    Life is about choices, and if you choose to be a dumbass and get something tattooed on your face, don't get mad at other people when they don't want to hire you. Don't get me wrong; I love tattoos. They can make you look like a huge badass. They're also a fantastic way to express your individual style. Still, there's a fine line between badass tattoos and dumbass tattoos.
    If you've already done some of these stupid ass things I'm about to talk about, you're not going to like my opinion. I'm also not talking to you. I'm talking to the guys who are thinking about getting inked. I know dumbass tattoos because I had two (bumblebee and moon). Today I will go over a few tattoo rules you should always follow.
    Before you get inked, think about these things.
    Don't get a tattoo before the age of 21. Don't do it if you're below age 21 because you will regret it. You're impulsive at that age, and your testosterone levels are cranking. You're going to think something is awesome and that you will love it for the rest of your life, but you won't.
    Don't do anything impulsive or spur of the moment. When a tattoo is done right, it's thought out and planned. You have a good story behind something incredible. But if you go out and get one on a whim, that's a recipe for disaster.
    Have a story and meaning. Don't just pick a tattoo off a wall. If there's something that you want, plan and work with the artist or tattoo designer. Think about it so that you have a story when somebody asks you what your tattoo represents. Tattoos are great conversation starters, but if your conversation starts and ends with 'I don't know,' that doesn't work.
    Never on your face, neck, or hands. If you have any tattoos in those places, you will look trashy, and people will not respect you the way you deserve to be respected. Life is not fair; it's the reality. So if you're choosing to put a stamp on your body that lets people know about a horrible decision, don't be mad when they don't want to hire you, date you, or be your friend.
    Tribal tattoos look like white trash. Think of tribal tattoos like the Ed Hardy Affliction version of tattoos. Also, stand-alone bands on your arms make you look white trashy.
    Cute tattoos are not cute. This goes for anything funny as well. If something is funny, getting it tattooed on your body is probably a horrible idea. Although it may be trendy right now, it won't be later.
    No portrait tattoos. Having portraits of your family members, children, and dogs is another horrible idea, even though it has a good meaning.
    No people's names. Never get a tattoo of somebody's name on your body, whether it's a crush, girlfriend, or wife. At some point, these people may not be in your life, and it will be very difficult to explain why you have her name on your body.
    No affiliations with sexual or social groups. Whether or not it's a rainbow flag, a political party, or other symbols identifying as trans or whatever, if you're putting these on your body to identify yourself with a specific group, understand that you're going to alienate a lot of people that don't align with your belief. Even if you don't care, know that you're going to limit and alienate people. Also, you'll have to work extra hard to overcome people's perceptions or ignorance. I'm not saying this to be a dick; I am just letting you know that if you choose to wear your stance, perspective, or belief on your sleeve, people will not always agree with you.
    Reconsider cover-up tattoos. It's not always a good idea to cover a tattoo with something bigger that you may not like later. People get bad tattoos and then think they're going to cover it with something bigger when they could have gotten it removed. Tattoo removal is incredibly effective, and I had two removed because I was embarrassed. I felt like a huge douche with mine, and I didn't love them. It cost me $800 to remove them through a series of treatments.

      This guy has virtually no ink, so his opinion on tattoos should be taken with a grain of salt. Unfortunately, he is projecting his fears of being judged onto his follwers, but most people who should be getting tattoos won't be swayed by the opinons of others anyway, so its fine. I agree with you, and most people who appreciate art and culture would agree with you also.

    1: if you’re getting a tattoo and seeking advice. Make sure it’s from someone with tattoos.
    2: Take the time and make sure it’s something you want on your body, it’s there forever.
    3: Sleep on it and sleep on it until you know it’s what you want.

      this doesn't always apply, every single tattoo I have was a heat of the moment, I'm talking think of an idea, message my artist, turn up the next day and get it done, I don't regret any of my tattoos at all, of course I'd like something different there but that's how everyone feels when they have a sleeve tattoo because they have to look at it every day and it becomes normal pretty fast, I have both my arms done, my hands, torso and some on my face / head, I'm 20 years old, will I regret them in the future? maybe but who cares, live in the moment, not the future

    • @r7calvin
      @r7calvin 5 місяців тому

      Nah, you only need to go by 3 rules:
      1. Find a very experienced and skilled artist in the style you want with an immaculate portfolio where you like every piece they showcase.
      2. Give them a general concept (main subject + the main colors that you want + rough location for the piece) and let them go wild with it in their style.
      3. Trust their wisdom and expertise. If they suggest a particular orientation/placement or certain changes to adapt the design to your body or adding certain flourishes or colors to make it pop, just go with their suggestion. That's the whole point of shelling out for a really good artist with a decade+ of experience.
      But all of this relies on you finding a really great artist whose style you love. And it won't be cheap. If you don't find the right artist, it doesn't work. And no matter how much thought you put into it and how much you try to micromanage a subpar artist, you'll still and up regretting the subpar tattoo eventually.

