I tried 2 times to watch arc v I instantly stopped in the first episode because in the first few minutes I saw the mc use a card that summoned dancing hippos I mean I've seen ridiculous cards before but the dancing hippos just killed the already limited hype I had for this anime I didn't try again for months probably longer and I was more interested in yuto than yuya but I dropped it right around the time they went to the synchro dimension ultimately I dropped it and went to vrains and didn't even start watching until it was already over and as far as sevens and rush goes nope no thank you
If you think about it, Sawatari was the best representative for the show’s core theme because despite losing every time, everyone loves watching him duel. He’s a showman and doesn’t get upset over losing if the crowd enjoyed it. His very existence flies in the face of Academia and Z-Arc’s might makes right ideology.
Sawatari being annoyed after his loss to Yugo and then immediately perking up after seeing how happy he made the crowd made me genuinely fall in love with his character. Despite his ego he always stays true to himself in his duels and that's the kind of merit you don't see often enough.
His duel with Yuya was the thing that really hooked me in Arc-V even to this day. I remember being so gripped by what they'd do. Even though Sawatari was against the MC, that didn't stop me from believing he'd win. I was literally at the edge of my seat.
It always irritates me that Leo could have avoided Zarc being revived if he just showed Yuri compassion and love when Yuri was still a child. Yuri turned out the way he did because he was ostracized by the other kids. Instead of leo trying to be a father figure, he turned him into a ruthless genocidal maniac. One of things I like about Yuri as a villain is that he wasnt bad simply for being bad and plot demanded it, he was evil because of his upbringing as a child soldier who knew nothing but to become stronger. His whole motivation was to prove he was the strongest because that's what he was taught. Yuto, Yugo, and Yuya all had people to support them and who showed them kindness and love, Yuri never had any of that and the only person who showed him anything close to it was Leo and Leo just used that to turn Yuri into a coldhearted sociopath who wanted to turn everyone into cards as a show of dominance. Yuri could have easily been one of if not the best Yugioh villain if they didnt screw up his character in the end. Yuri literally had a "we were bad but now we're good" moment after he fused with Yuya, like all the stuff he went through and all the trauma he suffered just stopped effecting him, it makes no sense.
@@kanekikingstorm2113 Leo akaba: I must stop Zarc from be revived. Also Leo akaba training a boy that had zarc soul only end up revived Zarc in later episodes.
Or kill Yuri from the start. I mean from what I've seen in Yuri's backstory, Yuri was already seen as scary by the other students before he met the proffessor. That alone should have act as a red flag for Leo.🤔 But yeah, Leo is defenetly the one to blame for how Yuri turned out to be! 😒
Im still baffled that they managed to have four female characters be important to the plot and still manage to screw it up. Half only actually appear and duel in the final arc and only once. Meanwhile the other half stop doing anything important halfway past the show. Like Yuzu's last duel is 77 and despite being a constant presence in the show, does not duel anymore afterwards.
Konami when printing Solfachords, a music-themed Fairy deck based around Pendulums: "I feel like we're forgetting something... Eh, probably not important."
Arc-V hurts me because it's like the Yugioh series with the most potential that ALSO had the most possible fanservice...and they missed it up. HOW DID YOU MESS IT UP?!!
I used to think it was one of the better series in the franchise, but a rewatch recently pretty much made me not like it very much. Great setup, some really good characters, an actual solid first third, but as soon as they start dimension hopping the show takes an huge nosedive in quality and by the end it was very clear that it was being rushed to the finish line.
Holy shit i've been ranting about this show for literal years I hate the way they handled the 4 Yu-Boys and the Bracelet Girls so much they all deserved so much better then what they got
Really hate how at the end of it, Leo wasn't punished for his actions. The whole mess is his fault as he essentially committed war crimes as well as killing hundreds of people yet the characters forgot about it and he got to walk free !
Arc-V? Man talk about a throwback. I watched the show back in 2016. I’m still unsatisfied of the ending but then again it’s somewhat better than what it’s manga counter part offered I guess
@@firepuppies4086He simply cannot be removed from the field when extra deck monsters are banished or in the GY and is immune to the effects of extra deck monsters. @@Magevast9 Though I must say, by watching videos like these, it's helping me become better at story telling since i am currently making my own comic story!
What I hated is that all this stuff was treated as this awful thing with dire consequences... and then they just get up and walk it off like it's nothing. The dissonance is too strong.
Arc-v had the best visuals. The best premise. The best base story. The best settings. The best fanservice (old characters) And the best overall characters. Some of the best soundtracks If it continued like it started it'll be the best Yu-Gi-Oh series no doubt in my mind, but they somehow messed it up
Honestly I think the Rei counterparts decks should have worked together in the game. Just let the cards search each other out and their value would skyrocket.
@@nicholase82 Sure, let's make Lunalight Tiger search every Lyrilusc card in existence, what could possibly go wrong ? (Funny by the way that Melodious is by far the worst archetype among the 4 girls... Yuzu should have ended up with a Pendulum Deck in the end, like Solfachord for example, would have fit her theme perfectly)
@@nurhusninaalya300when female characters finally got decent. And yet komoney still struggles to print halfway decent cards. Most early cards are complete trash.
Leo Akaba's decisions are so confusing I believe they'd make more sense if Zarc was his child instead of Ray. At least then he'd be a grieving parent who wants his child back even if they were messed up in the head and is willing to go to great lengths to stop the 4 girls who could prevent that from happening.
Leo's motivation and writing reek of writing without forward planning in mind. They needed to come up with some sort of motivation for him as well as explain what was going on with the Yu boys and Bracelet girls. Since they actually had NOT ANSWERED ANYTHING up to that point any explanation they'd get would be subject to analyzing actions with hindsight and if it contradicts things they did prior to that, they can't solve it. It's part of why I think that with the power of hindsight the first seasons of Arc-V get retroactively worse. Like they were interesting on the initial watchthrough but when you remember what actually happened with the story you see it's basically all buildup and if the payoff doesn't work then the buildup kinda becomes pointless.
You know what's even funnier, if they wanted to be lazy then they could have the darkness within Zarc literally possessed Leo to revive him which later invaded/possessed/manipulated Yuri. Wouldn't be great mind you, but it wouldn't be baffling.
@@nekoluxuria7721 Yeah, even with the changes to Akaba, there'd still be a lot of weird stuff to cover. The brain parasites, Zarc just being a demonic dragonic Yuya, Ray possessing Reira of all people, Yuya's smile cult, the length of Synchro compared to Fusion and Xyz.
Or better yet, have Leo who knew about Yuya and Yuto fusing together, apply that logic to his daughter. If Zarx gets revived via dueling, maybe his Daughter would. And if that was the case, HE had ALL FOUR of them. Like the moment Barret kidnapped Yuzu and brought Serena back he had all the pieces he needed. Fusion Parasite mind Control, 4 way Battle Royale and Boom
One thing to note: With Serena and Yuri, the bracelet girls are SUPPOSED to be with their Zarc counterpart. However, in the fusion dimension, Serena and Yuri were separated at all costs. I love how we get to see what would happen if the represented bracelet girl isn't with their Zarc counterpart, and it does show throughout the show. Yuya, Yuto, and Yugo always being consumed by rage when their bracelet girls aren't with them and Yuri being Yuri for example. The problem lies in the characters. With just the bracelet girls and Zarc counterparts, there are 10 different characters to add in the story (including Ray and Zarc.) This isn't even including rivals, friends, and legacy characters. Having this many characters means there's less room for interaction between the bracelet girls and zarc counterparts. For example, Yuya actually never interacted with "not mind-controlled" Rin or Ruri. Also, at the end of the series, we learn that everything we learned about the dimensional counterparts to Ray and Zarc doesn't even matter because they don't split up in the end, they stay fused in the standard dimension's counterpart.
