I first watched this video shortly after it was published. That was before becoming a Brompton owner. I subsequently bought an M6L at the end of 2019 from BrilliantBikes in Chobham, and by May mine had over 1,000 miles under it’s belt. You are right, once an owner, it is difficult to imagine life without one. The Brompton is “just right” for so many occasions. I would say that I have found it well worth paying plenty of attention to the gear/derailleur mechanisms - keeping these clean, greased, and well maintained for best reliability, particularly when used in wet/dirty riding conditions.
I have a Black M6L and I couldn't be happier! It's so much fun to ride it, although I'm not having many opportunities. I have mine for the past 3 months and every time I ride it, I get so many looks, as no one, here in my region, have seen such folding bike. I live in Brazil btw. Thank you for your update! Your first video really inspired me getting on to the folding world!
Great review. Personally Bromptons aren't my cup of tea but I do respect them and they do a great job for what they're designed for. My folding bike of choice is a Tern. I just picked up a Link D7i. These are a bit bulkier than a Bromptons having 20 inch wheels and folding in half so they won't be as convenient bringing everywhere but on the flip side the ride quality is outstanding and they don't have any flex in this stems, they're rock solid. Glad you enjoy the Brompton and I'm always happy to see people incorporate bikes into their daily lives. Cheers from LA and stay safe.
Thanks for this. Yes the smaller wheels do come with some compromise. But all in all its great if you have to use on public transport or city riding. Still have 4 other bikes to if I feel like a change 😊
I’ve had my Brompton since 2017, and I love it! Not only is it a great commuters bike, but works well for extended riding (touring). With the large front bag and large trunk bags, this bike works perfect for short touring. My Brompton has become my primary bike, in fact, since Ive had it, I haven’t ridden my other recreational trail bike.
We love ours. We throw them in the trunk of the car to take them to new venues. We've taken them across the US, stopping along the way for spontaneous rides. In my long life, this is my favorite bicycle.

It works for pilots If you have the space trying a 20" psuedo or real Dahon will give you a sense of the ride The Brommie is the shiz for ~5 mile or less where space is an issue and roads are fair and security is no more complex than a backpack, since truck stops often lack bike racks
Folders are actually perfect for that. Lot of truckers do it to get excercise and hit up the stores and such in local town while the truck is parked. Get a Dahon Speed Uno or Speed D8 instead though, way better and more study bike. The 20" wheels are better at getting around too. Brompton is overpriced hipster garbage for trendies without sense and reddit people spending their mom's credit card.

Thank you for your objective review of your Brompton bicycle. Genuine reviews enable potential buyers to make more informed decisions about investing around £2000 in a mini folding bicycle.
The slight flex in the stem has the plus of providing dampening on rough roads. Also, I disagree on the 10 mile max. The Brompton is comfortable all day in my opinion. Thanks for the terrific video.
Great video, thanks for posting. One thing I noticed is that on the pump, twist the red collar into the handle - this helps lock the pump in place. Quite important on off road excursions, where the pump may bounce loose and fall into the spokes.
Since I have to carry tools and a tube if I want to contemplate a flat, I am not sure what a frame pump brings to the game beyond complexity and weight. Pump options for racers have created so many options , a frame pump is just an oddity to me, esp if you need a grab and ride tool kit for more than a single bike. ? topping up the tires for a single bike apartment dweller, with a slow leak is a thin layer of the marketing profile.
I've had the pump jump into my spokes, even after setting the red ring correctly. It wrote the pump off. My advice is to pop the pump in your bag, or if your commute is short and you can catch a cab if you get a flat, leave it at home. The position the pump sits on the frame ensures they get covered in rim brake aluminium gunge if you ride a lot in the wet too. Cracking video, by the way.
I'm amazed how much I love my S6E, purchased in August. I've always been a mini velo fan, with many Moultons in my life since 1965. The Brompton doesn't have the cachet or smooth ride of a Moulton, but it does have the same nippy handling characteristics, without the expense of maintaining an often temperamental thoroughbred, with specific tyres and pricey components. It's a "go anywhere" bike, I take mine in a trolley around a supermarket, what better security? I wouldn't dare leave any Moulton locked up outside even with best D locks etc on the market. A separable Moulton still leaves you with two pretty big unwieldy chunks of bike if using public transport. I love both brands, and each have their own unique qualities at which they excel.
Had mine nearly a year now and its genuinely one of my favourite things and best purchases I've ever made. I have had issues with gear shifters, gear indicator chain slipping off and worst of all my handlebar catch assemvly/stem noplle braising snapping off which was sorted under warranty. However its been well worth the price. Tbe number one thing I'd reccomend is Marathon Plus tyres particularly if cycling in a city like Liverpool.
