I have four other videos of them doing originals at this show. I hope you check them out. From looking at set lists, it appears that they do favor playing cover songs for encores, paying tribute to their influences like Lou Reed/Velvets, The Stooges, Modern Lovers etc.
Ummmmn.....A lot of bands do this with their çovers and these guys really do it and I don't know why. IMHO They play any and EVERY cover they attempt way, WAY TOO FAST. Yes their BRILLIANT, off the HOOK, insane, 100mph Beatles cover from 'Crazy Rhythms' made a statement c.1979 but in later years and now, eh...Not so much...They've succeeded in wringing the life out of this Velvets tune. When I saw The Feelies in Boston '82(?) at place called 'Storyville' in Kenmore Square long before Boston University bought up the neighborhood, gentrified it, made it "safe" (and sterile) for all the BU kiddies, basically an outdoor shopping mall but that came later and is another story... Meanwhile The Feelies were touring 'Crazy Rhythms' and they were a force of nature. I even remember they did 'Run, Run, Run', from The Nico album and it must've been at least PRETTY good! At least it seemed that way at the time....In subsequent years, later albums and later shows I saw them do as the years went on they kinda lost a lot of their originality and fell into a much more conventional kind of sound (to say nothing of their çovers....). Eventually whenever they came to town (late 80s-90s?). I had lost interest in these guys, As too often happens The Feelies never surpassed their first few independent singles and their MONUMENTALLY great first album. It's really too bad but you can't go home again.