Arc-V is just a great case study in missed potential. The ingredients for a good show are consistently there from start to finish. It's just that the cook had no idea what to do with them.
They gave Edo Phoenix the biggest FU by changing him into basically a completely different character from his GX self and more into a bad fanfiction creation, and not letting him win even one duel. I'll never forgive that.
Yuyu and Yuzu should have been the main characters. Their combined story arc should have been coming to grips with how they were getting ever closer to merging with their counterparts, leading to their inevitable 1v1 (4v4?) duel. Imagine coming to grips with your identity when you're "1/4th" a person WHILE dealing with your friend/love interest being fated to destroy you.
So I watched _Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse_ in July, the week before my birthday, and it was so impressive and affecting (I cried in the theater _twice!)_ that I ended up rambling to my cousin in a voicemail, and I caught myself saying “this is everything YuGiOh Arc-V should’ve been!” and for a moment, my heart sank. I wish I could write a fanfic well enough to right this series where it went wrong.
My biggest problem with Arc v is that throughout the entirety of the anime they keep emphasizing that the yu boys and bracelet girls are there iwn people and not just parts of Zarc and Rei only for them to stay inside of yuya and yuzu by the end
The worst mistake Leo could have made is trying to revive Ray. He took away the only thing keeping the Yu-boys in check, the Bracelet girls, and by killing them infront of Yuya/Yuto, he alone revived Zarc.
Also YES, THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING THAT YUYA AND YUGO NEVER TALK TO EACH OTHER. I've never seen anyone bring this specific thing up, it's always overshadowed by the other shit going in the Synchro Arc. Holy fuck, one of the things I wanted to see the most was Yuya and Yugo interact with each other. I think that they would have an interesting dynamic, but also to have them talk about what happened to Yuto. Hell, I also wanted to fucking see some sort of confrontation with Yuto and Yuri.
There's a fanfic called "The Fifth Factor" that is just so amazing, I think it tells the story as it should have been told from the beginning. I enjoy reading that fanfic more than watching the actual anime.
Man, Arc-V takes me back. I started watching because I saw people saying the Standard arc was one of the better arcs in Yugioh. I caught up in the Synchro arc which ended up okay but took too long. Then by the Fusion arc, people were cheering Arc-V on to claim all 10 spots for worst episodes on NicoNico.
Agree, while Synchro arc was entertaining enough because of Jack and what not, it was too long indeed. Then everything went down hill in Fusion arc, especially when Leo Akaba revealed his plan. Like, excuse me what?
Personally I think the show would have been a lot worse if Leo did card Yuri, mainly since he carried the show for me and every time he was on screen was a delight, truthfully I wish he'd have beaten yuya and became zarc, infact he very much would have if Plot didn't kick in.
The one thing I really like bout arc v is how it uses deck to establish character. Like sawatari getting abyss actors to show how hes embraced performance (and I really just love abyss actors gameplay wise) or sora having fluffal/frightfur, showing a cutesy outside while hiding a fucked up inside
A huge issue I have with the Synchro Arc is how it's such an obvious retread of the first arc of 5Ds, but with way less substance. In 5Ds there is genuine classism thrown Yusei's way since he was born in Satellite, with early episodes really emphasizing the fact that people born in Domino always assume the worst in him and in the episodes where he's in prison people joke at his expense if he's even literate or knows how to play Duel Monsters. Not to mention the fact that Satellite is an isolated island with its inhabitants forced into slave labor, with Domino's government actively doing everything it can to keep it that way. In Arc-V though, all that gets reduced to....winners vs losers. Not even rich upper class vs poor under class just....winners vs losers, with the wealth gap being an apparent side effect instead of the cause. Not to mention the obvious character shilling in Crow Hogan and Jack Atlas. Jack is actually well done so no complaints for him, but Crow, he's everything wrong with his 5Ds counterpart AGAIN.
I personally think some stuff did kinda work and there was stuff I liked. Shay vs Dennis was an awesome duel and other duels like both of Yuya's matches against Jack and Yuya vs Crow were decent. But...ugh, it was just pointless for it to drag that much...why not have Jack face Yuya in some other way? Maybe Jack is intrigued by Yuya's Pendulum summoning and that's how they duel for the first time? And for the love of the Egyptian Gods, HAVE REIJI DO MORE!!! HE WAS JUST BEING HELD CAPTIVE WHEN HE COULD'VE EASILY BROKE OUT! I'M NOT A BIG FAN OF REIJI, BUT THAT WOULD'VE BEEN SO MUCH BETTER! And have Yuzu do more too! Maybe Yuzu gets, idk, tracked by some Obelisk Force Members and takes a bunch of them down. And then maybe Yuri comes and tries capturing her and Yuzu is having some like, PTSD about the last match, but is able to overcome it and is able to result the match in a Draw. Idk, just do something! Sorry, I just ranted, it happens with ARC-V, but that's just because I see how much potential it had...
Arc V was a great show. And then they traveled to the Synchro dimension and it all went fucking down hill. Sawatari was fun though, give that guy a spin off
[Breath in deeply] As somebody who whatched Arc V up until the middle of the Synchro arc as a teen, liked (and still likes) the desings of the characters and their monsters to the point that it's part of my drawing influences (or it was, at least, smong the media I watched as a teen when I decided to become an artist), and bassicly learned a lot about the game watching it (even with the action cards and the pendulum magic stuff, it's still closer to the actual game rules compared to the earlier seasons), I do still have some respect for Arc V as my biggest entry point in the Yu-Gi-Oh series. Even if I've saw the GX opening once or twice on YTV, videos about the censorship of the show and some theories, Duel Monsters first season or so on youtube, and some miscelanious mentions here and there, Arc-V was the thing who really got me into Yu-Gi-Oh as a series and card game (even if I don't play it really much). I wouldn't know about Cvit (inspite of some of his opinions I don't vibe with.) or Little Kuriboh (Joey's New York accent and "In America" are graved in my brain... Ditto for "Screw rules, I've money") if it wasn't for Yu-Gi-Oh. In spite of her status as "Dimensional lamp" (and the manga thing where she's bassicly Yuya's mom via time travel... Sorry if I made you puke), I still like Yuzu/Zuzu, mostly for her French Dub actress and her music Diva archetype. Yuya's still quite dope for me mostly for his glasses (and his french-dub actor... Like, the french dub ain't "broking 3 feet to a duck", but some of the main cast is at least competant/enjoyable).The fact I'm autistic and was a teen when I saw the show might have helped too... And french Teletoon never showing the final arcs of the show (as far as I know). Probably that I would have liked it as a kid mostly for the cool desings (and being a dumb kid who didn't payed attention to the obvious and fat faults of the media he consummed) even if it was a bad ending, à la Star VS Forces of Evil. In brief; Yu Gi Oh Arc-V is many things for me, and "A genuent classic" ain't one of them to my dismay; -A good-enough entry point in the Yu Gi Oh game as a whole (even if Vrains came after with the Link monsters, and all the speed duel stuff of Sevens, the gameplay ain't that different with the pendulum cards going in the spell/trap zones, witch make sens as the pendulum cards are considered spell/rtrap cards when they're used in the scale.) -An actual "Style over substance" show. Feel free to choose Yuya or Leo(Declan in french) as the poster boy of this... D/D and D/D/D are so dope. -My first exposure to the "sexy lamp" trope discussions online (It's the variant of the damsel in distress where the damsel is closer to a prop than a character) -One of the things who was around to inspire me to draw stuff. Sorry for the lenght, I like to talk a lot.
Nicktoons showed Seasons 1&3 of Arc V yet never the 2nd Season. I remember 4kids not dubbing GX Season 4 or several 5Ds episodes into English. Leo Akaba was Declan's father & I have Aspergers as well starting Yugioh in 2002.