I quite agree, I bought my 3 speed Brompton for practicality reasons, but then it becomes more than that, I have taken mine on holiday to Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, done longer rides in the countryside, cycled the London to Brighton on it along with the World Championship race last year. Can’t imagine life without it now. Good video showing how great they are🎥👌

Great review. I think the word fun also comes to mind when cycling on a Brompton (certainly when in town anyway): it’s very nippy off the line and up to speeds of say 15 to 20mph and like you said very manoeuvrable. I probably wouldn’t appreciate so much on a long, hilly bike ride on the open road mind you.
Thanks for sharing your long term review. Bike commuter here using Dahon-fold type folding bike (20 inch) for my daily office-home commute. Your pros/cons review really help in Brompton decision making.
I'm teetering on the brink of either an older Dahon Boardwalk Classic (stainless steel, leather accents) or a Brompton (not sure what model would be overkill since not really buying for the commute, more for wellbeing; however I do live in an area with quite a few steep inclines). Having an absolute nightmare deciding between the two, but what I do know is whichever I purchase, I need to he able to use a turbo trainer with it. Would there be anything preventing this in either case? Unorthodox query I know, but I live in an extremely compact flat and want the option of continuing the cardio once home. Many thanks all and great content btw!!
I had a space frame Moulton too much trouble. Have had three Bromptons. First for over 20 years and more than 30k miles. Commuting about 17 miles a day in and out of London. Components would wear out, spares always available. Was very fit, London to Brighton or Oxford no problem. Would recommend fitting rear view mirror to handle bar end. Front luggage block and range of bags great very convenient. Highly recommended beautiful made in London ❤️🤸
Touring on the Brompton is very popular, the bike is more than capable of handling that activity. Please do not over rotate your folding peddle, it might scratch the frame. Pull up the Pump's red locking grommet, it will retain the pump more securely on the bike. Thank you your vlogs, enjoyed then very much.

Yes, good commuters, but also surprisingly good tourers. Rode my H6R Black Edition from London to Paris in September and found it a great travelling companion. Back on Eurostar with the Brommie in its softbag with others' luggage behind my seat. Brill!
Schwalbe tyres not wheels. I’ve got am M3L and agree with pretty much all of your review. Bought it to use with my VW camper van and it fits snugly on the back parcel shelf when folded. I’ve ridden 29 miles on it with no discomfort.
Couldn't agree more. Note that you are "overfolding" the folding pedal, with the risk of damaging the paint on the frame. The Brompfoot avoids this damage plus increases the folding pedal surface.
You can copy the anti-overfolding measurement of the current Brompton cranks on the old crank type, by tightening a *thick* tie-wrap, with the lock on the inside of the crank.
I'm buying on too in about 2 months. Still researching. I plan to get a 3 speed, don't need any gearing issues since I'll be riding strictly flat city surfaces. But, I'm getting all the accessories included in my purchase, for a one and done.
What a great video, my only reservation is tackling hills on touring, even with the 6 speed I guess it will be a challenge and require a good level of fitness, same for any bike I guess.
I've owned a Brommie for a year now and I actually find that is goes faster than my other bikes. The gearing is smooth and it just feels like quality. I do have to upgrade the seat though. My bum gets worn out after 10 miles
@@bikenomic1363 I have fitted a Brooks B67 in black. It has chrome springs beneath giving some extra cushioning. Like any solid leather saddle it takes some breaking in to suit your individual physiology but the end result is excellent. In my experience the so-called "comfort" gel saddles are useless for longer rides and your backside will soon protest. The only thing which does puzzle me is that this particular model doesn't feature in the latest Brooks ads so maybe it has been discontinued. I bought mine from a Brompton dealer who carried a wide range. I bought my first Brooks in the days of my youth when I would think nothing of doing a 100 mile day trip (1964 and very fit) and if that bike hadn't been subsequently stolen I would probably still be using that saddle.Like the bike they are expensive but the old adage of buy cheap buy twice still holds.
Even though it handles rough terrain fairly well, its Nemesis is cattle grids. I have three on my regular ride and have to slow down to a crawl. At normal speed it’s seriously unpleasant.
I have enjoyed my Brompton for two years now and can confirm all the positives from your video. I did have a problem with surface rust on the seat post, which I think was caused by the number of times I folded the bike despite always drying it off. I fixed the problem by replacing the chromed steel version with a titanium version.
excellent review. could you recommend me a good phone mount that i dont need to remove when the bike is folded? ive looked at the quad lock but i dont want to get a special phone case for that mount.
