Mine with the choke that way doesn't turn off. I have to have it on backwards for it to shutoff
My mother has the same EXACT mower and guess what? Same issue. It was assembled wrong at the factory as well. The recoil nuts were 10mm and the clock spring and choke lever were installed incorrectly. Thanks for your video! No more starting fluid to get Mom's mower going any longer. I wonder how many units left the factory this way? Mom was sick of using starting fluid to get it started and was about ready to drop $400 on a new mower. Thanks to you, she now has a reliable starting mower and $400 still in the bank.

Use a heat gun and see if it opens up.
Good idea, but on this one the problem was the sensor was reversed and somebody had been into it and put it back backwards

Mine has same carburetor but different thermostat. Has one mount on top of muffler and one on side of muffler below top mount. It was missing link from carburetor arn to one on thermostat arm. I think the one I ordered is wrong one because arms do not move freely. I have looked at parts break down and see the correct one but does not list it.
Yah there are a few different designs on the kohler carbs for the auto choke mechanism.

@@mgomez5606 kind of why I don’t like kohlers. However the newer ones carb is like the one in this video and is more straightforward auto choke then the other ones

Yes I had one on wrong also. No quality control when assembly line worker in 🇨🇳 makes $0.10/hr.
On this one I could tell somebody had been into it before. The nuts on the recoil were not 10mm like everything else. They were 7/16 I think, replacements. Because they must of lost the 10mm nuts
Fixing a neighbour's mower that had this issue, I discovered what the issue might be. It's a design flaw that the lever can go too far when it's hot and gets stuck past center.
Here's the evidence. At 4:36 in your video, when the lever was in the wrong position, notice that the little vertical "cold" stop pin is closest to the engine. At 6:01, after you thought you turned the base, the "cold" pin is still closest to the engine! The body didn't actually get turned around, but the lever got released from the stuck position, and is now back where it belongs, on the side towards the front of the mower. I don't yet know if the lever can be pushed over to the front when it's cold, (will have to try it) but I'm thinking of designing some kind of "hot" stop that doesn't let the lever move over to the bad side of the arc.
When I first saw the neighbour's mower, I suggested someone had fussed with the linkage, but he was sure no one had ever put a wrench to it. Now I'm thinking it's a design flaw that the company didn't notice.
had not thought of that . but on this one I could tell somebody had messed with it, as the recoil bolts were not 10mm.
Bad design all together I'm guessing the fixed it later on with a top metal guide brace attached on some I've found.
I have 2 here I'm looking at & the butterfly arms are bent towards the motor area, along with the air filter housing leaning towards the engines, carbs still run but that little linkage below gets iffy.
I also replacing springs it really brings the rpms back to life..
And don't forget the kohlers like 10w30, after oil change n tune up I really turn the rpms up on these motors they like it.