I will say, give Zexal a shot. As in, try to see it through to the end. Yeah, it absolutely STARTS dumb, but there's good reason why it has a ton of dedicated fans despite that.
I connected with Yuya so so so much that he's been my best boy since the very beginning. The anxiety and pressure that comes with wanting to be cheerful and make people happy at the same time, ive struggled with it a lot too so i loved his character❤❤❤ Im so hunking mad how the story ended up, like the manga saying the Yu-boys are brothers makes so much more sense than the stupid splitting plot 😢
Yuuto is my favourite character. He was living his life then Fire Nation attacked. He became a rebel, warrior with drip. But despite all the hatred and loss he still has a warm and forgiving heart. He also leads Yuuya to be more patient and forgiving.
I'm a bit disappointed there wasn't much talk about the final arc of Arc-V. The couple of duels we got at the very end are some of the best we've ever had even if the ending itself feels very played out
Wanna know what the worst part about bringing Crow in was? HE ACTUALLY HAD A GOOD SETUP AT FIRST. As much as Kamen and a lot of people dislike Crow for being a spotlight hog and not being too personality-filled in 5Ds, he had a pretty decent setup in the Synchro arc at first-win the Friendship Cup, get to Jack, and erase the caste divide. At first, he's not hogging the spotlight, and is actually pretty well used.... but then we actually get into the Friendship Cup, and the spotlight stealing begins. Never mind Shinji being such an ass to the point of trying to blame _the very people he was working with for the divide, FUCK YOU SHINJI! (Shit, you've got me doing it now...),_ but alobg with both the Tops _and_ Commons being the same flavor of asshole, only on different sides, but Crow manages to win against both fan favorites Gongenzaka and Shun, and just keeps on going until he loses to Awakened Yuya. Okay, not too bad. So then he helps out a bit with the Obelisk Force. Alright... but then he gets sent to the Fusion Dimension and gets more screentime until he's carded by Battle Beast, a character who everyone agrees wasted way too much time that could've been used better, but then during the whole Zarc rampage, it's shown that all the carded characters are coming back due to the dimensional merge... _Guess who comes back to double duel with Shingo?_ Yes, he loses with the guy, but _everyone_ lost to Zarc until Ray ex Machina happened. Simply put, as much as you hate Crow, I genuinely believed that if you had to use Crow in the arc, you'd utilize him in a way that he doesn't keep the reputation of being the harbinger of seasonal rot, and actually managed to be a character that isn't base-breaking in any way. But alas... and I like Crow, but I understand why you and others hate hus character, especially in execution, I even talked about it on your 5Ds video.
And suddenly D/D/D deviser king Deus machinex makes a whole lotta sense existing in that archetype (Being in arc v, and guess who was the last duelist to lose to zarc before ray x machina happened?)
Personally I felt they gave Crow the same treatment as every other fanservice character- just made him into an *sshole for Yuya to fix. In 5ds Crow was at least made to be likable 😂
Gonna be honest; I kinda thought you'd mention how infamous the manga storyline is because if its infamous time travel ending where they reveal manga Yuzu married manga Yusho (who she only met at the end of the story, at the same place the other counterparts died), who is around her age, and had the four Yu-Boys as their kids, and that the whole crux of the plot happened because Manga Leo got involved with the G.O.D which caused an event that killed original Yuzu, killed the other Yu-Boys when they went to try and stop it, and killed Yusho, but not before he sends Yuya back into the past to try and stop the G.O.D in the past, but then the spirits of his older brothers go and erase his memories because they don't want him going into despair from knowing his family died saving him, and thus while he goes on to become the Phantom Entertainment Duelist, and eventually runs into past Yuzu, who ended up falling in love with him, but is ultimately stopped by Phantom Yuya himself before he leaves with Reiji and two other manga exclusives to go fight the G.O.D of the past... The biggest problem aside from people hating this adaptational relationship overhaul and decrying the interactions as incest subtext and claims of Yusho being cucked (no joke, _THIS IS WHAT READERS ACTUALLY BELIEVE.),_ the writer barely foreshadowed this aside from one of the brothers saying that past Yuzu was familiar to them (so did they end up wiping so much of their baby brother's memories that they forgot their mom too?). If they just nixed that romantic love and just made it so she felt a desire to protect them another in a paternal way, and a bit more foreshadowing, there wouldn't be so much discourse. Not helping matters is that apparently there was a planned VRAINS manga, but that supposedly got cancelled, which will make people believe that Arc-V's manga was a franchise killer because of the backlash the ending got.
@@saiyanscaris6530 I would _love_ to see what kind of new characters they'd make for VRAINS and Sevens manga-wise. One of the things that drew me into the manga series post-Yu-Gi-Oh! OG is that the manga from GX onwards always told their own stories with their own interpretations of the characters. I loved seeing how the characters would be tackled, what manga-exclusive characters would be introduced, what challenges they would go through, and how it would all end. Unfortunately, if Vrains really had a planned manga that was cancelled, people would very obviously point to Arc-V's as the scapegoat that killed the manga adaptations because of the backlash, and I _really_ don't want that to be the case.
I thought the crazy complicated rules of VRAINS era & how long manga take to write were why the manga was shot down. VRAINS anime finished before Arc-V Manga finished & I remember everyone hated the gameplay of Link Monsters.
I genuienly believe Sawatari's growth would have been complete if he actually managed to beat Z-arc and not force him to reveal his 17th plot armor effect
Whats sucks is Yuya is one of my top 3 favorites protagonist in the series. He had one of my favorite deck archetypes with the Odd-eyes and Pendulum Magicians and was the 1st protagonist to use all forms of extra deck summoning. Its just a shame they started speed running to the ending and fell flat on their face in the process.
That's why I love Sevens and Go Rush so much, they have female characters actually matter in the story, do important events, and win a good amount of duels.
Wait really? I watched only a few episodes of 7s when it came out and then I fell off, but I've been thinking about giving it a proper watch. Now I want to see ygo properly write female characters
Objectively, this show is flawed to hell and back. Subjectively… I love this thing to death. It was my second ygo show after the original, and the pendulum mechanic introduced me to some of of my favorite decks - pendulum magicians, odd eyes, predaplants, and speedroids. Really wish this show for more time to cook
Having Yuri meow on all fours had me both fan-girling and laughing my ass off XD Despite Arc-V going down in flames, it's still one of my favorites. If it could've delivered and everyone wasn't pressed for the movie among other things, it probably would've been that much greater! Oh well tho, "stuff happens." Loved the video all the same! Cuz while true, Arc-V holds a special place in my heart ❤️ Also loved all the 3d models you did of the characters and the edits were funny af lol
I completely agree with you on Leo. I HATE him so much! And the worst part is that he never pays for his crimes! The only part is, it would have been better if he just didn’t let Yuri partake in the war rather than card him. He tried to do that with Serena, so he could have done that with Yuri. But other then that, I agree with everything you said about Leo.
Sometimes i wish they could just... try again. But i know thats never gonna happen. Theres so much potential in this series and its characters that seeing it go to waste like this really bums me out, man.
Yeah, I really liked the Arc-V designs and the characters personalities and the potential they could've brought to the Yu-Gi-Oh roster as a whole. But the plot really did all of the characters dirty. The old characters being brought back again was exciting at first, but then they took up most of the plot. Not even in a good way. Maybe an arc on just the old characters would've worked well, but that didn't happen. I love hearing other people's headcanons for the show and making my own for, well, basically the whole plot. Since the canon isn't very satisfying.
