The way you simplify without compromising the outcome, is a really good and vital artistic asset. 👍🏻👍🏻

Very well done. Giving shape to something painted loosely while making it look like it is shows the quality of the painter.

I like how you understand that the paint for the shadow and reflective light should be translucent

I didn't think the left shoe was too big when I first glanced at it. I thought it was propped up and more forward though, like they had just been taken off. (I would have never noticed if you hadn't said anything!) I would have been tempted to paint the curve of the black lines. I like how you broke them up with angles. Great subject, beautiful palette.

Your the only other person besides myself that painted shoes.. I'm sure there are more but I haven't seen them... I did a pair of sneakers in pencil, and another pair in watercolor... LOL maybe one day I'll do them in oils.. Thanks Micheal, your sneakers are great.

Love your videos and paintings. Thanks for sharing. I just finished painting a commission of a great Dane in a pose where one back leg was hidden behind the other and her little buddy dog was laying under her and they are both on a leather couch. So many problems. I tried to get better lit pictures with similar poses. I recently started painting with acrylics after doing colour pencil dog portraits. So I usually scratch it out but then create a tracing from an enlarged photo copies because I do large painting. I was almost done and just had to put at the fine detail when I realized the visible back leg "looked" way too big. 😥🤔😣 My heart sank! I had placed them on an elevated ridge in front of a view of the beach, ocean and land on the other side. 🤦 I did manage to correct everything. I learned a few things: Insist on taking your own photos and anything can be fixed. ( I do have a pile of abandoned canvasses 🙅) Thanks again for awesome videos.

After any part of the process. Oil , acrylic , charcoal , you must step back and study. Try not to trace , project your drawing plan Emma. One learns so much in the pre painting stage. Honest.

Thank you. I suspect the photo copy was distorted. I will trust my eye and drawing skills. 🤔

Love this still life. Quick question is alizarin crimson and ultramarine blue your usual choice for shadows when light is warm? Do you ever use some of local colour in the shadows? Love your videos. Thanks. Sue

@@chamberlainpaintings It's beautiful, that makes the painting very special knowing it is the father who painted it. The shoes themselves have a story to tell. Hard workers, they bear the mark of time and effort. As an artist, they may have their time to shine, or disappear according to the trend. Sometimes they are genius who came out too early to be understood and will spend their life in dark and dust. Humble beings, the two horses are waiting patiently at the same place the moment to go, carrying the weight of their owners at each step.
I guess these ones were well-treated and have a peaceful and happy retirement. Maybe it is just a rest. They accomplished their mission and still stand upright ready for the next. Michael you gave them a beautiful tribute, and I am happy to have known them. They are like their owner, love and kindness.
