That opening is everything!!! 🎶It makes it officially time for fall reading! so happy!! So I've never read The Way We Live Now, happy that's our group read, and I had already decided to read The Return of the Native, so yay that it fits your prompt! That is one gorgeous edition of Treasure Island, too.
I wish every month was Victoberliterature had to do with mass publishing of books for the first time and novels being serialized in magazines for the first time.

This is perfect--I've never read Trollope, mainly because I didn't know where to start, so this is a great help! I love the beginning of your Victober videos, by the way...
Kate, I am so happy that you mentioned Deerbrook. It is one of my absolute favorite Victorian novels and so underrated as well as not really talked about at all. Wonderful choices you made. So excited for Victober😊👏
Well you know my eyes will be bigger than my stomach but Rainey and I are going to read The Perpetual Curate, a friend and I are going to read a Trollope, we have both read The Way We Live Now, though I’d love to reread it, so it will be another one I think. I’m also reading the non fiction Parallel Lives: Five Victorian Marriages and one of a pile of New Woman authors I was thinking of- so Katie’s prompt was perfect timing!
I’m a newer reader and a lot of what I read is 20th century lit, I’ve only dabbled in George Eliot and Oscar Wilde who I do like in all fairness, so I’m going to read Jane Eyre this October. I have college in the fall and I want something deep but not overly complex and I’ve heard Jane Eyre is very approachable (especially since I’m reading The Sound and The Fury right now and while I am loving it that book is crazy lol.)
Saved the video until i had time to enjoy all the riches therein!! Wasnt sure u liked Wives and Daughters, glad u cleared that up. Lol😊 thank u and all the hosts for the wonder that is Victober.
Thanks! I'm very excited to start working on my TBR. Countess Kate sounds delightful. FYI, you mentioned The Law and the Lady and Mary Barton but they didn't make it to your list in the description box.
This is my favorite booktube event. The Way We Live Now is such a great book. This year I'm re-reading Dombey and Son as it is one of my favorite books and reading The Prime Minister for the first time. Although I started the re-read early and may finish before Victober starts.
Truly one of my favorite times of the year! Looking forward to this! :D and the praise towards Charlotte Yonge has got me so hyped for one of my reads for Victober, Clever Woman of the Family!
I've had Middlemarch on my TBR list for way too many years. I think I might have to hop on to Victober and read it! (But Romola sounds fascinating....)
I just discovered Victober a few weeks ago. What a wonderful idea! I'm French Canadian but I have always had a taste for the classics. The few victorian novels I read like Vanity fair, War of the worlds, Great expectations or Treasure Island I absolutely loved. So, I want to participate. I already had a pile of TBR classics and now that I have more time on my hand I will begin with the book that happens to be on the top : The Mill on the Floss by George Eliot.
I am very excited for Victor! This will be my first year participating. I am planning to read Dracula, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and Wuthering Heights. And maybe, North and South. 🙌🏻🍁🍂
My favorite reading month of the year! 🥰 You’ve influenced me to get in some Charlotte Mary Yonge this year for sure! I’m eager to read The Belton estate, too, since so many are raving about it! I’m thinking later in the fall I’m definitely going to buy out some time for that one.

Victober is always my very favorite time of the year! Can’t wait. What an interesting prompt, Kate. The appearance of the stranger is a perfect way to get a story going, isn’t it-and not just in the Victorian period! Return of the Native is a perfect choice, as is Wuthering Heights! (Honestly, though, I’m having trouble dreaming about autumn reading when we’re staring down a week of temperatures of 97 degrees F. I’m glad I still have a bit of time to plan a list.)