Very enjoyable video, thank you. I do watch a lot of them on Bromptons'. Two or three times you stressed that they are "suitable for city cycling"; almost as though they were not suitable for much else. A lot of owners also use them for touring. Will you be posting a video of your 5 mile journey to work, and 5 miles back? Good cautionary tip on the front light, move it out of harm's way prior to folding.
Thanks, glad you liked the video will keep them coming. Yes I will do another about using the bike for longer journeys and use out of the city. Had in mind to do a tour on this and if I do will post.
I have an H3L (although I've now fitted a rear rack to it) and regularly ride 20-30 miles. I've taken it across to the Netherlands a few times now and, as I travel light, I have no issues at all. [And I've never had an issue with folding mine with the front light pointing forward...maybe because my light sits back a bit]
Chances are that you've already addressed it but it looks like you main clamp has been bent out of shape. It sits tight up against the hinge but there should be a couple of millimeters of gap.
There's a thing called a bromfoot I think, that I've seen people install that makes the foot space of the folding pedal equal to that of the non-folding pedal. It basically slides on to the end and screws into the existing Brompton screw holes along the faces of the pedal
I would love to see an international rent for the battery when you visit a foreign country. I just think about a ebike for Japan the Brompton would be perfect but you just can't get the battery that big into a airplane.
@@bikenomic1363 One reason there is no flex from the single horizontal tube is because it isn't straight. It is curved, arched like a bridge, and this makes it seriously stiff without additional weight. Also, it is large diameter tube, which makes it stiffer, but does increase weight, although not so much as it increases stiffness. The "crossbar" is not the only curved frame tube in the Brompton. The stem is another, complete with flex, which I can certainly get if I really pull on it. But you get that effort out again through the pedals. This is one of the merits of a steel frame. Indeed, that long seat tube also flexes to help smooth the ride.. some people swapping to the titanium one for *more* flex. Check it out. There is a LOT going on in that frame, not all of it immediately apparent.
Hi Uncle Baldy - I think you should find that they are indeed one size fits all. In the UK, I believe the Brompton Bike Hire bikes are all M handlebar versions, so presumably Brompton figure that is the best fit for most people. The standard seat-post suits up to a 33 inch inside leg in its fully-up position, and can easily be set lower to suit shorter measurements. The saddle can be moved forwards or backwards on its rails. The M handlebars tilt can be adjusted backwards/forwards slightly (say, an inch each way so as to not compromise the fold/compactness), but height of the handlebars is fixed. The straight handlebars are set lower but are not adjustable like the M bars. I am very pleased with the M bar choice I made (for 5’11” height/33” inside leg), very comfortable. Hope this helps.
Mine does. It's not a loose head set, that would wobble more than flex. When I push up a steep slope in a low gear, pretty much hanging from the bars, I can definitely feel the bars travel back and forth with each stroke.
Thanks for the comment. Most people take them everywhere, into restraints and shops or work so no need to lock up outside. So. Far I have never locked my Brompton away I take it with me.
I love this bike... i love bike , since Always.,But a Brompton is a little too pricy for me... Maybe later...i want to believe. My dream : a S3l :) , and later i wish customize it

You can copy the anti-overfolding measurement of the current Brompton cranks on the old crank type, by tightening a *thick* tie-wrap, with the lock on the inside of the crank.
Very informative, I’m definitely going to get a Brompton, I can see how it would fit in ones lift style, thank you 🙏
I'm buying on too in about 2 months. Still researching. I plan to get a 3 speed, don't need any gearing issues since I'll be riding strictly flat city surfaces. But, I'm getting all the accessories included in my purchase, for a one and done.
Thanks, little bit of a learning curve but don't think you'll regret it 👍
What a great video, my only reservation is tackling hills on touring, even with the 6 speed I guess it will be a challenge and require a good level of fitness, same for any bike I guess.
Thank you, certainly less choice with 6 gears but performed better than I thought it would on the tour. Will change gear ratios for a long tour 🙂
I've owned a Brommie for a year now and I actually find that is goes faster than my other bikes. The gearing is smooth and it just feels like quality. I do have to upgrade the seat though. My bum gets worn out after 10 miles
Thanks, am looking at a Brooks saddle.
They are not perfect but still the most fun bike i've owned. Glad your enjoying yours
When I test rode a Brompton I hated the pedals. They're just horrible. Upgraded to the MKS Ezy Superior system and haven't regretted it one bit.
