It means a lot to me that so many young people are discovering this incredible talent from decades ago. The Bee Gees were 3 brothers. Only the lead singer is alive. There was a 4th (much younger) brother who also sang, but he was too young to join these 3. He died as well. Very tragic that 3 of them are gone.

Actually, the younger Gibb, Andy, did join these three for a time in the mid to late 70s and had his own incredible career at the same time in the late 70s!!! There's a video of the 4 Brothers Gibb singing, "You Should Be Dancing" live!!!
I have the Bee Gees and Andy Gibbs' Greatest Hits CD's and Andy did remakes of some of the Bee Gees hit songs!!! Barry wrote and/or helped arrange most, if not all, of Andy's hits, like "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water," "Shadow Dancing," "Time Is Time," "Desire" and "I Just Want To Be Your Everything"!!!

How? It's called talent. Pure, raw, talent honed by years of dedicated, loving practice. No autotune, no tricks , just plain talent. These brothers started young, just singing for the pure joy of it. They were poor, so they didn't have the benefit of training; they just sang from the heart, with some motivation to entertain. The funny thing is that they had no idea of how much they could earn from their music; they just hoped that people would like them. They had their priorities right and their combination of talent, hard work, teamwork, mutual respect, and love of music led to great music and the accompanying rewards. By the way,, they considered themselves songwriters first, performers second.

Barry Gibb, here the lead singer, shared lead with brother Robin (beardless bro) in other songs. Maurice (pronounced MORRIS) is Robin's fraternal twin and occasionally sang lead, but usually shared songwriting duties.and played keyboard, piano, bass, etc. Bee Gees wrote their own hits and very rarely covered other artists songs. May I suggest "How Deep Is Your Love" ( same time as "Too Much Heaven"-- 1977-78). An early(1970-71) hit is "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart." You can see that Barry sings in his natural chest voice and didn't sport a beard until a year or so later

VERY nice to see young people checking-out and appreciating a golden time in our history, and moving out of the narcissism that has been inflicting us. This is what real music is. Note all the musicians in the room, and not just the Bee Gees but everyone playing live together. I won't even get into the superior production of those times.
By the way, these 3 are brothers. There is a fourth brother that will extend the journey for you. As for the Bee Gees, the obvious next one to checkout is "How Deep is Your Love", but after that I'd like to suggest a couple of my personal favorites: Night Fever and Love You Inside Out. I'd encourage you and everyone to think about just how different life and culture must have been back then, and why this love, spirit, artistry, etc is missing today. Music is a reflection of the culture which is a reflection of the state of society. Life was light years better in the 70s and 80s.

Guinness World Records lists Barry Gibb as the second highest-grossing songwriter in history behind McCartney. Gibb's career spans more than 60 years. You probably know this by now, but they are all brothers (Bee Gee = B G = Brothers Gibb.) They were born on the Isle of Man, off the coast of northern England, and grew up initially in Manchester, followed by Australia, before returning later to England. There was a 4th brother, the youngest (Andy Gibb) who launched a successful solo career and was as much of a heartthrob as Barry. I’m sure there’s a clip of him performing “Shadow Dancing” on here. But he fell into drugs and died young (there’s a clip of them singing “Don’t Throw It All Away” in tribute to him at a concert.) Today, sadly Barry is the only surviving member of the group. The Bee Gees provided a key part of the soundtrack to my life, I was in my late teens when they had their biggest hits. Their perfect harmony and the backing instrumentals are just so smooth and seamless, and Barry’s lead vocals are intense. Their sound is so emotional and intimate, it was the “go to” selection for a romantic date (or should I say, at the end of a romantic date!)

This song is from the Bee Gee's live performance at The Music for UNICEF Concert: A Gift of Song. It was a benefit concert of popular music held in the United Nations General Assembly in New York City on January 9, 1979. It was intended to raise money for UNICEF world hunger programs and to mark the beginning of the International Year of the Child. The concert was videotaped and broadcast the following day on NBC in the U.S. and around the world. The Bee Gees gave UNICEF rights to all royalties from the song. It's raised about $13 Million for UNICEF thus far.

How? By growing up together undoubtedly entertaining themselves by practicing. And you know how siblings' voices blend naturally. They've been big since, gosh, the fifties, guys? When they first started singing in public? Their folks probably trotted them out to perform. NO auto tune, and consider that you can barely notice the twins.. they're like one voice!

Kathy here - just found your channel and so glad I did. The look on your face when the sound that came out of their mouths caught you off guard was priceless! LOL And then Barry comes in and starts singing the solo and your face was shocked again! 3 Brothers, one mic, no auto-tune, just pure talent that will never be duplicated. Barry sadly, is the only brother still alive and married to his wife of over 50 years. If you want to hear another one of their songs, but performed by someone else, you need to check out Keith Urban perform their song "To Love Somebody". There was a tribute to the Bee Gees, and he was asked to perform, with Barry and wife in the audience. Keith Urban is normally a country singer, but OMG what a job he did on that song. And his guitar skills are out of this world. I think you will really love it!! Thanks for your reaction and can't wait to see your next one. The Brothers started singing when the twins were like 3 years old - the other 2 in the video - Robin and Maurice - are the twins, but not identical obviously.

Get ready to take a trip through the rabbit hole! The Bee Gees harmonies are untouchable!! As stated previously...you definitely should checkout 'How Deep Is Your Love' (official video), 'Night Fever' (official video), & 'More Than a Woman'. Another band you should catch is Ambrosia with "How Much I Feel (Live Midnight special)" & "The Biggest Part of Me (Live)".

This is back when talent, ability and musicianship ruled the airways. I remember very well the first time i heard this on the radio in the late ‘70’s. This is indeed heir voices. Voice correction and auto tune were not even thought of during this time. The ‘70’s were the greatest decade of music, ever. All instruments were played, no machines could produce this level of ability…

I was so blessed to grow up in that era. Being 63 and a true romantic in that era rollerskating was the thing to do and I can’t tell you how many girls I skated couples skate to that song. I would have to say it’s probably the most beautiful couples song ever made.

JayShara, you won't find too many videos of them in their younger years. These 3 brothers, Barry (the lead singer in this video), Robin, and Maurice Gibb grew up in Australia. They are the most iconic group where all three sang in falsetto. And Barry has the most clear, crisp, and talented falsetto voice EVER! Glad you were pleasantly surprised by their sound. I loved your reaction. YOU DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO THINK. I love honest reactions to unfamiliar songs, and your reaction definitely fits that category. Go on girl, dive into the rabbit hole that is the BEEGEES, you will be amazed.

I have a bunch of videos of them singing when Barry was 16 with the twins in Australia and they were amazing back then too. Their father worked hard with them and made them incredibly professional.
