This very song belongs in the United States Archives as one of our National Treasures. Simple as that. RIP Joe Sample. You are one of the G.O.A.T. jazz musicians.
2024 Still enjoying Randy Crawford and Joe sample . The first time I heard that voice, I was hooked. Personally, I have always preferred male vocalists. Randy Crawford, Anita Baker, Roberta Flack, and the young Chaka Khan of course Aretha, Dionne and Whitney. That’s it. But Randy Crawford is at the top of that female list. She is an underrated super talented lady.
How lucky am I to have both of these beautiful ppl! Randy C came to my house in So Cal in the mid 80's she was a friend of my Aunt & she visited my parents & aunt! Joe Sample was also a friend of the family & I met him in 1991 in Mammoth Mountain where he was playing a small venue in the dead of winter.. It was -10 degrees! What memorable experiences to have met and hung out w/ these two talented ppl while in my early teens!
Best live performance ever . Full real unbelivable . Rest in perce Joe Sampler was one of the if not the best pianist. Show me better live performance.....
Randy Crawford is one of the best vocalists ever......I will Never understand why she never got the recognition she deserved in the U.S. for her amazing musical contributions. But at least Europe and the rest of the world understand and appreciate her amazing talent.
I was 18 and the band at the Goldfinger nightclub in Athlone Cape Town played this song twice a night All I can remember the leadsingers name was Keith and he was the best I hope he's still alive
RANDY CRAWFORD! Still.....one of the most unique interpreters of song. Anyone else sick and tired of what is called popular music? Thank god that UA-cam is here so that I can get some visual to a song that has lasted over 30 years and lives to see what it was intended to be in the first place
On concert Randy told, in the beginning she and Joe had a crush on each other, but they didn't know. Another reason to get rid of those religious nonsense. Imagine, how world could be, if we follow John Lennon's thoughts. Love will find its way and children won't be hurt. There are lots of facts, religion proofed wrong. Historically they are murderers.
Randy sounds just as good as she did when I first heard her in 1980......just a stunning voice and anyone out there who wants to learn must watch the master.
Randy at her best! Her voice is just as soothing as it was 40 years ago. If not better. This lady has a voice of an angel. So smooth but yet so crisp & clean. It can’t get any better than that! I absolutely adore her!
Excellent recording of this classic performance. I think UA-cam enhances these recordings somewhat to get people hooked to them. This version also goes to show that great voices do not need a full orchestra to sound good. Pure talent Ms Crawford and Mr Sample.
Well I be damn, g+ did this well be careful on what you say on g+ from now on, I have a friend in London that has the same problem when she post they same very sensitive about things out to lunch, this just happen today?....well when ever, open a man's mind up on this forum seems to be political, hummmm, I do whatsupp and hangout, when people want to get closer to me with things of that nature, your welcome....sorry that's a damn shame...how long will you be off? And who is 5 hat?
Wow Joe Sample at his rampant best must be one of the greatest jazz pianist's in history and superbly joined by a voice the like of which we will never hear again. Jazz made in heaven.
Smokin hot..... She still has it. This song came out in 1979, the year I graduated high school. I loved the way this song was used in the movie "Jackie Brown"......... Perfection.
Henry Soto ....Oh wow, I forgot about that movie. That was a good movie. I’ll have to rewatch it. Looked it up and interesting fact, Doc Severenson the band leader from the Johnny Carson Tonight show was the one who orchestrated that song in the beginning credits of Sharkys Machine, and most of the album, but that version was never released.
My children have been instructed to assure this song is played at my celebration of life (funeral)... It epitomizes so much of the good and Ills of my life.... So it it written..So it shall be done!
Dear, Whoeverpostedthisvideo Thank you for posting this great example of music, and great artistry. Sincerly A 21 Y.O. who's not drugged up on the stupid techogarbage people call music.
I am from germany, I can not even imagine what "street life" REALLY means. I never missunderstood the song. I thought it is not glorifying anything - it is relative straight. On the other hand I thing the people listen to the song because it is extremly good. Think about the big number of people in the world that do not understand a single word of the song - they love it! That is the music, the voice, the timbre and the mood that shines out of it right into yout heart...