I was told that dark side of dimensions was meant to be a continuation of the manga not the anime which is why Seto acted the way he did to fight the Pharoh cause in the manga he never witnessed the final duel which left him incomplete
I feel like the whole idea of splitting the original dimension into four separate ones just feels like a big middle finger to fans of the previous series since the OG versions of the characters no longer exist
Except Arc-V doesn't have any relation to Zexal, 5D's or DM/GX in the first place. GX is the only sequel series to date and Bonds Beyond Time isn't canon.
@@hyperdimensionblissUm 5Ds is the sequel series to GX and it's known it's part of the same universe/timeline since 5Ds takes place in the far future after DM and GX especially since KaibaCorp, Domino City, Duel Academy, and the Egyptain Gods were mentioned in that show, Hell Trudge is the dude who bullied Yugi in highschool Bonds Beyond Time is also canon because Paradox was atleast mentioned in the final duel between Yusei and Z-ONE when the former remembered all the people he interacted with, granted Yugi and Jaden weren't shown, but hell Paradox even made a physical appearance in Aporia and Z-ONEs flashback and Z-ONE mentioned him at the time of his death.
Here’s the point in the franchise where they introduced alternate timelines and universes. The old ones existed as before, but they have no bearing on Arc-V, and the retrained legacy characters got to be an alternate universe version of them. It’s an odd better-case of both worlds.
I think I remember the whole battle beast mini-arc being so bad that a literal black scream got more views on the Japanese streaming site. Arc-V is frustrating because it starts so good, then just nosedives into dogshit. I mean it's nothing new even within Yugioh (5D's), nor is it the worst (rwby), but there's something about Arc-V's fall that bothers me a lot more than the others.
Maybe if Leo Akaba didn't know that his daughter separating was what kept Z-Arc in check then his character would have had merit. Or, he just focused this attention purely on Z-Arc's and his daughter's quarters rather than causing genocide, things would have been different. Also would have been better if Yuri was just ruthless by nature rather than taught to be. Hell, have Yuri be the reason that Z-Arc is revived because he wants to commit as much destruction. Also have Yuya separate from Z-Arc and face him himself - a battle between someone who wants to entertain regardless of the process and for self-satisfaction (Z-Arc), and someone wants to entertain but not braking any moral boundaries and out of selflessness.
One of my main problems with Arc - V (other than not being able to watch it because of Netflix not having every episode when i first watched it) was Yuto (Z-arcs Xyz counterpart) being basically killed off immediately by being fused with Yuya. Phantom Knights was one of my favourite archetype back when i used to play Yugioh and it honestly sucks that we didn't see it get used outside of like 2 duels iirc edit: after finally being able to watch most of ARC-V thanks to amazon prime video yeah i didn't miss much, season 1 was honestly really solid and i liked it and season 2 (synchro arc) had some great ideas and a few problems (like everyone being separate during the tournament) was still fun to watch for me HOWEVER season 3 so far is where this show falls off HARD its so much more different quality than seasons 1 and 2 and i think the only cool thing was yuya's first duel with aster and yuto taking over to summon dark requiem xyz dragon which was really cool also WHY did yuto only just now start talking to yuya like was he in a coma the entire time until they reached the xyz dimension but my one of my main criticisms of the entire show now is zuzu's bracelet. i have no idea what the other girls bracelets even do because i don't think its ever revealed all i know is it is not what zuzu's does but its basically just a get out of jail free card for the writers whenever they need yuri or yugo to dissapear because we can't have yugo duelling yuri yet and tbh its what hurts yugos character the most as both yugo and yuya could've been friends and having both would've helped alot against duel academy but instead we get one being removed for the other whenever zuzu is on screen. finally why did they take so long to explain what happened to different characters, it took until season 2 to explain what happened to yugo and zuzu and the fusion arc of season 3 to explain what happened to everyone not sent to the xyz dimension at the end of season 2 and in the same episode explained what happened to selena after she was sent to fusion in like the middle of season 2
This. Whenever I discuss with my friends about Arc-V, I always say that the show started to go south when they killed Yuto. They had no reason to do that other than shock value at that moment. If they had waited and made Yuya, Yuto and Yugo form a close bond and join forces to save Ruri and Rin, it would have been far more sad to see Yuto and Yugo die (if the writers really wanna kill them off). It also would have been fun watching the Yu-boys teaching each other how to use their dimension's special summon :/ . Alas, that is not what happens and not even fanfics can change that x.x
Come to think of it, the most annoying flaw of the show is how they portray Yugo. He is supposed to have significant role in the show (not just a recurring pun joke) even just become a fucking background NPC and no important role in his own Dimension - at least make him more competitive-like rival character to Yuya or a notable figure among Commons (the resistance group in the City). He is supposed to represent Zarc's passion and ambition in dueling.
As the random on twitter that said they were gonna act like they regret watching this because of how big of a yuya fan they are. yea doing that rn...while playing duel links. Great vid Kamen ❤
This series was by far one of the strongest YGO series to date. It had a super strong start and it did it really well all things considered. But man, I feel like the writers just did not really know what they wanted to do with the series moving forward, they probably realized that they either did not have the skill to pull off the incredible buildup they created, or they just never really planned the story out. They knew what they wanted to end on, but they did not know how they wanted the end to actually play out. I always thought that the final boss of Arc V was going to be one of two things. One was gonna be Yuya combined with the essences of the other Yuya counterparts fighting against the ultimate demon inside of him known as Zarc, fighting the dark forms or the super extra forms of the dimension dragons that each held one of the girls inside of them, such as Odd-Eyes and Dark Rebellion facing off against Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon, that one would hold Serena. It'd go on like that until Yuya freed them all and Yuya and girls defeated the ultimate evil. The second one was gonna be that Yuya was consumed by the evil inside of him and all four of the Yuzu girls would face off against the demon duelist in order to save the world and to ultimate save Yuya. Instead, we got the worst fucking thing of all, which was not really even a Boss Duel, just a big fucking marathon duel against a duelist who had the power to endlessly raise his lifepoints b/c "i'mma be against like 12 ppl, i need alotta life." Not even a proper 1v1 against the big bad of the entire Arc-V series, the big bad that has had probably the largest and longest build up of any final villain to date.
Arc-V is possibly my favourite yugioh series, with some of my favorite characters like Yuzu, Serena, ok tbh I like all 4 bracelet girls but Yuzu is actually my favorite in this entire franchise, moving on the designs of the characters are good, the decks fit everything works well and pretty much everything I like is contained to the first 49 odd episodes, until before the Synchro arc, dare I even say some of the best yugioh, and then it goes downhill and frankly I'll never be happy about that, Arc-V could have been the best yugioh series, but for whatever reason they went down this path :/
Imma comment before watching the video, because I want to unpack my thoughts before listening to other's: I loved MOST of Arc-V. The first two seasons were great. The whole build up to the lore of the dimension war was truly engaging, and part of the fun was the mystery. Then, things started going south on season three. Things were still kinda fun, and there were some hype moments. The very last good moment in the series was the revival of Zarc; I truly loved how he made Yuya say "You all wanted me to win... So I won... And I will now keep winning until the world is destroyed!". What followed was the very worst episodes of any Yugioh show: Just a repetitive series of chapters where everyone gets their asses kicked by Zarc; this went for on for months. After Zarc gets vanquished with the "En" cards, the last handfull of chapters were also a bore, and the conclusion of the series was really unsatisfying. Man, if it were not for that TERRIBLE ending, Arc V would have been one of the best Yugioh shows, and a truly great anime overall. But alas, that was not the case.
Smiling through the pain of reality is a good theme to be honest; you will see way more smiles and happiness from kids in warzones that lost their whole family than first world kids, because they appreciate what they still have Even if smiling doesn't solve anything, being positive and appreciating what you have can help you cope Basically a good theme that they weren't ready to execute properly because yeah Yuya doesn't really get it, he just like self disparages as far as I remember
They should collaborate with Gege Akutami even though his hatred to characters that fans loved, he make the characters well written than the other authors.
