How to use thread burners with a comparison of the Thread Zap II and Thread Zap Ultra.
Why use thread burners? Use thread burners to cauterize and seal off stitches after back stitching leather or other hand sewn goods. Thread burners are quicker, cleaner, and more precise than using a lighter, with much less risk of burning your finished leather goods. They also can reach tight places that lighters cannot.
    Features of Thread Zap II:
-Tip heats up instantly to 700*F (371*C) when button is pushed
-Tip cools down instantly when button is released
-Runs on 1 AA battery (not included)
    Features of Thread Zap Ultra:
-Tip heats up instantly to 700*F (371*C) when button is pushed
-Tip cools down instantly when button is released
    -Retractable tip
    -Ergonomic handle design
    -Extra tip included
-Runs on 2 AAA batteries (not included)
    Tested with:
    -Ritza 25 Tiger Thread
    -Maine Thread Twisted Waxed Cord
    -Maine Thread Braided Waxed Cord
-Fil Au Chinois Waxed Linen Thread
    -Dunmore Bonded Nylon 66 Thread
In conclusion, the Thread Zap II is our preference for comfort and simple ease of use, while Thread Zap Ultra can be good for safety with children and in busy workshops.

I notice it does discolor and burn some threads, where it creates an inpleasant finish. Any suggestions on techniques to fix?

The handle doesn't get hot at all. Only the tip. It heats wuper fast and cools very fast also, in my experience
