When I was in TN, they did nothing at all. You were always driving out of your lane because you could never see it under the snow. Besides, most of the paint had worn off anyway. Cheaper name brand filters are just as good, especially Wix and STP. Avoid FRAM. The bottom line, change your oil and filter at no more than 5k miles and it won't matter what filters you use.
My Father purchased a new Ford F100 in 1968,. 240 cubic inch 6 cylinder ,3 speed on the column, basic truck. No power steering,no power brakes. No air conditioning. No radio. The price was around $2000.00

Oh Scotty..HOW DARE someone say you don’t know anything! I’ve turned so many people onto your channel over the years. I think you are a fountain of knowledge! I’ve learned so much from you about cars, when I thought I knew so much already.
More and more I do see a similarity with Stellantis and the British Leyland. Just merge a couple of brands that are well known to have quality problems and other issues. We all know hat happened then in the 70’s to the British auto industry.
I buy the sythentic brand name motor oil including Supertech, I keep my cars 200,000+, change oil and filters every 6000 miles and haven't any problems due to engine wear.
I learned to drive, and my first vehicle was a 1973 Ford F-100 with a 302 and a 3 on the tree. That's when they had the trim models such as the Explorer and Custom. They were the best trucks that I ever had!
Same here but with Mobil1 oil filters. It does well for me. I would do it in the transmission but Lexus/Toyota does that for me. I'm not confident enough to do that job...yet.
The SuperTech brand is produced by Oil companies for Walmart. I have used SuperTech for several years in all my gas powered lawn equip and my Silverado.
Highline Warren company manufactures the motor oil for most major brands. Castorol, Havoline, even Kirkland brand from Costco. See if they make your favorite, then buy one of their off label brands.
Totally agree! Automatics are CRAP, give me a manual any day! Living in Thailand, we have a Toyota Yaris, only 1.2L terrible, CVT EVEN WORSE! Best from Phuket, love your videos, look us up if you visit!
On your Tundra, clean the throttle body. It might be the butterfly valve sticking. I experienced what you were saying, cleaned the throttle body, and now my Tundra takes off with normal throttle input.
@@devenmellorGas treatment, Gumout Regane@3k mile intervals may keep it clean. Mr. Kilmer says most gas is well made while other sites say that when it comes down to the fuel line, injectors, and throttle body most gas is garbage and needs gas treatments.
I don't know if it's a good oil or not. But I have always used Pennzoil. I used it my 1987 Cavalier for 27 years. My late cousin gave me his father's 2000 Camry LE 2.2L. I currently use Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage full Synthetic 5W - 30. So far I've had no problems. The secret of keeping your engine going is maintenance. Changing your oil when it's time too. And that means everytime. Also don't forget the other fluids in your vehicle as well. They are just as important as your oil is. Maintenance is the key.
Any name brand name oil, including Super Tech is fine for proper 5k changes. My oil stop, Walmart, goes between synthetics Pennzoil and Castrol and I haven't had ANY problems. They follow a specific procedure, and never push a new air filter either. Full and correct automatic transmission fluid is critical. Low fluid can reduce pressure on the pressure plates that engage the clutches, and composition of the fluid affects the friction between the plates.
SuperTech and Kirkland (Costcos brand, the one I use) is basically Mag1 (made by Highline Warren). They're known for their truck fleet oils so its good stuff. They are practically namebrand on par with Valvoline.
Both Walmart and Costco source their oil from Warren Oil Company. That is who supplies most of the construction industry oil trucks. Those companies cannot afford to risk heavy equipment engines on inferior oil. Those can easily cost more than an average person's annual income to rebuild. I have used that oil for decades with stellar results.
I like listening to you, Scotty. I have learned so much from you as I found your videos trying to find helpful ideas to help me with my 2009 chevy Silverado 1500 series I bought the end of last year. My husband took care of things for me. But since he was killed, I'm trying to learn and take care of things on my own. You were talking about oil on video. I was wondering if high mileage oil is really good for autos with high mileage. Or is that just a gimmick to get you to buy it? Just was wondering if it was really worth buying and if it would make a difference. I wish I had someone like you around here that would be honest and not try to just take me for my money as I have had one do. My truck has 167,000 miles and I want to do my best to take care of it and didn't know if high mileage oil would be any better than regular oil. Thank you!
I respectfully have to push back a little on the Chrysler 300, I see a ton of them everywhere and everyone I know who’s had one has had it for years and they’ve held up well. 200k+ mi
Those early little broncos with the straight 6 and three on the tree were little tanks. I remember the shifter on the column broke off and we just stuck a broken screwdriver and away we went. I remember my uncle dropped a tree on it we just pounded the roof back out. I remember pulling half and three quarter ton p/u out of the snow. How big the logs we dragged out of the woods. With that short wheelbase the thing would go anywhere. Just almost indestructible little piece of equipment. Oh it was a Bronco 11 not the full size Bronco. It really didn't matter that little thing was awesome.
Never buy a hybrid jeep, since you will go by the beach and the salt water, etc. I would then think that salt and batteries don''t mix, hence a higher probability of a fire.
Im currently testing the valvoline restore and protect line of oil on my vehicles. I'll be posting a video analysis in several months after i have enough data.
The first car that I bought was a 1947 Chevrolet. I bought it from a local mechanic that worked at my local gas station. I paid $50.00 for it. And it ran and drove acceptable for the year of the vehicle. I’ll never forget it.
I use it in my Rav4 and XT5. Its basically Mag1 (made by Highline Warren). Its good stuff. Mag1 is known for their commercial engine oils used in trucks, construction and farming equipment, and other industrial lubricants. I like it because they sell a box of two 5 quart bottles and both cars take the same viscosity and amount so the box covers the two cars.
I use Supertech oil in all my vehicles. It’s made by Havoline which is owned by shell. Never had any problems and have gotten over 250K miles on everything before I sell them. I stick with what works.
Mobil, Pennzoil, Castrol, Motorcraft and Performance Shell. My top 5, in that order. I worked for Valvoline and would only use it if I absolutely had to. In no way would I ever use that SuperCrap stuff from Walmart.
@@kinglangren Good, clean oil is the life of any vehicle. Small price to pay to keep one in top condition. Fluids, filters, brakes and tires are things I will not go cheap on. Vehicles cost too much to not keep them in top notch shape.
@Scotty Kilmer - what happened to the video on Jeep Hybrid and the batteries blowing up? A friend of mine just bought one, and I linked the video, and now THIS video (engine oil) came up. I even went to your page, and could not find the video I watched earlier this week. Did something happen?
If you drain hot trans fluid out then put cold new fluid in--is it the SAME amount. Hot trans fluid expands. Cold fluid has not expanded. Are they =equal.
I always change my oil every 3000 miles. I understand that new synthetic oils can last much longer but i dont care about saving a little money. More is better. My cars have always lasted very long so im not going to change it.
Hiya Scotty love your channel. I have an 04 element and do regular oil changes. I would like to get a transmission drain. Do I have to use Honda oil ? Apparently that's what they say.
If you own a newer Japanese hybrid vehicle you should research Idemitsu Japanese full synthetic motor oil IFG 7 specifically formulated for Japanese hybrid engines. That is the oil I'm going to use in my 2023 Lexus ES300h for the next oil change.
I use it in my Rav4 and XT5. It's Dexos Gen 3 so my Caddy can use it. Its basically Mag1 (made by Highline Warren). Its good stuff. Mag1 is known for their commercial engine oils used in trucks and construction machinery.
Scotty ,I'm James I have a 2011 ford fiesta se 1.6 motor I have valve cover leak..I have changed gasket 3 times and it's still leaking. What to do next Never had this problem on any other car i've ever owned.
I’ve got a sixty eight f100,still runs but I can’t shift gears in it because the bushings are metal on metal at the transmission and I can’t buy any I tried LMC and can’t find the bushings 🤷
You can’t change transmission oil yourself. It’s a closed system and my auto guy messed up my system by doing it wrong. I ended up having to get it towed to Toyota and have them fix it.
Nah man I f*ked up and drained mine by accident and filled it through the dip stick hole with new oil and was fine, so it's not always the case. 95 Toyota Camry though lol mechanic told me to do it and I was like are you sure it won't slip he said nah trust me bro and sure enough it was fine haha
If a mechanic at Toyota USING THE CORRECT TECHNIQUE changes the trans fluid.... so can you if you know the correct technique Correct technique is outlined in a service/workshop manual.....
@@JohnSmith-pl2bkI paid for a drain&fill twice in a two week period because the car was under warranty at 48k miles. 2007 Maxima 3.5l makes this Knocking sound when revving low uphill (1400rpm-1600rmp); Fuel cap says PREMIUM , but I'm using 87 octane. Yall know if switching to 91 would fix the sound? Trans and motor oil has less than 600 miles.
I have a 2007 Camry that has had Mobil-1 since I bought it new. I switched to the high mileage Mobil-1 at 80,000 miles. It now has 300,000+ miles on it and still runs great. Burns a little but no leaks. Starts every time and runs great. Toyota quality or is it the Mobil-1? I say both.
@@JohnSmith-pl2bk Yes, along with all the filters, sparkplugs, transmission fluid, flushed the brake system and the cooling system. Rotated the tires more times than I can count but only had to replace the brake pads once. I did have to replace the coolant pump at around 250,000 miles. My ASE certification comes in handy.

