✔ DiResta Brass Bell
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- I experimented with spinning a shape on the lathe, I watched some videos and gave it a try making a bell. I will use the bell for another project. • DiResta: Old School Do... Since it was my first time I didn't know what to expect. It ripped at the edge and I had to recover and save it with a extra piece of bronze as the bell's lower edge. The clapper is steel . Two years and still my best subscription on UA-cam !!
Something about these videos puts me at ease. I think it's the raw machine noise. It almost helps me sleep.
Brass gets work hardened easily and even air hardened from just sitting around, making it quite brittle, as you found out. LOL! Try annealing before spinning. Make lines on piece with blue sharpie (both sides), then heat with propane torch just until sharpie lines disappear, then immediately quench in water. This makes it soft like butter and works with copper, aluminum and all non-ferrous metals. Also, coat spinning piece in lard or wax to lubricate spinning tools, makes for a fabulous finish that requires very little polishing. Great first attempt, can't wait to see what's next!
Thank you ! i will try that for sure Thank you !!!
jimmydiresta bla bla blá jimmydiresta.não liga para este cara voçe é fantastico
Around 3AM I told myself, "this is going to be the last DiResta video"...it's 5AM...and that baseball bat video is tempting...
Nick Von Rechinchitt I thought I was the only one!
It's only 12:30, the midnight is still young!
I love this channel because there's rarely any talking in the videos.
Wow a lot of work and craftsmenship goes into making this bell. I didn't realize the hard work it took. Very impressive!
Your projects are like Christmas! Always a joy to watch...thank you
Truly innovative. You fearlessly push the limits of every machine and project. Thank you.
Spectacular. Bell should be in a museum!
Zandroval Yadao Let's wait, it might get there, eventually; along with other genuine Diresta artefacts. ;)
That bell is beautiful. This video is so interesting. Not many people can say 'I made a brass bell '
THE most talented artist on the planet!
I'm having a big binge on all you're videos can't get enough
Nice recovery! The bronze classes it up a lot! Dynamic Design Change...
Come to DiResta's UA-cam, learn to build a friggin' house! Wicked amazing craftsmanship. Much love to you, Jimmy.
I find myself saying out loud, "the guy can make ANYTHING." Serious talent.
At first i was; Holy moly, careful with your latheskills! But then it dawned on me that it was Diresta doing his magic! Love your work! Keep doing what you do best!
Hello,
Thanks to watching you I have set up a small workshop and will try to make some of the easer items. Thanks for the videos they give a lot of pleasure Doug
I love the way you broke the bottom off (accidentally I guess) then proceeded to add a ring to the bottom, which you probably never planned and made it into a real piece of art. Hats off to you again Jimmy, a true master maker. Thanks for sharing and ignore the nob ends, we ain't watching their videos, waiting for new stuff to juice our imaginations.
Thankyou for the love !!
Jimmy, I can't get enough of your videos. I think I've seen them all three to four times. They're so relaxing!
Yes, I concur. They are very relaxing... and inspiring!
Easily my favorite channel on youtube.
Dude there is nothing you can't make. It's unbelievable how much shit you master. Who the hell would even think about making their own bell. You're the man bro
I needed to see this after a long day at work... always a pleasure.
That was amazing to watch! Couldn't take my eyes away. There is no end to your craftsmanship. Thanks for sharing.
Another nice work!
Some people would say that's too much work for a simple bell. Those people would never understand the pleasure to make something with your own hands.
definitely a lot more work than I would have ever expected, great video
much smaller than i was expecting but thats is such a unique method, i always look forward to your videos
I love the fact that when you made a mistake, rather than giving up or starting over, you found a way to fix it and ended up with something even more unique because of it. Awesome video!
Jodi from welding tips and tricks gave this channel a shout out I'm glad I came. You are on hell of a craftsman. Cheers.
Thank you !! He is the best !!
I love the machining work but the tone and ring of that bell is awesome!
Damn. The videos are greatly produced, the projects are amazing... but maybe what surprise me the most is that an author of videos with thousands of views is consistently answering and thanking comments. Great for you, Jimmy. I starting to realise you are kind of an star in the US, but have to say that I didn't know anything about your work. Thanks for sharing all these videos!
hahah thank you !! i read almost all comments!
After watching this I would now like a custom DiResta ride cymbal for my drum set. Thanks.
Thank you Brother! see you tuesday eve?
I'll be watching! I've got a few questions lined up for you.
And I' like a trumpet! great vid man!
Do you know how hard it is to make a proper cymbal? It takes years of careful study and practice to learn how to do it properly. The finishing and grooving work necessary can only be done by hand.
douro20 ehm, ever heard of irony? =P
Jimmy DiResta always makes it look so easy. Even when he hits a problem and has to fix it, it looks like he meant to do that.
You are a master craftsman, Jimmy. I genuinely admire you, your skill and work ethic.
I'm just amazed by the things you create.
так держать! всегда интересные видео и фантастические результаты!
с нетерпением ждем новых видео!
It was very interesting to see the workaround that you created when the brass tore apart!
I have watched every one of your videos and honestly there's just not enough. I could watch these every day for the rest of my life. If I could have half of your talent (and creativity) I would waste every penny building a shop to do what you do. Well done brother.
When you think about it, it's amazing how much work and knowledge of machinists techniques has to go into making something like this. Factories automate an amazing amount of man hours.
I need one of these Brass Bell to wake me up in the morning!!
Absolutely fabulous. keep them coming Jimmy.
Much better than my attempts at spinning. I'll have to give it another shot.
Невероятно!! У автора золотые руки 👍👍👍👏
Once again the bar is raised. Nice work as always.
Crazy cool craftsmanship!
Don't stop there, Jimmy... DiResta Cymbals!
Great job as always.
