In the artworld, nothing exceeds the experience of seeing artwork in person. You've included a rare/ brief close up of your painting. Seeing a macro view of brushwork and layering of medium(s) is the next best for the viewer

I really enjoyed watching this extended presentation of your process. I think it’s really valuable to see how other artists work, and the more complete that view is, the more helpful, in general. Watching the whole process is the reason I joined Patreon, and I am looking forward to digging back through your archives. Amanda

I see by other comments that I’m not the only one who has been inspired by you to go looser and more sketchy. I’m working at it, but why does yours look so great with so little, and mine? 😩 just looks unfinished.
I’m “ getting it’ , but I know you have to be a really good painter before you get that loose look. Not easy I know. That’s why I admire artists who can do that.. As always Michael, thank you so much. Tallahassee

A suggestion, Michael; take a square-top bristle brush and guillotine it at a sharp angle so you have a clean, clear pointed wedge of bristle remaining. It'll give you detail, and edge control, without reaching for a smaller brush.

I'm really enjoying this Mike. I've been watching you for a couple of weeks now, and what a difference it has made to my paintings. I've painted in a realistic style for years, but I'm loosening up and really liking how my work is turning out. You have made me realise that I don't need to paint every detail, just create an impression. I've always known that, but couldn't put it into practice. Thanks so much.

This is becoming a very beautiful painting of what would normally be thought to be a mundane subject. Your composition in both the reference photo and the painting are spot on. Monet had his Gare Nord and you have Bakerfield! Tres bien!

Really shaping up great! Color choices on the big trunk are so good. Format you choose was perfect for these big shapes-good composition too. Can’t wait to see what you end up finishing or not (?)

-(Michael)- -( I feel your patience in this painting, your reasoning, you add that which is needed and where, like a uniqueness of your “”spirit thought”” is so methodically processed, I look forward to the culmination, I greatly admire the way you have done this , also admire the sharing of your creativity, I love the painting

You’ve inspired me to switch from drawing to painting so I can be loose instead of hyper realistic like you’re style of painting. You’re work is amazing

Great video and painting, love how you changed the background to, I agree, a better one for a painting. I'd say to get the transparency back either thinned down rag to wipe it away then dry it off and re apply orrrr I am finding smearing it around with your finger has some fun effects :)

Beautiful work Michael. The looseness is exemplary and the transparency really adds depth. I have to admit, I kind of liked the look of the burnt sienna foreground in front of the food truck when it was more transparent, but I'm guessing that it was reading as too much chroma for the scorched earth of Southern California. I am curious about what you think it needs in your eyes to call it finished. The burnt sienna sketch coming through really brings it alive too. Nice!

Thanks! I’ll finish it in he 4th video. I haven’t ever filmed the final stages of a painting because so much of the process is just sitting and looking. We’ll see how it goes

I liked how you described that sketchy feel, and the reflections on the right truck. That left truck too could be good on it's own like on a 8x8 or 12x12.

Had you listened to me, and pushed the whole thing back, your figures would have been a couple quick dabs of paint & your done.
I do like where it's going though.
    I'll keep watching.

Liking how the brush is an expressive extension of your thought process.
Will there be any more instalments of your composition series?
