You sir are a legend, I have been trying to figure that noise out for 8 months, I thought that forums and mechanics were thinking that I was crazy with my obsession with this noise. Thankyou so so very much.
Living legend! I’ve spent so much money chasing this rattle down. It’s been two days and noise is gone. I used heavy duty felt that comes with double sided tape attached.
@@mariacepeda5310 I removed the air intake and put the felt on both ends of the intake. Under the front side that sits on the frame of the vehicle and I did all four sides of the back end that sits inside the filter housing. Hope this helps.
Oh my gosh thank you so much!! I about reached my breaking point with the rattling today, but adding the foam fixed the issue. I’ve taken that piece off before and it stopped rattling but I thought it was something with the air filter specifically. I owe you one!!
Just wanted to thank you for turning a headache into a 5 min fix! I put rubber washers under the push clips. Clips are tight now and duct can't move. not more noise! thanks again.
Could have been helpful if you showed an example of the rattle sound this fixed. This car is super noisy and I need to know if this fixes a rattle that isn’t the one I’m trying to fix
don't really think a normal mic would pick up much on this one. The plastic resonates against the front of the car and the air box. It is a concerning sound until you figure out what it is. Follows engine RPM... foam stops things from moving around. Nearly all subarus have rattles that are frustrating to track down.
@@stevebrosnac8095 Did you ever find out what it was? I'm thinking my noise is co.ing from the throttle by wire system. Sounds like a ticking valve, but only when you give it very little throttle. Anything more or less and the noise goes away.
@@contact4mwy7 mine does this too, since new (2019 impreza sedan). I was convinced it was the CVT being a piece of shit, but I will try this foam trick and see if it resolves it.
@@kdubkeith I definitely verified my rattle is coming from the throttle body butterfly valve that opens when you press down on the gas pedal. Even after swapping the entire throttle body it still does it. Only under small loads with the throttle lightly pressed. Press more it goes away, lift up a little it goes away. The rattles are in time with the cylinders inhaling. Like the vacuum of air pulls the throttle butterfly open and closed with each intake valve opening. I guess I should put together a video?
@@contact4mwy7 Please do I'd love to check it out. I will take a look at my TB as well, thanks for the tip. Fixed my drivers seat which turned into a rocking chair on me today, let me know if you need help with that LOL. I think there are more than a few quality control issues with our cars...
Hallelujah!!!! I truly appreciate this video as the rattling was driving me absolutely NUTS!!! I put some trim foam down and it solved the issue. The mechanic thought it was the catalytic converter...$2700...window foam...free from old A/C installation. THANK YOU!!!
Had exactly that rattle on my 2018 XV which was driving me mad trying to fix. Thank you so much for your video, I had it fixed in 5 minutes by putting sticky foam strip on all the plastic to plastic faces of the the cover.
Thank you very much you ended my year of rattling noises. Subaru miss diagnosed the noise twice as heat shield damage. After watching your video I bought foam and now my drive is silent. Thank you very much
Thank god, just got my car back from Subaru after a week and they couldn’t even “duplicate” the noise. Don’t understand how cause it’s basically constant at that rpm. This was it
Big thanks. Gonna tell my Subaru dealer tomorrow cause I can't do it myself....Curious to see what they say....Hope it's a fix cause it's just as you say...a chatter on passenger front accelerating tween 20 and 40 mph, then it stops. Gonna tell em to check the heat shields, too. Thanks again.
Thanks a lot, mate!!🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I was absolutely lost with this sound/vibration! I fixed it with foam and replaced the old clips. No more noise at all! Fu****g legend!😃👍🏻
2010 Impreza with acceleration noise. There are many complaints online suggesting differential and bearing noise as the culprit. Because its only under acceleration I assumed the same thing. This ended up being our noise and this is the fix that made it go away. Thank you for sharing!!!
Oh my gosh, I have been trying to find out what that noise was for about a month now. Glad to say this video saved me a trip to Subaru for a diagnosis.
I tried the foam and problem still exists. Took it to dealer and they spent half the day and came to the same conclusion But if you take the intake part off, it still happens .. Has to be something else

Do you have a video where you can hear the sound it makes
I'm just like you lol EVERY DAMN RATTLE. Like a game of clue. I'm got some rattle while I accelerate. Praying it's not the CVT
Okay this is what's happening to my car!!!!!!!!!! Only when at that RPM at low gears

Hey, can you explain how you did it? My Subaru rattles so much

Wow I would have never guessed that's where it was coming from. Sounded similar to exhast heat shields but alot more plasticky. Thanks for the tip

The noise is driving me insane. What kind of foam & where would u put the foam?

Helped me out with my 19’ crosstrek! Thanks much👊🏽
Oh man, this sound plagued my wife's car for the last like 10 years. This finally put an end to it once and for all!
