    How to cook Simple Vegan Duck with Bean Curd Sheets [meaty DIM SUM Tofu Skin ROLLS] 烧素鸭?
    Vegan Duck /Goose, also known as Mock Duck is among the top ranked dish of Chinese vegetarian cuisine. Legend says, it was originated from buddha temples and was consumed by the monks. The sheets of Tofu Skin are fill with delicious juice. It can be served as an appetizer or a main dish and not even exaggerating to say both its nutrition and taste are comparable to the real Duck meat. The recipe is very simple and requires only a few ingredients.You have to try this!
    Ingredients:
    4 bean curd sheets
    25g rock sugar or sugar
    2 bay leaf
    2 star anise
    200ml water
    2 tbsp soy sauce
    1 tbsp dark soy sauce
    1 tbsp vegetarian oyster sauce

    Soooo Lecker!! This is one of the best things I've ever had! I can't beleive how much it really tasted like duck but better! Its so nice to eat something vegan that has some actual consistency, it really gave me the feeling like eating meat but without the meat! I will definitely be making this again! Thanks!

I've been using tofu skin for years in coconut curry , marinated and baked , sometimes just raw with soy sauce and ginger ( japonese style) or throwing it in various dishes.... I buy mine fresh, not dried in my local health food store ( Hodo brand ), it's organic and a bit pricey but very nice. I can probably find the dried one in an asian shop near buy....Thank you for new recipes ideas ! I never get tired of the stuff plus it's high protein !

    I still owe you my comment, since I guess this is your turbo-fast answer to my request concerning the use of tofu skin for dim sum. I already made this on Saturday and it was very delicious! Thank you very much. But i noticed there has to be a different kind of dried tofu skin to the one I found in my Vietnamese supermarket, since the one I bought was dryer than yours and much more brittle. I will check out the other local Asian supermarkets and see, if there is a more moist and pliable tofu skin in the refrigeration or even frozen section. If I am successful I will report at once!       Thank you for your feedback! Yes, soy bean sheets is a real good ingredients that you can use in many ways. For example, if you blanch them briefly, you can make salad with it. Or cut a little smaller, just add to soup. Deep fried soy bean sheets as a spicy or sweet snack.... So have fun trying them out!😍💐

    I think it’s wonderful that I just found your channel and have already made several recipes more than once! I didn’t have any beancurd sheets left and had order more, but I’m looking forward to making this dish as a treat to myself.
    I wish I could find your cookbook, as my college age child is studying German in college and will be leaving for a year abroad in Berlin. I have a live in translator, thankfully.

    With the exception of the sprinkling of flour, and the sugar, the ingredients are low carbohydrate. Thus, replacing the sugar with allulose, which caramelizes like regular sugar, this recipe would be low carb. And, I presume the flour could be replaced with a sprinkling of oat fiber, to reduce carbs even further.

      Thank you for your feedback. It's great that you have given more thought to the recipe and also tried to optimize it in the low carb direction. I would give the oat fiber a try, it might work because the amount of flour used is not much, you could leave out the flour. And I found out that allulose is not yet approved in the EU because the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has requested more studies on possible side effects. we'll see what happens this year.

      Tofu-Blätter, die sich an der Oberfläche von gekochter Sojamilch bilden, werden zur Herstellung von Tofu Blätter gesammelt. Sie sollten so dünn wie Papier sein, ein wenig durchscheinend und leicht gelblich gefärbt. Getrocknete Tofuhaut wird entweder in Form von Blättern oder Stäbchen verkauft, die vor dem Kochen eingeweicht werden müssen. Vegane Ente mit Tofu-Blätter auch bekannt als Mock Duck, gehört zu den beliebtesten Gerichten der chinesischen vegetarischen Küche. Die Legende besagt, dass sie ursprünglich aus den Buddha-Tempeln stammt und von den Mönchen verzehrt wurde. Die Tofuhautblätter sind mit köstlichem Sauce gefüllt. Sie kann als Vorspeise oder Hauptgericht serviert werden, und man kann ohne Übertreibung sagen, dass sowohl ihr Nährwert als auch ihr Geschmack mit dem von echtem Entenfleisch vergleichbar sind. Das Rezept ist sehr einfach und erfordert nur wenige Zutaten, die Du unbedingt ausprobieren musst!
      Zutaten:
      4 Tofu Blätter
      25 g Kandiszucker oder Zucker

    Did you use dried or refrigerated bean curd sheets? Do the refrigerated/frozen kind need to be rehydrated too?

      I used dried bean curd sheets. I think with frozen you only need to thaw it, then you can already use it.In Berlin I have not yet found frozen, but it must also work, I'm very excited if you try the recipe with it!😍

      Bewahrest Du übrig gebliebene Tofuhaut zur weiteren Lagerung in der Originalverpackung auf, die Tüte sollte fest schließen werden. Wenn es nicht versiegelt ist, wird es trocken und leicht zu zerbrechen, hat jedoch keinen Einfluss auf den Verbrauch:-)

      Thank you for your feedback and interest! I'm not sure if you've ever tried dishes made with bean curd sheets or Tofu Skin. Everyone's tastes can be quite different. This dish is a traditional Chinese vegetarian dish, visually appealing and bursting with flavor. If you enjoy the flavors of the seasonings in this dish (star anise, soy sauce...), it's definitely worth a try ;-)

      Hello, ich freue mich, dass du planst, dieses Vorspeisen-Gericht zu Weihnachten für deine Familie zuzubereiten! Du kannst es zuhause fast bis zum Schluss vorbereiten, aber lass es nicht zu sehr einkochen, sondern behalte etwas Brühe zurück. Dann wärmst du es bei deiner Schwester auf und je nach Konsistenz kochst du die restliche Brühe weiter ein, bis sie dickflüssig wird. Beim Erhitzen im Ofen bin ich etwas besorgt, dass es austrocknen könnte.

    Does this work with any bean curd sheet? I have these sticks that can be soaked and unrolled into sheets. They're not as white and a bit thicker. Are mine better for other recipes?

      Tofu sticks is actually the same kind of thing as bean curd sheet (tofu skin). Both are made by boiling soy milk, keeping it warm and then forming a layer of oil film, which is picked up and dried in the sun. The difference between it and bean curd sheet is that bean curd sheet is laid flat when it is sun-dried, while tofu sticks is made to sag naturally so that after drying, it becomes branch-like. It is best to choose to use bean curd sheet for this recipe, as the appearance can resemble "duck meat". But if you don't care about the shape, you should be able to try making it with tofu sticks as well. Also you can check out the recipe about YUBA.     Hi, I live in the Netherlands, I have got the same dried beancurd sheets and I did not like the recipe. the "meat" was very watery but dried as it wasn't cooked enough and I precisely followed every step; actually, I left the sheets to rehydrate for 10 minutes instead of 5. Shouldn't the beancurd sheets be steamed or cooked first? any suggestion? thanks😘

      Hi, thank you for your message and for trying this recipe. The tofu sheets are very thin, so the hydration time should not be too long. After that you should try to dry the surface water before rolling. In fact, the tofu skin on the surface is already cooked during the frying process. But they don't have any taste at this time. The next braising process is important, where all the seasonings slowly soak into the tofu sheets. The simmering broth reaches just about halfway up the tofu roll.Until the broth becomes thick and all adheres to the top of the tofu. The result should be tofu sheets that are cooked and very flavorful.😊
