One single thing you can do to help extend the life of your new vehicle is to, change the oil, and filter after the first 500 miles. Never use oil additives. These products can cause damage to the engine by chemically changing the detergents in your oil

Looks like our yard-Matrix/Vibes, Camry's, Highlanders, Lexus's etc. hahaha! My silver-with-a-spoiler 2000 Camry's got one of those Autozone batteries the biggest one that fits! Got that for half the price when I worked there as a commercial driver. Great job for a retired guy! Love ya Scotty-you are one cool customer!
Spot on the battery throwing warning lights galore. Impacted power steering too. Honest mechanic noted bad alternator and old battery. Problem fixed. Don't retire Scotty. What would you do otherwise?
Good advice. Never try to get more than 4 years out of a battery. They can still work but the alternator is being overworked. They cost 4 times as much as a battery!
Sears Diehard Batteries where the best. I never had any issues with them. That's all I used in my life until Sears went out of business. I remember when Interstate Batteries came out they were junk. I believe they have come a long way since the beginning.
Recently did my own oil change for the first time, no big deal the mechanics I took it to tightened it down beyond belief, but after I got it off I saw a frayed belt in my face - knew that wasn't good and took it to the dealer to get replaced and maintenance. Always looking for more tips for longevity!
My 2018 honda acord one day after the battery was five years old. I started it and it said I had no air in two tires. The brakes were out and it said my seatbelts were broken. Put in new battery all problems went away. Boy a car dealer would have sold me all that stuff if I had taken it in. Thanks for your years of service to us.

I haven't seen all your videos so maybe you've mentioned this... When checking tire air pressure make sure it's the correct pressure. The lable in the drivers-side door jam tells the correct air pressure, it's not always 32 lbs. One of my vehicles is 36 lbs, my F-250 is 60 lbs on the front and 80 lbs on the rear. Even when I take my vehicles to Discount Tire for a pressure check (very rare) they get it wrong, everything ends up 32 lbs.
@@zoeyshoots The tire manufacturers recommendations are normally the maximum safe psi for that tire, they understand different vehicles have different safety levels. The vehicle's manufacturer recommendation is the actual safe pressure for that vehicle.
Some of the batteries that are glass at Walmart are made by Johnson controls these are excellent batteries. Pretty much match up with one from AutoZone to make sure it’s a Johnsons control. Walmart gives you a three year coverage, which is one year longer than AutoZone. Plus you’re about $100 cheaper.
Yes, the Walmart batteries are made by Johnson Controls. The price will vary over time because Walmart will change the warranty on the same battery, but still an excellent battery. A better deal yet for Costco members is an Interstate battery with 3 years. Interstate is a distributor and their batteries are made by several different companies: " Interstate Battery markets automotive batteries manufactured by Brookfield Business Partners, Exide Technologies, and others through independent distributors."
And Walmart they have the dates on the batteries so you can pick the freshest battery, not like in the old days when you bought a new battery and then they added the acid, the new batteries come from the factory with the acid in them and batteries start aging as soon as the acid is added to the battery.
I put armourall on my plastic taxi seats. Made them look clean. A guy sat behind me one day and was talking. Had to turn the corner and as I was watching him... he slid right across the seats. One door to the other door. We both just laughed.
You are so right about the battery and power in general. I thought I had a bunch of things wrong like windows not working, instrument problems... I purchased and new battery and a custom built alternator. Everything worked perfectly after that install. I have a '04 Chevy suburban.
He’s never leaving. He’s making more money than he knows what to do with. You should see his real residence. Newport Rhodesia Island estimated at 5.6 mil.
Scotty you are a legend, thank you for sharing very useful information that saves motorists thousands in unnecessary repairs.God bless you and all your family keep up the good work.🙏🙏
I’ve got a ‘91 Camaro with the ol 305. I bought in the summer of 2001 and have used Mobile 1 full synthetic oil and 92 octane. I’ve got 127k miles on it. Every mechanic that’s worked on my car has mentioned they’ve never seen an engine this clean thats this old So there might be something to high octane gas.
Careful wording "cheap gas" make sure you run top tier gas people. Otherwise youll suffer from sludge carbon etc. Pay the extra 7c for shell Sunoco etc. Also. If you have a turbo engine from the factory and live in a hot climate or drive the vehicle hard make sure to consider running mid grade at a minimum to prevent spark knock. Other than that listen to Scotty 100% ❤
Multimeter doesn't work. The battery has what is called a surface charge that gives you an inaccurate reading. You have to load test it to get the real state of the battery.
