What does your pre-ride checklist look like? What things are you making sure you check before you swing a leg over the bike. While some of these things will seem really basic to some, I'm including them because I've seen time and time when these things get overlooked. I've been guilty of most of these things as well.

1) Tire Pressure
2) Bleed Forks
3) Check air filter is clean and fitted properly
4) Check for loose bolts
5) Check chain tension
6) Check fuel /smh
7) Check vent hose (should be part of 6 imo)
8) Check throttle operation
9) Check bike fluids
10) Check riding pack
11) braaapppp! :)
Great list :)
I'm borrowing this list and putting it on my wall.
Personally, I would check all these things at home in the garage BEFORE I leave for the trail. I find it much easier to do this in my shop where I have all my tools and fluids. Also, if i find a serious "deal breaker" for the ride ahead, I haven't wasted my time driving to the trail.
I don't own a dirt bike or any off road vehicle-- but I love your channel. Very informative when I do decide to buy one.
I appreciate that!
When letting air out of forks, Have front wheel OFF the ground.
If your fork is feeling harsh, weight the fork for a negative air pressure to help reduce the harshness.
Back in the 90s, rockshox had a fork called the sid, pressure on one side, the other side was negative pressure to reduce stiction and make the fork more small bump compliant. Same idea.
I've seen the tire pressure, lost bolts, and fuel issues many times out on the trail. Just had a buddy lose a seat bolt yesterday. It amazes me that people don't check these things.
So true.
I watch too much youtube and this is probably among the top 2% of quality channels. Def top 1% of quality motorcycle channels. I remember when you were a newbie. Congrats. From Tasmania Australia.
Just as Kyle says it’s hard to figure video ideas after all these years, he’s pumping out essential info and tips to improve your rides, thx brother
Shifter bolts on KTMs, sprocket bolts on Yamahas, exhaust bolts on all bikes, are common items that loosen over 25 hrs or so. I locktite what I can, and mark everything I touch. Takes 10 seconds to glance over the bike pre ride, and if I need to loosen a bolt or axle during the ride, I can return it to tight with confidence without a torque wrench, using those witness marks.
Great call
Yeah I've been riding before and my shifter fell off
Another awesome and super helpful video, thank you!
I've added making sure my battery has a fresh charge on it. Thanks Kyle, I'll be going over this list with my kiddo before next ride (he doesn't have a battery so no need there!)
Love seeing the differences, keep making them. Thanks for a great channel
Definitely check your coolant just blew my yz bottom end up because I didn’t😂
I paint mark fasteners when working on bike at home - then it’s a quick visual ‘bolt’ check without risk of over tightening.
Nice! You do this on all the bolts?
@@DirtBikeChannel it’s probably OTT but as many as possible that are once in a while service/ check items - axel, suspension linkages, fork clamp bolts, calliper, engine frame bolts etc. I don’t worry about engine case bolts - never had one work loose. Seat, fairings/plastics, bash plates would be my only bolt check before I load the bike. Many will disagree but putting a torque wrench over your bike is a really good idea.
Keep up the good work Kyle!
Thanks! Will do!
Nice dude I spent alot of time on maintenance my neighbors think I’m crazy back forth
I dont ever forget the basics...... until race day of course! Too much going on and i get in a hurry
I have always maintained my rides, never had DNF's but, tire pressure is the thing I've always neglected.
I need to come down to Utah and ride with you some time Kyle.
Once I tighten too much the chain and that ruined the bolts of the sprocket. Better a little loose than tight.
That camera quality is fantastic
Kyle, forget the foot/hand pump. Try C02 cartridges. Works great, little effort. Great vids!
Do you think you can make a video of how you clean your bikes? tips, secrets, tools, or soaps you use? thank you!
Love that way. Thanks
It would be epic to have a bike like yours
Nice video thank you I would just leave that side plastic off covering over the air filter so you don't have to fight with her moving it every time.
I forgot to bleed air out of forks last ride, lol I did remember to top off fuel!! ( failed that in the past too)
I needed better snacks in the pack (old sucks)
No... I need a checklist. Thanks for the info. Any reviews on the Zoleo?
sprocket bolts are a must for me.
