Roche Harbor! Yes, much better than Friday Harbor. Thanks you for your videos guys. I am a displaced Seattleite living in Connecticut for the last nine years and your videos take me back to all the wonderful places I visited as a youth...and also as a fine young boater from Seattle. Well, Kirkland to be more specific. I have very fond memories of Roche. When I was about 9, I waited about 10 minutes to call my mother from a pay phone at the store to let her know I had arrived safely with my father. This big man on the phone in front of me seemed to talk forever. Once he was done, he turned around and looked at me, asked me who I wanted to call, and stuck about fifty cents worth of dimes in that phone so I could call her. He just smiled and walked away. I didn't know who he was but later came to find out he was John Wayne. I also had the great fortune of meeting Johnny Carson while he was on his yacht. It was about a few months before he died. My brother got married there in the garden in front of the Haro Hotel. So, keep up your videos...they are a great reminder of how beautiful Seattle, and its surrounding islands are.
Kyle Evans how cool, John Wayne and Johnny Carson! Our first summer in Seattle when we came to Roche, there was a mega yacht out at the end that we were admiring. Later while talking to folks at Rosario Marina on Orcas we learned that it was Steven Tyler relaxing after a concert at the Gorge. We kicked ourselves because if we had hung around the dock long enough we probably would’ve seen him. He apparently likes the fish market on the dock there.
The San Juan's are magical! I have a hundred stories about them. If you haven't already...Jones Island is another great anchorage. I was rafted up to my best friends Chris Craft, having my feet rubbed for $10 by his nine-year-old daughter and her best friend, when we heard that Princess Dianna had died. I will always remember that day. I know that sounds weird...but they just wanted some money for the rest of the trip and it was so innocent. Next story...I had my boat up there with my friend from Wisconsin, who was on his little 24 footer with his new girlfriend. We were anchored in Wescott Bay and heard that the killer whales were out and playing. I got them all on my boat and we motored out there. Once we saw the whales, I cut the engines, and we drifted. The whales swam right up to the boat and one big male turned upside down and swam right up against my hull. The girls onboard flipped out! It was about the most awesome sight I had seen.
Sorry to hear about Sandy. It is always hard to say good by when that time is here. We just lost one of our dogs to old age, but in the end we had to love him enough to do what was right and show him the love he had given us all these years. Good luck to you and Sandy. Thank you for allowing us to share in your adventures. You are living my dream. Looking forward to more voyages.
I'm so sorry to hear the news about your beautiful fur-baby. I too am a cancer warrior and want you both to know how much joy your videos give me. My dream is to one day own a Nordhavn '56 motor-sailor. But in the meantime, thank you both so much for sharing your lives with us! It means so much.
Happy holidays to the crew of Freedom! My wife and I visited Roche Harbor on a sailing trip when she was pregnant with our daughter. This video brought back that happy memory from 30 years ago, keep them coming. Sorry to hear about Sandy, she is a beautiful dog and lucky to have you two to care for her to the end.
The long and the short of it is.... You guys are very lucky. In Connecticut, you have to pull your boat out of the water every winter because it ices up. In Seattle, you don't! I miss that!!! Keep up the videos. Keep adventuring! Your boat is beautiful.
Colors and lowering the flag and Taps with a fire of a cannon so cool at Roche Harbor. And all the boat horns honking afterwards so memorable I always miss it
Great memories for my wife and I. We used to frequent Roche on our 40’ Express from Pt Roberts, WA. Highly recommend Deer Harbour as well, if you have never been. We have since transferred to the East and now boat on the Great Lakes. Sure miss the mountains, whales and 12 months of boating a year!
John Wayne used to spend many a summer night there... I think his boat was named? Mother or Wild Goose (Long time ago) ... I Used to visit as a kid via boat. I sunk a sailboat only miles to the north of RH back in 1982’. So, do they still fire off a cannon every night? Usually, I fly in... runways hasn’t changed because I recall the hump on the middle.. I used to fly into RH while we had to scare off the wildlife with real low approach.. then land... RH sure has changed since I was there last. Thank You for letting us join you on thesis adventure... on a side note...
Batteries dead in headsets... checklist! I had them drilled into me as a pilot and my wife has become a fan. She's created a pre-departure checklist for many different occasions. Charge headsets could be on the list with provisions, turn down thermostat at home, stop mail, check engine oil...