Concerning tire pressure. Sure the drivers door tag gives a suggested pressure but I like to be more personal, especially if a different quality tire is being used. I use the chalk test. Get one of those large white chalk sticks that kids play with on the sidewalk. Chalk a strip across the tire (outside to inside) covering several lugs, maybe 4" wide then drive several revolutions on payment. Check the strips for wearing off of the chalk. If inflation is correct for tire and weight, the strip will have worn off evenly. If worn off more at center of tire, too much pressure. If worn off more on edges of tire, too little pressure.
Scotty your channel has help us tremendously...thxs. We really appreciate you, because their's not of great mechanics who can explain the issues like you !!!!
Scotty, you're awesome and your enthusiasm in your videos is magnetic and entertaining. I can see why you have 6 million subscribers. Oh, and thanks for teaching us a lot of information along the way too.
Come on Scotty, we all know you’re never going to retire. All the millions of fans of your channel depend on you for help and advice. Plus you’re having way too much fun to retire. Please keep up with the excellent 2 per day videos.I just want to give one more comment. And that is, I personally like when you give your opinion about non-automotive subjects. My favorite topic recently was the subject of wooden windmills. I completely agreed with your viewpoint, all while having a lot of laughs.
Here is one for you.... put a drop or 2 of motor oil on top of the battery posts. The battery posts get lose and the gas vents through the posts. Thats where the corrosion comes from. been doing this for years now. no corrosion.
Extremely thin application of bearing or marine grease. Will last longer than motor oil. Extremely easy to maintain. Chemical interaction with oxygen causes the build-up. The grease suffocates out the oxygen.
I love that human scotty kilmer. Great educational content. I highly recommend his older videos seeing him work on cars step by step. Great videos scotty 2024 strong 💙
I got behind a lady who needs to watch your video. We were going slow through construction. Her right rear tire was so low it left rooves in the road. Idk how she didn't feel that. She went around tight corners after the construction zone. That had to have made the car drive weird at 50mph
Nothing wrong with an AGM if you run and drive the vehicle every day or every other day. They are known to not like being stored for weeks and months on end without being used. I have one that’s 7 plus years old and still doing fine.
Thanks for the video Scotty. My little 2010 Honda civic is doing good. Going to get my battery tested soon. It's still under the 2 yr warranty. If it is going bad , I get a new one!
Walmart the best 3 year replacement Lasted 6.5 years make sure you ck the stick that indicate when the battery was made. For instance it's August so would be 8 24
I have a full set of Sumitomo‘s on my 09 vibe, GT. Suspension is shot I have high mileage cars worth about $2500. Unable to get slightly used tires on eBay very cheap and I’d rather burn through cheap tires and spend $1500-2000 on a new suspension. I just take it easy keep the tires inflated and rotate them when needed
Use oem parts especially for safety equipment and keep your vehicle clean. Scotty those cheapo eBay headlights need to go and give that engine bay a clean. BOTH CARS.
Thank you for the tips Scotty I'm most grateful. I have a 12 year old Toyota Auris 1.6 petrol and have it serviced yearly and thankfully have no issues. I didn't know about the battery tip which I think I need to do something about, the the other tips I pretty much do. The car is still running on the same battery from new and has 105,000 miles on the clock.
@@kaohsiung99 You can run cable for a trickle charge for your car battery or you can have a solar panel in the car and plug it into the cigarette lighter. This will also trickle charge the battery.

One of your best videos yet.
I also visually check my lug nuts. I’ve had two instances where the tire shop overtightened and they broke off
Best car maintenance/repay video I’ve ever seen. Thanks Scotty. Sorry, you cannot retire, we need you 😁
For battery testing just use multimeter. For gasoline use Shell V Power + Nitro helps with removing carbon deposit
Great advice, as always in the past. I am nearing 80 years old. I plan to use your advice for the next 20. Can you please stick around !
Yeah!
I am so glad I found you, Scotty. Thank you.
.
We love you Scotty and thank you for all the great information you have given us over the years
Scotty your channel has help us tremendously...thxs. We really appreciate you, because their's not of great mechanics who can explain the issues like you !!!!
Thank you Scotty!! for your channel, and all your information on vehicle repairs!!!
Service advisors can make a killing on the extras that they try to upsell when taking vehicles into a shop...
Thank you guys for the warnings. Really.
Thank you for the warning.I would NEVER KNOW THAT IF YOU DIDN'T TELL ME. I TRUST EVERYONE WHEN I SHOULDN'T.
Thank you,Mr.Kilmer, for All of the car maintenance information.I greatly appreciate it.

"Once it RAINS, Bald Tires ARE Gonna Slide ALL Over The Place...AND KILL YA!"