I use to always make it a habit to go around and ask everyone in the ride that day , ask them remember… someone take charge and go through a check list with your riding bros if they have everything!! Ride smart ride for the crash have the proper gear and ride for emergencies even those who you might come across on the trail that needs your help.. dont ever leave a rider behind
Guilty as charged Kyle! Great quick informational video. Keep up the great work. When is the next sweepstakes?
Ah, March 1st. Can't wait
Yeah, March 1. 2022 GasGas EC 300 and my sons 2018 65 SX
@@DirtBikeChannel wow, so awesome
I too always bring tools on my ride never know when someone is going to break down probably adds about 8 pounds to my back pack I carry everything you have in yours on every ride even if I’m only going for a small ride . Cause you never know when something will happen
Holy cow is right ! After a full rebuild everything came loose.
Hey kyle i have a crf450r that i bought for trails and enduro not knowing anythings about dirtbikes🤣 that being said the bike is terrible in Technical situations but recently i installed a flywheel weight and it made a world of difference way less stalling out and more controllable power i think u should give it a try, it wont be a 300xcw but it will be way better out on the rocks
Hay Kyle I love your videos. The new 300L came out and I was hoping you could give your opinion on that in a future video
That would be awesome if you could do that. Also a video I think a lot of people would like to see is a video about additives like sea foam or marvles mistery oil or Lucas’s oil enhancement
Do they make a 450x still? That would be a good comparison, not as powerful but 6 gears, softer etc..
What brand of backpack do you use when riding or that was in this video? Where can I get one? Thanks
Do you take spare inner tubes or a Puncture repair kit, and what about torque wrenches, or happy with spanners and tyre irons?
What tires pressure can you recommend for asphalt and for off road?
One of the.magor items that our group omits the first ride of the season is not adding air to their tires.
The Honda is a nice change from previous 2 strokes that you have had. Consider the new Rieju lineup next. They make a six day and pro model. Would also be interested having a video comparing your experience with both engine types. Example; more vibration on 2t than 4t and is a counterbalanced 2 stroke as smooth as the Honda? Vibration loosens bolts. Thanks
A Husky dealership down the road from me took on Reiju bikes. That Six days model has alot of high quality parts. Kayaba SSS forks & Olhins shock with carb & kick & electric start hyd magura clutch. There's alot to like on them especially the price. 2022 Rieju 300 Six days $11k OTD. I'd like to see a review on them that isn't in a foreign language..
Gearing up my new KTM 500 EXCF I'll remember to use your links. I really appreciate your work Kyle! Now if you could tell me how to get rid of the vibration in the foot pegs on a ktm I'd send you flowers and chocolates!
I have a KTM 500 exc also, no vibration problems but im getting some chain slap , all adjusted though
The factories worry less about fork air build up than we do or else bikes would come with bleeder valves stock.
I have learned this the hard way it cost me a rear rim always check your spokes too
Good call there. I don't check these every ride. It's more of a tire change thing for me.
@@DirtBikeChannel yep it cost me 150 for a rim n tire i just got my bike last year in may never ridden a dirt bike before i got a tao 125cc 4 stroke
I would like to get a yz80
I always check my BAC under 1.0. Fillerup.... Over 1.9 sit down and have a cold one...
haha!
Makes a good kick-the-tires video too.
Your mom makes a good video.
@@DirtBikeChannel she hardly ever burned the pancakes.
What tire pressure gauge is that?
Hey Kyle just found your channel want to get into riding but atv's. Will this work for those as well thanks and keep up the great video's.
I ride atvs sleds n dirtbikes. Yes absolutely pre-trip your atv or sxs.
Tires regularly leak on atvs,
Check oil n coolant levels every ride.
Most atvs now have paper airfilter elements, swap them out for a foam oiled type made by UNI... absolutely a must. Clean this often and re oil it to keep the engine free of dirt n dust.
Deferential oils should be checked often, front diffs on polaris say change the oil every 25 hours.
Spare drive belt, super important for polaris and can am.
