nations were in balance . . . Until the fire nation attacked~ 3:00 *bwa bwaaaa*
Shame that growfunding is not legal in the country i live in. No heckin clue why though.
Creating an ambitious game gets really expensive, current project now has been in development for four years
and probably cost me over 2000 (Euros) including music made for it and all.
What country do you live in?
There's a lot of devs who quickly realize it was beyond their ability, and people lose out on a lot of money.
Epic Grant just ended today btw

2:29 Pretty sure Hollow Knight was funded by Kickstarter.
Initially, but Team Cherry went to Indie Fund near the end of development for a bit more money to help finish things up. They got $30,000.

Indie Fund seems stupid and unfair especially if you have a solid project at hand. They want to to payback the initial investment and suck you dry for 2 years? lol It would be less draining to team up with a decent publisher then to ask for funds from these guys.
First
Not a good idea to rise a fund for indie game... More people, haters, narcissistic, and spoiled will start throwing more money to ruined your game. Or I want to ruined your great game design. But you get sue for not releasing a long wait game for rising higher funds. You will also make million in first game. Not worth it. For example, cyberpunk 2077, Star Citizens. They failed....
The secret of success is... You keep quiet. Don't ask for funds. Don't show. Don't tell before E3 release.
