Approaching La Conner from the south, the channel goes right by Goat Island, site of Fort Whitman and Battery Harrison. This little known fort supplemented the 19th century Triangle of Fire forts of Casey, Worden and Flagler by guarding the approach to Puget Sound through Deception Pass. By dinghy, you can explore this completely abandoned and rarely visited fort.
Thanks for the tour of La Conner; I was there recently myself. The area on the other side of the channel from La Conner is the Swinomish Reservation; all the crab pots there belong to native fishermen. The three picnic shelters with the roofs that look like native hats are really cool.
Hi guy’s, seems the pups have really taken to one another and they are really taken care of,so nice to see. That’s quite the journey you have embarked on. Have a great time an enjoy each other. Take care and fair seas.
Hey guys, liked this episode a lot - learning more about navigation planning (can't beat via way points!) and some of the current technologies available. Good stuff.
I see you guys still have your Christmas wreath up. And my wife is giving me grief for still leaving our Christmas lights on each night. I say leave them going till the end of January. Anyone still with me?
OMG....Gotta go to Nasty Jacks. In my man cave I have my University memorabilia and lots of aircraft pictures and hanging. I want one of those airplanes that are hanging from the ceiling at Nasty Jacks! Thanks for sharing that place. It's on my to-visit list now!
this was a great video... loved seeing the route planning. That's great stuff. Different from the usual Explore town. Very much enjoyed that part of the boat.
Well, when this crazy pandemic is over, you have given my wife and I some great ideas on places to visit. Coming from eastern Canada to visit my sister in Lynnwood. A good day trip by car would be to cross on the ferry to Whidbey island. Pop over to Langley, then North on the island to Fidalgo island and then down to La Connor. Looks like a scenic drive with a lot of in between stop offs. Thanks for showing us these places, giving us something to look forward to👍.
We use a Raymarine chart plotter and an IPAD for navigation. However would love to hear which windows/mac navigation software you use as well as how you get it connect to your autopilot. Thanks!
Thanks for the great tour. We are bringing our floating home your way this spring/summer on our way north and look forward to hitting manny of the areas you have shown. Hope to run into you two someday. Cheers from M/V Slow Dance (KK Whaleback)
Enjoyed seeing how you created your route on this, and also sharing how you plan to leave dock... you guys should consider offering day charters: your customers would be in good hands.
Having plotted and run up and down the east coast many times and being mentored by some brilliant lifetime captains, some who have since passed one thing these captains were adamant about when traveling during times of the year with short daylight was leave at first light. I don’t have an issue with your departure time or planning your trip but with all the debris ( I’d call it a bit more than debris and more like serious hazards floating about in the waters ) and never traveled to that destination you might want to consider leaving a bit earlier. What your planning doesn’t account for are those one off days when something goes wrong and you.need to slow or stop the boat to resolve the issue. I guess with a boat your size thats not limited to places you can pull into if need be it’s not as bad when running larger boats limited marinas to stop at. I wouldn’t want to be In the dark with all that debris floating about. Love your channel and the information you share. Be careful and think about starting just a bit earlier to allow for anything unexpected. One day you will thank yourself. Thank you for taking the time to share with us.
I NEVER WHERE YOU BUT WOULD LIKE TOO. AT LEAST THE WEATHEER IS GOOD FOR YOUR TRAVELS. be careful and looking forward to seeing the resort you arrive at. Now i always enjoy seeing what you do and where you go. keep safe
Happy New Year! Great to see you guys out and about. I really like the American tugs, lot's of nifty ideas incorporated into them to make the most of the hull length, although the Helm station is not as nice as a Nordhavn! Good job talking about the route planning and your undocking strategy.
Looks like programming a Flight Managing Computer , luky you don't have to calculate the feul consumption on this trip . Greetings from the Netherlands
Debris and darkness don't mix. Just like flying, y'all need to have a Plan B AND a Plan C. Your route planning continues to improve, keep up the practice, and you'll have it figured out.
Dang, it is so nice up there. I am so used to the desert that when I see green trees, water, and clouds I get really excited to go see it for myself. And to do it by boat, well you 4 are blessed. Like I said on your last video, my Little sister and her husband spent Christmas there and she said it was so beautiful even if it did snow a bunch. Given that they live upstream at Gold Beach OR, to me it says something. Thank you for the nav lesson. Very cool. Also and last, it is good to see Cap'n Sully and Miss Martha hitting it off so well. Have fun and be safe. Thank you.
Thank you guys, the north pacific coast is very amasing , and so you are, however, try to put a wind breaker to your mic when you're filming outside especially by a windy days.
hey guys, another great video! The wife and I live in Semiahmoo and have a boat here as well, would have been great to meet you guys when you were here!
Shawn’s not a 2 year old, he’s just a “guy”….😂. Any “guy”would have played with that bathroom door! Also Shawn going over the route planning was really interesting. It explains why you guys leave when you do.
Hi ! Glad your back and love your channel. I am looking to get my Captains OUPV license. Did you do an online course ? Would you recommend where you got yours ? Thanks and safe travels
Great video and like many others I liked the route planning section best. Great demo. Was just wondering which software it is that you are using ? And I assume you were running this on a PC, but after the planning do you transfer the route to your plotter or do you couple the AP to the computer in one way or another. Very curious to find out. Thanks and safe travels.
First rule of living aboard- no 'venting' in shared space (Shawn). Very brave of you two venturing north in December but I look forward to hearing about the Semiahmoo weather. It wasn't great up here! Hello from the other side of Boundary Bay.
Thanks for the great content. Every time I watch the two of you I want to get a "new to me" boat! I actually live near Semiahmoo and hope to be moored there in the nearish future! Be safe and keep up the amazing content! (BTW the show did get a little thick that weekend lol).
In Flor-ida tides and currents are very tame…. Until… Way more vitamin D in our neck of the water-woods than the GNW… just be mindful of Big H Season… good time to be on the hard for a month… (Oct)… then off to enjoy clear blue water in the Bahamas Mon! 😎👍
While adding a stern thruster is generally straight forward our boat is more challenging due to the transom design and no offered protection from lack of a swim step overhang, so we’ll likely refrain from adding one.
Great tour of some great little towns. Glad to see you back broadcasting.
Those Pub fries looked awesome. Sunday morning coffee is much better with MVFREEDOMSEATTLE
Always watched you guys but since you came back to you tube I feel you are more relaxed and we are seeing your natural sense of humour. Great video.
The route-planning part was very very interesting :) thank you for sharing
Great video on planning a passage! thanks! always great episode with the Freedom crew! be safe! 👍👍👊👊🛥🛥
Great travel video. Thanks for the lesson on route planning.
Really enjoyed the route planning education.
Agreed!
really enjoy the route planning and docking education. Would love to see more of this as it helps us all learn.
loved the plot charter course, yall are AWESOME as always!!!!!
Nice demo of the Chart Plotter and setting up a "track" .. thanks, Capt. Shawn.
Really liked the route planning detail on this one!
Found the route planning explanation interesting.

