As a man, I can tell you that these shops screw over men too! Our money is just as green! You're better off buying a brand new Corolla/Civic/Mazda 3 under warranty, maintaining it well, and driving it for 20 years
I'm a repair shop and a dealership. We do an inspection of any vehicle prior to putting it up for sale. We offer that report to the customer. We also welcome them to take it somewhere for an inspection too.
Scotty, I can't recall over the past 10 years years of watching that you ever recommend buying a new Toyota, or any other new car. I personally only buy new cars, so there will be a used one for someone to buy In 5 years. Always sell them to family, neighbors, or friends. PS. I only drive 2500 miles per year. Makes them very desirable in the used car market.
Western NY …. They clear the roads so great that you can get away with any tire. Places that get less snow will have less than desirable snow removal and that’s when snow tires matter. I grew up in Western NY.
I was born and raised in western new york, only in the suburbs did they clean the streets good, but in the city a totally different story. You could wait for days. That's why I left, no more snow, no more ridiculous taxes, but I still cheer on the Bills.
You know about the city of Buffalo than I do, I avoid cities. I grew up in Rural Western NY and only got as far as the Rochester/Buffalo burbs in winter. I never saw a better snow removal system in my life. I would get up as early as 3:30sm and the roads would be clear and sanded or Salted (depending on county) and I always had a clear path into work. The only exception was when I worked third shift.. roads were iffy between 10 pm and midnight if the lake effect started after 9 pm.
When I bought my 2020 Toyota Camry LE at the beginning of the year, I paid $25,000 for it. It was in great shape and what sold me on the car was the fact that it had REALLY low miles for a 4 year old car. When I bought it, it had less than 16,700 miles on the odometer. Save for a couple of minor scratches in the paint, the car was practically brand new with that kind of mileage on it. Coming from a Chevy Equinox, it was a much better car than what I had.
Scotty is right on the money, used is the way to go. I have the original sticker from when my 2017 Ram was sold and it was like 58,000 a couple years later I scooped it up for 18,000. Truck was well maintained and almost new as far as looks go, I can't understand why anyone would go and buy a new vehicle when they could get a slightly older one for cheap.
Just replaced my '07 Town & Country with a 2012 for $8000, under 100k miles....now have built in Bluetooth phone connection, backup camera, no rust body, good tires. My '07 needed major sheet metal and frame rust repair, had 190k miles. Was a technician with 22yrs experience and all the tools but disabled, more work than I could handle. Found it on Carfax used site. They are out there
So, how do you 'hire' a mechanic to check a car at the dealer's lot? Who's going to come with you for how much? How many times, how many cars? Does it make any sense at all?
AWD won't get you out of a ditch, you need 4WD with locking hubs. Front wheel drive with studs will get you anywhere, except in VT where you need 4WD with studs because they don't plow the roads there until at least 5 cars have gone off the road.
People are not getting a used RAV4 or Highlander cheaper than a new one. Only if they are dropping $25k cash on a private seller. Toyota has no inventory, which is allowing them to charge more for used cars than for the new ones.
Toyota has a long-standing reputation for quality and dependability, but they have quite a few issues that need fixing. I'm a lifelong Toyota customer, but I won't be buying another one either until I see evidence that these problems are fixed. Mine has 285,000 miles. i put 1 alternator (old one still worked), Brakes (still had life), 1 belt, and ORIGINAL clutch. ☺️🙂💯⚡♥️. Best 😉engine in the 🌍
I recently had to buy a 'new' car (new to me). I shop by the numbers (mileage, year, price) and do the best I can. I do NOT buy until my mechanic says buy. So I brought him a car that I liked and he said no - the coolant was black and there were bubbles in the coolant reservoir. I took it back and said no - saying the coolant was black. The guy looked me in the eye and said, "Coolant is cheap, I'll replace it for free right now. Do we have a deal?" Trust Scotty when he says, "trust no one" - paradox intended.

The Consumer Market is the 1500. They cut corners there but they can’t cut corners on the Business/Commercial Market which is the 2500s and up. They will lose both markets if they do.
I bought a used car from a jaguar dealer outside DC which claimed the car passed all state inspection and so on. Day one it almost got me killed when I could not stop properly at highway speed. Took it to a shop and found out the damn car had almost no break pads left. No wonder people all say used car salesmen are the scumbags and the bottom of the barrel.
Years ago I bought a 5-yo car that had 26k miles on it. That was 18 years ago and that car is still my "daily driver". Honda Accord EX sedan. 223k miles. New cars are a huge waste of money. In addition to the cost of the car, you pay sales tax, doc fees, etc. You also "pay" the speedy depreciation of that new car.

As far as I can tell it's a non interference engine. If that's the case, drive it till it breaks then replace it. With an interference motor, if your belt breaks bye bye engine. I would double check to be sure, but far as I can tell your fine.
Took your advice and went with a Mazda after follwing more of your ideas of trading when the problems start intermittently. 18 Silverado with tranny issues and a sweet smelling exhaust and new noises at start up at 60k. Hope the CX5 non turbo is as good as you recommend
The worst warranty most used dealers give is the Winns Warranty. It literally covers basically nothing but stuff touched by oil. That is it. Then when stuff goes wrong....nothing is covered.