    Don’t care what people think, this is coming from a guy who was clean and didn’t like tattoos at all and thought they we’re stupid and I actually judged people for it subconsciously, as I matured a little, 22, I started to notice they actually look really good, now I currently have a neck tattoo and a dragon on my left forearm, and plan on feeling in pretty much my whole left side of body myself, just from the two I have now the attention I get from women and looks in general is insane, I strongly believe tattoos actually enhance your experience drastically if they look good of course, Nonetheless, do what you want regardless of what people think, I feel so foolish for ever caring or judging people with tattoos, now I’m one of those people 🤣

  • @doom3crazy
    @doom3crazy Рік тому +29

    I agree with everything on your list except neck and hands. My reasoning behind this is because if you’re someone who’s in pursuit of a body suit(like I am) that mostly covers everywhere but your face. There’s also something to be said about pieces that are entirely cohesive. My first tattoo took 2 years to make. It takes a lot of research to find the correct symbols and the artist's work that matches your style. When deciding on your tattoo, you have to make sure that the symbols mean the right thing and that there are many meaning to one symbol. You should talk to the artist about your vision so he can do the best work possible. Good tattoos don't come cheap so make sure u don't waste money on some bad tattoos.
    For me, it was helpful that I plan my tattoo very precisely. When I was meeting my tattoo artist, I give him some photos and the story behind them. It was so good to know that he has the same vision as you. So you know that he makes the masterpiece that you have wanted.

    Some things I agree with, some I don’t;
    - Portraits CAN look good, but you need to find a talented artist who specializes in portraits. Don’t choose the cheapest artist you can find (that’s also true for any tattoo).
    - I’d say names are alright, but only for immediate blood family (parents, kids), and shouldn’t be the focal point of a tattoo. A friend of mine has her parents names embedded in foliage in a sleeve and it looks pretty good.
    - Tattoos don’t need to have meaning. If it’s a good design, well executed and is place well enough to compliment the lines of the particular body part it’s on, it can be a good enough conversation starter on itself.
    - As much as I agree with face tattoos, workplaces (and the general opinion) have come A LOT more permissive with neck and hand tattoos over the years. I don’t know about other places, but at least in Canada, unless they’re offensive, you can’t be refused employment solely because of your hand/neck/face tattoos.
    - Tribal tattoos aren’t a unique case. DON’T GET A TATTOO BECAUSE IT’S TRENDY. Tribals were a trend and now they look ridiculous. Trend are temporary, tattoos are not.

      @@itsjustice8124 I dare say that that is a deep meaning. As you stated, it's a horror character you really like, that has meaning to it. I guess what I associate "no meaning" is something so far out of left field that is a little weird, i.e. getting a portrait of Yoda on your thigh even though you never even watched a Star Wars movie or cartoon. I know many people who have many tattoos who got them simply because they thought they looked cool, like a bear or wolf. And that makes complete sense, tattoo's are oftenly a reflection of the person wearing them, so having a bear on your arm might reflect the fact that you might be a hunter, love wildlife, or simply just like bears. In the end, I have gotten my tattoos in honor of people close to me that have passed away, but getting a tattoo of a character you like completely makes sense if you think about it.

    Some of my favourite tattoos are the ones I got spur of the moment during some of the best moments of my life
    Every time I look at my skin I’m transported back to the moment I was having such an amazing time I decided to draw the memory permanently into myself
    That outweighs whatever anyone thinks/ people judging you because they’re too reserved or scared to embrace all of life and care too much about what other people think

    When it comes to getting a tattoo your age doesn't matter. What matters is how wise you are when it comes to getting inked. Being 21 isn't going to make you wiser than you were at the age of 18. There are people who are in their 30s and above who are impulsive when it comes to tattoos. They want one, so they go and get the first thing they like. After a year or two, they don't like it. That mistake can be any age. But being 18 doesn't mean you're going to regret your tattoo one day. I know of three people who got inked when they turned 18. Two of them don't regret it, one does. The two that don't regret it are the two that thought about it. They talked to the artist and they took a long time deciding. The one that regrets it was the one who one day went to a tattoo shop and saw something funny and on a whim, got it. He regretted his a year later.
    Getting a tattoo of someone. I'm not going to say don't do it. Just make sure you know the artist can actually make it look good. There are a lot that look bad, but there are also a lot that look good.

But His review sums my self perception about it in this context-- I'm a bit too much a dumbass in those impulsive ways and just looking to 'get something' rather than really have a piece I want on my body.

    they dont always need to have meaning lol, it’s art, art doesn’t always need a backstory to it, it just looks cool as hell, you can also get tattoos if you just have a love for art, not always when someone in your family passes away, or something that happened to u when u were young that stuck with you all these years because it helped you get through struggles and blah blah, , y’all be overthinking tattoos like crazy sometimes lol

    Rule 1: I proved you wrong, got my 1st tattoo at age 18…I’m now 40 and still love it
    You’re SPOT ON with the tribal tattoo though…my ONLY tattoo regret and I have ALOT of tattoos
    Not surprised you were embarrassed by those two tattoos 😂 look like tats an 18 year old girl would have 😂

    Bud you are spot on correct. One thing that wasn't mentioned is deciding on a tat when drunker than a skunk. Thankfully I only have 2 but they were for sure 2 seperate poor choices. In my mid 20s (I'm 44 now) I got a shamrock on each bicep...the only good thing I can say is thankfully I was at least sober enough to get em in a spot where a shirt can cover em. I feel like a Lucky Charms ad with a bax attitude. DON'T DRINK AND GET A TAT

    Well I guess I broke a few of these rules, I got tats at 18, 19, 20, 21, most of them were on impulse like I came up with the idea hours before I got it, I got my neck and a hand tattooed, but personally I get hella compliments on them and they look great also I’m sticking with a style, I like a neo- traditional black and white flash style and I’m patching it in because I’m sorry but I really hate full sleeves, they look cringe as hell it’s like “hey am I tough now”

    Rules about getting tattoos?
    Rule 1: Don't.
    You're a stud, you don't need random permanent markings on your skin from the kid who dropped out of their masters degree in "art history" or something.

      What about if my artist does have a degree in fine art
