    IS ALYS RIVERS REALLY THERE?

      when alicent is at the council table and the camera is on her heavy breathing and staring at her son. 2 things. I thought it was her realizing that her youngest purposefully hurt his brother to get the crown. Second. it reminded me of al pachino in godfather just before he shoots the cop. the acting was all in his eyes in the godfather, and the same here.

      The actress portraying Alys Rivers delivers an outstanding performance, skillfully embodying the character with depth and nuance. Her ability to match Matt Smith’s on-screen presence is particularly impressive, showcasing her talent and elevating their scenes together. Her portrayal of the mysterious, magical, and eerie witch is captivating, making her a breakout star and a standout in the series.

      Theory? Yes. She's a presence in the Wierwoods that wargs different women in the castle buy presents herself to Daemon consistently the same way because of what she's dosing him with, so he sees her _as she truly is._ I only just came up with this and I'm likely wrong.

    They marketed this season as Alicent vs Rhaenyra, but both of them have been ineffectual wet blankets. I want to see them scheming and making moves.

    • @Stephie_L
      @Stephie_L 6 місяців тому +2

      I want that too but we may get it in S3 if the characters are pushed in another direction. At the moment, I feel both still want to proceed cautiously. The only way I can see either of them scheming is if both sides remain standing after the war. I've not read the books but if Rhaenyra sits the throne, Daemon will push her to end the Green's line completely. Rhaenyra may be forced to become more ruthless and Alicent would be pushed to "make moves" out of survival. If the Greens win and Rhaenyra survives, whether she escapes or they agree to some kind of truce, she would be in the position of survival also. This is the only situation where I think you could have that kind of scheming because at the moment, both women are proceeding with war but with a heavy heart. Rhaenyra has also not shown herself to be very tactical this season and isn't as decisive as Daemon. Both women have definitely been "ineffectual" as you say. I'm really hoping S3 will be better...

      I dont feel like its really gonna be like that though. Rhaenyra finds out when she went to King’s Landing that Alicent didn’t know about the Song of Ice and Fire. So both of them know from that point that this war shouldn’t happen even though its too late. I feel its more likely that the season will be comparing the two and how they suffer the same losses as mothers. But I’m not sure

    They say in the trailer that taming a dragon is like a death sentence if it fails. What children of nobles would risk their life to test the theory that half-targaryans can tame dragons? I think all the nobles will decline and the only ones willing will be the bastards. So something like promising Targaryan recognition will go more of a long way as incentive for a bastard, than a noble with prestige and money already.

    The Dragonseeds tied back to when Viserys said "The idea of only true Targaryen controls dragons is just an illusion." Jace was right about Valyrian history being written to glorified House Targaryen as the only dragonlords when in fact the Valyrian bloodline also runs within other houses/bastards. The Targaryen's incestual nature is part of gatekeeping controls of the dragons as only legitimize Targaryen's princes/princess are given dragon's eggs to place in their cradles, allowing them to learned and bond or claim dragons.
    Rhaenyra was also right about this plan being a mad thought because if other houses can also have dragons, the illusion of Targaryen being special and closer to gods would be gone. Therefore, the idea that only true Targaryen can sit the Iron Throne also lost in time.

    I don't mind character work as long as it is moving the plot. Alicent's reaction to *suprise Pikachu face* being shot down by the misogynistic small council she helped raise was great character work, which will shape her going forward.
    In other places, its not enough character work: I'd love to hear a complete conversation between Aemond and Haelana in the throne room. Or way too much: Rhaynera wringing her hands episode on end and Daemon taking one too many micro doses on a trip that is completely butchering his character if not resolved.
    My biggest problem: they've done their setup beautifully. We obviously need some slower scenes, but I'd thought we'd cover a lot more ground. Like a battle every other episode. I do not know how they could feasibly afford to shove all the action in two seasons. They need to tighten up their pacing so we aren't getting slapped in the face so often with action on season 3 and 4, that it stops holding impact. I'm very happy not to be Ryan Condel for the next five years.

    i think the show is suffering from the fact that they got reduced from 10 episodes to 8 episodes so they can’t properly flesh out certain storylines and give certain characters more screen time. However it’s also boxed in at the same time because the book has certain characters doing things that kind of keep them doing a certain thing so they can’t flesh them out more than just there

    • @HasanAbist
      @HasanAbist 6 місяців тому

      If they do 10 episodes per season at this point in the story, there won't be enough materials for the show to make 4 seasons. I did not like the idea of 8 episodes per season either at first but the storyline involving Daemon and Alys Rivers, particularly the supernatural elements at Harrenhal, is both intriguing and well-executed. As a reader of the books, I find the portrayal of Alys Rivers by the actress to be exceptional. Her ability to hold her own alongside Matt Smith is impressive, and her performance effectively conveys the character's mysterious presence is as mysterious as her motivations and ambitions within the story. This nuanced portrayal adds depth to the character, enhancing the overall narrative of the show.