I have the pleasure of working out at Roche Harbor 5-7 days per week. Not with the marina but for my yacht service company. It is amazing how quiet it gets the week after labor day and pretty much right up to when the first rendezvous start in April. I keep my 28' Chris Craft at the marina from October through May and yes the cost is not very much even with power. From May to September I use a mooring or many others just anchor out in the harbor. Great drone shots of the marina and resort! Which drone to you have?
Had an opportunity to travel from Australia to experience Roche Harbour whilst on a motor yacht from Seattle to Juneau. It certainly made an impact on my memory. Love your videos - covet your boat!
What a great video you guys. My heart breaks for your diagnosis of Sandy. We love our yellow lab Ranger to the moon and back. Enjoy EVERY moment and memory with her. She is such a sweet girl. So glad you had a great Thanksgiving in my favorite port in the San Juans. Happy Holidays ❤️🎄
Tank you guys for great video’s......I am chasing my dream, which is a 47ft Tradwinds. I love it, and would have given anything to be on the boat during the holiday. Instead I was recovering from surgery. But next holiday will be on the boat. Your video’s and story is so addicting.....Thanks again
Happy Thanksgiving from SLO! -- A few years ago we were on San Juan Island visiting friends who retired there (what a place). We ended up deciding to spurge and take the float plane to Seattle which picked us up right at the end of that dock in Roche Harbor. Thanks for sharing your day with us, it looked spectacular! PS My wife actually does do some world famous cranberry sauce made from scratch. I love the canned stuff but I'm now a changed man!
OK, I made it; have binged all your videos and they were great. The drone shots and editing are top notch. I guess the winter will be a slow stretch but looking forward to next year as my boating is done vicariously through you guys. Looks like you had a great Thanksgiving on board.
So very sorry to hear about Sandy, as I’ve had a couple of retrievers. So glad to see you are die hard boaters and don’t let that temperature slow you guys down!!!
As always, love you videos. Brings back so many memories for me growing up on the water. Happy Thanksgiving. Don’t forget to put a date on your ornament. That way you’ll always remember. Something I do when I get an ornament from someplace special.
Happy Thanksgiving guys you'll make it shawn don't stress over it and far as the cranberry sauce leave leaves the can out so you'll see it there and won't forget it
I’m so sorry to hear about Sandy! Enjoy your time w her! So Shawn are you the cook in the family? I am, wife and I have a “backwards” relationship! I do the cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. she does the pool maintenance, electrical and other maintenance on the house and cars. She has so many tools! It works well! Btw Elizabeth if you think 35kt winds are bad, spend some time in KS or OK, that’s a normal day there! Lol🤣🤣🤣🤣 I did one of my check rides in 40kt winds! We used to have fun flying backwards in the wind! Students couldn’t believe it when I showed them!
Thanks so much for the wonderful footage Roche Harbor one of my all-time favorites. I can't believe how much it's changed and grown up the hill. Do you live on the boat full time? Curious if the old boat next to you was the Westerly? It looks so familiar.
charlie cruzen we hear you, most of those homes weren’t here when we moved here in 2014 so it’s booming alright. We don’t live aboard yet but hope to in the near future. And yes I believe the boat next to us was the Westerly!
Let's see if I've got this straight. A few episodes ago I watched Elizabeth change the oil. Now I witnessed Shawn prepare a delicious Thanksgiving Dinner. My chauvinistic world has just been turned upside down. Please say this was just an editing room mishap. I have to go call my therapist.
Sorry if you answered this before but i just started watching. I saw one clip where you're running PredictWind while you're under way. Can you tell me how that is done, can i assume you have a cell booster or can you tell me how you decided to implement WiFi on Freedom and do you use it under way?
Sorry to hear about your dog. What is it with dogs with cancer and cats with kidney disease and diabetes? My dog came down with cancer in his snout, my mom has had three dogs with cancer, my sister had one, several friends had dogs with cancer, several friends had dogs with hip dysplasia so bad they couldn't stand up. My dad's cat had diabetes, several friends have had cats with kidney disease. Is it the food we feed them or what?
dgeorge852 that’s SUCH a great question!!! It’s got to be the food or maybe the host of vaccines we have to give them. Def something I think I’ll research because I’ve not known a dog in my life to die of anything but cancer.

