I am quite surprised that some creators do not know how to use the trigger properly. I learned how to utilize it alone, but this video gave me additional info about the trigger. Thanks for the informative video!
this is an extremely helpful video!! i already use the guide often, but never with the static trigger, so ill utilize that from now on. thank you ausk!
I always thought the green lines was where block transitions started happening, but now I know it's for 4:3 Anyways, I have a video idea that I would love to see, and I feel like from this video that you are very great at explaining editor stuff. As someone with 6k moons, I've noticed a lot of platformer levels having awful checkpoints. If you want to concider making a video about how to place good checkpoints, that would be great. I have concidered making one my own but I have never really made a video like that before
Thank you for the compliment, and I'm really glad the video was useful :) I really like your idea and I believe it would be interesting to include that into a larger video or video series on how to make a great platformer level. I've thought of a series like that before and that's definitely something I wanna do at some point. Although I'm no specialist, I'm currently working on my own platformer (over 200 hours in) and I've been studying and learning a lot about platformers and overall game design. Would be fun to make a video teaching what I've learned in the process. Thx for commenting! :)
rlly informative 👍✨ i learned something new today even if i already use guide troggers extensively. one thing though, the green areas are not for 4:3, it's the overlapping section of 16:4 and 4:3. and one funny thing i realised is that the guide triggers on my ipad have red lines extending from the top and bottom to match my aspect ratio and not out the sides unfortunately lol, i wish robtop added an option to view all aspect ratios on any device both
I honestly don't recall anything of that sort at all haha, but I really appreciate the honesty, and I'm glad to hear it was helpful. Thx for commenting and for the kindness! :)
instead of making a 4:3 fix for the ui, just change the xref and yref to match where it's at and it will adjust to the aspect ratio automatically with no need for player input
yoo I didn't know about this at all!! I noticed when I put things on the corner (like the health bar) and use the refs as "center", it would be exactly where I wanted, and if I put it on top left, for instance, it would go a bit off screen - now that I think of it, maybe that's exactly why!! If I had put it within the 4:3 area and used the matching X and Y refs I believe it would work I had no idea it adjusts automatically and I'm gonna try that out later, thank u so much for commenting, this is really useful!!!
I have a question about refs, what does relative really do? I have placed some ui objects on a level, put them into the green area (at the top corners), set refs at auto and was working fine. But I checked relative and they shifted a bit more to the inside (only in the x axis, I hope you get it) I didn't like it so I had to put them a little bit out of the green area. I wonder how it would look like for a 4:3 screen (I use a 16:4 phone) Btw excellent video as always :D
for perfect optimization it's advised to use any decoration object to replace the guide after playtest because the guide has information and is loaded during gameplay
Tanks sooooo much this help me alot I really love the video it givese a lot of ideas for my lvls you have no idea how this help me ❤ but can you teach me how to use the UI trigger
Correction: you don't need a 4:3 fix for UI elements, since there is x and y reference, which will make it relative to the edge rather than center, you'd have to use separate UI triggers for each reference
No. You still need a target object. Static x would allow the camera to move on the y value while only taking into account the x value of the target object
Yep, you're right! It's much easier for when you are just moving vertically. I did it the other way because it's kinda muscle memory at this point since I do the movement stuff all the time on my own platformer, so I didn't even think of it hahah
I'd assume it's because it uses an object as the center of the camera and maybe doesn't consider the "gamemode camera" anymore, but I'm not sure, there could be another issue specifically in your level that is making it do that
Thank you! And yea, haha, I had a lot on my plate for the past few weeks, but I'll continue to do my best to upload more frequently. It's a bit difficult when you have a part-time job + university + other stuff, but there's lots planned. Keep an eye out next week 👀
@@auskgd definitely no pressure at all, i also have a job but i still play gd often and since I couldn't catch up with the new features of the game, i rely on watching good tutorials like yours to figure the new editor out 😆

bro i learned NOTHING about the guide trigger but i DID learn how to use the static trigger lol
LOOL yea thats kinda what happens cos its biggest uses are when u use it with other triggers
And I finally learned that (spawn) doesn’t happens when u spawn

I actually learned the static trigger trick from a collab, someone else's part used it.
It's also useful to use it along ui trigger to know its boundaries and place the object correctly.
Yep! I mention that in the video :)
