  • We visited VanDOit's factory to see how they turn a passenger van into a custom Ford Transit camper van and adventure wagon!
They use a unique modular design and assembly line process to streamline production and bring you a fully customizable #VanLife van faster and more affordably than most any other custom builder. Watch as we walk through the entire process from start to finish and show how they go from bone stock to wildly custom.
We also interviewed them for our podcast, discussing all the things you need to know before ordering, choosing the right custom parts, electrical requirements and options, and more! Find the Bikerumor Podcast on all your favorite players and subscribe!

VanDOit are the vans stock 4x4 (awd) or is it a quigley or similar conversion?

@@Sampsonoff We are now using the Ford factory AWD as well as Quigley for the 4x4 conversions.

Can you share if the side airbags are still functional since they seem to be blocked by 8020 framing?

I watched the video to confirm that they in fact only work with "Passenger" configured vans. Now that I have watched the video, I am not quite sure why? Maybe it's because they convert many of their own off lease vans, which are passenger vans. I did not see any use of the factory seat floor brackets in one of their models. The vans are narrow to begin with, and every inche you can save on width counts. So adding more tracking beyond the factory walls, doesn't seem like the best approach.
I like the TTrack or 80/20 material and the modularity of their approach, but if I read their website correctly, their conversions are $100K?

Doesn't make sense to keep those side air bags then build out on top of it. And what purpose do they serve when driving? Seems like a bad idea to have an air bag go off behind a solid object.

    • @vandoitco

Hi there! We actually leave room in our build outs for the side air bags to have full functionality in the event of an accident.

@@vandoitco I still don't get how the side airbags in the back work when you cover them up with cabinets and walls.

    • @vandoitco
      @vandoitco 4 роки тому +2

@@netposerx The walls are actually the ford factory paneling. The cabinets do not cover any airbags.

@@vandoitco I kinda dig the fact that you use the Passenger vans to keep the safety items. I though it would be cool to have a #campervan, BUT starting with a cargo van and hauling 4 kids around all of a sudden didn't appeal to me. Just the added bit of safety with side barriers and airbags is a definite plus!

I agree with the rear airbags are a waste and possibly a cost down the road if discharged. We would not use this for passengers in the back, no need for seats or bags in the back.

Do you use others Solar System? I really like what Tiny Watts solar system is doing, the roof cargo box they have, and how you can stand on the panels with no issues. I also like their battery system a lot better than the batteries you use in your setup. Is that something that could be changed out?

helvettefaensatan We were just really impressed with their process. Full custom builders are awesome, too, as are other outfitters, but the idea of a one stop shop for van and everything at a decent price is cool. So we get a little excited sometimes.
Full disclosure, they did cover the costs of our trip to their factory, and we’re working with them to get a van. They’re giving us a little bit of a promotional discount as part of a marketing program, but we are still buying it.
Even so, we wouldn’t have made the video or posted the story if we didn’t think this was cool, or that it wouldn’t be useful for our viewers who are looking to build a custom van.

@@BikeRumor this is fair. Both you purchasing products, being exited about a new van and having a close relationship with the manufacturer. This is common among the providers of vanlife content.
Just be up front about it, or you'll end up looking like gcn where all content is paid for in some way, and if not the palette of reviews is heavily influenced by the paid content.