I enjoyed this video a lot, and I’m a big fan of Roche Harbor. Great work on dinner Shawn, and as usual Elizabeth fine job on the video.

Brilliant video guys and have good one 🇬🇧
we live on Cape Cod, and out Cranberry sauce comes from Cranberries we pick....
.... and yet, we forget it some, years, too!
Yorkshire pudding to go with the roast turkey. You only need flour, eggs, oil/fat and water to make the batter.

Diner looked wonderful, and nothing beats a toasted "Turkey/Stuffing/Cranberry/with Mayo" sandwich the next day...yum yum!
Hey guys, magnificent way to celebrate your Thanks Giving weekend. Well done
MVFREEDOM,,, Happy Hollidays and God bless .
They used to sell Robitussin with codeine over the counter.
Codeine is a cough suppressant.
Nice video guys
Another great video! Thanks for sharing your boat life with us. Happy Thanksgiving.
Nice to see you celebrating on the boat with a traditional meal. Cheers!
As always, love you videos. Brings back so many memories for me growing up on the water. Happy Thanksgiving. Don’t forget to put a date on your ornament. That way you’ll always remember. Something I do when I get an ornament from someplace special.
Jason Pendleton thanks that’s a great suggestion so we’ll always remember when we enjoyed these times!
Happy Thanksgiving to all 😁🦃
Nice community
A MAN COLD 😩😩😩
Robert Meyer those are the worst kind!
You know what they say, if the boat is a rockin, don't come a knockin!
Wonderful meal, thanks!!!!!
Love this channel. Happy Holidays guys!
Happy Thanksgiving guys you'll make it shawn don't stress over it and far as the cranberry sauce leave leaves the can out so you'll see it there and won't forget it
Love the dog. Happy holidays!
How can people dislike your vids?
It was so cold this weekend! So surprised when we got up this morning and it was in the upper 30s!
MV Conundrum yes and adding that wind was a bit extra special!

Have you had an opportunity to checkout English camp garrison bay? Its always been a favorite of mine when I visit San Juan island.
Red89GT yes we’ve been there but haven’t anchored yet. Maybe next summer!

👍 Curious what Drone and video editing software you like?
Tuna Loco we use the Mavic Air and Final Cut Pro X. They do the trick, although we’d love a Mavic Pro someday.
We forgot to set the cranberry sauce on the table, but I am the only one that looks forward to it.
Sorry if you answered this before but i just started watching. I saw one clip where you're running PredictWind while you're under way. Can you tell me how that is done, can i assume you have a cell booster or can you tell me how you decided to implement WiFi on Freedom and do you use it under way?
Roche Harbour is just weird. Wild foxes running around and signs saying “no minors out after 11 pm”. Great food and gardens I must say.
Ferrero Rocher! 👌
You guys " do it right "
I got a canoe, a peanut butter sandwich and a warm beer...the chips fell in the water and wrecked the whole feast
I may have to crash your next thanksgiving
Can you tell me how many engine hours were on your vessel at purchase?
Have you or are you in the future going to cruise up to alaska?
Yes hoping summer 2020 to SE Alaska!
No heat on the boat? Why is everyone freezing indoors?
It was frigid outside and when Mrs. Cap gets cold and puts the hat on, it doesn't usually come off. Boat is warm.
Where did you find "Wine in a can"?
Bill rouleau most grocery stores, liquor/wine stores and Target 👍
@@mvfreedom Not in UTAH, this dumb state is way behind the times!
Sorry to hear about your dog.
What is it with dogs with cancer and cats with kidney disease and diabetes?
My dog came down with cancer in his snout, my mom has had three dogs with cancer, my sister had one, several friends had dogs with cancer, several friends had dogs with hip dysplasia so bad they couldn't stand up.

how often do you see your parents? in-laws?
Shawn sees his parents a lot since he flies to MKE for work a lot, I see them all several times a year.
Oh god I need an oven
i would marry Elizabeth's mother sight unseen.
Dunking a burger in coffee?!?! 🤢
French dip....I hope anyway!