Yeah, Yuzu basically peaked after beating Gem-knight girl, which pissed my friend off as he's a gem knight player. While Yuzu's fall is bad, it's nothing compared to the faceplanted queen of disappointment Aoi Zaizen.
No they didn't. People cry about incest, but that's because of the poor foreshadowing to the twist. There's no kisses, no sex, she just fell in love with Phantom Yuya who outright _put her to sleep_ since he remembered she was his mom and left to fight the G.O.D. People bitch about incest and cuckoldry because the romance subtext (which shouldn't have been there) is now seen to them as incest subtext. I left a comment explaining the whole thing, but basically if the writer nixed any romance and replaced it with a feeling of paternal protection and better foreshadowing, the ending wouldn't be so gross for everyone in spite of the adaptational relationship overhaul. There are worse endings, but the manga's ending, as infamous as it is, is nowhere near "Alabama war crimes" level.
I do recommend you watch zexal. Once you go through the 1st half of season 1 it gets good, season 2 is really interesting too but season 3 is to me peak yugioh along with season 1 of 5ds.
Arc-V is so special to me. Watching it on release after falling out of Yu-Gi-Oh got me back into the game where I've been ever since. At the time the TCG was phenomenal and Pendulum remains my favourite summoning mechanic. Even though I can enjoy the final 50 episodes, there is a notable moment when they get to the XYZ dimension, they reset the character writing as if we didnt have a whole season of development.
I remember when this came out and as a teen I thought this was the greatest yugioh show ever especially when Sergei launched yuzu into a building . Looking back at it, it was very ambitious for what it wanted to accomplish and fell flat near the end (especially with the battle beast mini arc...) but it makes you wonder what else a yugioh show can be if it gets a chance to breathe
Dude the developers where hinting that the bracelets girls were so important, even that Flashback of Zarc and Ray. They could use the Girls to seal away each form of sealing and Reira as the Avatar of Ray divide the soul once again and each girl pull each of the Dragon Boyz, Yuya Pulled by Serena/Celina, Yugo pulled by Yuzu, Yuto pulled by Ruri and finally Yuri Pulled by Rin and each pair land in a different Dimension like Yuya & Serena rebuilding Exceed Dimension, Yugo & Yuzu on Fusion and so on.
Yes! Finally, this trainwreck's getting discussed. Between Yuya, Yuzu, how Yuri, Yuto and Yugo were handled in the manga, the Odd-Eyes archetype and Reiji, this series had the most I enjoyed from it. Which makes it hurt all the more that REIJI was the only part about this series that was handled decently in the end.
There is a DM character in arc v... kind of (keyword here is "kind of") Tetsu ushio/tetsu trudge shows up as a silhouette during season 1's tournament arc, and vivian wong from the kaiba corp grand prix arc also shows up as a background extra in the stadium supposedly. Tetsu trudge does have a more significant role in 5ds, but his first appearance was in both the origjn manga (first chapter villain) and in flashbacks in duelist kingdom. Reason why they didn't give any DM character prominent screentime is probably because at that point in the show you're not supposed to know that this is essentially a crossover "crisis on infinite earths" situation yet.
Arc V had the coolest story concept and could have been incredible, if they writers weren’t being lazy and took time and care with the whole thing. It’s so sad to see what happened to it.
Say that I'm blinded by nostalgia but this show was THE show that defined my childhood and the idea of bringing smiles to people really hit hard for 11 year old me and I dislike why people shit on it when it fundamentally has something going on for it It achieved the purpose it set out to do and affected me greatly
The whole bringing smiles thing eventually got tiring and repetitive and like Manga Kamen said, it felt like a damn cult because everytime Yuya would beat someone in a duel they would join them even if it made no sense. And like Manga Kamen also said, the only one that challenges that mentality is Jack and it's not even the reason that he should give shit Yuya for and it's the fact that maybe some people like to duel for different reasons. The show tries to shove down everyone's throat that you should duel only for one reason when it should be whatever reason you want (as long it's not evil i guess).
I think the problem with most people are the ones who watched all the series and compare it. I grew up with the first few series and half watched 5D but I still remember it being silly fun. I hated the art style of ArcV and I *REALLY* hated the actual Pendulum Cards IRL so that didn't help lol
Hot Take: Because of how they've messed up Arc V as a show, I've enjoyed VRAINS a lot more! I liked the characters more, I liked the story more and I even liked world setting more.
The one thing that Always baffles me is Leo's plan Straight up put the world at risk beause of his direct actuons. And he knew of Yuya and Yuto fusing together, did the though ever occur to him what would happen if his Daughters counterparts fought against one another because lo and behold, THAT DOESNT HAPPEN. Literally if they followed that logic, he sends Yuri to kidnap them, has the Doktor put fusion Parasite into their brains then forces a 4 way battle royale duel, winner becomes the dominant personality of Ray and boom, You got your daughter back, you have the power to combat Z-Arc who was gonna gwt revived anyways due to the Dragons calling out to one another that wouldve happened regardless of your attenpts to isolate them
i always thought it was weird that the yu-boys were meant to be parts of z-arc but then z-arc himself also still exists within them as a sort of separate entity. and then at the end when they've all recombined into supreme king z-arc...they're still separated? and yuya is the only one that gets revived while z-arc possesses layra. like i think it would have been better if the 4 dimensions actually fused and the new world self corrected with yuya looking like original z-arc but with yuya's personality, yuzu looking like ray and kurosaki being her older brother(due to the ruri connection), and layra being the new ray allowing leo to get his daughter back.
I love Arc-V, I really do. So you can imagine the insane rant I'll go down rn because I never get to talk about it to anyone. I had never really been into Yugioh until I got with my boyfriend and he introduced me to it, and when I asked about the anime, he showed me Arc-V first because it has some of his favorite ygo characters ever, Sawatari and Sora. That's all to say that, emotionally, Arc-V will always have a special place for me. I love most of the characters, the story has a lot of potential, it was really fun to watch and it's eye catching because of a lot of designs. And yet, once it ended, I was disappointed by the ending. And when the recency bias wore off, I noticed that there's just so much wasted potential in it. Despite the girls being the biggest plot device, since the kidnapping of Ruri and Rin is what drives Yuto and Yugo to the Standard dimension, the only girls we spend some time with are Yuzu and Serena. Don't get me wrong, I love both of them, Yuzu is a really decent character and she could stand on her own just fine for the most part. Same with Serena having the whole show to grow from her prior child soldier mindset. But Ruri and Rin? Who should be equally important since they're also part of the puzzle that keeps Zarc locked away? We're lucky if we catch any glimpse of them throughout the majority of the show, and when they're finally on camera it's for a really lame amount of episodes and they're brainwashed! They're absolutely wasted! And god, Leo is so FUCKING STUPID! His plan makes no fucking sense unless you work with the idea that he **thinks** he can beat Zarc by himself once he revives, which he should not! Because he saw what Zarc could do back in the original dimension! He's a lunatic, and it makes 0 sense that anyone thinks he isn't just a demented old man, let alone the amount of people that follow him in the Academia. And speaking of the Academia and his terrible plans, Yuri! Personally, Yuri is a nut case, but he's my nut case child and I love him. Yuri is, also, the embodiment of how stupid Leo is. He really grabbed the Zarc token and just drove him into a crazy megalomaniac bastard?? How does that not work straight against his plans of, you know, not having Zarc knocking his dimension down again??? Ugh it makes me so fucking mad because Yuri deserved none of that shit, he was just a wittle lonely orphan who got ostracized literally because he was too good at card games and the one person he could look up to as a sort of father figure is...that PoS. Alright, rant over, because I can sit here and go on indefinitely
You can go on indefinitely, and this was your first one. Imagine what it's like for someone like me, who was around from the beginning, and can see Arc-V as a culmination of not just utterly wasted potential, but all the franchise's worst traits jacked up a hundredfold, i.e. "don't like the lead girl getting brainwashed? too bad! here she is in QUADRUPLICATE! with a bug viscerally squirming in her head! and the creepy old guy touching them specifically to piss a _guy_ off!" ...yeah, I can go on a bit too. Hope the disappointment didn't deter you from trying out the better shows, like the first one, or the current one.
