Walking The Cleveland Way | 110 Miles from Helmsley to Filey

- The Cleveland Way was the second National Trail to be designated in England. It begins in Helmsley, just outside of the Castle. From the market town it then passes the 'Finest View In England' at Sutton Bank, with the Kildale White Horse alongside; crosses the North York Moors near Clay Bank Top and Urra Moor, passing Captain Cooks Monument and summiting Roseberry Topping, before hitting the coast leaving the inland walking behind. Now following the coast, the route traverses the highest cliffs in the east of Yorkshire, weaves in and out of small fishing villages, and passes countless archaeological and geological sites worth marvelling at. There are larger towns along the way, such as Scarborough, and popular tourist destinations like Staithes. Nature makes a strong stand too, with places like the blissful waterfall at Hayburn Wyke, and wild gullies near Runswick Bay, all keeping the trail diverse and varied. All in all, the trail covers 110 miles as it concludes on top of Filey Brigg, right where the Yorkshire Wolds Way begins.
In this video Abbie Barnes walked the trail from end to end, although their itinerary goes a little off when they experiences a bit of a disaster in the middle. It was the kindness of strangers though that kept them hike afloat, and they created memories they hope to never forget.

WOW ABBY!!! You are my #1 Hiker on YT, and trust me, I've seen many Hiking YTers. You are the Best! I believe, I have seen most if all your hiking videos, and no one comes close. There is not a hiking video of yours that I did not like. I love them all equally. I watch you while I am on my treadmill, than I put you on, and than I zone out, by listening to your every word and seeing all the beauty on your hikes. My workout fly's by because all my focus is on your Hike. You are such a great narrator and your videos are perfect. Love the combination of the villages, *Castles, landscape, the sky's, the ocean, flowers, trees, rocks, history and the fossils you found, how lucky. I have always wanted to find a fossil. Runswick bay was lovely when we were there. The whole community came out and we're having a cricket match on the beach. The children were enjoying it while the adults played this is so Yorkshire for me. This what Yorkshire people are. Community. So lovely.

I walked a large part of the Cleveland Way back in 1990 with a friend of mine. It was a great experience. But memories have faded so much that the vast majority of this vid feels completely new to me. Having watched this, I feel I must come back one day to do the bit I misses.

Brings back wonderful memories. My son and I walked the Cleveland Way in September 2018. I've seen a number of videos of the walk but yours seemed to encapsulate the parts that I remember best. I remember well the section where the path follows the Coast to Coast and my abiding memory is of a conveyor belt of people walking that route (we chatted to a couple from Japan) which rather put me of it. I particularly loved your final comment about people setting their own limits without realising what they can do. The looks I get from friends when I tell them I walk 15 to 18 miles a day and the disbelief when I tell them they too could do that.