Most important tip, buy a YAMAHA OR SUZUKI. rest are nowhere near as reliable. That's free advice.
Thanks man appreciate it I'm thinking about getting a Yamaha kodiak 450 atv for my first one.
I have an aftermarket kickstand and the bolt on that wiggles loose every ride. (Thread lock or not) Got to check those bolts!
I know the feeling!
I would go OEM on that. And, for certain other parts, you can't beat the dependability of OEM even if cost is more.
Sorry skipped a bit but how about coolant?!
Nobody wants to be that guy with the broken bike needing repairs on the trail, that guy normally doesn't get invited out again.
Blue loctight ALL bolts .
Brand new bikes need a full tear down to do this, also most don't come with any grease in the steering or swingarm pivots n linkage. The shock also has small bearing that need greasing.
Good things to know that I've learned over the last 42 years riding dirtbikes.
Good list Kyle.... right on. ✅️
I check my chain and tires. But I ride everyday for the last 22 years. I guess this seems important if you a weekend rider that has to truck their bike to the trail head. Unless your bikes a shitbox and you never maintain it this is a bit excessive to do every time.
Tire pressure is SO critical. Lots if not all handling problems.... tire pressure.
Some call it whiskey throttle I call it cruise control and who needs brakes they only slow you down
Thats one heavy ass pack...
Nice bike
Thanks ✌️
Wow that chain was loose! Great video anyway!
It's actually right within spec from the Honda Manual and my calipers... This bike uses much more chain slack than my ktms....
Chain looked perfect, actually. I guess it is bike dependent. My RMX 450 requires the same slack as his Honda. Be that as it may, it's better to err slightly on the loose side than too tight.
many of these things are good to do but is overkill u dont need all these every ride maybe every few
Checklist: not orange... check. Done.
Loosen the seat bolt it makes it a little easier
Taking the seat off makes it easier too. The point is that it doesn't have to be this hard. I know because I've owned a lot of bikes now :)
I use blue threadlock on mine
Very good call on many bolts. I'm always stocking red and blue locktight in my tool box!
@@DirtBikeChannel well i learned that cause i lost 2 bolts lol n since i use blue i do check but its not as bad
@@DirtBikeChannel ok my bike been sitting since nov I'm in canada cant ride to may what u suggest i should do for my checkup. In may before i ride?
👍👍👍👍👍
Wait, you're supposed to change the air filter? 😏
2:40 , bruh THATS bleeding the forks?? Why do ppl make the maintenacne seem like its gonna be harder than it is? Lmao! I thought you was going to have to remove some type of cables or something. I think when ppl say dirtbikes are High Maintenance, I think they mean like, How many times you do it...Not how difficult the maintenance is... Which is very confusing. i wish ppl explained things better. Thanks for the vid!
I repair my bike so often(almost after every ride) that i dont need to do a check-up before a ride 😂
And do this night before you ride. So you don’t have to do it at the track
I run HD tubes in my tusk recon 20psi front 15 rear.
Be better off with concrete in that front tire!
@@wfodavid why is that?
Where do you ride? 20 and 15 psi seems like a lot but I ride in the pnw with a mix of dirt and rock, so I run closer to 10 in both tires… with hd tubes
@@kainin8911 moab
@@kainin8911 I ride in the PNW also. I am currently running 13.5-ish in both tires. I pop tubes if I go below 11 or 12 psi.
The whole day will be done before you are done with the ckecklist
Hi
If you’re too lazy to check this excellent list, then just drag a big magnet behind your bike to catch all the parts that come off! Hahahaha
Do all that at home I'm not waiting for you to do a top end
Did you scratch your transmission protection plastic with your car keys before making video?..
Kick starter holding bolt..... 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻😂😅
I see what you did there!
@@DirtBikeChannel. If you know you know............ 😎😜
So don’t slam a coors light and smoke a Cigarette?
you do all these checks before you get to the ride.. unless you are that guy. Dont be that guy
Its a combination, right? A lot of this is done before the trail head, but it's a good time to do last minute checks either way. Just need to call out some of these things.

Legend!
Get rid of this mx bike please.