@@christopherb501 Oh God the bug and touching got me so pissed off! Honestly, there were quite a few things in the fusion dimension arc that pissed me off. Like Crow breaking Sawatari's duel disk, like, I can see where it came from from him as a character, but I think that was so bs because Shingo's deck and duel style had gotten so much better since he picked up abyss actors, it's like the showrunners just didn't want to let him win. Ahem, that ranting again, sorry about that. But no, actually, I loved the show a lot regardless, and it convinced me to watch the other seasons too. I saw that the first one had a lot of filler, so I read the manga on that one (the manga equivalent of season 0 is so wild, like, Bakura stabs his hand through a dnd diorama???), 5D's, although I have my own small issues with that one. Vrains, though I don't remember a lot of it, and I'm currently watching through Zexal which I'm loving. I heard that Sevens is really good, which makes me glad because I remember the different style of it made a lot of people not want to give it a chance
Man i absolutely hated that they decided not bring back the actual characters. And that they decided to use crow instead of literally anyone else. I remember being so excited for the syncho dimension then being so dissatisfied with it by the end. Then we got to the xyz'd dimension and it was all downhill from there. Yeah the cult of Yuya got so goddamn old and it was the xyz dimension where it got obnoxious for me. Also i wish they pulled the trigger on the ending and had the yuboys and bracelet girls fuse with all their split counterparts memories. Imagine them having to figure out who they are and what to do about those memories.
Yugioh Arc V was my first Yugioh series that I've watched. Also one of the first anime ever and one that I've watched weekly. So it is very dear to my heart even with all of it's flaws. But I don't think I could rewatch it again
Funnily enough the "too many characters problem" exists in the pokemon sun and moon anime. We have 7 main characters (Ash of course, Lilie, Mallow,Lana,Kiawe, sophacles and proffecor Kukui),this is also the series where every single member of Ash's team had development( 5 episodes at minimum to 30 focused on one of his pokemon except pikachu) and we also had, gladion, hau, guzma,Ilima,Faba and Burnett
The SM anime is also controversial for being way too focus on comedy and have mediocre battles most of the time. Don't if too many characters contributes to the problem, though. Also, the controversial Alola League and the questionable victory for Ash.
@@ashyflame i agree. Lusamine being far different from games one surprised me. But since i didn't see the whole series(not liking tone and art style) i must have missed something.
There were many factors that ranked the show imo but a bunch of those actually were confirmed to have existed. The show’s director is the same one from 5Ds (which explains why the pandering was so strong + actually rumored to have disliked previous series which reflected very little involvement in those dimensions) and that the writer had never really written anything original (this is also true). Both DSOD and Arc V had their own staff but there was a lot of meddling from the staffing in Arc V that it mishandled things for animators (this is also true). Animators weren’t alerted on how they should do the episode until the last minute. There’s also the issue of too many characters does not equal it being “good”. They could have done something else instead of legacy characters, but the director cherry-picked (it seems he was real fond of Kaito since he didn’t lose at like…the entire remaining part of the show).
Manga universe, and the funny thing is that Phantom never reciprocated and stopped her confession right there the moment he remembered everything... still should've cut the romance stuff out entirely and had more foreshadowing if he wanted to go that route since now everyone claims incest and cuckoldry instead of poor foreshadowing. I never minded the ending, but it could've been built up to better.
31:24 Leo sounds like the Illuminati from Marvel Comics and their many “solutions” to the Incredible Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Dark Phoenix, and the Marvel Zombies Virus.
Honestly Arc V has probably my favorite concept for a Yugioh series. Sadly bungled the ball in the second half about midway through the Synchro Arc, then Gallop decided rush through the next two arcs because they realized they went too hard and long with 5Ds fanservice.
What I think would be great in a Yugioh anime would be real world yugioh issues such as forgetting to read cards, FTK’s, ban lists, zone placement, and hand traps to name a few. Even include some of the memes from the community. Could even base the format of a show off master duel, a show that follows along with its world wide united ban list.
I was gonna make that story but way better. My oc main characters are some 3 parts of contestant behavior namely entertainer, normal, and gambler. One is for fun and one is serious, and of course, the normal one has both. Gambler would be the eldest child, normal would be tha middle child and entertainer would be the youngest child. This is my set from my story
Arc V had really cool set up and fumbled in the middle but man if the ending was better. It could have been one of the best the 12 plus player battle royal against zarc making him broken as hell

From what I've watched, sevens doesn't have mind control. And if you're making a video on that, you better not say anything bad about nail.
Mr. MangaKamen, who is your least favorite yugioh character? My least favorite is Crowler fron gx.
Your videos are awesome man! Keep it up!
I tried 2 times to watch arc v I instantly stopped in the first episode because in the first few minutes I saw the mc use a card that summoned dancing hippos I mean I've seen ridiculous cards before but the dancing hippos just killed the already limited hype I had for this anime I didn't try again for months probably longer and I was more interested in yuto than yuya but I dropped it right around the time they went to the synchro dimension ultimately I dropped it and went to vrains and didn't even start watching until it was already over and as far as sevens and rush goes nope no thank you
Is there an actual Arc-V abridged series or is the dub really that god awful?
If you think about it, Sawatari was the best representative for the show’s core theme because despite losing every time, everyone loves watching him duel. He’s a showman and doesn’t get upset over losing if the crowd enjoyed it. His very existence flies in the face of Academia and Z-Arc’s might makes right ideology.
Sawatari being annoyed after his loss to Yugo and then immediately perking up after seeing how happy he made the crowd made me genuinely fall in love with his character. Despite his ego he always stays true to himself in his duels and that's the kind of merit you don't see often enough.
But he doesn't have protag hair so we have to keep pretending he's the immature one.
His duel with Yuya was the thing that really hooked me in Arc-V even to this day. I remember being so gripped by what they'd do. Even though Sawatari was against the MC, that didn't stop me from believing he'd win. I was literally at the edge of my seat.
Sawatari was the real main character thats why he was trying to steal the spotlight every single time.
The rich boy becomes the man of the people
His arc was very lowkey but really good
It always irritates me that Leo could have avoided Zarc being revived if he just showed Yuri compassion and love when Yuri was still a child.
Bro you don’t know how much you summed up my current work of trying to fix that. You do not have no idea
He literally had two devils on his shoulders(leo, and Zarc). He was fucked straight out the gate
That alone should have act as a red flag for Leo.🤔
But yeah, Leo is defenetly the one to blame for how Yuri turned out to be! 😒
Tecnically, if leo killed all z-arc fragments zarc never will revive
Im still baffled that they managed to have four female characters be important to the plot and still manage to screw it up.
Half only actually appear and duel in the final arc and only once. Meanwhile the other half stop doing anything important halfway past the show.
Like Yuzu's last duel is 77 and despite being a constant presence in the show, does not duel anymore afterwards.
Konami when printing Solfachords, a music-themed Fairy deck based around Pendulums: "I feel like we're forgetting something... Eh, probably not important."
not to mention what was even the point of mind controlling her. as yuzu doesnt even get a chance to duel while under the parasites control
Five, counting Ray.
@@saiyanscaris6530 It's sh!t like this that makes me scoff at people that say that Aoi or Aki got it worse, bad as their treatment was.