It’s honestly losin me here. I like the character moments but a lot of them are not done very well in this show. They’ve missed their chance to address the killing of small folk with Rhaenys’ death, like they didn’t even parade the head of Meleys around as the killer of small folk at Aegons coronation. So much is being left “ambiguous” it just feels like the writers are starting to use it as an excuse to not have to write more. I’m losing faith in this show when I needed to be gaining it after GoT and HotD season 1. They really need to tighten up season 3. Maybe it's good for book readers but as a non book reader it feels like a lot of exposition/ filler. And I have no problem with a lot of talking but it's just not as dynamic as S1. Instead of exposition just show us a montage of the atrocities done in the Riverlands. Also Daemon's screentime could have been used to show us an actual conversation between Aemond and Heleana, I'd have preferred the final scene be in the middle and the actual investigation into dragon riders be in the back end of this episode. I also would've preferred a Rhaenyra vs Corlys scene instead of the one with Baela even though it made sense for them to interact. The weakest ep of the whole show for me personally. Every ep should be tight and dynamic (with or without battles) since we only have 8 eps, as you said.

      I don't think Rhaenyra is Mary Sue but in term of story progression, her character is on the standstill it feels, since she's going to be making decision from Dragonstone for now. If showrunners decide to follow closely to the novel, from "bland," she's going quick into a tragic character losing her children etc. Aemond and Aegon are not cartoonish. Despite his disgusting nature (being rap1st and all that), you can see how Aegon was actually rather sensitive but he chose toxic masculinity to mask his insecurity and sensitive nature. Aemond, on the other hand, was not a happy person, he's overlooked by his parents due to him being spare no. 2 (his birth order) and guy has been bullied all his life by his own brother so not surprised he'd retaliate, plus he believes his brother is going to fuck them over in the war due to his recklessness.

    Nooo, merging Nettles with Rhaena is such a bad idea. Nettles’s story is way too complicated, and full of dragonlore that we don’t see a whole lot of, to combine with Rhaena’s. And incredibly disrespectful to say: Well we made a whole family black so we don’t really need this character, who’s already canonically black, and a MASSIVE fan favorite at that. And Nettles shows that there are more ways to claim a dragon then just running up and screaming “DOHAERAS” and “SOVES”
    SPOILERS:
    Nettles also disappears in the end after separating from Daemon (And maybe is the founder of the Burned Men in the Vale), because Rhaenyra is suspicious of their betrayal. Is Rhaena going to disappear at the end? Rhaenyra going to call for Rhaena’s head? Rhaena is also the VERY LAST dragon rider when her egg (That she never gives up on, and constantly prays over) finally hatches in the Vale. She names it Morning. Yeah Rhaena doesn’t have a whole lot to do but with all the time we’ve spent seeing Alicole and Alicent just in a tub that we didn’t need. There’s a lot of inventing they could have done for Rhaena. (And Jeyne, what’s she here for if she’s just gonna be upset over the size of dragons she’s got. They’re giving Jace and Baela way more to do than in the book (still not enough in my opinion) Rhaena should be visiting all the castles in the Vale to sure their support of something. She’s a Targaryen Princess (now that her father is King consort)

    • @Alejojojo6
      @Alejojojo6 4 місяці тому +1

      Its a Good idea. Nettles story is simple.... she isnt "full of dragonlore" lol. Her story could be completely erased and the story would not be hurt by it (in show and book). Logistically and plot wise makes all the sense. Why hire another black actress for a role that an already hired actress which has nothing to do with her caracter cannot take that over?? Nettles plot is literally only meaningful because she becomes Daemon's lover. That part can easily be substituted with Mysaria or some other random woman. Even an extra. The point of it is that Rhaenyra knows her husband is actively cheating on her and that drives her mad. "MASSIVE FAN favourite" speak for youraself because I don like this character and its a tom bombadil's like CC in the book.
      Nettles has Dragonrider blood, she is a distant bastard of the Targaryens or a dragonlord of old. Its canon, confirm by GRR Martin and the published lore books (Encyclopedia of Westeros etc) that you need to have dragonblood to bond a dragon. So in her case, she does have to have it 100% in not such a distant past, even if she doesnt look valyria (just as Jacaerys or Lucerys dont look Valyrian, or even Jon Snow). Her mother was a prostitute, that indicates her lineage.
      Rhaena's hole point its just hatching Morning... which is such a small thing to do for a cast-payed character that its senseless not to give her Nettles part. A lot of people cry about this Nettles disappearance. Its not that bad AT ALL, it's a very logical and wise move. You just dont agree because you like that annoying character in the book and you try to find excuses of why she is important when she isnt.
