This just happened to me today while driving my sq5! I was freaked but noticed the engine never overheated and the car drove fine. I had a feeling it was a sensor and I am super glad I saw this! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Filipe. I tried the scratching method that worked for you but it didn't solve my problem. I ordered a new (aftermarket) coolant tank suspecting the contact sensors in the tank were faulty. They were, apparently. Easy replacement and it fixed the problem!! (I needed to use the original filler cap and the bottom rubber washer/bumper from the old tank since the replacement does not include them. Was all ok.) Happy!
Hello, great job! I also suffered on an Audi A6 C7, the first time at 225,000 km. I cleaned the same as you and I passed the test. Everything seems to be ok. Be careful when you open the plug, it is very fragile, with a screwdriver, gently press in the slot under the plug and pull. Clean, as he mentioned, the holes in the plug as well as the blades inside. If you are lucky, it is the cheapest solution. Thanks for the post!! Good luck !!
Just bought a 2013 S5. Today driving I had the same problem. Coolant tank full. Temp gauge normal. Annoying as hell warning. I knew nothing was wrong so thanks for making me aware of that plug. I'll clean it tomorrow. Thanks again very much!
I’ve been having this exact problem the past few days on mine. Can’t wait to try this simple fix! Appreciate you sharing the results of your efforts and helping others saving some maintenance $$
Great job detective! I’m going through the same crap now. I’ve been putting off bringing it to the mechanic. But anytime drive I have hear 3 loud beeps from the warning and it happens like everything 30 minutes. Wish me luck, trying tomorrow
definitely going to try this tomorrow as this just happened to me. temp is completely normal, no fluctuations at all, coolant level is perfect, there are no funny smells, and the car is purring like a kitten. sounds better than ever. but ya, just got that light on my dash and it gave me a scare. but I made it home. I'll definitely be trying this.
I haven't done this yet, but I will first thing in the morning. Thank you for posting this video! You know the Audi Dealership would charge a kidney just to do what you just did lmao
Thanks for this. I'm having the same problem on my A6 that started about 3 months ago. I've had the car for about 6 years now, and the few times that a warning light has come on, it's always been a failing sensor rather than the fault it is trying to warn me about. I think the "Switch off engine" and warning beep is very disturbing when you're travelling up the motorway at 70mph. It could be really distracting for the more nervous driver!!
Exactly what mine had, thank you for the help and saving me hundreds of dollars in the service! Luckily A3 has the plug up top and is very easy to reach.
Good video I have the same issue when my car turns off the fans still running high speed drain my battery I will check the connection like you say see how that go
You can do that as it is always good for the car to change the fluid , I change my fluid every 3 years, take the reservoir and give a good clean and then check the plug.
I have the same problem with my Audi s3 2015. It has just had a new engine replaced and this problem occurred. Showing coolant level low but coolant tank is full. Will try this in morning hopefully it works. If not, then it’s going back to the mech who fit the new engine!
So i ran my car with below minimum antifreeze ( didnt check the levels ) , got home and tank was below half. i refilled it, but now my check coolant warning pops up everytime. and i check the coolant tank and it has a lot of smoke coming out, pls camn anyone help with some suggestions ? its a 2009 Audi A4
Hey bro, i have an audi A4 2009. for some reason the coolant tank is dropping coolant and i get a message saying to turn off the car and check Coolant level. at first i thought i was missing coolant but the issue was that it overheats and coolant starts getting spilled. i removed the tank and cleaned it and topped it off again but i keep getting the message to turn opff the car and check coolant. im fukn pissed off right now. any suggestions or how much it will cost to fix ? ... im getting ready to turn it in for a tesla instead.
My 2017 B9 S5 has the exact same problem. But it looks completely different from this model. Do you know how to change the coolant bottle on this model?
Was your coolant sensor ever leaking? That’s why you have that glue? Mine is currently leaking from the sensor, and I have replaced the coolant tank and it’s still doing the same thing. Should I do the same as you to stop the sensor from leaking? Please let me know!
Hi, mine was not leaking the glue is because the connector tab is broken and the glue holds in place, if the tank is new it should not leak it has to be from somewhere else. Thanks
At the risk of sounding stupid is there a specific method to remove the plug because i cant remove the plug from the reservoir no matter hoe hard i teist and pull. Maybe its just stuck with corrosion. Thanks
thank you for sharing this video. i didnt try it yet but i think its going to help my problem. my problems is kinda different though. when i drive on the highway the engine temperature goes down, really close to the end. and when i stop the car it goes back to normal. if you have any idea what that might be please let me know that you so much.
Had this light turn on engine was over heating no biggie pulled over added coolant then an epc light turned on said shit well that’s gonna be expensive but yesterday when I was driving the light turned off but now this is happening to me so my guess is my Audi has some faulty sensors and gonna have to get them checked definitely trying this fix tho
@@BBSMITTYY no. Found out that the coolant lines were busted and so it leaked. Took me a month for a mechanic to do it bc of the parts are not in my area. Which means I have to order it first before making an appointment to get it done.
I have some similar problem. Coolant lights on, checked coolant level was alright. Then later EPC light on saying not to exceed 4000rpm. After I re-start the engine, the epc light gone. My mechanic helped me to reset the error code. It went well for three weeks. Then same problem happened again. My mechanic reset the error code again. Now another 3 weeks pasted. Same problem happen again. I really don't know whats going on. My mechanic said my car is running fine. But this problem is really annoying. Do you think I can apply the same solution as your video? Thanks a lot
If I was you I would give it a try it doesn't take long and if doesn't work you know is something else, does the temperature gauge moves after the car getting hot?
That stupid wire caused me so much bullshit. It caused EPC and engine light on. I unplugged it, turned the car on and the lights were gone. Bought a new connector because the old one was damaged. EPC and engine light were gone. Came back on again idk why anymore. 2006 Audi A6 4.2L Quattro.

Just topped up with a splash of water to just below the full line. Instant fix! Good video