Even though Yuzu had more duels then the other "main girls" she was just as much a plot device as they were.

Honestly this anime always bothered me.
At last the other summons are still used!
Seriously, once pendulums were balanced, people stopped using them.
Oh stop. Sylvia and bastion are far by the most slept on
Really hate how at the end of it, Leo wasn't punished for his actions. The whole mess is his fault as he essentially committed war crimes as well as killing hundreds of people yet the characters forgot about it and he got to walk free !
Not even the Marik excuse of having an evil alt-personality. "He wanted his daughter back", never mind his other children. That's all you get.
I'll never forgive the showrunner for disrespecting Alexis in a second series 😤 Arc-V had soooooo much potential and then they took a big dookie on it
Right!? She looked super bad ass. And. Then arc-v screwed her over. ☠️
Pretty sure her using Rituals would have been effective against Zarc.

Honestly I think the Rei counterparts decks should have worked together in the game. Just let the cards search each other out and their value would skyrocket.

@@nicholase82 Sure, let's make Lunalight Tiger search every Lyrilusc card in existence, what could possibly go wrong ?

Lyrilusc is the most busted one amongst the Rei girls, it is not tier 0 but the archetype is quite a formidable force if you utilised level 1 only.

@@blacklightjohnit is kinda funny that the brain parasites were a thing for like 3 episodes before being completely deleted. What was up with that?
Or better yet, have Leo who knew about Yuya and Yuto fusing together, apply that logic to his daughter. If Zarx gets revived via dueling, maybe his Daughter would. And if that was the case, HE had ALL FOUR of them. Like the moment Barret kidnapped Yuzu and brought Serena back he had all the pieces he needed. Fusion Parasite mind Control, 4 way Battle Royale and Boom
Let’s be real: the duel we all got cheated out of was Zane vs Kite. The undefeated rivals going full force
Zane would have been so epic
Worst part is that he is mentioned like half a second on the show, yet never appeared
Yeah and it would have been awesome to see him incorporate xyz into his deck
They are only undefeated because they never faced the protagonist after season 1. yuma could have won in s1 if he had used zexal
I'm a GX kid so I'm gonna be Team Kaiser. But Kaito will make the duel hard.
Doesn't help that the chef slashed the budget on necessary ingredients and piled on his own favorite seasonings, ignoring the advice of everyone else.
Its sad that they have to use Duel Links to fill in/fix the issues of Arc V and establish interactions people wanted.
Duel Links could operational for another 77 years, EVERY update wave offering a new patch to the story, and it STILL wouldn't be enough.
For real ?
Ah, Yugioh Arc-V..... I'm surprised this isn't 2 hours long
There is a video of a youtuber johan senpai about that in detail, but it in spanish so bring a traductor
There's a fanfic called "The Fifth Factor" that is just so amazing, I think it tells the story as it should have been told from the beginning. I enjoy reading that fanfic more than watching the actual anime.
I'm reading it now. Thank you for promoting it. I'm only on Chapter 9 and I'm hooked.
9:46 I still find it odd that in the original Japanese, the city was just called "City" even though it was clearly an alternate version of Neo Domino
The one thing I'll thank the dub for because atleast the sub had the balls to call Xyz Dimensions Heartland City as NEO Heartland City.
@@aozorahaou2643 That was only the field spell. The actual city is still called Heartland.
Strange since they did call Heartland by its name.
I will say, Serena is the closest to what I wish past female Yugioh girls were, until she gets kidnapped
My thoughts on Arc V can be summed up with saying "Season 1 good, Season 2 great and Season 3....ARGH! What the hell was that?!"
And later season be like " this is not making sense anyone."
My thoughts are, season 1 is great, season 2 is garbage and season 3 is meh.
@@orvaldurgumundson1809how is season 2 garbage
One thing i think we can all agree on *"THANK F#%K IT ISN'T THE MANGA ENDING!"*
The one thing I really like bout arc v is how it uses deck to establish character. Like sawatari getting abyss actors to show how hes embraced performance (and I really just love abyss actors gameplay wise) or sora having fluffal/frightfur, showing a cutesy outside while hiding a fucked up inside
Guess he and any few people in arc V had actual Character development than other people mainly the main character that had op card by the plot.
Sawatari was fun though, give that guy a spin off
Tbh, out of every Yugioh girl (besides Maybe aki) Serena had so much damn potential, and they threw it away
[Breath in deeply]
As somebody who whatched Arc V up until the middle of the Synchro arc as a teen, liked (and still likes) the desings of the characters and their monsters to the point that it's part of my drawing influences (or it was, at least, smong the media I watched as a teen when I decided to become an artist), and bassicly learned a lot about the game watching it (even with the action cards and the pendulum magic stuff, it's still closer to the actual game rules compared to the earlier seasons), I do still have some respect for Arc V as my biggest entry point in the Yu-Gi-Oh series.
In brief; Yu Gi Oh Arc-V is many things for me, and "A genuent classic" ain't one of them to my dismay;
-A good-enough entry point in the Yu Gi Oh game as a whole (even if Vrains came after with the Link monsters, and all the speed duel stuff of Sevens, the gameplay ain't that different with the pendulum cards going in the spell/trap zones, witch make sens as the pendulum cards are considered spell/rtrap cards when they're used in the scale.)
-An actual "Style over substance" show. Feel free to choose Yuya or Leo(Declan in french) as the poster boy of this... D/D and D/D/D are so dope.
-My first exposure to the "sexy lamp" trope discussions online (It's the variant of the damsel in distress where the damsel is closer to a prop than a character)
-One of the things who was around to inspire me to draw stuff.
The worst thing about Leo is after spending the entire series sat on a throne they don’t have the balls to have him duel in it.
Short of the demon prince himself, the textbook definition of "Orcus on His Throne".
I connected with Yuya so so so much that he's been my best boy since the very beginning. The anxiety and pressure that comes with wanting to be cheerful and make people happy at the same time, ive struggled with it a lot too so i loved his character❤❤❤
Im so hunking mad how the story ended up, like the manga saying the Yu-boys are brothers makes so much more sense than the stupid splitting plot 😢
Yuuto is my favourite character. He was living his life then Fire Nation attacked. He became a rebel, warrior with drip. But despite all the hatred and loss he still has a warm and forgiving heart. He also leads Yuuya to be more patient and forgiving.
Yuto is also my favourite. I could of just had a whole show with him, Shun, and Ruri.
They all deserved better.
And suddenly D/D/D deviser king Deus machinex makes a whole lotta sense existing in that archetype
(Being in arc v, and guess who was the last duelist to lose to zarc before ray x machina happened?)
The Battle Beast took up WAYYY too much screen time. 💀

In 5ds Crow was at least made to be likable 😂
Serena was a way better character than Yuzu and could easily have stolen Yuzu’s spot as the main female lead so that’s why she had to go
Gonna be honest; I kinda thought you'd mention how infamous the manga storyline is because if its infamous time travel ending where they reveal manga Yuzu married manga Yusho (who she only met at the end of the story, at the same place the other counterparts died), who is around her age, and had the four Yu-Boys as their kids, and that the whole crux of the plot happened because Manga Leo got involved with the G.O.D which caused an event that killed original Yuzu, killed the other Yu-Boys when they went to try and stop it, and killed Yusho, but not before he sends Yuya back into the past to try and stop the G.O.D in the past, but then the spirits of his older brothers go and erase his memories because they don't want him going into despair from knowing his family died saving him, and thus while he goes on to become the Phantom Entertainment Duelist, and eventually runs into past Yuzu, who ended up falling in love with him, but is ultimately stopped by Phantom Yuya himself before he leaves with Reiji and two other manga exclusives to go fight the G.O.D of the past...
