    I have a GreenStalk vertical garden that I have been growing in since mid June. My one tip for you is: if you plan to have it out next summer, check how hot the brick below and behind the planter get. I deep fried some bean plants in the lower part of the GreenStalk when our daytime highes got over 100F and made the concrete below my vertical garden over 120F.

    GreenStalk Inventor's daughter here! Steven, thank you for trying out our family invention that we make in Tennessee, your new home state. Just so cool. I hope your expectations get blown away by how efficient our GreenStalk vertical garden is...and how sturdy 🙌👌
    You did an excellent job showing every one how to do a late state fall garden with variety. Excited to see its progress. Tennessee is wonderful! -Ashley Skeen, GreenStalk inventor's daughter

    Hi ! Is there a follow up video on these grow towers? I would love to see the progress. These designs always seem so cool but then never end up panning out at the end. People rarely do follow up videos for these products. Thanks

      Dunno if you still have this question but I’ve watched a ton of videos from gardeners who have these and everyone loves it! Check out Rainbow Gardens videos. She’s grown just about everything under the sun in hers. She has several and she shows planting through harvest in her videos.

      Inventor's daughter here! Is it possible to knock it over? With some serious force (like hurricane force winds), yes. The entire system snaps into place and weighs 120-150lbs when in average use. It isn't your average vertical planter 😎🙌

    Thanks for info! I am in Europe, but I saw Jess from Roots and Refuge using them for strawberries and I wondered how much soil is used, so this was really practical to see. Also to the person who commented about changing the slogan, I don't think it matters if you think the product is good and you also point out the negatives. You didn't have a farm this year and with COVID effecting most of the world's population I don't think anyone has the right to say when it comes to how you earn your money. I have been impressed how effective your techniques are and how much of hard work you have been putting in. You deserve so many more subscribers, I found you through Epic Gardening and it is really nice to see you or 'You Can't Eat the Grass' channel to show the side of farming as a job. Keep going!

    • @NaturesAlwaysRight
      @NaturesAlwaysRight  4 роки тому +5

      Each tier takes 28L (1cu ft) of soil. Strawberries would be great for this. Ya people always find something to complain about, when in reality this is a great solution for a lot of people in small spaces and all the planting tips apply to however you want to grow things vertically.

    I love your content. Keep it up. But I'm pretty sure it's a waste of space to plant winter squash in October, even in zone 7. The frost will kill the plants before they produce. In my experience (zone 5A), it takes from late May until September to produce a good winter squash harvest. Me, I'd have transplanted kale, mustard greens, arugula, and lettuce.
    Remember: you're not in California anymore. I understand. I grew up in the Midwest and lived in CA for years before returning to Ohio. What a difference. We grew crops all year long there, and there is so much sun and so few clouds, which makes growing easy. Back east, not so much.

    • @NaturesAlwaysRight
      @NaturesAlwaysRight  4 роки тому

      Ya I just didn't want to let my friends squash go to waste and it was a great example for thinking about a vining type of plant so this video can have context that makes sense for people watching in a warmer season. Gonna put it in a greenhouse here soon but ya I don't think I'll get fruit. Always had to get winter squash in the ground before July 4th in San Diego.

      @@NaturesAlwaysRight Rock on. And thanks for all your content. I've been thinking of ditching a corporate gig and urban farming. You and Neversink Farms are my two favorite sources of inspiration. The biggest drawback is that there's a long waiting period to get into farmer's markets around us.

  • @classicrocklover5615

    Still on the fence about buying a green stalk. I'm in Michigan, and no plastic thing survives our winters. That means I will have to take inside/outside each year. It's a big pricetag and my ROI probably wouldn't be for 2 to 3 years at least.
    The only thing I could consider is growing indoors, under lights. For outdoors I think I will try winter sowing this year...

    Hello from South Carolina! My family and I recently started a journey to take control of our health, and we're wanting to transform our yard into a garden homestead that can produce a significant portion of our food. We are hoping you'd give us a little help though. We don't know where to begin. I recorded a video tour of our yard, but we want lots of suggestions and advice. Would you take a peek and tell us what you would do with this property if it were up to you? We're asking a few different UA-cam homesteaders, so you, or any of your followers are welcome to offer some suggestions.

    I have a greenstalk but didn’t get the comprehensive instruction pamphlet you got. I’m confused about the watering system. You have to put a LOT of water in very quickly to have ANY go down the middle into even the second tier. Only the top tier gets full water and the rest only get water that’s “trickled down” through the soil in the tiers above. Am I missing something?

    • @murtasma

      I think it came with a plug over the hole in shipping. I've heard many people throw those out but you put the plug in, fill to the line then remove the plug for the water to drain. You could probably find a rubber stopper at the hardware store that would work.

    Since the back of the planter is against the wall, will it be productive back there? With the spinner you can turn it around to get even sunlight. Interesting tower.

    • @NaturesAlwaysRight

      I moved it away from the wall, so if it was summer it would have no problem getting light but since we are going into winter and it's south facing I need to spin it to get light to all cells.