Cars are like the Italian tanks in WW2. One speed forward, five in reverse. And an automatic white flag launcher for the French component.
More and more I do see a similarity with Stellantis and the British Leyland. Just merge a couple of brands that are well known to have quality problems and other issues. We all know hat happened then in the 70’s to the British auto industry.
Castrol is good stuff. Always used it and never had a problem. I used Magnatec for years. Just switched to Edge.
Kirklands Signature Full Synthetic works well for me. Its basically Mag1.
Love the old stories from when vehicles were built half decent and still go down the road today 🙂
I learn in a 78 lincoln versailles with a 302. I now have a 77 with a 351w.
Last car I saw on a tree was on fire, in the winter, it shut off my electricity half the night.
I run Royal Purple on all of my vehicles
Same here but with Mobil1 oil filters. It does well for me.
I would do it in the transmission but Lexus/Toyota does that for me. I'm not confident enough to do that job...yet.
"Satisfaction" by the Stones, everlasting classic, man.
Shame about Holden. Some amazing awesome cars they made.
The SuperTech brand is produced by Oil companies for Walmart. I have used SuperTech for several years in all my gas powered lawn equip and my Silverado.
I change my own oil in my truck and motorcycle. I only use Castrol GTX or Amsoil. Probably the two best oils ever.
I have learned so much from watching your videos and I watch everyday. Thanks.
Supertech synthetic is excellent oil. Just change oil and filters OFTEN!
It's always sad driving past the old Holden factory site here in Adelaide...
GM played Holden dirty, just like Saab, Isuzu and Suzuki and even Opel.
@@nakoma5yeah I'm surprised Scotty didn't mention that, I guess he just doesn't know.
Mobil One High Mileage synthetic stopped my rear main oil seal leak. Now i just have a few small drops a month. 143,000 miles
it is called 3 on the tree
Rotella is awesome I'm sorry Walmart stopped selling the 5 w30 gas truck oil. Better than Pennzoil Platinum. Rotella for the win everytime
Highline Warren company manufactures the motor oil for most major brands. Castorol, Havoline, even Kirkland brand from Costco. See if they make your favorite, then buy one of their off label brands.
Totally agree!