I own a Lincoln Mark Vii, they still sell for them at Auto Zone, O'Reilly, NAPA, and because the 5.0 was used in so many vehicles most the parts are easy to find and inexpensive. I live in an area with slight grades all over. Not much.more than 5% grade. I cant twll you gow many times ive seen all wheel drives spinning all 4 tires and not going any where. My 1999 rav4 couldnt make it up a hill with garbage Michelin hydroedge that my 1993 front drive (with 2" lower kit) integra made it up. The integra had continintal extreme contact dws on it, way superior.
Has Scotty ever talked about Canyon or Colorado in his videos I haven't seen one and I was recently want to check out some of them. Like to know the good bad and the ugly from this chevy and gmc line.
what brand/type of shocks and springs do you suggest for ram 1500 v8
The Chevy 1500s are not bad trucks. I had a 09 Tahoe with the 5.3 V8 4L60 trans with over 207,000 miles before it got totaled. Just don’t get one that was made south of the border.
so glad i got a 2022 tacoma; tried a 2024 out and wasn't impressed. Gen 2 was definitely peak tacoma, gen 3 isn't bad.
I bought a 2012 Honda Accord Special Edition. Great used car
Great Video 👍 Thank You Mr Kilmer 🙏 👍
Scotty I drive a 1999 Toyota Solara 5 speed 327,580 miles on the clock she starts and runs smooth still.
Last time timing belt was replaced was in 2016..
Should I get it replaced soon?
@scottykilmer
As far as I can tell it's a non interference engine. If that's the case, drive it till it breaks then replace it. With an interference motor, if your belt breaks bye bye engine. I would double check to be sure, but far as I can tell your fine.
Every 100k
Took your advice and went with a Mazda after follwing more of your ideas of trading when the problems start intermittently. 18 Silverado with tranny issues and a sweet smelling exhaust and new noises at start up at 60k. Hope the CX5 non turbo is as good as you recommend
Ypu never mentioned your point of video
@Scotty, is the city you are in a “SunDown Town”?
I find the people obsessed with race tend to be the biggest bigots
The best car, must have a manual transmission. You will be happy with it, forever.
2:12 timestamp,
Might have shown me what’s wrong with my automobile.
Thanx Scotty.
Man, I just got an Optum....
The worst warranty most used dealers give is the Winns Warranty. It literally covers basically nothing but stuff touched by oil. That is it. Then when stuff goes wrong....nothing is covered.
To find an honest mechanic, easy by the size of his boat 🚢
Hey Scotty , would you know a GREAT mechanic like yourself in the Asheboro, NC area.? To get a used car checked out before I might buy.
Why would he know of any mechanics in an area he is not familiar with? What a stupid question
Scotty doesn’t answer questions here, that I’ve ever seen. But someone else in your town or close by might know a good mechanic.
Chevy Corvettes are the same way, Huge aftermarket parts supply from all over the country.
I own a Lincoln Mark Vii, they still sell for them at Auto Zone, O'Reilly, NAPA, and because the 5.0 was used in so many vehicles most the parts are easy to find and inexpensive. The only thing that you won't find these stores but you will find online is like the air suspension or any exterior parts.
Who the heck is buying a new Tacoma with a 2.4 liter 4 cyl turbo engine? Who???? I want a 4 Liter non turbo like my 2008 Tacoma had. Not the 3.5 Liter my 2023 has.
2005 Toyota 4-Runner
4.0 v6
138,000 miles
No payments
I’m 53
I never have to worry about anything except regular maintenance.
Aaahhhhhh………. 😉
That's nice...
Why would U have a car payment on a 20 yr old car 😂
that Optima batter is 10000% facts; I got one still made for a 90s mercedes 190E made in WI (literally the only reason why I bought it cause it was made in US. I had them in my legends and witnessed the changed on the yellow tops I loved sooo much for it)
Next episode: Only buy a HONDA!
Big oil and carmakers don’t care for the working stiff.
Scotty never miss‼️🐐
0:12 😂yes you do...
🦅🦅🦅
I thought it was free. I never paid you a penny for any of the advice received.
Wowowowow, at least put all year tires on.
hello Scoty I have a 2010 chrysler 2010 town and county that when on the highway if i make a gentle right turn it starts to howl, i was told this it left side wheel bearing it this correct? Thank You!
First, love your videos !!!
Thanks for all your help Scotty😊
Thomas thanks you, too, Scotty.
Do used car dealerships let you take the car to get looked at before buying?
Not generally.... You need to ask before you leave the lot ... And get a local ASE certified mechanic to look at it, they charge to look it over $200 generally 😊
@@chordsofgratitude2073But it might be the best $200 you will spend especially if the mechanic finds a bad one.
@@chordsofgratitude2073 That's good to know, thank you.
Prince had sweet purple bike
I've seen the junker car scam sitting in the bays at a local shop in my area. He ALWAYS looks busy. . .Can get me in today. . .And then a ridiculous quote for a simple water pump.
I won't buy any vehicle made after 2005.
@scottykilmer, sure wish you’d make house calls, LOL!
Rev up your free to the public
Just buy a used Honda instead ☺️
Wal-Mart's hous batteries are trash, all of them have low quality electrolyte vary little acid. Will not hold charge.
Take hmback and they will tell you it's some other problem with you charging system, on two different vehicles and a travel trailer.
Each system checked out fine. Go figure? All three ! ! !
To stay in line with some of the questions I heard, does the gearing effect speed? 😅