A man with a plan......good crew drills
Loved the technical route planning thank you. Fart joke as well from one 52 year old going on 2.

I love the door! You gotta embrace the joy wherever you find it!!
Awesome video today guys, I especially liked the chart plotting tutorial.
I miss the Q&A section, but welcome back. Happy New Year.
Great segment on route planning! I loved LaConner and Nasty Jacks Antiques. Lots of hidden treasures there.
Appreciate the route planning segment.
Ah! Sunday morning and a new vid drops from MV Freedom. I feel like everything is back to normal.
Hi guy’s, seems the pups have really taken to one another and they are really taken care of,so nice to see. That’s quite the journey you have embarked on. Have a great time an enjoy each other. Take care and fair seas.
Semi is just across from White Rock where I spent my Youth. Love that bay!
The pups are so cute
Hey guys, liked this episode a lot - learning more about navigation planning (can't beat via way points!) and some of the current technologies available. Good stuff.
Thank You Elizabeth for your tour! So Interesting!
Absolutely lovely vessel.
Thanks for the route planning segment.
Love the video
specially the passage planning and the casting off part.
Keep them coming
take care captains!
stay safe
Really enjoyed this video. Found the course plotting very interesting. Thank you so much.
Love the instruction on route planning! I’ve always been curious about how that is done. Hope you guys had a great holiday!
Love this video, love how you describe the ports you stop at in such a positive manner. And, so interesting to see what goes into the “Plan”.
I see you guys still have your Christmas wreath up. And my wife is giving me grief for still leaving our Christmas lights on each night. I say leave them going till the end of January. Anyone still with me?
We do the lights keep going every night till the end of January. Just the great star we take down since epiphany.
Best regards from Germany
January 16th for us. That's what I grew up with
A Captain with a plan is always a good thing! 😁 we use Argo navigation to autoroute based on depth btw.
Hi Guys! Happy New Year! Very Cool! I like your navigation planning program! That's cool! Safe travels! You too, Martha and Sully! So cute!
Hello; I enjoy your new startup video. I also enjoyed being educated by Shawn plotting the new route. Glad to have you back making videos. Thanks.
Really joyed this one love finding out about small town America and How to plot a course on the boat was very interesting

