This is a great idea - I’ll have a think about how we can turn this into a video! Thanks for the suggestion! If you’ve got any specific requests in mind, please let me know! Thanks for watching!
We’ve been using the Eve 2nd Gen Motion Sensor, for several weeks and are very pleased, with its performance. We have it positioned, to control our stairway lighting, and it works great. We’re considering purchasing another one, and would appreciate a tutorial, on using its luminosity sensor. Thanks for the informative content that you provide.
Thanks for watching Stanley, it's really appreciated! Absolutely, we'll look into making some content with the light sensor so watch this space! It's a great suggestion!
Hi Steven - another excellent video. I’ve already got two of these Eve Gen 2 motion sensors purchased but need to wait 1-2 more weeks before they will be available. I am looking forward to making a few light-level based responses to motion, such as turning on lights in the bedroom hallway of it is sufficiently dark in the house. Despite having a few of these options programmed in the Eve app, YES, I would love to see you releases a few tutorial videos on the topic. One small miss for the Eve motion sensor: I wish they added a basic thermometer like many motion sensors provide. Of eventually love to have heat levels in every room but adding Eve Room devices in every room would be overkill.
Eve App tutorials seem to be a big hit in the comments so we'll definitely be looking into making some in the coming weeks! Thanks as always for watching and supporting the channel - it means a lot!
Great video. And great timing. I’ve been looking into this type of product for a few days now. The only negative I can see is there is no tilt or turn bracket for more directional control.
Glad that you've found it helpful! Yes I agree, the SwitchBot motion sensor (which is very similar in design but lacking HomeKit, amongst other things) integrated the tilt bracket very well. Perhaps Eve might consider this for the 3rd Generation?
Great question - I've not benchmark tested either to get a specific number for this; but both Eve Motion and Eve Energy over Bluetooth are decent. Thread is almost instantaneous, with Bluetooth, there's maybe a half a second response time? It's definitely noticeable but not the end of the world. Both would be expensive devices if you'll not be using them with Thread though - if that's the case, there are other devices out there that would be better for you!
My Eve Motion sensor 2nd gen appears to work fine with Apple Home but if I configure it to turn on the light when motion is detected and turn off when motion is no longer detected then my light turns off while I'm in the room so I have to wave 10 times to make the light turn on while I'm sitting on the toilet. On the other hand, if I configure it to turn the light on when motion is detected and keep the light for 2 minutes then as soon as 2 minutes expire the light goes off and I can wave and jump in front of the Eve Motion sensor without any effect. It takes a while for motion sensor to respond again. I was hoping the light would turn on as I enter the room, stay on while I'm in it and turn off with a delay after I exit the room. But nope...
Sounds like you could use a presence sensor rather than a motion sensor in this case (you could use a motion sensor, but as you've discovered, it's hard to get it set up precisely). Aqara are letting us test out the FP2 and it might be up your street - review coming soon!
Problems are gone after I increased the "keep on" timer to 5 minutes and restarted the HomePod Minis. I think the latter fixed it. Haven't had problems since. The light stays on as long as I'm in the room, even longer than 5 minutes. This is exactly what I expected. Looking forward for presence sensor review. 👍
Everyone knows, Eve homekit products - pure garbage. There are numerous unresolved problems just with this motion sensor. And yet they ask for it 50 EUR 🤦♂
That's very fair, for those who don't mind the additional hub (and Aqara's got a great range of them), the new Aqara motion sensor might be well worth picking up instead of this one. Hopefully we can get our hands on one and test it out soon!
Hi there. No one has ever told me how to set up an Eve Motion sensor. They just say what it can do. My question is, can it control a smart switch that is non EVE? For example. I want it to control a dumb light connected to a smart switch (KASA) just plain on and off when a motion is detected. My ecosystem is purely Apple Homekit and I have a home hub - 2021 Apple TV 4K 2nd Gen.
Hi @maximike956, great question. The Eve Motion can control any smart switch that is also HomeKit compatible (doesn't matter what brand). One thing to note however is that with your current set up with only a 2021 AppleTV, your smart home will not support Thread and so if you had one of these Eve Motion sensors, it would be running on Bluetooth and that's significantly worse experience compared to Thread.
can anyone please help me? I feel like an idiot for asking this but I just don't seem to get what is the function of the hub here, i want to buy this motion sensor but the hub i have or the one that is adviced is my apple tv BUT the apple tv is really far from the sensor so I'm not sure if that is a bad thing, I mean is the sensor working via wifi??? my wifi signal is perfect everywhere but I just don't understand how this works, i just want to use this with homekit and receive both notificactions and automations
Having issues with Sensor not triggering after initial trigger? So motion detected lights on, timeout (say 2 mins) turn off. Im still in the room and move about wave arms etc but lights don't come back on for some time? What am I doing wrong? Tks
it was better in the beginning, not the software is more limited. You can set minimum 5 seconds ( it was 2 instead in EVE) , so, it can't be use in a lot of scenarios with fast movements or more than one person in action in the same room. very disappointed, I lost my money and back to the Aqara P1 sensor, more reliable and 50% less in price ( and you can set 1sec minimum) . waiting for matter...
It would be super helpful for guidance on setting up rules effectively. I got tripped on how to make it work effectively straight-away.

I would be interested in video tutorials on the Eve App.

So for example, I could buy the Apple home pod and this sensor, and control a Xiaomi smartmi 3 and hue lights?
it´s possible to controling the air conditioning with this acessory?
How quick is the new eve motion sensor without thread using just bluetooth and the eve smart plug?
Great question - I've not benchmark tested either to get a specific number for this; but both Eve Motion and Eve Energy over Bluetooth are decent. Thread is almost instantaneous, with Bluetooth, there's maybe a half a second response time? It's definitely noticeable but not the end of the world.

I’ve debated this but I want to see what the Aqara Thread ones like, when it finally comes out!

Thanks for sharing MultiMagical. Our review of the Aqara P1 is nearly complete, hope to see it launched before the end of this month!
Nice one
Thanks Joseph!
Thanks mate thanks for your good job