Not helping matters is that apparently there was a planned VRAINS manga, but that supposedly got cancelled, which will make people believe that Arc-V's manga was a franchise killer because of the backlash the ending got.
especially since there hasnt been a yugioh manga since. i dont remember sevens getting one
I believed there is a Sevens manga. I think! I may be wrong, I just did a Google search. Although it’s more based on comedy and gags if anything

Sawatari was robbed at every turn. He was the real protagonist in my heart.
I'd rather have Sawatari beat Yuri rather than Zarc.
I think Yuzu and her counterparts should have teamed up against Zarc and win.
@@cosmic_cookie5669 Yes. I'd think you'll enjoy it for what it is with their main target audience being kids, it's still a good written show.
That does not save Sevens from being awful. Only Romin not sucking by the end of Sevens is not a good thing.
Having Yuri meow on all fours had me both fan-girling and laughing my ass off XD
Despite Arc-V going down in flames, it's still one of my favorites.
Given how Duel Links is shaping, fingers crossed we'll get a few more Band-Aids, at least.
That actually correct. There UA-cam guy name spellCommander tell about history and unknown story of the Yu-Gi-Oh series.
Yeah, it's a manga sequel, the movie came out for te 20th anniversary of the manga
@@hyperdimensionblissUm 5Ds is the sequel series to GX and it's known it's part of the same universe/timeline since 5Ds takes place in the far future after DM and GX especially since KaibaCorp, Domino City, Duel Academy, and the Egyptain Gods were mentioned in that show, Hell Trudge is the dude who bullied Yugi in highschool
Bonds Beyond Time is also canon because Paradox was atleast mentioned in the final duel between Yusei and Z-ONE when the former remembered all the people he interacted with, granted Yugi and Jaden weren't shown, but hell Paradox even made a physical appearance in Aporia and Z-ONEs flashback and Z-ONE mentioned him at the time of his death.
Bloody right?! Because Yuya is the protag they didn’t want to mess it up so they had to axe the others. ☠️

21:17 that oblivion guard joke hit me like a sack a brick giving how the manga ends.
Phantom Knights was one of my favourite archetype back when i used to play Yugioh and it honestly sucks that we didn't see it get used outside of like 2 duels iirc
edit: after finally being able to watch most of ARC-V thanks to amazon prime video yeah i didn't miss much, season 1 was honestly really solid and i liked it and season 2 (synchro arc) had some great ideas and a few problems (like everyone being separate during the tournament) was still fun to watch for me HOWEVER season 3 so far is where this show falls off HARD its so much more different quality than seasons 1 and 2 and i think the only cool thing was yuya's first duel with aster and yuto taking over to summon dark requiem xyz dragon which was really cool also WHY did yuto only just now start talking to yuya like was he in a coma the entire time until they reached the xyz dimension but my one of my main criticisms of the entire show now is zuzu's bracelet. i have no idea what the other girls bracelets even do because i don't think its ever revealed all i know is it is not what zuzu's does but its basically just a get out of jail free card for the writers whenever they need yuri or yugo to dissapear because we can't have yugo duelling yuri yet and tbh its what hurts yugos character the most as both yugo and yuya could've been friends and having both would've helped alot against duel academy but instead we get one being removed for the other whenever zuzu is on screen. finally why did they take so long to explain what happened to different characters, it took until season 2 to explain what happened to yugo and zuzu and the fusion arc of season 3 to explain what happened to everyone not sent to the xyz dimension at the end of season 2 and in the same episode explained what happened to selena after she was sent to fusion in like the middle of season 2
Oh *_BOY_* I guess it’s time we open *THAT* can of worms huh? This is gonna be good.
That first Scene in Arc-V Shown sounds like something straight from a Abridged Series.
The whole show could be an abridged series
Arc-V did introduce my favorite archetype
Lunalight
Been using it for years
Imma comment before watching the video, because I want to unpack my thoughts before listening to other's:
I loved MOST of Arc-V.
Smiling through the pain of reality is a good theme to be honest; you will see way more smiles and happiness from kids in warzones that lost their whole family than first world kids, because they appreciate what they still have
Even if smiling doesn't solve anything, being positive and appreciating what you have can help you cope
Basically a good theme that they weren't ready to execute properly because yeah Yuya doesn't really get it, he just like self disparages as far as I remember
Yuya is just a deadass Kingdom Hearts character with TnJ.
ARC-V could’ve really been probably the best yugioh series….IF THEY KNEW HOW TO WRITE
They should collaborate with Gege Akutami even though his hatred to characters that fans loved, he make the characters well written than the other authors.
For Legacy characters... Here me out... Show us Joey and Pegasus
Yeah, Yuzu basically peaked after beating Gem-knight girl, which pissed my friend off as he's a gem knight player. While Yuzu's fall is bad, it's nothing compared to the faceplanted queen of disappointment Aoi Zaizen.
didnt she only get one win?
Nah; Yuzu still got it worst.
@@christopherb501
nah yuzu at least had her moments in the first two arcs.
aoi on the other hand was just there for fanservice from the get go.
The face in the thumbnail says it all.
Oh the Manga ending 💀
@@Truckkun5bruh I’m so glad I didn’t touch the manga. It sounds like they committed war crimes with that shit.
@@maxanderson3733 um yeah some sweet home Alabama type war crimes
@@Truckkun5 PLZ TELL ME YOURE JOKING
The final duels were straight up 🔥 and i think it had also the highest stakes and with the most broken protag in the franchise
To me arc v is what got me back into yugioh so it has a special place in my heart. It's not good but special to me
Same. It became a new obsession to me. 😭 The grip that Arc V had Yugioh on me was insane.
There is a DM character in arc v... kind of (keyword here is "kind of")
Tetsu ushio/tetsu trudge shows up as a silhouette during season 1's tournament arc, and vivian wong from the kaiba corp grand prix arc also shows up as a background extra in the stadium supposedly.
Say that I'm blinded by nostalgia but this show was THE show that defined my childhood and the idea of bringing smiles to people really hit hard for 11 year old me and I dislike why people shit on it when it fundamentally has something going on for it
It achieved the purpose it set out to do and affected me greatly
It was good until that third season my god did I want to drop the show after that season.
Childhood? The show ain't even that old.
@@s3studios597 fun fact
People born after the 2000 exists
I'm 2005 so when it finshed airing on 2017 I was 12
I think the problem with most people are the ones who watched all the series and compare it.
"don't like the lead girl getting brainwashed? too bad! here she is in QUADRUPLICATE! with a bug viscerally squirming in her head! and the creepy old guy touching them specifically to piss a _guy_ off!"
...yeah, I can go on a bit too.

@@ryanaing5302 while I agree the problems you mentioned do exist. The bloated cast just made everything worse
@@ashyflame i agree. Lusamine being far different from games one surprised me. But since i didn't see the whole series(not liking tone and art style) i must have missed something.
Not to mention Ash’s worst team.
I literally stopped at like episode 76 and vicariously viewed it from a distance
I hate it when my love interest suddenly becomes my mom
Manga universe, and the funny thing is that Phantom never reciprocated and stopped her confession right there the moment he remembered everything... still should've cut the romance stuff out entirely and had more foreshadowing if he wanted to go that route since now everyone claims incest and cuckoldry instead of poor foreshadowing. I never minded the ending, but it could've been built up to better.
31:24 Leo sounds like the Illuminati from Marvel Comics and their many “solutions” to the Incredible Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Dark Phoenix, and the Marvel Zombies Virus.
Yuck...it's disgusting how ACCURATE you are that he WOULD fit right in with those nefarious, self-righteous schmucks...
This is why I'm following an epic rewrite that actually has what we really wanted from the Arc-V anime
Shout out to Romin from Sevens for being the best female duelist in this franchise (on screen).
Tsukikage was the absolute mvp