excellent route planning. As a young boy of 10 - my grandfather only had a compass to travel from Seattle to Metlakatla Alaska.
enjoyed the route planning
Thanks for showing the route planning. What is the software again? Have you done other videos on how it works?
We use Coastal Explorer and love it. Tried Time Zero last year but didn’t like it as much. It was kinda glitchy and not as user friendly.
The trip planning information was great, nice to see how it’s done
I liked the trip planning segment.
Love these vids, I miss the water.. someday again.
Like the new intro
Thanks for the great tour. We are bringing our floating home your way this spring/summer on our way north and look forward to hitting manny of the areas you have shown. Hope to run into you two someday. Cheers from M/V Slow Dance (KK Whaleback)
Your posts brighten my day and my happiness factor jumps every time a new one pops up... a big thank you and Happy New Year
That’s amazing, we’re all about high happiness factors 😉
Look at those “Lines” on the “Good Ship Freedom”
Enjoyed seeing how you created your route on this, and also sharing how you plan to leave dock... you guys should consider offering day charters: your customers would be in good hands.
Always so wonderful.
Great video. Glad you’re making them again!
Always a wonderful show!
NICE VIDEO ALWAYS APPRECIATE THE BANTER AND THE SHORE EXCURSIONS. NICE DOOR. POLAR PLUNGE? KEEP EM' COMING!!!
Thank you I always enjoy your trips.
When all else fails, drop the hook. Nice vid.
Impressive turn using the current getting of dock.
Cant wait for the next one

Another great video guys and the boat is as shiny as ever!

Great video as always, good to have you back! Umm 19:35 ahem ahem, lucky boy!
You guys should put a stern thruster on! Would be a nice video
Great explanation of course plotting!
Fantastic video!
Nice
Good episode this week 👍
Lekker man lekker
excellent video interesting trip planning segment thank you
tons of fun watching our videos.
Thanks for the instruction, I needed that.
That channel can always be a challenge, especially during a big tide change.

So glad you guys are posting vids again, I love 'em. Especially Shawn's techie bits. Sorry Elizabeth it's a guy thing. You're really great too 😁
I hope you two will have a save new year. - One question: why do you wear inside the boat a bobble hat?
Hi ! Glad your back and love your channel. I am looking to get my Captains OUPV license. Did you do an online course ? Would you recommend where you got yours ? Thanks and safe travels

Couldl not stop laughing for 5 minutes that was the best fart joke.
😂😂😂
0:13 awesome fart face. 🤣 You're killing me. Thanks for taking us with you.
Love the route planning segment. At the end, was that Elizabeth's annual polar plunge?
Thanks guys for La Conner...
Great video, thanks. Very informative.

F'in funny! Nice intro...
yikes eyes peeled on water for floating logs... sheesh.. be safe Freedom crew!! 👀👀😮😮👍👍🛥🛥

Captain, would you consider retro fitting a stern thruster to freedom to aid in docking?
We thought we would but Shawn has gotten pretty comfortable maneuvering Freedom by now we’re not sure it’s worth the $$.
While adding a stern thruster is generally straight forward our boat is more challenging due to the transom design and no offered protection from lack of a swim step overhang, so we’ll likely refrain from adding one.
Compared to Europe it is so quiet, almost no people near the water and in the center of the town