Thanks will look into these👍
thanks, looking to get a brompton and your video really helps
Would recommend, after you get used to it you won't look back. Best thing I ever bought.
excellent review. could you recommend me a good phone mount that i dont need to remove when the bike is folded? ive looked at the quad lock but i dont want to get a special phone case for that mount.
@@bikenomic1363 Great, I shall look out for it. Sure it will be enjoyable and informative. All the best.
I have an H3L (although I've now fitted a rear rack to it) and regularly ride 20-30 miles. I've taken it across to the Netherlands a few times now and, as I travel light, I have no issues at all. [And I've never had an issue with folding mine with the front light pointing forward...maybe because my light sits back a bit]
looks like A+ to me and what l have heard they last a lifetime
Chances are that you've already addressed it but it looks like you main clamp has been bent out of shape. It sits tight up against the hinge but there should be a couple of millimeters of gap.
Thanks for the spot
I've done 20 miles on mine. So good we bought another from Halfrauds. Even got 25 quid knocked off.
Cool video thanks 🎸 what model did you use and how many gears please?
Bought the M6L, if you live in a hilly area definitely recommend the 6 gear version. thanks
Same colour as mine... also a 6L, but H-high handlebar.
Yes love the colour, great bike !
Certainly contemplating buying one ; I have a question ? Are these one size fits all 🤔 ( seat post/bar stem adjustable etc) I'm not a Tall guy.
@@adrianlw2750 Y-E-P 👍🏼 Sure Does- thanks for that 👍🏼. ( I'm 5'7")
If your really tall you can get an extended seat post but pretty much one size fits all
I ride 18 miles a day on my Brompton and have no problem....
It's a great bike, impressive to do that every day 🙂
have you had any seat post slipping issues.?
you probably have a loose head set. I got the same one, mine doesn't flex.
Mine does. It's not a loose head set, that would wobble more than flex. When I push up a steep slope in a low gear, pretty much hanging from the bars, I can definitely feel the bars travel back and forth with each stroke.
Hello my friend very good video, l love brompthon.... Is really a good bike, a eternal bike??????????? Respect and love from Chile
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video 🙂
MK removable pedals are a good upgrade, the foldable pedal is too narrow and can fold too far and scratch the frame.
Looks brand new
Cant believe you left the sticker on the carrier block
🙂 yes should take that off
Nice job
Thanks much appreciated 👍
I have not read any advice regarding security with Brompton. Theft would seem to be quite simple if left outside while shopping etc
Thanks for the comment. Most people take them everywhere, into restraints and shops or work so no need to lock up outside. So. Far I have never locked my Brompton away I take it with me.
We have two Brommies and love to be able to throw both of them in the trunk of our Honda Civic and drive to distant bike paths.
Pretty much take mine everywhere in the car...just in case!
Is this the Tempest Blue colour? Thank you
Think it was but would check before buying😊
I love this bike... i love bike , since Always.,But a Brompton is a little too pricy for me... Maybe later...i want to believe.
My dream : a S3l :) , and later i wish customize it
If you do get one and treat it well it will last a lifetime. Great bikes for the city
Is it good for group rides? I mean, can it keep up?
Pedal hard and you can go fast but for equal effort a few mph slower than a regular bike.....but so much fun!
brilliant, thanks
Thank you more coming
Skittish steering is my only complaint.
Where can I buy this? And what does it cost?
Got mine for £1300 but some are cheaper. Sold in lots of outlets worldwide, internet and also brompton stores in bigger cities. Cheers
He only does five miles a day? 6:19 if you ride beyond that you need a normal bike that is complete and utter rubbish. I cant believe he said that. Where did they dig him up from?
Insightful comments and admirable attention to detail (hint, top right hand corner) 👍
5 miles come on, I ride mine all day long in summer no problem whatsoever
Wheels are to small for me.,if you hit a bump or pothole in the road ,I just wouldn't feel safe
They do take a little getting used to but hope you found the bike that works👍
could ‘t get thru the looooong advertisements!
Sorry will keep an eye on these, if more comments will reassess👍
Always found the frame design of the Brompton very pleasing, but the handle bars' form is soooo ugly...
They do different ones, maybe one is for you?
Saya ingin memiliki berapa harganya
Munasir Munasir the price here in England is approximately £1,200 for the Brompton m6l,I hope you’re staying safe in Indonesia 🇮🇩👍
very expensive
Yes they are. My thought was it would last for life. That was my excuse anyway👍
Trust me. It gets cheaper, when you realise how good it is, and how well it rides.