I thought the same when he started forming the bell. LOL.
I was trying to figure out how you´d hog all the material from the first turn. Then I thought it was a mold...then when I saw the brass disc I had to go get my brains in the back of the room.
Amazing. Never knew one could do that.
Good thing is I just put my old grandpa´s lathe back together.
Cheers!
Просто потрясающее видео. Автор несомненный талант.
Somebody may have mentioned this, but use an acetylene torch and charcoal (soot) the brass, aluminum, copper etc. and heat until the soot just disappears. Quench and start work. This makes the non-ferrous metal easy to work with as the material work-hardens. Great job, I always love your videos and I think your lathe is the same age as mine (1938). Quality craftsmanship lasts forever. Never mind the trolls. Rob
how many skills can 1 guy have!
way to go!
like always👍
In The Netherlands we would say jimmy is de man die alles kan! (the man who can do everything)
Reinventing the brass bell you go Jimmy !
Nice recovery! I enjoy the videos of your work, keep them coming.
I dont comment that much on youtube videos but i think its amazing that I see the same people all the time on all the different chanels i subscribe to......peace my brothers
That...was...awesome! I've never turned metal, and that was a cool experiment to watch. Nice fix with the addition of the bronze ring!
Bell sounds great! Thanks, Bill.
Never disappointing. Nope, never. Great work, as always !
That is the most adorable and wonderful sounding bell :)
Looking to buy a lathe with a couple of friends.
Watching this video really shows the possibilities a lathe can have for us building Choppers.
I just realized watching this video i can make my own Velocity Stack for the carburetors.
Great video and keep up the good work
/ A fan from cold ass Sweden
Your are super talented! Thanks for showing me a very cool way of making a bell!
I have to say, this is really nicely done. Awesome techniques!
Jimmy's videos are mesmerizing and relaxing to watch. Love them! Keep up the great work.
'K just pulled up and B4 I park; "KUDOS CUZ I KNOW THIS IS GONNA B GREAT.....I'VE BEEN WAITING . THANK YOU JIMMY!
This reminded me of using a potter's wheel: the problem is always in front of you, and the pot always turns out smaller than you had planned. But no matter what, I learn something useful from every one of your videos. Thanks!
Holy shit, I am so glad youtube sent me here, these videos are epic.
Your work is amazing. You are sooo talented; watching your videos always leaves me speechless.
With that kind of work on those lathe knobs, you must have been the Etch-A-Sketch master man
Fascinating process! Great videography, too!
Toujours des idées fantastiques et qui sont réalisées, en apparence, si facilement. Il faut beaucoup de maîtrise pour façonner tous vos travaux que j'ai tous visualises. Encore bravo!!!
One day you learn how something is made. Fantastic!
Sounded awesome! This is my new favorite channel.
The bronze makes it pop. Great save!
You are amazing jimmy. Never missed your show :-) !! Keep up the good work
Awesome build, Jimmy! Really impressive craftsmanship. The bell looks beautiful!
Gorgeous! Great to watch as ever, plus 'every time a bell rings an angel gets it's wings' Thanks for the vid :)
i have no intention to make a bell, but i couldn't help but to watch this whole video. (of course,if i had that equipment,i'd probably try to make a bell!)
...and to think- it only took you 10 minutes & 14 seconds to make that beautiful little bell!
Now all you need is some chinese knock off Gucci purses, Tampa Bay hats and an Indian guy behind a counter and you've got a badass corner store! Really neat build!
WOW! Another great video... You always blow my mind!
Only one word: Masterpiece
Great video as usual jimmy, I just wanted to say you were the main reason I started making videos for my own channel. Thanks for the great content!
parabens his work with metal is simply wonderful whimsical and perfect
Man I love your work, style the way you make it. Keep the good work.
Great respect Jimmy DiResta
Greetings from Croatia
One of the best yet!
Love this video, especially that brass/bell forming process. Very interesting... thanks!
For me You are a true artist!
i love how the slow motion cuts are the "badass segments"
you are a complete genius
Something so simple yet so beautiful. Well done my friend you have inspired this one.
Hell now I have to get my hands on a lathe now. Great video.
I was surprised that it had such a nice tone to it after the brazing addition... Not sure why, I just had the thought that the dissimilar metals would work against each other at the junction. Very nice work sir. I enjoy watching your videos and then going out and making something... Doesn't have to even be the same type of thing- you're just a good inspiration for Making. Thank you.
Thanks, Jimmy…I could see a set of cymbals being made that way too. I might try that on my little wood lathe with a wood form.
Amazing work! Really enjoy watching you create wonderful things from metal.
As always your videos amazes me!!! I cant stop watching them... Congrats on all of your works and best regards from Brazil!!!
Awesome video as usual Jimmy! Thank you for taking the time to create videos and you inspire us all!
Now this is what my first apprenticeship was about. I am a trained metalspinner (that hasn't worked in that job for like... 18 years) and i am surprised this worked out as well as it did in the end :)
Kudos for that :)
One tip to avoid scoring: Keep the tool polished and use some grease. My old boss in my apprenticeship used a mix of 2/3 to 3/4 tallow and the rest a quite viscose machine oil. :) messy as hell but holds fine on the metal.
So flawless
much bell
very wow!!
keep up the real good work jimmy!
Fabulous! I am in awe! Impressive.
Good work jimmy , is great to see how you use so different skills in so master level, i always learn something, thanks a lot for your videos.
Wow extremely impressive work! Well Done.
Gran trabajo, y gracias por compartirlo....Spain
Brazilian bossa nova! Keep up the good work, Jimmy! You have a gracious talent and one even bigger heart to share your knowledge with us. Regards from Brazil :)
Cool very awesome made me feel better about stuff for some reason i think it's kind of relaxing
