I really like the fact that Rahdo rates the game if it makes his rating cutoff score. After he said how much he liked this game I checked his BGG profile to see where it landed and sure enough it has been rated. (very nice!). 🙂 Rahdo, please keep eating your veggies so you live to be at least 100.
Played it recently. Very nice game. My fav mechanism is often changing castle card locations. From my first play looks very important to use actions that trigger another action. Still, even in 4 players there was enough things to do, so not much tension. For this reason I think Red Cathedral is better as it has that area majority tension for final scoring
Could you just play with 4 dice per bridge (like in a 3P game)? That might cause the game to lose some of the tension, but that tension is exactly what you are trying to avoid! :)
that is a very interesting idea, but i would worry that it would make gardeners unbalanced agaist soldiers & courtiers since they would lose the threat of not activating multiple times.
My critique is that they don't have tatami mats (why the brown coloring of the floor?) and I doubt that Japanese noblesse ever resided in castles made for defense purposes (they had seperate comfortable palaces). Also the daimyōs wife was hostage in Edo and beauty standard was a cylindrical shape (no victorian style skirts).
that's a good question... hmm... santa maria is probably today the best dice worker placement game (i don't think troyes or roll for the galaxy counts exactly). but actually, roll camera is probably my #1 dice worker placement, so this might make #3!? if so, wow, but it think it might be! as for replacing? i think my lowest ranked dice worker placement game is lorenzo il magnifico, so i guess that one?
@rahdo you mention Santa Maria specifically, do you feel like The Magnificent (as the successor) does not encapsulate everything Santa Maria brings? (just wondering, because I'm interested in buying the Magnificent for saving the theme and setting of the highly praised SM)
@@aleg2490 magnificent is really great and ranks high for me, but its a very different blend of dice worker placement and polyomino tile laying, and if they weren't from the same designer i don't think i'd ever draw a parallel between them
are you sure your not being endorsed by Devir?LOL some of the game mechanic feels unbalanced and some is OP. but the whole mechanic seems good tho, maybe needs to find a way to balanced it first and nerf the OP card/mechanism
devir have definitely been on a roll for the last few years! and i'm generally not one to immediately assume that things are broken or unbalanced after a few plays from folks on boardgamegeek who somehow found issues that weren't revealed by thousands of man-hours of testing :)

i plan to! :)
Red cathedral and White Castle are phenomenal.
At 0:20 you refer to their previous game “White Castle” when I think you meant to say “Red Cathedral”. 🙂
D'oh! :)

I’m REALLY excited to cover this one. Hope it hits retail soon.

What's the box size? Same as Red Cathedral?
yup, and it's packed SUPER TIGHT to get everything in there :)
Great video. What is your Top 3 this year?
it's updating all the time at top.rahdo.com (though you might have to refresh the page a time or two depending on the server load on boardgamegeek) :)
@@rahdo Amazing! Thanks
I played this already and I like it some much that the only thing I hated is that you only get 9 turns (9 turns total!!!)... I needed more...
you should be getting 2 or 3 turns worth of actions out of every turn :)
@@rahdo that is it… but still tempted to force a 4th round and see what happens
give it a try, though i reckon if you do, you'll have deployed all of your meeples and run out of things to do :)
Does not being able to niftily stack dice in 2 player make that player count less interesting?
not even a little bit. we think it's fantastic at 2 as it is.
White castle burgers are delicious!
Looks like you broke their website :)
Rumor has it that people are thinking Rahdo is hyped about a game involving slider burgers.
like if you skip to complaints first 🤓👍
on a more serious side, what dice placement game does this one replace and which is still better for you?

Troyes > this?
troyes is in my top10 of all time, so yup :)