(Iconic😂😂😂😂😂😂😂)
Come on Scotty, we all know you’re never going to retire. All the millions of fans of your channel depend on you for help and advice. Plus you’re having way too much fun to retire. Please keep up with the excellent 2 per day videos.I just want to give one more comment. And that is, I personally like when you give your opinion about non-automotive subjects. My favorite topic recently was the subject of wooden windmills. I completely agreed with your viewpoint, all while having a lot of laughs.
I'm going to look for that NOW. Thanks.
Your the Greatest of the greatest of All Scotty, thanks for all that you have taught me things that i didn't even know some of what you taught.
You're not your. Different words. Different meanings.
Thanks Scotty!
I watch you faithfully! Keep the videos coming! Thank you 👏🙌
Thanks Scotty, God Bless.
Just getting ready for winter, your on point. Thanks
Thank you I didn't know that you check the tire pressure when the car is cooled.
Love you Scotty and the people your channel attracts! 🙂
Bought as recommended. My car stars and drives much smoother. Will do this again.
Thank#, same here. Interestingly, I use CRC BATTERY if have etc.
I love that human scotty kilmer. Great educational content. I highly recommend his older videos seeing him work on cars step by step. Great videos scotty 2024 strong 💙
Highle????
Thank You Mr Kilmer 🙏👍
I have had good experience with the Toyota True Start battery in my Toyotas. And I keep the terminals clean.
You cant retire you learned all to me you hero ❤😊
Scotty, you could try the AGM batteries from NAPA. I have had great results using these batteries.
I got behind a lady who needs to watch your video. We were going slow through construction. Her right rear tire was so low it left rooves in the road. Idk how she didn't feel that. She went around tight corners after the construction zone. That had to have made the car drive weird at 50mph
No term limit for Scotty!!! 😂
Nothing wrong with an AGM if you run and drive the vehicle every day or every other day. They are known to not like being stored for weeks and months on end without being used. I have one that’s 7 plus years old and still doing fine.
And if you don't drive it for a good while one of those high tech CTEK battery maintainer will keep it up to snuff
Thanks for the video Scotty. My little 2010 Honda civic is doing good. Going to get my battery tested soon. It's still under the 2 yr warranty. If it is going bad , I get a new one!
Thank you Mr. Kilmer.
I had good luck with Optima ... but they are not immune to Extreme Cold Snaps ... Cold Weather (Freezing) cause liquid batteries to go bad ...
We love you Scotty
This guy is a car king!
Who else loves his intro.. . "Rev up your engine!" Vroooooom!!
Walmart the best 3 year replacement Lasted 6.5 years make sure you ck the stick that indicate when the battery was made. For instance it's August so would be 8 24
Thanks Mr. Kilmer❤
Thankyou Scotty Kilmer for ever never for get👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I am 75, retired twice, still working 30 hrs a week. Never retire early, but if you do stay active!
Ok, I'll say it: we All love you, Scotty, even without the great advice .❤❤❤❤😅
Thank you Scotty. Have a great day.
Use oem parts especially for safety equipment and keep your vehicle clean. Scotty those cheapo eBay headlights need to go and give that engine bay a clean. BOTH CARS.
I had a Toyota battery in my FJ it lasted 14 years!!!!
I always greatly enjoy your very instructive and objective videos, keep on the good work my friend
Get rid of that battery immediatly!!!!!
I wish I could find a Scotty in my area to work on my car.
Thanks for sharing your wisdom scotty
If you're not using the car for a while and it's outside. Get a small solar panel in the car. It will trick card your battery every day.
"trick card" you mean trickle charge, right?
@@kaohsiung99 You can run cable for a trickle charge for your car battery or you can have a solar panel in the car and plug it into the cigarette lighter. This will also trickle charge the battery.
Change the oil, change the transmission fluid, change the air filter. Just doing those three things can make a world of difference.
I changed girlfriends, made a big difference!
Thanks, Scotty. Saving lots of people lots of money.
Very helpful! Thanks!😊
Thankyou so much for saving our life
I bought a Acura from a Honda dealership and they had the wrong sized tires on it. I had no idea until I had a problem.
Thank you Scotty Kilmer
Scotty, please show a close-up of the addatives you reccomend when you for a few seconds so we can read the brands. Your the best!
Sorry Scottie, 2011 civic 240,000 mobil 1 synthetic. Change every 10,000 doesn't burn even a little.
@@jamesmusial9865 what mileage did you start the synthetic? I used synthetic on my 2001 Civic starting at 105K with no problems but have seen but have heard of other cars switch to synthetic with high mileage already and start burning oil.
Your awesome Scotty