Glenn R, I was tapping and bobbing and ran into your comment - needless to say, I was roaring with loud rhythmic laughter. Best part is that I don't have to dial 911 - I wear one of those emergency call buttons and the troops would be on their way. Thanks for a good laugh and yes, I'm really enjoying this.
I've been a fan of Randy Crawford since before I knew her name. This is the song that introduced me to her soulful voice. So happy to see she's still making people happy!
WOW! what a voice, it's magical. Love it!!!! this is the kind of music we need to be listening to today, umm hot damn, this is- like real talent happening here, daaa-uuuum she is great!!!! and she is doing it live, top that one!
The beauty and emotions of Randy's voice moves me instantly decades later. Timeless and yet, moves me every time. Two legends and true master artisans.... Joe 🙏🏾🕊 🎹
well being not a native afro-american, i still have been part of that kind of life randy crawford s singing about. it was exactly as you wrote. Today? well from my part i can´t say that i´ll glamorize those days - but there were both sides of the medal. too many people have been dying even here in germany . . . but there where some bright moments too . .
I remember hearing this song when it opened the Burt Reynolds movie "Sharkey's Machine". What an absolute gem that crossed jazz/pop/soul/and rock! Great, great song and performance..............................
I have to admit to being a crybaby because this song is beautiful and melancholy and done to beautiful soulful purity. Bless you Joe and Randy. Absolutely wonderful.
Her words are so sharp and crisp, no more better than this, what a delight to hear this as she is older it shows how a winner does it, man great, love her!!!!
Luv Ms Randy Crawford, voice like rivers of liquid gold. Dear Mr. Joe Sample may you rest in eternal peace until the day we meet again in Paradise. Thank you for providing such beautiful music.
Randy Crawford and Joe Samples are such an amazing couple...I've always love these two artists..."Street life," is this artist's signature song...I love it love it...
What an incredible feeling to hear her other-worldly voice here. To see her live would be a life-changing experience. Loved Randy since I first heard "Street Life" at the beginning of the movie "Sharky's Machine". Her version of "Who's Sorry Now" is devastating. What a blessing she is to all of us.
TomKaren94 The opening of "Sharky's Machine" is one all-time favorite openings of a film. Also very underrated Burt Reynolds film. But yes this song and that movie are inseparable in my mind
Luckily enough, I saw her twice, in London with Joe Sample Trio including this tour, I guess. Amazing live, the air filled with musicality - unforgettable.
I WAS SO VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE CAUGHT RANDY CRAWFORD ON LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK BACK AROUND 1993/4 WHERE SHE BACKED UP MY FAVORITE GUITARIST ON EARTH, LARRY CARLTON, AT "THE WESTBURY MUSIC FAIR"!~!~! WHAT AN AWESOME SHOW THAT WAS!~!~!~!~!~!~!
I know that Joe is up in heaven and he's playing with some heavy players for the greatest audience ever!😎 "And if you keep it young your song is always sung"This song was the first song I played on 91.5 KUNV August 1985 in Las Vegas
Why is there no new talent creating this kind of music??? Randy and Joe some 30 or 40 years after the original and it still sounds like the album!!! Wow Randy just has the voice to melt your heart, so soulful and more current than todays female artists sound with that rich tone and not trying too hard to sound soulful! Some have it, some don't Randy has it enough for everyone to sound great. Glad I grew up with the original and have 40 years to appreciate the awesomeness of this tune x
love this jazzed out arrangement. I've been jamming along with Randy for hours now. Her tone is incredible, so effortless and always a wonderful smile. A truely beautiful person.
Sheer Perfection. ♥️ This never gets old. The first time I ever heard Joe Sample, I fell in love with his music. 💕 2024 and still loving “Street Life” ♥️

Randy Crawford's voice is so distinct. It has unique beauty all its own. Beautiful music.

Maybe pre-recorded?
Joe Sample Trio and Randy Crawford 'broke-it-down' for us.
For real!
One song that has aged gracefully. Come on Joe...tickle those keys.
She's one of those very few singers who keeps her voice while maturing.
Joe and Randy what a musical pair.