Pennzoil never let me down 😊
Scotty throws down against foolish commenter - love it! 💪
Best oil is Pennzoil had a chevy went 420,000 miles had another went 860,000 always used that oil
Thank you!
The Toyota Trans fluid works better than others.....shifts smoother!
I respectfully have to push back a little on the Chrysler 300, I see a ton of them everywhere and everyone I know who’s had one has had it for years and they’ve held up well. 200k+ mi
Especially the 3.5L
I'm a chevy guy but them 240 300 ford engine.s were the best. Made.
Castrol synthetic oil since 1991.
Your first car was probably a Mercury Monterey, my dad had one with the rear window that went down.

Wow, thanks::: Anyways I have two (2007,& 2015) high miles Vehicles, with VALVOLINE SYNTHETIC…I WILL BE WAITING
The first car that I bought was a 1947 Chevrolet. I bought it from a local mechanic that worked at my local gas station. I paid $50.00 for it. And it ran and drove acceptable for the year of the vehicle. I’ll never forget it.
What does everyone think about Costco Kirkland signature synthetic oil?
LOTS of people use it.
😂😂🍺 great advice as always love from the U.K. 😊
I use Supertech oil in all my vehicles. It’s made by Havoline which is owned by shell. Never had any problems and have gotten over 250K miles on everything before I sell them. I stick with what works.
Super tech is made by Warren Oil Co, the largest independent oil manufacturer in North America.
I've heard SuperTech is made by Warren Lubricants.
It is. Believe they're in Missouri.
And Havoline is a brand name oil made by Chevron.
Walmart supertech synthetic oil ❤
Changing the oil is the easiest way to manage
I'm using chevron oil and chevron fuel. What an idea huh. 68 volvo b18
I love your attitude Scotty.
Trashing Stellantis is hilarious because the worst thing they make are RAM, Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep.

Haven't put engine oil in my truck in over two years
Mobil, Pennzoil, Castrol, Motorcraft and Performance Shell. My top 5, in that order. I worked for Valvoline and would only use it if I absolutely had to. In no way would I ever use that SuperCrap stuff from Walmart.
Very oil sold in usa that has oil retailer seal is legal and safe to use

@Scotty Kilmer - what happened to the video on Jeep Hybrid and the batteries blowing up? A friend of mine just bought one, and I linked the video, and now THIS video (engine oil) came up. I even went to your page, and could not find the video I watched earlier this week. Did something happen?
Holden got screwed over by the management that GM sent over here in Oz. They forced Holden to make and sell cars that we didn't want here!

Yes, use Honda oem. Goto the dealer if you’re not sure where to get it. 🍻

If it meets the ILSAC and API and viscosity requirements for your engine, it's great.
It probably is if nobody has complained.

Scotty I bought a 2020 GMC Sierra 6.2 I can only find 91 octane fuel where I live. Do you recommend any brand of octane booster to help?
Who makes FRAM full synthetic motor oil?? Is it good?
You can’t change transmission oil yourself. It’s a closed system and my auto guy messed up my system by doing it wrong. I ended up having to get it towed to Toyota and have them fix it.
Nah man I f*ked up and drained mine by accident and filled it through the dip stick hole with new oil and was fine, so it's not always the case. 95 Toyota Camry though lol
mechanic told me to do it and I was like are you sure it won't slip he said nah trust me bro and sure enough it was fine haha
If a mechanic at Toyota USING THE CORRECT TECHNIQUE changes the trans fluid....
so can you
if you know the correct technique
Correct technique is outlined in a service/workshop manual.....
